You're listening here, you're pay us back just to be lady. Sure, good morning, PB, and is how are you? I have bumped everything and I actually don't think I have any audio. What in the world is going on? Let's see if we can fix this. Hmm. You don't know if you can hear me, because I certainly can't hear myself. I am not getting any audio. Oh no, a sec, I'm gonna check something. Okay, check something. Oh yep, So I have audio. I just can't hear myself and that is absolutely okay. I'm going to put my phone on mute and we'll go from there. I don't need to be able to hear myself beyond this, So hello everybody, good morning. It has been a hot minute because truthfully, be told, I forgot last Saturday was a Saturday until Sunday. And that tells you how everything runs together. So you get me fresh as a daisy. God bless you souls for having to see me that here. I am. I am ready with tea in hand, about to go tend to the animals, and wanted to give you an update on the homestead. I feel like that is picking up in the background. Let me there we go there, we go perfect. So here on the homestead we are dealing with many things, especially the deer, yep, the deer. So right now I have so far been able to harvest some wild lettuce. I'm gonna say the name wrong, but I believe it is lac Tesium candidace can Yeah, And so I don't have the prickly prickly wild lettuce here. I have another form of it, but it is native and it does work in the same meddicinal properties as prickly lettuce or even the Canadian wild lettuce that does grow in our region, and those are known as Porman's opium. It's not in opiate by any means, but it does have a white latex like sap that, when needed, helps with headaches, helps with sleep, and helps with body aches, helps with neuropathy. So those were something that is amazing. But you do have to be mindful of dosin and how much, because anything in excess can be very dangerous. But I had two beautiful stalks of wild lettuce just perfectly grown in a part in my yard that I had toiled. Christopher, do not touch. We are not cutting it down. They are going to be perfect for harvested in just a couple of days, and I step out to yesterday and the deer took off running because they were all four of them huddled around my wild lettuce and were eating it down to I have maybe this much left of the wild lettuce stock. So I was like, well, they seem to like it just as much as we do, so I'm like, okay, maybe more so, in which case nature is always going to be my biggest contender. And that's how it happens sometimes. Let's see, since I do have my Instagram up because YouTube just doesn't seem to really care anymore. Huh. Okay, I'm just sending out a good morning to anyone who is up at zero six fifty four Eastern Standard time, which means it is the butt crack of dawn, if not sooner for everybody else for the west. So not just with that, we now have ducks we were given. We were given ducks for free, and they are growing quite rapidly, rapidly, I will be honest, ducks are cross. I love Misscovy ducks because they're tree roost in ducks and don't require the same account amount of care in the sense of the water aspect as normal ducks. But that's okay because, don't get me wrong, miscovy ducks do like water, but it's not at the same intensity as your traditional ducks. And today we have eight or see how it goes. They are going to be for meat and eggs. So if there's too many drakes, I'm going to handle it the same way I handle it with the chickens. The males do get cold other than what we want, and the rest can get to live harmoniously for the most part, and see how how they fare. So I am in the process of up an area for them. And on top of that, we are incubating turkey x yep. Hopefully had four viable out of the first batch I was able to I was given six more, so fingers crossed that we will have ten turkeys to be able to add to our homestead or ever grown homestead and see where it goes. And I will not lie. The biggest issue we have ran into is the chipmunks and the groundhogs. And I look, I'm live to y'all still in my pjs, so if that tells you anything, the chipmunks have been the biggest issue that we've had to deal with. I have one who has managed to figure out how to. I do have one of those little cheapy plastic greenhouses, but you make work what you have, and they they there is one that keeps getting in there, and he or she it would eat all of the seeds out of my trays or all the tops off my plants. And to the point that I had a sprouten avocado seed I just wanted to try for fun. Yeah, it ate most of the seed completely down that now it is no longer sprouting. I have had them pull sweet potatoes that I was sprouten. I do have sweet potato shoots now ready to separate from the potato and start rooting. And I am having an issue with them eating the potatoes straight out of where I had them too. So that was fun. It's definitely never been a dull moments as of late. The only thing we've ran into. You see this beautiful picture, and I hope someday my garden looks like this. And so because of that, we have shenanagans all morning because it's as soon as we're finished here, we have plans. We're going forwarging. I found an area that has mullan and so it is a wonderful woman to storb to have in our house, especially for respiratory issues. So Mullen is amazing. And to find it where it grows beautifully, and to be able to harvest them and bring it home. And I know for a fact where I'm going to get it does not spray, so I don't have to worry about any pesticides or chemicals on It is an even bigger win. So I did a blend today. I don't do caffeine for my normal traditional followers. I can't anymore actually due to health concerns, and as James would say, I'm naturally caffeinated. Unfortunately, he says I have a lot of energy. I wish I had as much as he says I have. So our tea today is a blend because I wanted a little bit of usnia, which is old man's beard, which I have accumulated quite a bit. If those who aren't following my Instagram, check my Instagram out at Phoenix Dash Survival. No, I think it's Phoenix Underscore Survival over there. I'll have to double check. But I have yeah exsuming stash survivals right here. God have mercy. I collected some usnia. And for those of you who don't know what usnia is, I was actually taught this by a very dear friend about a year ago, and it has been the best forgin or natural medicine I've ever learned about. It is antimicrobial, it is anti fungal, works great for a lot of issues such as kidney or bladder infections, great for flu like symptoms, a great immuno booster, and that's what you want is to feel better, especially if you're under the weather or ill. So I only took a little bit of bosnia. And it's a type of lichen that we don't pull off the trees directly. I always wait till after a heavy rain or after a storm, and then it's usually growing on the hardwoods, so like you're oak and so forth. So I will find it in the woods or near where I have several hardwood trees, and if a branch falls and I see it on those branches, I will pick them up. I'll collect them. I'll let them dry out first. You can make tintures with them. But it's easy for me to collect them, let them dry, then put them up and then decide what I'm going to do with them, because if you find them on the ground, sometimes they're still a little dirt on them. I dry it, shake them off, or you can rent them off. But everything does get We have someone trying to be this morning. Were you wanting to join the podcast this week? No? No, okay, I love you too. Good bye bye, I said bye bye. That is our morning's here when everybody is home, there's silliness and goofiness because we all know here in a moment, it's all hands on deck. I will water the plants because we have actually been hitting much higher temperatures. As of late yesterday it was ninety five. The day before it was ninety three ninety four with high humidity, which again western North Carolina. It's still the South, so we get humid, we get hot, even in the mountains, and it is honestly beautiful. I love every bit of it. HM. So we are also on the fact that blackberries are in peak now or coming into its pink point. And now that I have dear to contend with wild lettuce, I now have to be just as vigilant and twice as active when it comes to BlackBerry. I do have several parts of my yard where I've let the BlackBerry go completely as raw, and I say let as if I had to say, I didn't nature, let it do what it's going to do. And with that, I pick BlackBerry every morning, usually around six fifty, I'm up, I'm going, and I'll pick until about seven seven point thirty. I'll get a basket or a bag full, depending on what's going. And from there I will I will actually for myself or any of those who know or don't know, ferries tend to have bugs in them, especially blackberries. The nats and the bugs love to planther put their larvae or their eggs in them, and they do hatch. It's just a part of it. And sometimes you'll get little nats, little maggots and bugs, and it's just a part of it. So what I do and I found works for me, is I fill up a bowl or sink of cold water. I do put depend on how much water in there, a decent amount of vinegar, and I let my berry soak. I'll rinse the off first, just to get the initial dirt off. I let them soak for a couple hours. Hey Joe, Ray, how are you darling? And then I will rinse them off multiple times. It hasn't affected the taste of the berries at all. But I found if there's any insects or any bugs, and if I have any berries that are really bad, I just remove those. But I'm almost to the right quantity, mixing it with the quantity from last year, that I am going to make BlackBerry jelly and BlackBerry syrup and put them up and then that way I have things from the season. On top of that, I was speaking to a family member that much I would love to have raspberry, not just because raspberry is one of my favorite but because of the benefits of the plant itself. And lo and behold, I found I thought was a BlackBerry bush at the end of my yard, further further closer to me than where my blackberries are and my dewberries, which most people don't know dewberries and blackberries look very similar, and then you typically grow next to each other. That's a whole other thing. I digress. Good morning, Joe, right, how are you doing dark How are you doing Darling. I'm getting my phone up here so I can see everybody's comments. So I found black raspberry lo and behold, which is native to this area, which is even more phenomenal. Come find out they had had black raspberry where I found it, that it somehow made its way there. So I'm checking it daily. It's still a very new plant. And yes, you hear everything about tintures for red raspberr but black raspberry can be used as well and has quite a bit of the same medicinal uses as red raspberry. So that made me thrilled because for a woman, for any woman, raspberry leaf tea or raspberry roots are amazing for minstrel health, for postpartum, for pre partum, I thought, the entire works of raspberry is just amazing for you. So that was exciting because in this household we have been while I have been going down the medicinal rabbit hole, and I'm perfectly fine with that, done it for years, but to be able to find it and locate it has been amazing. Now on top of that, Oh, so, Joe Wait states that he's preparing a huge lunch. I'm gonna completely mispronounce this, but man, Maren sorry, lamb stomach filled with rice, chreso and spices actually doesn't sound bad. That's like, my favorite taco is Taco del who doesn't like coltung tacos so or at minundo which is cal stomach and tripe which is stomach and the food is food is amazing, Jerry. If I ever get to fish fit visit Portugal, I'm probably gonna leave like six hundred pounds and be absolutely content and happy with it because food. I love food. I love to cook and I love to eat. But I digree, see you distract me with food. Now, I'm like, I wasn't hungry this morning, but now I'm thinking about if I want to eat something, So natural medicine is right. But on top of that, I'm re getting myself adjusted to the flora and fauna native to this region. And it's interesting as I'm revamp and relearning being able to recall plants. Oh you better, I definitely he's gonna send me a picture. I have to see this because it sounds delicious. I have noticed so we have Queensland's lace, it's a very common plant, right, But I have also noticed my share of poison hemlock, which looks very similar to Queensland's lace, and finding those different differences between them to be able to be able to differentiate is a very key thing. But seeing how common it is in the area. It's quite alarming, but not surprising all the while, Elderberry, the different plants that are growing up, the Jerusalem artichokes that are popping up everywhere in my yard. So I am enjoying being able to identify. And I will take a day where I have gloves because I am not handling any poison himlock without gloves. I will be more than happy to show you the differences between Queens Anne's lace and hemlock and water hemlock, which is also a type of poison himlock, which is just as lethal as hemlock itself. So we've ran into that. The garden was delayed on my raised bed. We got it built, I started filling it and then came into the financial aspect of needing more dirt, so there was a pause on that. So a lot of my plants, practically all my plants are in containers. But you know what, that's okay, we make do we figure it out. We'd go from there because it's a part of preppin is we're gonna get tossed curveballs and we have to roll with the punches, and so that's what we're doing. I'm making it work. He actually got a still because I was losing it. I'm not gonna lie. I was losing it. Neddin has been my best friend with these damn chipmunks, and I was losing it because every time I'd get a tomato plant about yay big, the chipmunk would come and eat the tops off of it. Or the groundhog, yes we have a groundhog issue, who had come up on the porch and eat my lilies out of the pots, on top of my halopeno plants, on top of everything else too. So it has been a curveball figuring out what is the best way to keep my plants and keep the animals out. The Netdin has been the only thing so for my poppin and I have put squash directly into the ground because they do are big and flourishing in an area near my house and had net and over it. I just remembered I took the net and off so the pollinators could help pollinate all the blooms. Yes, I can hand pollinate. I was just trying to be a little lazy so I didn't have to. And then I just remember, just now, I never covered the net and put the net and back over so we'll find out if I have squashed in a minute, but if not, no worries. Oh, I digressed on what I was talking about earlier when I said oosnia, because I start talking about plants and herbs and I run away with the wind, as Pappy would say, butterflies. I touched my cup after I was stirring sour dough starter and got some of my cup, so I did a blend. I have usnia, and then I have an immunity booster with lemon, turmeric and ginger, and I decided I want a little freshness with it, so there's also peppermint. So all of these things that are great for your system, that will boost your immunity, that will help alleviate certain things finding out to other people as well. Twenty five milligrams of ginger, which I usually do a good ginger tea with ivory profen helps reduce headaches. I've actually done a little bit of ginger with some of my wild lettuce and have completely cut out a migraine, which, for those of you who don't know, I do suffer from some really bad migraines that have multiple diagnosis for my migraines, so it does make it difficult when the medications that they give you are injections, and virtually the injections are so expensive, I can't do them anymore right now, And so I found an alternative that has made my quality of life a lot easier. Especially with complex migraines and occipital neuraujia. Those things can be quite painful and some things can trigger it. And I found a happy, happy treatment, and so I can't complain stay hydrated. Nature does provide. And it's funny as how how much, yes, nature is going to push back because nature has the upper hand. But nature does provide if you look and just take the time to learn. It is just one of those things where sorry, it's already getting toasty, so hairs up. I'm going to be putting on pants full jeans today, well then cargo pants just so because I'll be in the brush. I don't know if the area has chiggers really bad or not, so we're going to go from there. Let's see. I was trying to see if I had what the weather is going to be today and see what it is currently, because even though we have air conditioners, it says it's sixty eight right now. Might just be the hot tea we're supposed to be up in the nineties. Again, we did have a surprise pop up shower, which I was not angry about. Love it when it rains, especially currently because of the high heat. My poor tumeric is struggling and I am wadern as frequently as I can without trying to scorch my plants. So yesterday's pop up thunderstorm was a beautiful blessing in it zone, just for my plants to have a moment to be able to have some additional nourishment. So unfortunately, a lot of people's plants are already produced and somehow, which I know is because they started greenhouses and I'm typically straight from seeds starter. I did put some in planters. I ended up with sixty four tomato plants because he was able to get a whole flat for very cheap the other day and said, I brought you plants, So what woman doesn't like plants? So I have mayoasaber taken well, my broccoli is actually doing very well. I'm finding what places I can put certain plants, especially if they prefer a cooler or less track, sunlight or lesser hours. So I found that there are certain plants going into the future. It's just going to be something where I have to keep them in containers, and I'm okay with that. On top of that, the ants have been our biggest foe. We have the carpenter ants, of course, which love to be everywhere. Let me now, we have your normal black ants, we have your normal fire ants. Oh that's not what I want to here we go, But we also have the Asian needle ants, and for whatever reason, we have them quite predominantly with where we're at to the point that I am going through methods of killing them and we don't typically poison here. We have neighbors who have bees. We want to respect that We're not spraying, but diet to make sure Earth has been a godsend because we did have an incident with the centipedes getting into the house, especially after the heavy storms. No matter how hard you think everything's sealed off and insect if they're determined enough, are gonna find a way in. That's just how it works. The carpenter ants, I've been able to keep out with just in home treatments, the little ant houses. So if they take the jail, they take it home and it kills them. I have been putting down grits. Grits works, believe it or not. You can also do borax. Grits is something I keep in the house. It's just a staple. And I found I had some grits that didn't get quite stored as properly as I had hoped. One of the vacuum seals had broken, so I don't know how long it's been exposed to air. And I knew I had vacuum sealed it quite a while back, so I put out the grits, and in those areas is where I put the grits where I know the ants had been nesting. They eat it, it expands in their stomach, it explodes, and it kills them. So I have reduced quite a bit, but I am still a huge fan of dietamacious earth, especially around the house, especially around my potted plants. Better say than sorry, because I did run into an issue where the large pot my turmeric was originally in last year, I was actually full of ants and termites. So I had to treat the soil and pull everything that was in and out before the ants got to it. So it's been a learning curve and hopefully what I'm learning here we'll help you. I've also decided for next season, because it's a little late now on certain things. I am going to throw out quite a bit of amorth seeds. I love amorth. It's a ancient grain. Hi It's good protein, it's great feed for your livestock. It's great post for your garden. But the reason I am putting out the amoranth is so that I can well one. It usually pulls pest away from your garden because it is an easy protein for them. So I'm going to put an over abundance and it grows fast and it grows tall, and then that way I can also give some to the animals and hopefully use it as a deterrent crop. Even though I'd love to keep the crop as a deterrent crop so I can have my my produce. It is one of those things sometimes sacrifices have to be made. I did not get to put my buckweedt out this year. I am going to put out my buckwheed next year. I did have some plants reseed themselves from last year, but I am going to put out more buckwheat, more amorth. I'm going to have a little area specifically for hopefully as a deterrent crop in the sense that everything will go to that one versus my garden itself. We'll see. It is a plan, it is a thought. I have a yard that my son plays in and we haven't come with I haven't had any issues with ticks or chiggers as of late, or as of actually at all. I don't think I've had a single chigger or tick on me since moving out here. So that being said, though, I do plan on planting some plants in the yard, his yard, his playyard that will help deter insects. So I'm going to put oregano, I'm going to try to put some lavender plants in there. I'm going to put plants that are naturally deterrence for most insects that are also going to be great and beneficial just for the land itself. And if we can use it, we can use it. But either way, my main concern is the safety of my children and my child and the area, and if it reduces the X there's a big win on top of it. So it is things that I'm looking at. It is work that we are having to do. I am having to do and I am completely fine with that. Some of these projects, though, are weekend projects. I have my list a week in task and daily task, and as things go about, as work picks up, not only on the homestead but for ourselves as well, things will have to be moved around and managed, and that's okay. So I've met a lot of individuals out here who are getting into the homestead and lifestyle, which is exhilarating for me. Meeting other people who want to learn, who have decided that they are ready to learn, is a big deal for me because now I'm looking at being able to help these other people, these other couples, these other individuals to learn how to process a chicken without the plucking method I do with the skin and method because I don't have a plucker and hairm costly. But the fact that I can clean a chicken and clean my area in twenty minutes, I've got a pretty good time on it. Uh, let's see. So it's there are a lot of new opportunities coming up. I don't want to say before they're all done or before they've you know, came to fruition, but Hi, there are quite a few things I can't wait to share with y'all, and it's going to be interesting to see where this homestead goes. I keep looking at my background and I'm so jealous of these pumpkins right here. Next year, that is my goal next year, once I get everything else situated, just then start pumpkins. By the way, garden girl, huge shout out to you. I don't know where you are. My chat has stayed quick. Oh oh, hi, Gooner. I just saw that there was a chat on there and I didn't I missed it. Sorry, what a name, I realized. I didn't realize. Sorry, I just realized that I got sidetracked. Dang it, Gooner. I my loofa has been taken off beautifully. So out of the seed you sent me, only four took. But that is also because the chipmunks decided to eat the other ones as they were sprouted, so I had to fight them off for those my passion flower. Out of multiple seeds planted, I have one plane that survived. The chipmunk ate the complete top off of it, but she's still thriving. So fingers crossed. Passion flower is beautiful as well as great medicine in its own So you got to consider the fact, Regno is great for medicine, it's great as a buck de turney, it's great for food. All of these things are meant to take care of us. All of these things are right there, and you just have to put in the practice and the effort to learn them. It's it is a blessing that I am now back in this lifestyle, feeling like I'm flourished. And even if I take a step forward and two steps back, at least I'm learning something from my mistakes, from my errors from nature itself. Because if it's if nature is determined to, they are going to. I probably won't be on here too long, probably won't be a full hour today, only because, like I said, as soon as I get done morning chores and we have to be out the door like that. So I wanted to jump on though and say I haven't forgotten, y'all. I just forget my days sometimes because they typically will run together, and so you may get some pre records where I was in the middle of the week and I jump up and I record, thinking it's Saturday, and it's not, because everything runs together, and yeah, it's just a homestead. It's NonStop, it's constantly moving it's constantly changing, and we're adjusting to whatever changes are needed to be made. Sometimes it's us, sometimes it's the land. Sometimes it's everything else. But you have to be flexible, all right. I just want to get like a good look at this. Let's see there we go, look at that. Look how beautiful that is. This is a dream now, mind you. I'm not going to have all this stone works beautiful, but it would be nice to be like, no, next time. The picture on the backdrop, maybe not this year, but maybe next year. The picture on the backdrop is my guard, the Phoenix Survival Guard. Oh, here we go. I got another topic we can spin down. I went to the try On Questioning and Center. Actually that's why I forgot it. I forgot to do my podcast thought last weekend. And holy cow, Batman, that place is gi enormous. So for those of you who have been to Prepper Camp and Saluta, North Carolina, when we held it there, beautiful area, vast remote, you know, it was kind of a hassle to go down the mountain to go into town or to go to the next gas station. Y'all. This is right off the road. It's got its own exit. So it's convenient. We don't have to deal with a bunch of bustling traffic when you get off that exit your headed there. This place is genormous and beautiful, absolutely beautiful. They have restaurants everywhere, so that will make it a little more convenient for those who forget to pack food, or don't bring food, or decide that they were going to pick up once they got there. There are cabins, there are hotels, there are camp sites, there are r V sites. The place is amazing. And then I believe all of those restaurants as well serve breakfast too, so if you decide you don't want to cook, they're gonna have that option. There's an arcade there. It is definitely gonna be I would say Prepper Camp was always friendly, family friendly in the sense that it was out in the woods and kids could play, But same thing here. There's a show that gets you to and from there. The place is amazing. I mean, Prepper Camp twenty twenty six is going to be like no other in my absolute opinion. It is a stunning and beautiful facility, and Prepper Camp is is now I believe, going to be even more elevated. I thought Peper Camp last year was the best, and I think every year it just seems to get better and better and better. And this year, Peper Camp twenty twenty six is going to be absolutely out of this world. So if you don't take my word for it, look up try on Equestrian Center in North Carolina. We made the drive down there, we took a look. Absolutely stunning, absolutely beautiful. All of their little restaurants are family friendly. It is so amazing, especially for a mom who wants to just sit down and enjoy a meal and still be around the music and the karaoke. We had a blast and my son had a blast being there, and other kids standing there playing and dancing or playing in the arcade. It was amazing. So that was phenomenal. Look it up. Look it up, go to their website. Look up there. They have aerial maps and if you haven't seen that, look at James. James did a video and posted it about the Equestrian Center and holy cow, it is phenomenal. Prepper Camp's going to be out of this world. So if you have not gotten your Prepper Camp ticket, you need to do so now, and so preppercamp dot com and go get your Prepper Camp ticket, so you don't miss out on this amazing year. Let me just put it in the banner. Let's see, I'm here the boys kickling, all right, So there we go. Preppercamp dot com so where you need to go? Okay, go check it out. Also, look at the Equestrian Center. Let me see if I can find their website. I will even put that up on here too. That is amazing and I think, honestly it is going to be the best thing for prepper Camp. No, it's pulling off. Oh that's not problems. So I'm having issues pulling up and it's pulling everything up. I don't feel like fighting it. Not the sleep. It is going to be amazing. I think it's going to set a whole new precedent for prepper camp. Are We're always grown, we're always expanding, and I, in my personal opinion, I believed we had gotten way too big for Saluta, North Carolina, and not honestly, we had more and more showed up and more and more we're attending. And that also makes it great for the locals here who can't take the drive out to the remote mountains. At least it's located in a pretty well placed, pretty located place, especially on the state line just before South Carolina, that people who choose to can drive up, go home and come back for those who are local, and so that's pleasant. We're at a good driving distance. It's not a six hour drive for us since our move, but it's still it's still wonderful. I am excited. I can't wait to take the classes. I've been watching the lineup. So if you haven't seen the lineup on prepper Camp, on the proper Camp page on Instagram and Facebook, they're always showing who the speakers are going to be, who some of the vendors are gonna be, who you know what all is going to be there. Take a look, follow the page, go to the website. We're listed on there. All of us speakers, all of us host, all of us vendors. We are there so you'll want to see it. And if you're a PBN member, come in and say hi. Almost all of the PBN crew is going to be there. I was really trying to get the Patriot Power Hour. I had hoped not unfortunately not this year. I tried, I really really tried because I would love the Patriot Power Hour boys to be here. I say boys. They are men, but they are absolute sweethearts. But you're gonna have Myself, You're gonna have James, You're gonna have Dave Jones. Ryan Buford is usually there and that's that's our absolute darling. I Sarah Hathaway. Of course I don't know if Doug is going to be there. I will have to ask. Inger's crossed though that he is. Because it's like having your family.
