NPM 05:The Ultimate Survival Cache the Dirtyman Safe

The story continues. 30 days live. National Preparedness Month 2026. An incredible lineup. This is our first Saturday of the month. So I'm very interested to see how that goes. We're going to talk about the Dirty Man Save today, which in my opinion is the best survival cash that money can buy, right? The big thing about cashing, I feel like a lot of people that are prepared, disminded, sure they know what it is. And the big problem that the Dirty Man Save solves is, you know, are you actually going to build the cash? Are you? I mean, you probably have a lot of ideas of what you'd like to put in one, but are you actually going to build one? Because if you're not going to build it, then the Dirty Man Safe's out there waiting for you, okay? So we're going to bring on Howard to talk to us today about the Dirty Man Safe. You are the creator of this incredible cash system, right, sir? Thanks for coming on today. Well, thanks for having me, and it's great to be here. Yes, I am the creator of it. It took a little bit and a long path to get here, so it's not as easy as it seems as, as you were saying. It's an intro. We got a short interview, but it is an interesting thing to be sitting around and thinking about. If you could give me like a, a pretty quick version of like, you know, where and when did this thing pop into your head? So we are into survival stuff, um, with some other products, but That's what led to the Dirty Man Safe. I was fiddling around outside and I thought, okay, well, once you have your water and food ready, what next? If you have water and food, you still need a way to barter. And how do you hide that if your house burns down or something happens and whatnot? And I thought, well, the best way to keep it is underground. And I came in after fiddling around after my first project. My wife said, why are your knees so dirty? And I said, that's the name of the product, Dirty Man Safe. So that's where it came from. We wanted to protect from fire. We wanted to protect from everything. And we had to do a pivot shortly thereafter because it turned out that crime was right there with disaster. Ah, yeah, looters. Yeah, we had to make some adjustments, some big adjustments that you'll see on that safe. And we can talk about them if we have time. Sure, sure. We did a pivot, and it took quite some time. We found that the way the industry was doing it, and preppers are at the point of the spearhead of doing all this stuff. They are always there first. Give them duct tape, a hammer, and a pair of pliers, and they're there. I'm so glad you said that. Yeah, and we found that preppers were not quite getting the exact system that they needed to accomplish this. So we had to go vertical. We had to go with a tube, an outside tube. We had to go with a cap. We had to go with a stainless steel cable. We had to do so many things to get to where it's at. It looks very, very simple. It looks like a child could do it. But when you look at the science of it, you'll say, I get it. I understand why it is what it is. I'm going to throw this side view. I think this is one of the best images you guys have explaining the Dirty Man Safe because it Let me grab the ground above it, because it really does sort of show what you're getting and why you're getting what you're getting, right? In terms of the burial depth, the protection, the outer shell, and you probably have much better lingo than me, so just shut me up if you want. The outer shell, the outer PVC cover... that protects the actual cash, but then also gives you this, what I like most about it, which is the quick and easy access to the thing, right? You're not digging 17 feet underground. Correct. Anybody can put anything in the ground. And I will not debate that with anyone. You can put it in the ground, whether it's going to survive with the harsh environment down there, that's to be seen. So We didn't invent this. Pirates have been doing this for years. Our grandparents have been doing this for years with coffee cans. We did not invent this. So I'm not standing up saying, look, look what we did. All we did was refine it for you. We actually went after our target audience was the women. And what I mean, really? Yes, yes. We went after this. And when we tested, we tested with the amount of of resistance that we had pulling this thing up. And we said, oh, understood. Yeah, yeah. So we wanted a, and I'm going to use this, and people will say, well, why are you using this phrase? We wanted a teenage girl to be able to pull this out of the ground. Yeah. Yes, that was a big deal. So we had to go with the depth. We had to go with the size. We had to go with the length. Everything revolved around a wife or a young daughter pulling this out of the ground because we knew that if it hits the fan, they're going to be the ones that are at home. The husband may be away working and whatnot, traveling. Who knows? Right. But they have to get to this and they have to pull it out of the ground quickly. Now, they don't have to pull it out of the ground because we're beyond eight inches down. So fires is we're pretty, pretty safe from fires. But that means I'm not talking about a volcano, whatnot, but but fires. Yeah, we're pretty good. But we again, getting back to it, we wanted to make sure that that the women can pull this out of the ground. Now, burying it may be a whole nother issue. cause you need a post hole digger and you need a little, uh, savvy, uh, you know, to get this thing done. But that being said, that was our claim to fame is I said, okay, if my wife needs to go out there and get it and, and, and, and, and book out, uh, that she can actually do it herself without, you know, being able to, to bench press 200 pounds and whatnot. Uh, yeah, that's a big deal. Yeah. That stuff has to be functional, right? It has to be functional for the whole family. Yeah. So which based on this size, what, Just so everybody has an idea, can you see what size this one is here? Because you have several sizes. I think that is the large. I believe that's the large. That's what I thought. Okay. I wasn't 100% sure. Yeah, that's the large. So we have three sizes. We have the medium, which is half the size of the large, and then we have the extra large, which is the 4-inch diameter as opposed to the 3-inch. Yeah, that's about right. Yeah, that's the granddaddy of it all. We actually had a gentleman. I don't want to get too specific, but we had a gentleman. I talked to him on the phone for a lengthy time, and he put a 100-ounce bar of gold in his extra-large safe. And he had multiple safes, too, by the way. Most of these people buy them. Yeah, most of these people. I had no idea. So when these people are buying the safes, we have some people. And the medium is fine. Don't get me wrong. And we even have the crypto edition. But they find that they have more stuff. They start really thinking about it. And they put pictures in there and they put computer stuff in there. They put it in a Faraday bag. They get so creative. I had a woman, well-known, she put chocolate in hers. And she said, it's a comfort food. So when it hits the fan and she has to get to it and things happen, she can have her chocolate to calm herself down. when this all goes down. I thought, well, you know, it is, you know, technically it's made out of ABS, but it's not as harmful as PVC. Oh, okay. I didn't know. I thought it was PVC. No, no, no. Well, the white cap is PVC. The odd thing about PVC that people don't understand when they start burying their stuff in PVC, silver itself has a bad reaction to PVC and it will tarnish. So if you have pristine silver or precious metal, you have an Now, PVC, you can pressurize it, but there's no reason for us to pressurize this. We are not putting anything in there. And we highly advise against anybody putting liquids in if they're in freezing areas because it'll expand. Oh, of course. Yeah. That being said, we had to go with ABS. ABS is what is used under the ground right now for probably 90% of the country's plumbing. So it's in the ground already. It's proven. And it's not harmful to any of the stuff that you put in. So that's the whole reason with ABS. Everybody in the industry, well, not everybody, but they're going with, when you hear stories of them burying and having caches, they're using PVC. And I'll tell you right now, people, you can't use PVC if you want to put anything precious in there. It gives off gases, constantly gives off gases, and it will harm stuff. I don't know about electronics, but it will definitely have an issue with your precious metals and your keepsakes. So that was the reason why we had to go with ABS. And the sizes that we have, are, are difficult to work with. Uh, so, you know, that, that is what it is. So, and then the getting back to it again, I don't, you please, please stop me. Cause I'll talk all. Day, but no, let's hear it, man. That's what you're here for. The cable itself. When we, when we did a pivot from, from mother nature to human nature, um, the cables that we were using were different. And, um, we looked at a sailboat and we said, the answer is there because of the stainless steel on sailboats. And yeah, we, we, we, we, We opened the magic door because we found that stainless steel is one of the hardest materials. metals for metal detectors to detect. I'm not saying it's 100%, but it's one of the hardest. Ah, okay. So not only was it strong and it can stay in the ground for a tremendous amount of time, is that when somebody comes by with a metal detector, it's one of the hardest metals to detect. So, again, like I said, we had to do a pivot from mother nature to human nature. And that was one of the key things that we did with the safe and changing it. And again, you know, our costs went up. We didn't pass it on to the buyer. Our costs went up and our time to make it. If you look at how we have to crimp the swages down, we have to cut the stainless steel. Many, many things went into just that one part. Yeah, it's a very, yeah, I mean, I can't imagine. having to fill this thing with something heavy enough to break that wire, it's not happening. You guys also include some metal balls that can be used in a variety of ways. You probably should talk about that because that's one of the things that our community really kind of was like, oh, this is a really cool feature here. Yeah, so I did a research when I was in my path of finding out how metal detectors work and whatnot. I talked to a very renowned metal detector gentleman. He pointed me in the direction of, in one of the New England states, I don't remember the state itself, but there's a Civil War area there, and they were having problems with pirates going in, modern-day pirates, looking for all the goodies. Oh, yeah. But what the National Park did is they, I don't even know if they coined this, but they salted the ground with metal, which means that they took junk metal and they buried it through the whole area. To shavings. Correct. And what this did was slow down the thieves. So it slowed them down so much that it took them hours just to figure out that it was in a bad spot. And then they were able to catch them at that point because they couldn't catch these thieves. They were going straight for the stuff, digging down, getting it, and out they went. But now they had to deal with a massive amount of metal in the ground. And that's basically what our ball bearings are doing. And we actually advise, if you have your own junk metal, spread it out through. The, I love that story, man. That's an amazing story. Yeah. And, and again, we stumbled upon that story and it, and it, and it works. We actually have a gentleman that, that reviewed our safe. Um, and, uh, you can find it on, on, on YouTube. I don't want to promote anybody, but, um, he actually brought his mind labs, um, uh, metal detector and he couldn't find it. So he put our bar of silver down there and he put a silver coin on the, on, on ground level. and to show that his mind labs metal detector was working and he could not find the safe. So, you know, again, it was the pivot going from mother nature to human nature. So we worked it out for mother nature and it works great for mother nature. We actually, I'm on our Instagram posts. We lit a fire on top of it for four hours and we dug it up and there's nothing, absolutely nothing to the safe. So, you know, again, It's the human nature that we're doing the pivot for right now. And I think 90% of your audience is probably concerned with human nature as opposed to. Oh, of course. Yeah. Yeah, I think they understand the value and the level of protection they get from that big cap and the big tube. I mean, let's be honest. The vast majority of preppers that I know, we're burying this. You know, not even the outer shell to protect it from everything outside of that and to give it another... another layer of protection from human nature, as you call it. I like that. The sleeve that you just mentioned, which people don't quite understand, the sleeve itself, people think that it's protecting the safe, and it's not protecting the safe. We've done some brutal things to the safe, and it survives most everything. But the outer shell, which we call the sleeve, is not there to protect the safe. It's there to make it easier to pull it up. We found that if you just put stuff in the ground, Mother Nature grabbed a hold of it and doesn't want to give it up. Oh, of course, yeah. So the sleeve is like a silo, a missile silo. So it makes it easier for this device, our safe, to come up. And the cap, all the cap is doing is protecting it from the dirt going into the silo. That way it doesn't fill up. Correct. So you always have the safe that's free of Mother Nature. So you're actually pulling the safe up six, seven inches of soil. And if you dig around it, that's nothing. So We made it. We had to go. I had one gentleman that went down. Oh, my gosh. He went down really deep. And I said, I can't guarantee this because he wanted a longer cable. I said, we'll give you a longer cable at no cost. But I cannot guarantee the safe coming up because now you're pulling up so much weight. Oh, right. Yeah. No problem. I'm going to dig down. He just didn't want super duper metal detectors to find his stuff. And I said, I don't know. By the way, speaking of that. We ship this in a plain brown box to whatever address we ship via USPS or UPS. I can attest. I have no idea. And your audience may know of the Liberty Safe debacle that happened about a year and a half ago. I don't know if you recall that. No. Okay. So Liberty– do we have time? Sure. Definitely. Liberty Safe. And I don't know anything about Liberty Safe. I've never spoken to them. But a story broke about a year and a half ago that a three-letter agency was out. and they had a warrant to arrest this gentleman. I believe he was a former military, and he was in D.C. at a time of January 6th. I won't get into specifics, but he was there, and they were arresting him. Well, they had an arrest warrant, I believe, but they did not have a warrant or the documentation to go into his house and look into his safe. They had it for him, but not for that. Well, this. This agency called. Trying to find the story real quick. Yeah, yeah. If you go into Joe Rogan or the Hodge twins, you will find it. Hodge twins, Liberty Safe, or Joe Rogan, Liberty Safe, or Brandon Herrera out of Texas, Liberty Safe. Anyways, so they went into his house and they picked up the phone and they called Liberty Safe. And Liberty Safe gave him the backdoor code for the safe. No. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. And they could just get right in. So first off, people didn't know that there were backdoor codes for every single safe, even the Tumblr safes. There's backdoor codes that these companies have, which it's not been announced. So when the story broke, people were burning their safes and breaking their safes and all sorts of other things. Yeah. So again, it's a wild story. We were just starting off and Our website was horrible. We just didn't have things in order, and we were bombarded with traffic on our website, and we did not capture it because that was our fault. But LibertySafe really catapulted us into the next step. So it's an odd story, that LibertySafe thing, but you'll have multiple people talking about it. So LibertySafe's failure flung the Dirty Man Safe into its– rightful place in the prepping world and well in the world at large right. People at that point were asking well if we can't trust our safe company um what who can we trust and it came back to straight into the mirror look in the mirror and say it's it's all on you now so what are you going to do you can go out and and drop stuff in your ground that's fine i love it i love it go ahead and do it and we get when when we have things that that publish on youtube and people review it we get blasted because people say, Oh, I can make this for $ 5. I can do it for $ 6. And that's fine. I don't have a problem with that. That's, you know, that's, that's good. I, you know, there's some, some good people out there and they just want to stress how, how, how valuable they are. And that's perfect. That's, that's, that's who I am. But when it comes down to it, what is your valuable? What is your, what is your hourly rate in doing this? So yeah, you can copy it. You can, you know, copy it all you want. And, and it's done throughout, throughout history. People copy things. But what is it really going to take you to copy this thing? When you really look at it and you'll say, okay, now I've got to do this. I need special machinery. I need this. I need to find the products and all the rest of that stuff. And I need to learn how to do this and I need to learn how to do that. And then it's not safe making them, first off. But that being said, we have it here for you and we made it easy. And again, and I don't want to sound like a sales pitch, but this was intended for the women. This was intended for... I speak to many, many housewives or women in general, and they say, I buy it and I put it on my husband's lap or I put it at dinner table. And now they have to do something about it because I purchased it. And so, you know, I had one gentleman who was quite interesting. He actually did a night out with his two kids and they went out and buried it in the middle of the night and did a camping thing. And the kids both know where it's at. And they're good to go. I had another gentleman buy three of them, one for himself and two for the other two kids. He didn't tell the kids, but he buried them. And when he dies, they're going to get a map of what he's giving them. So there's no. Oh, that's so cool. Nothing involved, nothing involved. So they're going to get a map and they're going to get their gold, silver, whatever it is, cash, whatever you want to put in there. You put chocolate in. there. What I always say to the people who, you know, say things like that to us in terms of like, oh, I could make one. And really, it's been kind of my biggest pitch on the product in total in terms of caching is you probably can make something, but will you make it? Because what I've learned about a lot of the prepping community is everybody knows a lot, but not everybody does a lot. You know what I mean? So will you do it is the question. Not can you do it, but will you actually do it? And that's where I think you guys really excel because now all of a sudden you have everything you need to get what you want to get into the ground. It's just the digging part. I think you nailed it because the prepping community has great thinkers. Second to none. Great, great thinkers. When you look at innovation, as I was talking to someone, he says, you know, innovation's coming from the American garages now. Oh, for sure, yeah. Because big industry is on its path, and that's what they do. But when you really look at innovation, it's coming from the garages. And some of these preppers do some spectacular things, and you say, oh, my gosh, they're digging deep, and they're figuring this stuff out. But it doesn't come easy prepping. Nothing comes easy. Nothing comes easy. And we try to make it as simple as possible, as easy as possible and as foolproof as possible. And we went after the women. We literally went after the women and we said, if they can't use it, it's useless. The men can go do stuff and cut down a tree and, you know, play football and do the math and all the rest of that stuff. but it's the women that take care of the households. And if, if we don't, if, if we don't look at that and say, okay, we have to make a smaller gun and we have to make, you know, an automatic transmission. We, if we don't do that, then where are we? Then we just talk about things. So we're a good society. We're a good group. And, um, hats off to all the preppers out there. Hats off. Yeah, no doubt. And I didn't even know it. I went to the website to gather up, uh, you know, the, the, things from the website I wanted to show off on today's show, and I saw you guys run a Labor Day promotion. And folks out there, even if I hate to say this because things happen when I say it. But even if even if we were hacked and and our information was was was, you know, whatever. Oh, yeah. We don't know where you put the safes. Nobody in the world knows where you put the safe. You could put it out in the middle of Yosemite Park. For all we know, I have no idea where you're putting it. I don't want to know what you want to know where you put it. This is on you. And the thing with the safe is if something happens to you and you don't tell someone or you don't put the safe or you don't give it to a lawyer or your kid or friend, it's gone until another civilization comes and finds it because it's going to be in the ground. Nobody's going to know where it's at. It is great protection. There's no doubt about it. Yeah, I've had lawyers. So many people are using it in different ways. I've had lawyers call me up and say, oh, my gosh, when the lawyers and the divorce lawyers find out about this, it's going to open up. Yeah, because you guys could put a million dollars worth of gold in the thing, right? That's on your website. Well, exactly, exactly. That's a big deal when divorce hits if you've got some money worth hiding, for sure. I don't want to. what's going in there. And, you know, people will say, well, people are going to use this for nefarious things. And I say, well, the U S dollar, I mean, what did they use the U S dollar for? So that'd be, you know? Yeah.
