NPM 18: Explosive Inert Mugs!!

National Preparedness Month. Day 18, folks. 18 in a row. Knocking them out of the park, man. And I'm just sitting here asking questions. Being an interviewer is a good gig. It's a pretty good gig. You don't have to think as much. This is the most interviewing I've done probably in, I don't know, well, maybe since our last, what did we do, our Prepper Camp sort of uh educator extravaganza that was pretty fun too i was like a good i get a kick out of interviewing people are cool well our people are cool you know what i mean and we've got pretty cool people with us tonight we're going to be talking about some uh well it's better to show you than to tell i think but what who you're going to meet today is tyler from inert mugs. And uh. Tyler is one of those guys that wants you to succeed in life. And he's not selling you anything like a course to help you figure it out. He's going to sell you the coolest mug you'll ever own. But he's, he's that way with everybody that, um, that I know that talks to him. And every time I talk to him, he's that way. And it's just, uh, I don't know. It's a real blessing to have a guy like that in your life, you know? And so ever, so many people are trying to like, you know, get over on you for something or whatever it is. So you're going to meet Tyler, and we're going to talk about inert mugs. But without further ado, let's bring on the man, the explosive, Tyler, overlord at Inert Mugs. How you doing, my man? Good to have you on the show. A few months in the making. Thanks for having me. I'm great, Steve. Yeah, yeah. It took a minute, but I'm glad we finally solidified it. You and me both, man. You and me both. You froze. Up on us a little bit. I can't tell if I'm lagging or not. You were lagging a little bit. Oh, yeah. Yeah, sorry. Oh, it's all right. Don't worry about it. Well, you know, I'm just going to keep talking and pretending like I'm not lagging at all. And I feel like you're going to talk and I'm going to talk and it's going to get crossed. So I apologize in advance to everybody. I wasn't supposed to be in the office this late, but, you know, Life happens, so here I am making the best of the situation. Well, you sound good now, so we can get rolling. I think what we've got to do is probably put the mugs up so people know what they're dealing with with you and what we're dealing with with inert mugs. And you can explain sort of your motivation to create these things. Because they are awesome. I'm doing the Vanna White thing. Those that are watching, I have my own today. My coffee has long since ran out. My disaster coffee, I should say, has long since ran out. But there you go. This one's the Hellfire. This one actually is one of my unique Hellfire misprints, but that's neither here nor there. Well, sorry, you asked a question. So the inspiration or whatever. Well, actually, truth be told, I had a business partner at one point. The company was under a different name. Things don't always work out, but I had so much fun doing it. I had so much fun making contacts that when we kind of split, the business went its way. Like I actually fell into a funk, like a noticeable funk where my wife was like, yo, you need to pull your head out of your butt and figure out what's going on. And I was just like, I was like, hon, I can't let this go. It's like I had so much fun, you know, meeting people on, you know, I like to talk and I like to get to know people and just share stories. So I decided just to take. Just jump in. I know nothing about business at all. I'm not formally trained by any means. I'm here to figure it out, man. I get it. I get it. Well, you you got one of the biggest problems. struggles out of the way and that is uh developing an awesome product right i think you definitely have a that's true you know go. Ahead yeah this is yeah sorry so um again this is something that i'm actually kind of shocked that there's really not more people doing it uh so i was a prior uh explosive ordnance disposal technician in the which is a really long, drawn-out way of saying I was the guy from The Hurt Locker, for those of you that have seen that movie. And if you haven't, I was the guy that wore that big green bomb suit and walked down range when everyone else was walking away. So really, I just kind of drew on my inspiration. I love blowing things up, literally. I've been doing bombs for six years. 16 years now um so i'm very lucky that i'm uh i'm still in the industry um so that was really just my inspiration was like all the cool stuff that uh that i got to encounter when i was in the marine corps doing the bomb disposal thing um some of my other designs like my most some of my most recent designs are the crayon tumblers i was actually in the shower it was. The Give everybody a look at those. Oh, we didn't lose them before the big story, did we? Yeah, we lost Tyler for a moment. Hey, don't worry about it. I'm so terrified this is going to happen. Don't worry about it. I'm so sorry, everybody. No, it's all good, man. We'll do. In the shower. What was the last thing you heard? What did I? You said you were in the shower. I was in the shower and it just dawned on me. Yeah. Cause you know, everyone makes fun of Marines for being crayon eaters. And I was just like, you know, I started just like, okay, if I was to design my own crayon, like what would I call it? And the first one that came to mind was blue Falcon Berry, you know, for the infamous blue Falcon, uh, which is someone, a buddy effer. Uh, I'm not going to say the terrible word online, but, uh, So I just, I'm like literally laughing to myself as I'm coming up with these crayon names. And then that's what you see today. A lot of this stuff. Look, man. These are just like designs. Yeah. And I can look, I can customize too, you know, and I actually did a run of a Navy crayons for my, uh, for one of my good friends. And he's actually my coin guy to my coin supplier. We did a whole series for the Navy, uh, I've done a custom set for a birthday presents. Um, so it's really fun. And that's one of my favorite parts about this industry. And this job is getting to do custom work for people because I always, I'm like, well, okay, tell me like, I'm actually working on a, a 120 millimeter mortar right now, half one five, five half WP. And it's like, well, explain to me why you want that. So then it's great, man. Cause I get to hear their stories, especially the old guys. I did a, I did a torpedo for a dude that was like on a submarine. I mean, you talk about cool stories, dude. It's, it's so much fun. I really do love it. Yeah. It's a great idea, man. And it feels like it kind of fits on, uh, on a lot of levels. You know what I mean? Because like, I have no military background, but you know, there's a lot of things here that are sweet. I think that, uh, CS gas Tumblr is awesome. The thermite one is great. I mean, you know, the, for us larpers in the audience we would like this stuff too you know and it's just really i i really i think one of the best one of my personal favorites actually is the this is new i think i don't remember this when i first saw your website but your cheese spread with jalapenos from the mre that is yeah i feel like you could do. That once yeah that one's newer you could definitely i have a couple other mres right yeah yeah we do ceramic coffee mugs too actually you're. Phone cases your phone cases look great. So uh actually in addition to so look man i you know like you said in the intro which by the way beautiful intro i appreciate it you set the bar really high now i gotta live up to it um i i love partnering with other uh you know like-minded individuals not everybody has to be a veteran like yourself you said um but it's another fellow veteran that makes phone cases and um i actually bought but i have three of them for my work phone So this is one of them that's not on my work phone currently. And they're great, and there's no reason for us to compete, you know. I've got a couple I just recently turned around. This is a C4 block, and it's also a coin holder. So, you know, I'm trying to– I'm doing my part to help my fellow veteran business owners succeed. Or like-minded individuals. I should say because you know as for those of you that don't know we do sell disaster coffee which i freaking love by the way um you know small businesses we need to work together we need to work out for each other you. Know well one of my business partner phil he is a uh military veteran So you're still holding up your veteran brothers and sisters here. Well, and again, like-minded individuals too, like you said. Yeah, there it is. There's a lot of people. I've met so many people that they just want to take. They want to take more than they want to give. Oh, no doubt about it. I think how long have we been? Maybe coming up on a year anniversary of working together. Yeah, probably about that. But yeah, it took me like three years to solidify a coffee company. How would it take me three years to finally find a coffee company that didn't want to screw me over, you know? So I'm blessed. Thank you. I appreciate disaster coffee. Amen. Yeah, well, it's a good people thing is what it is. You know what I mean? And in the prepping community, it's probably similar. I hope it's similar in the military veteran community. But one thing's for sure, in the prepping community, like, they make a lot of good people. And when you find really good people, you latch on. So that's kind of what we, you know, that's our network. That's our whole, that's our literal network, our broadcast network, our people network. You know what I mean? It's just all good people. And if nothing else, guys, this is my business advice. If nothing else, if you do business with good people, at least you get to do business with good people every day. You know what I mean? Whether you stay in business, go out of business, whatever happens, at least you get the pleasure of hanging with people. And that goes a long way, man. Cause you can do business with miserable assholes and that's no fun. You know? Yeah. And a lot of, a lot of these people that I've worked with, a lot of the relationships that I've formed, they've actually like grown into friendships. Like one of my best friends that lives right down the road from me now, I met because I literally wouldn't have met him if I'd never done this. So, um you know like you said surround yourself with good people and uh relationships can blossom from there. Rumor has it, guys, we might... Rumor has it that Andrew Bobo might be working on something disaster coffee-ish with inert mugs, so keep your eyes peeled for that. That'll be fun. I've heard similar rumors, too. So what do you see in the future? You got any designs that are on the drawing board or any pie-in-the-sky stuff you want to do? Oh, man. You know, it's my... My vision is always this big. It's feedback that doesn't always match the vision, right? Isn't that always the problem? I do actually have designs that are already... I've already sent out for samples. I've already looked them over. I've scrutinized them. I like to do a little beta testing, if you will, with some of my friends and kind of get their feedback. One of the biggest things is if I make a mistake... off of one of these ordinance mugs, I'm going to hear it from my community. Every EOD tech in the world is going to come at me. So, uh, yeah, I've got some that have already been approved. Um, I'm just waiting. Uh, I'm waiting. I got to clear some space out in the warehouse. So that way I can, I got, I got to make big orders at a time. Uh, so, you know, for, for those of you that are wondering what that is, some of those mugs, I do make an house and literally I print everything off and I'm in there sweating in my garage, making them, uh, others. I actually have a factory that make it for me and it's all uh really high quality uv printing very expensive equipment that i hope to one day own and i hope to uh fully be doing this that's where that's where i need the population support so buy 10 000 mugs from me and uh support me. Hey it's a lot of people out there gonna see this thing so Holiday times right around the corner. You know, inner mugs would probably do good with like a holiday. An annual holiday mug would probably be a really cool product. I'm sure you could get real spicy with something like that. You know what I mean? That could be fun. Yeah. Under the missile and all that business. Well, Tyler, let's definitely make it a point to bring you back on anytime you release something. We'll bring you back on and we'll talk about it because, you know, you're part of the PBN family at this point. So we might as well have you on more. Plus, I'm sure you got some great stories about blowing shit up that you might as well talk about here, right? I don't know how many outlets you have for that stuff, but we'd love to have you back on. It's, I mean, yeah, absolutely. Like I said, I love talking.
