[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Late to the party a bit but still much party and to be done.

[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about recession prepping, great depression prepping.

[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Fundamentally, what I want to talk about in short today is getting free stuff.

[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Not our free stuff. You can always get our free stuff but there's just a lot of free opportunity out there.

[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you take advantage of it.

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you happen about the art sales at the end of the day.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a yard sailing is a big thing in my neck of the woods man.

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you frequent a Facebook market place.

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you visit Craigslist's free section.

[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: But what I can tell you for sure is,

[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: if you're willing to drive, if you're willing to make some contacts, if you're willing to reach out to people you don't know.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're safe about it, if you've got a pickup truck or a trailer.

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: There's a whole hell of a lot of possibilities out there for you on the free side of prepping.

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not talking about PDFs.

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not talking about things you can download.

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about building things.

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about making things that make a difference.

[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about finding things that, you know, maybe you could never afford something I missed out on a couple weeks ago.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I've been wanting to build an outside charcoal stove essentially, out of brick.

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: And someone was giving away basically all the brick that I needed.

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: And I just didn't get around to getting it done.

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I went after some slate.

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't get a call back on the slate.

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_00]: So what's important to understand is you'll find things you'll reach out and sometimes you won't get things.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you just won't get them.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: But when you do, it's a big win, man. And it's free.

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_00]: It's national prepared in a month. You might as well go for it.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_00]: One thing that seems to be a staple, at least in my neck of the woods.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure if you look around, you'll find them as well.

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Our pallets and you know, pallet building is a thing. You can build a lot of stuff from pallets.

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And I see them all the time. I see them all the time.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Pallets to be picked up, pallets that are 100% free. You come and haul them.

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_00]: You can build chicken coops. You can build all kinds of stuff with them.

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I see the guy build a, like an outdoor sauna with pallets.

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Playhouses with pallets, sheds with pallets. You can build a decks.

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't build anything with pallets. Free prepping is a thing.

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Years ago, I talked about the window closing on prepping.

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I talked to you about the idea that this prepping phase is going to get harder and harder as time goes on,

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_00]: not because like some maniacal forces up against you.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: But because the cost of doing business goes up, the cost of things goes up. You know what I mean?

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And what has happened though and what you need to think about and what you need to take advantage of is that America has gone through a serious time of plenty,

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: a serious time of convenience, a serious time of affordability and consumerism.

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And the average American has way more cussing items than they need, right?

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And they're trying to make room. They're trying to get rid of them, they're trying to sell them, but, but, but, but, but, and,

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_00]: oh, thrift shops as well.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Thrift shops are the king of it all. If you could find a good thrift, some thrift shops you walk into and they're just like overpriced.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it, you'd be better off going to a regular retailer.

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: You need to find those thrift shops that exist where things are just insanely underpriced.

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And they exist, man, they most certainly exist.

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_00]: So look for the deals. Look for the deals, look for the steels, know how to get the freebies.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Because a lot of building can be done. A lot of things that you tell yourself you can't do because of money can be done

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: with the freebies. I know this because I see some freebies that I should be taking advantage of that I don't.

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So keep that in mind.

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Dave Jones, the NBC guy, I think may have single handedly created a entirely new show for PBS.

[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I think this prepartip of the day business.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Especially the way he's doing it now, he's got him down to like a minute.

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's something I want to add to the network. You guys give me what you think about that, but

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I really like a standalone one to two minute prepartip of the day, five days a week, maybe even seven days a week.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, they can be they can be batch produced so that's kind of easy.

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_00]: But we may we may continue on this maybe a new tradition for PBS and all the time.

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, so in other words between shows or something like that you get a prepartip of the day or it would be a standalone podcast in and of itself.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_00]: But we got more than I know between us all we've got way more than 365 prepartips.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_00]: That sounds like a lot, but it's not really that many.

[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Dave and I are probably going to crank out 60 this month alone and I'm doing it in passing.

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean? I haven't sat down and created a prepartip spreadsheet or anything like that.

[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_00]: So I've got a lot of good ones too.

[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. Sorry, I'm trying to put my cup coffee cup back.

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: It's it's fall here. Today is fall.

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Today I've got the button up shirt on. I've got the coffee. There's leaves falling already it's here.

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_00]: They call them the Burmunt, sweeps to call them the months that end in our or the oyster months because now's the time where you start eating good oysters start getting good oysters.

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_00]: What else? Prep and cheap and free man. You can do it.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, search free local go to go to the art sales at the end of the day.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you're looking for cheap yard sales are great go to the rich neighborhoods.

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_00]: The art sales are rich neighborhoods. You can get incredible deals and incredible stuff.

[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_00]: And then find that those over the top thrift shops man. Find those top tier thrift shops that get the job done for you because they're essential.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_00]: They're essential in life. Like I don't buy brand new dinner tables dinner tables finished.

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I go to a thrift shop close to me. I get a beautiful, a beautiful dining room table usually one that can be leafed out several sections so we can have big thanks giving big Christmas is all that kind of stuff.

[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And you know, it's rare that I spend over a hundred bucks. You got to seek these places out guys. You know if if we're headed in the direction I think we are, which is the the impossibility of returning to price normal sea.

[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And it really seems that way no matter what, you know, it seems like even if Donald Trump gets in and starts fracking and drilling and everything.

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they'll cut prices but I don't know. I don't know that our backs are not going to be broken by what we've done with immigration and so on in the country and war and printing a money. Right it's inevitable.

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_00]: We know of Kamala gets in and does price.

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Custing.

[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll call it price cussing.

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: If she does price cussing then there's no doubt that everything's going to be screwed up.

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: And those things have proven themselves time and time again to collapse everything economies are large. You know the moment the government tells a retailer to sell a thing in a certain price it's over.

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_00]: You got Venezuela, right?

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_00]: We are running shows up at rumble folks if you want to get into that it's urban survival over there at rumble.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_00]: What else do we got today? What is today anyway? Tuesday. I haven't heard from El Douglas Hogan, I'm sure if there'll be a rising republic.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to build a PVC scare crow.

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: The next generation, I'm sorry, I'll have pint-sized prepping projects if you remember that.

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do that today.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Get out from under there, girl.

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_00]: One of my dogs is ran underneath the shed. Come on get out from under that shed.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: She looks like a demon crawling out from hell. Are you stuck?

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh boy, she's playing under there at her own risk.

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Raccoons, possums, snakes, I don't know what's under there. She's having a blast.

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay folks, listen, take advantage of national preparedness month. Okay, it's a big deal. It's a big time. There's a lot of things one can do to be more prepared.

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_00]: From planting, to building, to even something as simple. Last year for example, I think it was last year.

[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_00]: My two years ago. I installed all kinds of gas gets around my doors

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: To assure that we're going to maximize our heat whatever method of heat we're using.

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Right? Maximizing insulation in the home, windows, doors, all that kind of stuff. Of course that's prepping.

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_00]: The management of resources undoubtedly, right?

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And so there are tons of things it can be done this time of year.

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably one of the biggest things you need to prepare for is the leaf.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, you've got a decision to make the moment these leaves start falling and they're in my yard already.

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the fall leaves are here. There leaves haven't changed, but they're here.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_00]: You have to make a decision whether you want to break all this gold up and put it in the trash bags and have people collected or take it to the dump.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Or do you want to break it all into a compost pile and make compost?

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_00]: To me it's a no-brainer.

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, you've got to make that decision. You've got to build a little bit of infrastructure to hold all these leaves and grass clippings.

[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Now is the time because you get the grass and the leaves. You get the green and you get the brown.

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And when you mix the green and the brown that's how you get the cooking with the compost.

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, fundamentally now is the time. Figure all that out.

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you want to sustainably know better way, it's a sustainably feed your garden and composting.

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Creating compost tea, creating compost into your garden beds, that kind of thing.
