72 Hours In Not Enough!!

NBC Guy Special Report: 72 Hours Isn't Enough — The Pentagon's 90-Day PlanIs America really prepared for a prolonged national emergency? For decades, Americans have been encouraged to maintain at least 72 hours of emergency supplies. But now, the Pentagon's FORTRESS initiative is raising new questions about military readiness and the ability of major installations to operate independently for extended periods.Recent reporting describes a goal of sustaining essential military operations for as long as 90 days without outside infrastructure support. But what does that really mean?In this NBC Guy Special Report, Dave Jones examines the Pentagon's preparedness initiative, military ammunition and logistics, and America's growing dependence on the electrical grid.Drawing on his experience as an Army officer and emergency operations Watch Officer, Dave discusses what emergency exercises can teach us—and what they sometimes fail to reveal about real disasters. We'll also revisit National Geographic's American Blackout, the fictional 10-day nationwide power outage that illustrated how quickly everyday life can unravel when electricity disappears. In this episode:
  • What the Pentagon's reported 90-day readiness goal actually means
  • The difference between keeping military bases operational and sustaining combat forces
  • Why emergency plans don't always survive real-world conditions
  • The cascading consequences of prolonged electrical-grid failures
  • Why 72 hours should be the beginning—not the end—of family preparedness
  • What American households can do to build greater resilience

[00:00:56] We are the Prepper Broadcasting Network. We are the Prepper Broadcasting Network. Hello everyone out there in Internet Radio Land. This is Dave Jones, the NBC guy, coming to you on this Tuesday. Tactical Tuesday. What's up? What's up? What's up on Tactical Tuesday?

[00:01:26] Hey, I want you to know, PBN Family, I started this YouTube channel, Prepping Up with the Joneses, and the AI says we're doing great. I don't know. Seems like 28 subscribers. Doesn't seem very good. But anyway, I started a video today. And I was going to post it to PBN and Prepping Up with the Joneses.

[00:01:56] Okay? And I had a great backdrop and a script. And I even put a sport coat and a shirt on. And I was recording this thing. I got it all done. And then I thought, man, I got to edit this yet. Because there were a few bloopers. And I said, you know what?

[00:02:25] I'm going to take the intrepid commander's advice. That was not me. That was not Dave Jones, the NBC guy. That was Dave Jones, the guy that was too prepared and too scripted. I'm great off the cuff. Not so much when it's scripted. Okay?

[00:02:52] So I'm not even going to edit this thing. I am not going to put it up anywhere. I'm not going to spend the time doing it. I am just doing this, Daily Audio Cash. And I will give you the highlights of what the script said. And I hope you go over to Prepping Up with the Joneses and subscribe.

[00:03:17] We do a show every Sunday called Stability Watch. And it watches 14, well, actually 28 different indicators. Okay? So there's 14 financial and 14 war relating to preparation for war.

[00:03:42] And we find out whether we're becoming more stable or less stable economically and also on a war footing. So that's Stability Watch. And that was the whole reason why I was doing this video.

[00:04:00] So the intrepid commander eluded yesterday to a Pentagon plan to sustain operations for 90 days at every major military installation in the United States. Now, first of all, let me say that that is not where we are today. We are not there today. And this is a plan.

[00:04:28] And there's a huge difference between plans and being able to execute. Oh, man, do I know that. And when I was in Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, we had binders full of plans. Binders and binders full. And I'll tell you, you started with the plan.

[00:04:55] But as soon as the snow started falling, you found out quickly where your plan fell apart. And that includes the exercises. We did tons and tons of exercises. Now, keep in mind that all the exercises I'm talking about happened after 9-11. So you would think we learned great after actions information after 9-11. And we did.

[00:05:25] We did. Truthfully, we learned a lot from 9-11. But there's some things that you do in an exercise that you can't do in real life and vice versa. For instance, every exercise I ever participated in, there were compressed time. Okay, I think there was only one exercise that actually ran real time that we ever did.

[00:05:54] But there was, it was compressed time. You would get, in a three-shift period, a 24-hour period, if we ran this exercise for 24 hours, it would simulate like five days. And you would get compressed time. And not only that, things always showed up. You requested X, you got X.

[00:06:23] There was never a shortage. There was never a mismatch. There was never any confusion. Communication always worked. Because there was no snowstorm. There was no bad weather. All the cell towers were up. Everything was working. The internet worked.

[00:06:44] Okay, so you could see where an exercise, although it's trying to portray something that would happen in real life, it really wasn't real life. While I was a watch officer, six inches of snow fell in Pennsylvania, and three major interstates shut down, which caused an investigation.

[00:07:13] And it was just, it was a bad, bad thing. And this was, you know, we should have learned lessons from that. But the lessons you learn from exercises are minuscule compared to what you learn from real life. And Katrina. Katrina happened after 9-11. So if Katrina was a big disaster,

[00:07:43] what lessons did we learn from 9-11 that we could have applied to Katrina? Practically none. So whereas the Pentagon is planning to sustain operations. Another question I had. Sustainment? Is it survival? Or is it combat operations? Because those are two different things.

[00:08:12] Way different things. Because in combat operations, you need water and you need ammo. Are they saying that they want 90 days of combat operational readiness? I don't think that's what they're saying because can you imagine how much ammunition for every weapon system that you have? 90 days of sustained combat operation?

[00:08:41] It's, you know, it's unbelievable. And then why? Why is this? Of course we know the 72-hour kit is not enough. Here at PBN and just about every prepper thing I've ever heard of outside of FEMA says that 72 hours is not enough.

[00:09:05] Trust me, the floodwaters do not recede in 72 hours. And what happens after the third day? What happens when the emergency happens for four days? What then? And all I got to do is pass you over to what happened during Biden,

[00:09:35] the Biden administration with the landslides and the hurricane that caused the rain in South Carolina, North Carolina, and parts of Tennessee where the mountain slid off the side of, you know, that was days and weeks and months and some of it still isn't fixed.

[00:10:00] You can go down through there today and see the damage that was caused by that. So a 72-hour kit is a pipe dream. 72 hours may be a good starting point. Yeah. And 72 hours is better than nothing.

[00:10:21] But you need way more than 72 hours worth of food, water, medical supplies, electricity. You know, it's just, it's, you know, start where you are. Start right now. Establish a position and improve upon it daily. I always say this, and I mean it.

[00:10:49] Look at where you are right now. Take an honest assessment. Now, every week when you go get groceries, grab one or two extra things. Things that you already eat, don't eat, get spam if you've never eaten spam. Get the things that you already eat, put extra on the shelf, rotate them out.

[00:11:16] I know that the PBN audience has heard all this before. I know that. You're way smarter and way further along than the average American. But the average American doesn't even understand why the Pentagon might be saying this. Is this to cover up or adjust for years of neglect in readiness?

[00:11:42] Is this 90-day plan trying to get things more prepared for the installations? Or is this a prelude to, you know, preparations for a major conflict? Now, I'm not saying we're going to war or any of that kind of stuff.

[00:12:05] But the two things, you know, preparing to sustain operations is a good start for preparing for war. And you'd have to be an idiot not to even think of this. So, what is this all about?

[00:12:27] And does the Pentagon see something on the horizon that the rest of us are blind to? I don't know. I actually have more questions than I got answers. One of the questions is, how much is this going to cost? I mean, what they're proposing is pretty unbelievable. Not that it's not needed. Oh, it's definitely needed.

[00:12:55] I mean, just think of the communities that surround these military bases. They would be in great shape if the military base did not, you know, rely on the electrical grid. More electricity means more electricity for everybody. And I'm glad that they're listening to the PBN.

[00:13:24] Because a week or two ago, when the grid emergency happened, I said they should use these nukes, these nuclear reactors that they use in subs and aircraft carriers. And apparently they're looking at this. And this stems from an interview I did back when COVID first hit.

[00:13:48] But I interviewed a reactor operator about the electrical grid and all kinds of stuff. Oh, I'm getting a call. Yeah, so then I also say that in 2013, there was a docudrama that was made by Nat Geo. And it was called American Blackout or Blackout America. I'm not sure which words first.

[00:14:16] You should check that out. Anybody that hasn't seen it should see it. Because it's really eye-opening. That thing that Nat Geo put out in 2013 is really good. Because if you watch this thing, you will get an idea of where you stand.

[00:14:43] It takes a couple different families and follows them throughout a grid-down emergency. I think someone, some foreign terrorist group hacked into the electrical grid and shut Texas' grid down. And that caused a cascading effect in the whole country that caused electrical grid failure.

[00:15:10] And I think the power was down for something like five or seven days or ten days, something like that. Like a week without power. And it follows a couple in New York City in an apartment building. There was a college kid that was stuck in an elevator. It's very good. It's very good.

[00:15:35] And if you watch that, ask yourself, what would you do if you were in this situation? And it's one small thing. I mean, it's not a small thing. It's one thing. If the electric grid goes down, or should I say when the electric grid goes down,

[00:15:57] it's going to cause a number of problems that will just, I mean, think about it. Refrigeration down. I was in that disaster that occurred two years ago. And I saw a line of people in a grocery store parking lot, a Piggly Wiggly.

[00:16:27] And they went all the way, the line went all the way from the door down to the end of the parking lot, across the width of the parking lot, and then back down to the store. That's how long the line was. And these people were standing in line. And I think Piggly Wiggly was just giving the food away because they had no refrigeration.

[00:16:54] There was no electricity, no refrigeration. And it was going to be a long, long time before power was restored. So, you have to look at it from that situation. Put your family in that position. How would you fare? What would you do?

[00:17:20] And then, you know, start small, baby steps. Improve upon your position daily. Daily, weekly, monthly. Hopefully, you know, preparedness is not about being afraid. It's about taking care of your family. It's about doing the things now while the sun is shining and the electric's on

[00:17:51] so that you can weather these storms. And if you want to know what we're doing here at the Jones Homestead, the Jones Stead, go to Prepping Up with the Joneses. Follow us there. Subscribe, like, whatever you do on YouTube. I think 28 subscribers isn't very much, but the AI tells me we're growing. So, there you go.

[00:18:20] And check out Stability Watch. It's like a 15, 20-minute show each week. And we cover this past week's headlines. Of course, today is the Israeli elections. And next week will be our elections. And there's talk in the back channel that there may be election night coverage here on PBN. So, stay tuned for that.

[00:18:48] It's going to be interesting. It's going to be interesting. Let's see what happens in the Middle East after the election. Yeah. Let's see. Let's see what gas prices do. That was another thing. On Stability Watch this past week, I talked about how the $100 a barrel trigger, you know, that the news media is pounding,

[00:19:18] that $100, look, there is a cost to bringing oil out of the ground. There is a cost to do that. And there's a cost to processing it and refining it and distributing it. There's a cost to all of that. Now, what that cost is, I'm sure, is more expensive today

[00:19:45] than they were bashing Bush about when we went into Iraq. Okay? They were bashing Bush back then at $100 a barrel. Now, inflation has happened. I mean, I don't have to tell you that everything has gone up since then. You know that.

[00:20:12] So, $100 a barrel of fuel is not accurate anymore because of inflation. So, at Stability Watch, our trigger point is 150 or greater. Anyway, that's the last Stability Watch episode. We talked about that and other stuff. Anyway, I'm going to wrap this up because, you know what?

[00:20:41] This is longer than I was going to do the video for and the video ain't going out. This is what you're going to get, PBN family. So, take care. And prep on. And prep on.
