[00:00:09] Welcome back to the Changing Earth Podcast with author Sarah F. Hathaway and co-host Chen Gibson.

[00:00:16] Blending survival fiction and fact to bring you entertaining education that will help you dream, survive, and thrive.

[00:00:25] And now, here's your host, Sarah F. Hathaway and Chen Gibson.

[00:00:32] Welcome back to the Changing Earth Podcast. This is episode number 471.

[00:00:38] I know we're in season 16, but I have no idea what episode we're on in 16.

[00:00:43] It's just been a wild ride lately. Hey, Chen, what's up?

[00:00:47] Hey, Chen's up, y'all.

[00:00:50] Oh, man. Yeah, it's been scramble sauce ever since, like, Helene, and then we finished up Virgis.

[00:00:58] And so, yeah. How you doing over there?

[00:01:04] I'm doing.

[00:01:05] Doing.

[00:01:06] Like I said in that text, I feel like I'm a pinball in the pinball machine just bouncing from one thing to the next.

[00:01:13] Oh, man. Welcome to my world.

[00:01:15] I just had too many projects and not enough time for sure.

[00:01:20] Yeah, for sure.

[00:01:22] We're finally getting some rain, though, which is nice.

[00:01:24] We had a really dry September and October.

[00:01:28] So, yeah.

[00:01:29] It's nice to get some storms back through, which I never thought I would say.

[00:01:34] After the June we had, literally, it was, like, crazy down here.

[00:01:38] So, and then right into Helene and all that.

[00:01:42] Speaking of Helene, Changing Earth books, the novels are on sale.

[00:01:49] I only have 16 of those sets left, guys.

[00:01:52] So, if you want in on it, use Helene, all capital H-E-L-E-N-E, and you're basically getting them at cost.

[00:02:02] It's just kind of my...

[00:02:03] Are these watermarked copies from Helene?

[00:02:07] Yeah.

[00:02:08] Actually, they are not watermarked.

[00:02:12] They, that's one part of our trailer that stayed really, really dry.

[00:02:15] But they were in Hurricane Helene.

[00:02:19] So, you can, you know...

[00:02:20] They are the fibers of the storm.

[00:02:23] Yes, sir.

[00:02:24] You have that, you know, added to your list of coolness for them.

[00:02:28] Yeah.

[00:02:28] So, I only have, I think, 16 left.

[00:02:33] Oh, you know what we should...

[00:02:34] It might even be left.

[00:02:35] You've got to put this on the idea list for next year.

[00:02:39] We should have had the characters sign one copy.

[00:02:42] Or one set.

[00:02:44] Oh, like from the audio drama?

[00:02:46] Yeah.

[00:02:47] Fair.

[00:02:47] When we get, like, this year we were a little short.

[00:02:50] But it would be cool to have a set that, like...

[00:02:53] When we get the whole crew there.

[00:02:54] Yeah, right?

[00:02:55] That's so legit.

[00:02:56] Yeah.

[00:02:57] If we had, like, all the...

[00:02:58] Yeah.

[00:02:59] That would be really cool, actually.

[00:03:01] I'm glad you thought of that.

[00:03:02] I will definitely do that.

[00:03:04] That's what I'm here for.

[00:03:05] Yeah.

[00:03:07] Oh, all right.

[00:03:08] Garden Girls in the chat room.

[00:03:10] We're just having kind of a chill episode.

[00:03:14] We're doing a catch-up because I feel like every show we've done since Celine has just been

[00:03:21] kind of craziness.

[00:03:24] We had so much important stuff going on.

[00:03:26] And now, you know, amen.

[00:03:29] Trump got in office.

[00:03:32] And, you know, it seems like everybody's just taking a deep breath.

[00:03:36] Like, wow.

[00:03:37] I can't believe the weight that seems like it's been lifted off the United States already.

[00:03:41] And he's not even in office yet.

[00:03:42] You know?

[00:03:43] It's crazy.

[00:03:45] Crazy.

[00:03:46] Every day, it seems like, who is he picking next?

[00:03:49] His little, like...

[00:03:50] The crew!

[00:03:52] Yeah.

[00:03:52] The team is quite awesome.

[00:03:54] It is.

[00:03:56] It is.

[00:03:56] And I'm really happy to see that because, I mean, let's not sugarcoat it at all.

[00:04:02] Trump's getting up there in years, you know?

[00:04:04] Well, that, he got so hogtied in his first go-around.

[00:04:09] Yep.

[00:04:10] Fair with that as well.

[00:04:11] But I was really worried about who's coming next.

[00:04:14] Where's the leadership to really take the reins after?

[00:04:20] And I think he's...

[00:04:21] And all these people are going to be in there working, figuring out how to work together

[00:04:25] and everything.

[00:04:26] So, go, you know, into the future we should be.

[00:04:29] Yeah.

[00:04:30] Go team.

[00:04:30] Yeah.

[00:04:30] I'm excited about this no income tax.

[00:04:33] That would be excellent.

[00:04:36] Excellent.

[00:04:38] Man, we can finally work overtime and not have Uncle Sam take, like, half of it.

[00:04:42] I'm like, what is the point, you know, when I make, like, money with commissions and whatnot?

[00:04:47] I only claim a certain amount.

[00:04:49] Like, I'll only put a certain amount through each pay period or else I've given it...

[00:04:54] Like, gee, I'm so glad I made all those sales.

[00:04:56] I just gave the government half my money.

[00:04:57] I know, right?

[00:04:58] Yeah.

[00:04:59] That's what we kind of said.

[00:05:00] Well, I might as well just stay retired and just do stuff for ourselves instead of paying

[00:05:04] other people to do it.

[00:05:05] Yeah, that's legit.

[00:05:07] It's, you know, it's a major...

[00:05:10] That's one of the things I noticed, really, about California.

[00:05:12] They have so many social programs in place, which, you know, whatever, however you feel

[00:05:18] about that.

[00:05:19] But, for example, with healthcare, if you're poor enough, you get state healthcare, which

[00:05:25] means, like, anything that's a necessity is going to get taken care of by the state.

[00:05:29] Great.

[00:05:30] As soon as you move up into that just above poor class, then you're like this middle class

[00:05:36] person who now you don't qualify for that state-funded program.

[00:05:40] But you still don't have the money to actually pay for healthcare or use it.

[00:05:45] And so you're just hanging out there in the wind, you know, in that, like...

[00:05:50] And your paycheck is getting pulled into that pot that's paying for the people to have all

[00:05:59] the stuff.

[00:05:59] Right.

[00:06:00] It encourages people, honestly, to like, hey, my wife's going to quit working or my

[00:06:04] husband's going to quit working so that we can make less money so we can get state funded

[00:06:08] for our healthcare.

[00:06:10] Well, it's math that you really have to do.

[00:06:12] It is.

[00:06:13] I mean, we literally did the math.

[00:06:15] It was like, you know, we can live off of one paycheck and we'll just...

[00:06:19] And every time I do something, it's like, well, I just...

[00:06:22] The door handle broke off my wife's car, so I went to YouTube, figured out how to fix it,

[00:06:27] or the part fixed it.

[00:06:28] I said, well, there you go, honey.

[00:06:29] That's like 200 bucks I made today.

[00:06:31] Right?

[00:06:31] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:06:32] What would they cost at the dealership to put a new handle on, right?

[00:06:36] Yeah.

[00:06:37] So we kind of have a running joke about whenever I do something like that, I'm earning my salary.

[00:06:42] It's true.

[00:06:43] That's true.

[00:06:44] I'm only stumbling on that because I just had, like, a recent claim of somebody who took

[00:06:48] their car to their buddy who owns a car dealership, and the kid jumped in there, the son of the

[00:06:56] car owner jumped in there and threw it in reverse, and he was rear-ended.

[00:07:01] And so it all comes down to, like, whose insurance is covering that?

[00:07:05] What are the technicalities of it?

[00:07:06] Yeah.

[00:07:07] It's been a hot topic in my brain.

[00:07:08] I was late.

[00:07:09] So for you to pick it out, I was like, oh!

[00:07:13] Yeah, exactly.

[00:07:16] Let's get some business done before we do more chit-chat.

[00:07:20] Changing Earth audio drama, episode nine is up.

[00:07:26] Members, episode 10 is up.

[00:07:29] But I may have forgotten to put it up, so I will go ahead and make sure I do that after

[00:07:34] the show.

[00:07:34] I've been too many projects and not enough time.

[00:07:38] So 10 should be up for members.

[00:07:41] And then I'm digitally recrafting episode one just because, or season one, just because

[00:07:48] it wasn't quite up to my snuff.

[00:07:51] So we're going to have a big release to make sure that everything sounds beautiful.

[00:07:56] And yeah, we're going to all up to speed.

[00:08:00] That's a great little show.

[00:08:01] I'm so excited to be building out where we are because, you know, it's really good stuff.

[00:08:06] But I was like, well, the beginning still needs to have that pop that season four has.

[00:08:13] So off to work we go.

[00:08:17] Right?

[00:08:18] Because, you know, I needed more work.

[00:08:20] I think I felt Doug smack me through the phone when I told him when I was young.

[00:08:24] You know, you're watching too many reruns in Dallas or whatever.

[00:08:28] I'm trying to...

[00:08:29] Even though it's been off the air forever.

[00:08:31] I'm trying to get caught up on my Yellowstone.

[00:08:36] And so...

[00:08:38] I never got...

[00:08:39] I think I watched the first show.

[00:08:43] Yeah.

[00:08:44] But I don't have...

[00:08:45] Is that a Netflix or something?

[00:08:47] No.

[00:08:47] No, it's on one of the cable channels.

[00:08:49] I don't know.

[00:08:50] My husband.

[00:08:51] He takes care of that.

[00:08:52] I just sit there and watch it while I'm working on other stuff.

[00:08:55] So...

[00:08:58] Oh.

[00:08:59] Prime and we have over the air antennas.

[00:09:01] That's it.

[00:09:02] Oh, got you.

[00:09:04] Mm-hmm.

[00:09:04] Yeah, we're old school.

[00:09:05] We like to stick with our cable.

[00:09:07] We're like, you know, if we got the...

[00:09:09] We do have Netflix too, but...

[00:09:11] If we got, you know, the Hulu and the this and the that and everything, by the time you

[00:09:15] add it all up, it's what cable costs you anyway.

[00:09:19] So...

[00:09:19] Yeah.

[00:09:20] We're just old school.

[00:09:22] Yeah, it's okay.

[00:09:23] Yeah.

[00:09:25] I'm just saying.

[00:09:26] We're like...

[00:09:27] So, yeah.

[00:09:28] Change of Earth clearance sale.

[00:09:30] 16 left.

[00:09:31] They're going fast, guys.

[00:09:32] Like hotcakes.

[00:09:33] So, get yours while they last.

[00:09:36] Make a great gift.

[00:09:37] Still have time for Christmas?

[00:09:39] Yeah.

[00:09:39] Right?

[00:09:39] Yeah.

[00:09:40] Make a great Christmas gift.

[00:09:42] Yeah.

[00:09:43] And then the new episodes of the Change of Earth audio drama, season four, is, you know,

[00:09:48] are getting posted.

[00:09:50] The other thing is I've been working on nonfiction book, and a lot of that just started because

[00:09:58] I wanted to make sure that, you know, I have a lot of material for everybody to read on my

[00:10:04] website.

[00:10:04] And with all of the censorship stuff that we were very frightened about, gosh, it looks

[00:10:12] like Trump is, he's come out and said so many great things about reversing all of that and

[00:10:17] allowing our free speech.

[00:10:18] And we'll be able to, you know, discuss topics again as educated people without fear of having

[00:10:25] our shows shut down, which is amazing.

[00:10:28] But, so that kind of started my mission just to make sure that all that great content was

[00:10:33] saved somewhere.

[00:10:35] And so, I started really categorizing things out together.

[00:10:38] And going through our flood content and natural disaster content, I can't tell you how many

[00:10:46] times we talked about in shows, don't rely on FEMA to be your savior after a disaster.

[00:10:56] And you brought out charts on like how long it takes FEMA to actually get around to like

[00:11:02] doing this stuff.

[00:11:05] And so, yeah, and as much so, I'm not, I'm not speaking one way or another for what was

[00:11:13] done or what's being done in North Carolina.

[00:11:15] I'm, I'm, I'm not, I'm not speaking anywhere to that.

[00:11:20] I'm just saying like, people need to understand that that is not like your Superman who's going

[00:11:27] to fly in with Kate to help you out when stuff goes wrong.

[00:11:33] Yeah.

[00:11:33] You know, you gotta be ready.

[00:11:34] You have to be prepared yourself to handle that.

[00:11:37] And everybody I know that was prepared short of having their house, you know, mudslided

[00:11:43] down the hill, which, you know, that sucks.

[00:11:46] You're not gonna be able to do it.

[00:11:47] But for everybody I know that was prepared, yeah, it was crummy.

[00:11:52] Yeah.

[00:11:52] You had, you know, had limited power resources, things like that.

[00:11:56] But it wasn't the amount of devastation that would make you think, wow, we don't have any

[00:12:01] food.

[00:12:02] Maybe we should go loot the neighbors.

[00:12:05] You know?

[00:12:05] And that was happening there.

[00:12:10] So, yeah.

[00:12:11] So that was what really my, ugh.

[00:12:13] And we, like, even when, when Butch came out, like FEMA is not a long-term solution.

[00:12:19] Right.

[00:12:19] FEMA's like, even if they're like firing on all cylinders, they're just the quick fix for the

[00:12:25] moment, not for the, not for the month down the road or the year down.

[00:12:30] They're just for that, like, okay, give me a hot cup of coffee and a blanket kind of thing,

[00:12:34] you know?

[00:12:34] Yeah.

[00:12:35] And not even that.

[00:12:36] Like, we're gonna make sure that the major highways are open and that we get the most

[00:12:42] amount of electricity back on for the most amount of people that we can.

[00:12:46] You know, these major services that they can do.

[00:12:52] I mean, you've been up here, so you know the area.

[00:12:54] I mean, not, you know, visited me yet, but you've been up in the general area.

[00:12:59] And the problem is, like, what happened at my place is the people at the bottom of the

[00:13:05] hill, right by, like, the paved road, they had power a week before we got it because just

[00:13:12] that final little mile or so was, was enough to stall the power company.

[00:13:18] Right.

[00:13:19] Yeah.

[00:13:20] So they're gonna try and, like, do the.

[00:13:21] So there's a lot of people like that that are just outside the reach of the clusters of,

[00:13:27] of, um, population that they're not seeing the help.

[00:13:32] Well, and honestly, like, that's not FEMA's job to.

[00:13:36] No, but I'm saying that's, that's what's happening here.

[00:13:38] Yeah.

[00:13:39] It's not like, like, one time, like, the town to the east of us, they were out for a

[00:13:44] couple days and they had power right back.

[00:13:46] But then, you know, you see Lake Lord, Chimney Rock, they're like.

[00:13:51] No power.

[00:13:52] They're not there.

[00:13:53] Yeah.

[00:13:53] Yeah.

[00:13:54] And most of the time, like, FEMA shouldn't even be involved unless, because this is a

[00:14:00] federal emergency management association.

[00:14:03] So if you have a big wildfire in California and it never jumps state lines, there's, that's

[00:14:09] California's problem.

[00:14:11] You know, they should be the ones having resources to be able to, to, um, get their utilities back

[00:14:16] online, um, assist their, um, insurance companies.

[00:14:21] You know, once it goes catastrophic, then it does tap into federal funds, uh, for disaster

[00:14:26] management.

[00:14:28] But, um, you know, and of course, Helene did do that, went into Tennessee, went into multiple

[00:14:34] states, obviously.

[00:14:36] But, uh, this reliance, I had to kind of chuckle, um, cause like I say, I'm not, I'm

[00:14:42] not give or take, you know, I'm not, I'm not saying that they should have done more.

[00:14:46] Or they should have done less.

[00:14:48] I'm just saying, uh, the understanding should be that they're not there to assist you on

[00:14:53] that level.

[00:14:54] I think there's a big misunderstanding in our country over that right now.

[00:14:59] It's just not going to happen.

[00:15:03] So what else has cleanup looked like after, uh, Helene?

[00:15:06] It's so out of the news, you know, and, uh, short of like scouring YouTube for information,

[00:15:12] they kind of just wanted to sweep that under the rug that that ever even happened.

[00:15:16] Yeah.

[00:15:17] Yeah.

[00:15:17] There's a lot of talk now of, um, like what, what got washed away, what got washed, like

[00:15:25] chemicals and stuff got washed downhill down, you know, downstream.

[00:15:30] So like people are starting to, we're starting to hear, uh, you know, for our checkup.

[00:15:37] And one of the girl that was cleaning my wife's teacher teeth was saying that like there, they

[00:15:44] had like, I think she said like four or so of mud or whatever on the fields that got washed

[00:15:50] up into her fields.

[00:15:51] And when they were out there trying to do cleanup, um, her and her husband were both getting rashes.

[00:15:59] Oh.

[00:16:00] From whatever was, cause like all, everything upstream of us is getting washed down.

[00:16:09] Right.

[00:16:10] Um.

[00:16:10] And even if it's not like a chemical plant, it could just be, you know, that's one of the

[00:16:15] scenarios.

[00:16:15] Of manufacturing.

[00:16:17] Yeah.

[00:16:17] Whatever.

[00:16:17] You know, you know, what did they use to make whatever, you know?

[00:16:23] Yup.

[00:16:23] And even just supplies in people's houses and stuff like, um, in their garages and whatnot,

[00:16:29] that all slurries together as well.

[00:16:32] I was talking to another nurse, um, this weekend and she would say, well, like, so everything

[00:16:40] washed into the mud.

[00:16:41] Now the mud dries out, turns into dust and it becomes airborne.

[00:16:44] Mm.

[00:16:45] Mm.

[00:16:45] Mm.

[00:16:46] So, it's just, so there's a whole, not like, A, what do we do with all this debris?

[00:16:51] I'm bored.

[00:16:51] There's like tons of debris.

[00:16:53] Yeah.

[00:16:54] And now, and then what we do with, um, you know, people are starting to worry about, like

[00:17:00] Lake Lure, we were all excited to go, uh, the wife had just bought a kayak and stuff.

[00:17:05] So we were like, yeah, maybe next summer we'll go, you know.

[00:17:09] Yeah.

[00:17:09] Go kayaking and stuff.

[00:17:10] And that's like, maybe not.

[00:17:12] Maybe, you know.

[00:17:14] I don't want to be swimming in there.

[00:17:16] Wetsuit?

[00:17:17] Yeah.

[00:17:17] Cellophane and duct tape?

[00:17:20] You know, so we should write a story about that.

[00:17:22] I know, right?

[00:17:24] Yeah.

[00:17:26] You know what would be cool if it started out in a wine cellar?

[00:17:31] You got it.

[00:17:32] My favorite start.

[00:17:32] Your favorite.

[00:17:33] My post-lapocatic novel.

[00:17:36] Got me getting hammered.

[00:17:40] Yeah.

[00:17:40] A weak link with a splitting headache.

[00:17:44] Yeah, she did, too.

[00:17:46] In the book.

[00:17:46] I couldn't do that in the audio drama, but you know.

[00:17:50] Yeah.

[00:17:50] Yeah, you got to get a hold of an original book for that, uh, for that story.

[00:17:55] First edition.

[00:17:58] But, yeah, very crazy.

[00:18:00] Um, it's amazing how fast they try to sweep those, the stories under the rug.

[00:18:05] And, like, Spain got absolutely annihilated as well.

[00:18:09] And their people in Valencia are just out in the street, man, because of the mismanagement

[00:18:14] of the disaster.

[00:18:15] I kind of feel a little.

[00:18:16] Where's the theme going?

[00:18:17] Yeah.

[00:18:18] Italy just got hit as well.

[00:18:20] That'll be in our Changing Earth news.

[00:18:22] Um, there's definitely a theme going.

[00:18:24] And it'll make for an interesting winter as well, because if some of those storms just

[00:18:30] start turning to snow precipitation, then that's going to be rather interesting, um,

[00:18:36] going on.

[00:18:36] The weather patterns have been absolutely crazy.

[00:18:39] Um, I don't know if you've been watching, like, Pow Ponder or, um, that, but they show,

[00:18:44] like, what the jet streams look like, and they're just insanity.

[00:18:48] Um, if you don't believe that the poles are on the move and it is affecting our planet,

[00:18:53] then I don't know what to tell you.

[00:18:55] I've got some information where you can go research it and make up your own mind.

[00:18:59] But, um, it's definitely making for some very, very crazy weather patterns.

[00:19:06] So, um, you know, that's where I, I always get off on that stuff.

[00:19:12] So, um, what else have you been up to?

[00:19:14] You've been doing a ton with, um, your Republican Party, which I love getting more involved.

[00:19:22] Yeah, so I got, I've just had this uneasy feeling where you, you, you had said at the beginning

[00:19:29] of the show, it was like, oh, yeah, you know, like we won, right?

[00:19:32] Take a breath and, you know, enjoy the moment.

[00:19:34] But I'm like, you know what?

[00:19:37] I just feel like, you know, we have midterms.

[00:19:41] And I felt like for, for 2024, towards the end, we were fighting, like they were like fighting

[00:19:49] court cases and all this stuff right at the end, you know, and they were like trying to

[00:19:54] get ballots, you know, like voter registration and all this stuff, uh, confirmed or people,

[00:20:02] you know, dead people off the ballot, the rolls.

[00:20:05] The voter rolls.

[00:20:05] And I'm like, so this happens every two years, four years, right?

[00:20:11] It's a cycle.

[00:20:12] It happens.

[00:20:13] Why?

[00:20:13] So I'm, I literally, I showed Sarah the emails that I've been, I've been sending the head

[00:20:19] of my county emails saying we have to not, you know, yay us, enjoy the moment, but we

[00:20:26] have to stay, we have to find ways to get in front of people that aren't participating in

[00:20:34] the, in like the elections and get them more engaged.

[00:20:38] And it can't be something that we do like two weeks before early voting.

[00:20:42] You know, it has to be something that we do now for, you know, 26 or 28.

[00:20:48] Chin's like, I'm just getting warmed up.

[00:20:49] Yeah.

[00:20:51] Well, it's, I just, I had this feeling like right after the, right after the election,

[00:20:56] I was like, yeah, we won, but I just don't feel part of it was cause we can't go back

[00:21:02] to sleep too.

[00:21:03] Yeah.

[00:21:04] So many people woke up like I got to actually care about this.

[00:21:08] I subscribed to like the forward observer, you know, that newsletter that I, and they're

[00:21:14] always talking about how the left is so organized and they're like a freaking machine and they're

[00:21:18] always doing like a, a break late checks, you know, come check, you know, come to our

[00:21:24] little thing in the parking lot, we'll check you.

[00:21:26] And they're always doing this like stuff to get the community involved with them.

[00:21:30] And I'm like, you know what?

[00:21:31] Let's use the playbook.

[00:21:33] Let's do it.

[00:21:33] Yeah.

[00:21:34] I literally said that to, to the guy that, you know, I mean, I know him and, you know,

[00:21:40] talk on the phone and stuff.

[00:21:41] So, you know, I've kind of networked into this and I said, we got to do this.

[00:21:46] We have, you know, we have to do, you know, well, the toy drive and the clothes drive and

[00:21:52] the food drive and all this stuff to get people to say, you know, those people are good people.

[00:21:57] They helped us out.

[00:21:58] You know what?

[00:21:59] All that kind of stuff.

[00:22:00] Yeah.

[00:22:01] Not just the, oh, there's a, you know, there's a Republican coming.

[00:22:05] Now we need you to vote for us.

[00:22:06] We're back.

[00:22:08] No, if we're, we're good stewards inside of our own community, you know, think about your

[00:22:17] town or, you know, your city town, whatever you live in and your County.

[00:22:21] Those are the, you focus your energy on that and find ways to do good for your community through

[00:22:28] that organization.

[00:22:30] It's going to be a chant on city council.

[00:22:32] No, I don't want to.

[00:22:34] I'd rather.

[00:22:36] Uh-huh.

[00:22:37] They'll get you in there.

[00:22:38] I know it.

[00:22:39] I know it.

[00:22:42] No, you're right.

[00:22:43] And, uh.

[00:22:44] We really do have to stay involved.

[00:22:46] Yeah, it did.

[00:22:46] It did encourage me to, um, you know, check it out, see what's going on.

[00:22:51] Um, I'm always just up against the wall with so many different projects, but it's time.

[00:22:56] It's time to, to wake up, to stay awake and get involved, um, and what's going on.

[00:23:02] And the CERT groups, you know, just a piece of that we're really fond with because of the

[00:23:08] preparedness level of it.

[00:23:10] But actually, you know, do some kind of CERT group or even doing the, um, these, um,

[00:23:17] political stuff, it's a great way to network.

[00:23:21] And you'll find a lot of people.

[00:23:23] You'll, you'll, you know, the key words and phrases that people use in conversations.

[00:23:28] Yeah.

[00:23:29] You'll, you'll, you know, sniff out the other like-minded people.

[00:23:33] And it's a great way to do it in a, in a non, um, threatening way.

[00:23:41] Right.

[00:23:42] So you get to meet people and you see them two, three months in a row.

[00:23:46] And then you, you start helping out, volunteering on these little like t-shirt sales or whatever

[00:23:52] that fundraiser is.

[00:23:54] And then you see them, you know, a couple of times a month and then you say, Hey, let's,

[00:23:58] let's get together for coffee or.

[00:24:00] And it's not hard to find.

[00:24:01] I'll help you program your radio.

[00:24:03] Yeah.

[00:24:03] You just need to look up your, your County and then the Republican party.

[00:24:08] And it's not hard to find guys.

[00:24:10] Typically.

[00:24:11] Yeah.

[00:24:11] Like once a month.

[00:24:12] Yep.

[00:24:12] They have like ours has a little pizza party or whatever.

[00:24:14] And they meet, they talk about whatever.

[00:24:18] It's a good, it's a good place to learn who the people are.

[00:24:21] A lot of times the politicians are business owners.

[00:24:24] So you can either, if you like the guy, go make sure that, you know, go to their business

[00:24:29] and, you know, help them.

[00:24:31] Yep.

[00:24:31] And then you can figure out stuff.

[00:24:33] You know, if you, if you have a concern, that's a great place to air it and work towards

[00:24:38] a positive outcome.

[00:24:40] Yeah.

[00:24:41] And one of the big like, uh, things, you know, it's like, Oh, well only old people

[00:24:45] go do that.

[00:24:46] They're the only ones who care or whatnot.

[00:24:48] That's what's wrong.

[00:24:50] That's, that's, that's what's wrong.

[00:24:52] So yeah, it's time.

[00:24:54] It's funny.

[00:24:55] But my one neighbor, literally my neighbor, just, just down the street.

[00:24:59] Uh, she was like, you know, we need to find a meeting place that has daycare.

[00:25:04] I'm like, that's brilliant.

[00:25:05] Cause then you get young families in because they can come and, uh, they can, you know,

[00:25:09] they can have their kids like Sunday school when parents go to church and they bring their

[00:25:14] children to Sunday school.

[00:25:15] Well, if you had a meeting and the kids could all play together supervised and the parents

[00:25:20] can actually focus on the meeting and they get a break.

[00:25:23] And I thought that was a great idea.

[00:25:26] You know, I'm, I'm all for that.

[00:25:28] I think it's like you say, not lose the momentum because you can bet they're out there planning

[00:25:34] like people with power, they don't want to give that up.

[00:25:38] And, uh, yeah, they're figuring out how to get their claws back into everything.

[00:25:42] And if you watched what, um, the democratic party really did, well, specifically, um, Mr.

[00:25:49] Soros, he started funding like all of the little small, smaller elections.

[00:25:54] And being able to get for like judges and stuff.

[00:25:59] Right.

[00:26:00] He was funding that, you know, like the circuit judge and stuff.

[00:26:04] So he, you know, he was getting people that were like aligned with him into positions that

[00:26:10] could actually like small.

[00:26:11] He wasn't just worried about like the big, so that lets you know there's a lot of power

[00:26:15] there.

[00:26:17] And, uh, and what's the most effective way to create change where you live is to get

[00:26:23] involved in where you live.

[00:26:25] It's to get involved in where you live, right?

[00:26:27] Your local county.

[00:26:28] Just where the red MAGA hat is getting it done.

[00:26:31] You know, you gotta get involved in your town or your city or your county.

[00:26:36] You know, it depends.

[00:26:37] Like in rural, we think counties, right?

[00:26:38] Because of all these little towns.

[00:26:41] But, you know, if, if you, if you live outside a big city, well, you might think, you know,

[00:26:46] the city council, but I don't know.

[00:26:50] I'm just like on a thing about this.

[00:26:53] It's just, we gotta, we gotta.

[00:26:55] I think it's awesome.

[00:26:56] It's very motivating.

[00:26:56] Yeah.

[00:26:56] We gotta use the energy that was generated, uh, that, you know, Trump and his whole gang

[00:27:03] generated and push that forward.

[00:27:06] Keep it going.

[00:27:07] Don't let it die out.

[00:27:08] So the other thing we've been talking about is, um, doing a mesh tastic class.

[00:27:15] Yeah.

[00:27:15] Um, I gotta, I gotta tell you, honestly, um, a lot of people don't know where to find them.

[00:27:21] And then, um, like when I turned mine on, I had a hard time, like figuring out where

[00:27:26] the other ones were, that kind of stuff.

[00:27:28] Like the only ones I saw was, so I wouldn't even mind having some kind of class like that.

[00:27:32] Wow.

[00:27:33] So it's, it's touchy because it's, it's like either you're in a place that's loaded with

[00:27:40] them or you're just going to get your family.

[00:27:43] It's like kind of having walkie talkies.

[00:27:45] Right.

[00:27:45] Cause you'll just get your family that, or, you know,

[00:27:48] Well, you said there was that big group in Austin.

[00:27:50] So I was like trying to find that.

[00:27:52] And well, yeah, I don't know if I was doing it right though.

[00:27:57] You know me with my tech, I suck.

[00:27:59] So did you drive to Austin?

[00:28:02] Austin to try to find him?

[00:28:03] No.

[00:28:03] Or did you try to find him?

[00:28:04] Of course not.

[00:28:04] Austin's like three hours away.

[00:28:07] I told you, the radio, the, the, the notes have like a one to five miles, something like

[00:28:13] that radius.

[00:28:14] Well, yeah, but I, I uploaded the one program, the other program that you can do to be able

[00:28:20] to see them on the map.

[00:28:22] Mm-hmm.

[00:28:23] And, uh, yeah, I don't know if I did.

[00:28:25] I don't know.

[00:28:26] You know, but so I think.

[00:28:27] So the cool thing here in the mountains, we have, they put the notes up on the top of

[00:28:33] the mountain.

[00:28:34] So you get much better coverage.

[00:28:37] And then the other thing that I, that I found out they're doing is you can hook them into

[00:28:41] the internet, which, yeah.

[00:28:44] Okay.

[00:28:44] So if the, if the internet goes down.

[00:28:46] Right.

[00:28:47] You're not going to be able to use it.

[00:28:48] But, um, we, what we did find out is Starlink is an amazing, you know, force multiplier.

[00:28:56] Right.

[00:28:56] Right.

[00:28:57] So if you get people with Starlink strategically placed in like town to town to town to town,

[00:29:04] and then you, you hook the, the nodes into the internet through that Starlink.

[00:29:10] So mine could go to yours and yours could be one of the ones that's hooked to the internet

[00:29:16] through a Starlink.

[00:29:17] Then we get to go to the next town over or the next county over.

[00:29:21] Or like I was, I was inside the grocery store with my node literally in my pocket, no big

[00:29:28] fancy antennas or stuff.

[00:29:33] And I went on the, the, the state mesh testing and somebody on travel business was in Salt Lake

[00:29:44] city, Utah replied back to me because he was on the internet and I had made it into an internet

[00:29:52] connection.

[00:29:53] And we got, so that was amazing.

[00:29:54] That blew my mind.

[00:29:55] And that fact and the fact that, um, Starlink is becoming more and more prevalent.

[00:30:02] So you can make it like private or white?

[00:30:06] Yeah, it's private.

[00:30:06] Yeah.

[00:30:07] So only, only anybody in that group could, could have seen it.

[00:30:09] It wasn't.

[00:30:10] Oh, but he was traveling.

[00:30:11] Yep.

[00:30:12] Okay.

[00:30:12] He was traveling.

[00:30:12] He was here from, he was here from North Carolina.

[00:30:16] He had joined that group and then, um, he was on travel and he, his node was hooked up

[00:30:24] to an internet and, um, we could actually talk.

[00:30:28] So, um, like people have family out of state or out of town or, you know, kids away or like

[00:30:39] yourself.

[00:30:40] You could do that.

[00:30:41] Right.

[00:30:41] Especially if they had Starlink.

[00:30:44] Cause that's not, that's not dependent on internet through like cables and stuff on

[00:30:51] the ground.

[00:30:51] On the ground.

[00:30:52] Oh, there it's through the cell.

[00:30:55] Now, if you have this like stupid EMP thing or whatever, that's not going to work, but

[00:30:59] well, that's, that, that negates the whole game.

[00:31:02] That's the CME.

[00:31:03] Like half those satellites are going to be gone anyway.

[00:31:05] Yeah.

[00:31:06] Yeah.

[00:31:06] So layers of, of, of communication, of planning.

[00:31:10] It's just like, uh, you carry band-aids, but a band-aid that might not be big enough for

[00:31:15] everything.

[00:31:16] Well, yeah.

[00:31:17] So.

[00:31:17] Or it might be too big.

[00:31:18] A task isn't going to do everything.

[00:31:20] Yeah.

[00:31:20] I mean, I literally carry a cell phone, a GMRS walkie talkie and a mesh tastic node

[00:31:26] with me.

[00:31:26] Pretty much EDC.

[00:31:29] Crazy.

[00:31:30] The other cool thing is if you want to jump onto walkie talkies, GMRS, I found a repeater

[00:31:36] that's in my county on top of a mountain.

[00:31:38] Uh-huh.

[00:31:39] I was, it had, I was down in South Carolina.

[00:31:42] We went to a Costco and the closest one's like an hour away in South Carolina.

[00:31:46] Yeah.

[00:31:47] I was in the parking lot, getting ready to get out of the car and the repeater pinged

[00:31:54] off, you know, cause they have a little like announcement with their, with the repeater's

[00:31:59] name and stuff.

[00:32:00] It goes off every so often.

[00:32:02] And, um, it pinged off.

[00:32:04] I'm like, holy crap.

[00:32:06] Wow.

[00:32:06] That's an hour away.

[00:32:08] Crazy.

[00:32:08] Crazy.

[00:32:09] So, um, I mean, I tested it from here into my little town where I do all my shopping and

[00:32:14] stuff and it worked.

[00:32:16] I could talk cause I wasn't talking right to my house.

[00:32:18] I was talking up to the repeater and the repeater was shooting back down to my house.

[00:32:24] So, but that's not as secure.

[00:32:25] That worked.

[00:32:26] I kept trying farther and further away and I got out to 26.

[00:32:29] It worked there.

[00:32:30] And then, you know, I was like, I just left it on in the car and I was like, holy smokes.

[00:32:37] That's pretty cool.

[00:32:38] So, repeaters are.

[00:32:39] And GMRS is the one you don't need the licensing for, correct?

[00:32:42] Or it's like a little cheap one?

[00:32:44] It's, it's, it's a $35 for 10 years.

[00:32:47] For the, like, family?

[00:32:48] For the entire family.

[00:32:49] Yep.

[00:32:49] And you don't have to take a test.

[00:32:51] You basically just give Uncle Sam his money to let you talk on your walkie talkie.

[00:32:58] Cause, you know, that's so fair.

[00:33:00] It uses the similar frequencies as FRS, family radio services, which is the ones, the little

[00:33:10] walkie talkies all the kids run around in the backyard with.

[00:33:13] Right.

[00:33:13] But those are only like half watt to two watts, depending on which channel you talk on.

[00:33:19] And GMRS is five watts to 50 watts.

[00:33:23] Okay.

[00:33:23] Yeah.

[00:33:24] So it lets you use, like, if you have one in your car or your house, walkie talkies are

[00:33:28] usually only up to five, sometimes 10 watts.

[00:33:32] But the ones in the car, so like 20, 25 watts.

[00:33:36] And then the ones in the house are usually 50 watts.

[00:33:38] Okay.

[00:33:40] Cause the power draw, you don't want all that power next to your head.

[00:33:42] Fair.

[00:33:44] A walkie talkie.

[00:33:46] And the draw on them.

[00:33:47] Just kill it.

[00:33:48] But my little walkie talkie inside the car, which is the worst scenario.

[00:33:55] I didn't have a magnet on top of the car antenna.

[00:33:58] It was just a little antenna inside the car.

[00:34:01] Uh-huh.

[00:34:01] It was picking up.

[00:34:02] It was an hour away.

[00:34:05] An hour away.

[00:34:05] Yeah.

[00:34:06] Cause it's up on top.

[00:34:08] That's pretty cool.

[00:34:09] So that was amazing.

[00:34:09] So GMRS is, like, I would say, absolutely GMRS.

[00:34:15] Gotta do it.

[00:34:15] Gotta do it.

[00:34:16] That's why we have to get you teaching this class.

[00:34:18] Because I have no idea.

[00:34:20] A back into that could be Mesh-tastic.

[00:34:23] So it's kind of like you have your phone, cell phone number one.

[00:34:28] GMRS walkie talkie number two.

[00:34:30] Mesh-tastic number three.

[00:34:32] And we were, like, I was in the store.

[00:34:35] And my wife would say, where are you?

[00:34:38] And I got that beep off of Mesh-tastic.

[00:34:41] So that was kind of funny.

[00:34:42] So I get a text for Mesh-tastic.

[00:34:45] That's cool.

[00:34:46] I'll have to throw mine on the internet.

[00:34:48] Cause then it would give me an excuse to have it on, at least.

[00:34:51] Cause I'm like, well, nobody else has them.

[00:34:52] So I just, I wouldn't basically leave the mine off.

[00:34:55] But.

[00:34:55] You got a, you have a couple of them, right?

[00:34:58] No.

[00:34:58] I only have the one that I got from.

[00:35:01] Oh, you only have one.

[00:35:08] I'm the winner of the contest.

[00:35:12] At, yeah, I reached out and everything.

[00:35:15] Maybe I'll have you reach out.

[00:35:16] I don't know.

[00:35:18] But yeah.

[00:35:19] So, I mean, I have that other one.

[00:35:22] I'd rather give it away to one of our listeners, though.

[00:35:25] So I think next time we do a family feud, we're going to do a listener, throw out some listener questions and do some giveaways.

[00:35:36] It's the holidays.

[00:35:36] We got to have some fun.

[00:35:38] So.

[00:35:39] Like the guy, Simon, who did, who did the radios for Prepper Camp.

[00:35:46] Yeah.

[00:35:47] Usually works.

[00:35:49] He's got some even better radios than notes.

[00:35:56] So, yeah.

[00:35:57] Check out his site.

[00:35:58] He's got some cool stuff.

[00:36:01] Okay.

[00:36:02] Yeah.

[00:36:02] And that, I put that up.

[00:36:04] I believe I put that up.

[00:36:06] All the information you gave me on the MeshTastic page on ChangeAndEarthSeries.com.

[00:36:11] If you go to ChangeAndEarthSeries.com, there's actually a MeshTastic page now.

[00:36:17] And.

[00:36:18] Nice.

[00:36:19] Yeah.

[00:36:19] I should give you access to that so that you can go in and update it.

[00:36:26] It's pretty easy.

[00:36:27] Yeah.

[00:36:28] Yeah.

[00:36:28] I mean, after the storm, I got right on to Simon.

[00:36:32] And then there's Matt over at AltaVox, which is another distributor.

[00:36:39] And then Rack Wireless, which is a manufacturer.

[00:36:45] Uh-huh.

[00:36:45] Rockland.

[00:36:46] Okay.

[00:36:47] Those are all.

[00:36:48] Those are like my contacts.

[00:36:49] And everybody was really good.

[00:36:51] I've got.

[00:36:51] I got some equipment sent to us that I'm using with the county to help give them some backup.

[00:36:59] So.

[00:37:00] Beautiful.

[00:37:00] Yep.

[00:37:01] No, I know.

[00:37:03] You're going to have to.

[00:37:03] So to see, that's why we're perfect yin and yang.

[00:37:06] Because you got to stay on me about those things.

[00:37:08] And I'll stay on you about your own set.

[00:37:12] And I told you about the success story.

[00:37:14] That nurse that I was telling you about.

[00:37:15] That I talked about.

[00:37:16] Yeah.

[00:37:17] So her little.

[00:37:20] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:37:20] With the group.

[00:37:21] Yeah.

[00:37:22] Mm-hmm.

[00:37:23] And those ladies used it.

[00:37:25] And I told her how.

[00:37:27] That's so smart.

[00:37:27] You know, I've used her as my little success story.

[00:37:30] Because I got them involved.

[00:37:32] And I got them to buy radios.

[00:37:34] And they got their other neighbors involved.

[00:37:36] And they used it.

[00:37:38] They should do that in, like, retirement communities, too.

[00:37:42] It's just.

[00:37:46] It's a good thing.

[00:37:48] It is.

[00:37:49] It is.

[00:37:54] It's a good thing.

[00:38:20] I would definitely love to have it now.

[00:38:20] Every time a kid goes missing.

[00:38:21] And it breaks my heart every time I have to, you know, turn that alert off.

[00:38:28] Because I know that we could have helped.

[00:38:31] But also, it makes me scared for Krish.

[00:38:33] And it would be nice to have kind of a foolproof form of communication that didn't depend on the internet always working or something like that.

[00:38:45] You know, if we were separated when something happened.

[00:38:49] And so, the distance is the thing that's the challenge.

[00:38:53] Yeah.

[00:38:54] So.

[00:38:54] Well, it's.

[00:38:56] It's.

[00:38:57] I think it's getting better and better.

[00:38:59] It's still kind of a new technology.

[00:39:02] So, it's not like just pick your cell phone.

[00:39:04] You got to.

[00:39:06] You got to work a little bit.

[00:39:07] But it's not.

[00:39:09] I mean, it's not cutting edge anymore.

[00:39:11] It's kind of just new.

[00:39:13] Yeah.

[00:39:13] All righty.

[00:39:16] Well, that's actually perfect timing.

[00:39:18] Let's go ahead and jump into some changing earth news.

[00:39:21] I am having a pretty big rainstorm here.

[00:39:24] So, hopefully, you know, I'm just.

[00:39:26] Everything stays online.

[00:39:29] But.

[00:39:29] So, let's go ahead.

[00:39:30] And that kind of kicks off the changing earth news right there.

[00:39:41] Dream.

[00:39:42] Survive.

[00:39:44] Thrive.

[00:39:46] This is changing earth news.

[00:39:50] For the changing earth news.

[00:39:58] We've had a lot of huge plasma filaments on our sun.

[00:40:02] Always a little spooky because those can rip off just like, you know, X-class flare.

[00:40:09] And do some major damage to our planet.

[00:40:12] So, we've been watching that.

[00:40:14] We've had some coronal holes up taking earthquake activity.

[00:40:17] Although it seems to have chilled out a little bit because right now it's all basically those plasma filaments.

[00:40:23] Some big sunspots turning in to view.

[00:40:28] Ben over at Suspicious Observers had an interesting paper today on like how severe the CME would have to be to produce aurora at the equators.

[00:40:39] Which the last solar event that we had produced aurora down in the Caribbean.

[00:40:48] So, that is insane first of all.

[00:40:51] And it should never have happened without a weakened planetary shield.

[00:40:57] Because that was.

[00:40:58] It should have to be like a Carrington event.

[00:41:00] Something like that.

[00:41:10] That's a little scary.

[00:41:11] So, alrighty.

[00:41:16] Today is 11-17 on the 11th of November.

[00:41:21] There was 378 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger.

[00:41:25] Biggest of which was a 6.8 in Cuba.

[00:41:28] The electrical grid down there took a hard hit.

[00:41:32] But, 2 quakes, big quakes happened within 60 minutes.

[00:41:37] So, that was a pretty big event.

[00:41:39] Cuba is the site of the.

[00:41:41] Or Chile, sorry.

[00:41:43] Is the site of the other major earthquake that's happened on our planet.

[00:41:49] One of the biggest we ever recorded.

[00:41:51] So, for it to happen in Cuba is actually a little bit odd.

[00:41:55] They don't.

[00:41:56] It's not a normal area for us to see those big types of quakes.

[00:42:00] And with the amount of volcanic activity that we've been seeing around the world.

[00:42:04] And it leaving the United States out of the picture.

[00:42:07] It makes me wonder if it's moving up further.

[00:42:11] So, again.

[00:42:11] I wouldn't take my eyes off volcanoes if I was up on the Pacific Northwest in the United States right about now.

[00:42:19] Just because I'm not sold.

[00:42:22] I don't understand why.

[00:42:23] It's the one area in the world.

[00:42:26] Or on the Pacific, you know, ring of fire.

[00:42:30] That's not erupting.

[00:42:32] It just doesn't make sense.

[00:42:34] So, we'll have to just keep eyes on that.

[00:42:36] South Africa was hit with some severe storms.

[00:42:40] And hail.

[00:42:41] Damaging vehicles.

[00:42:42] Lots of property damage.

[00:42:44] Saudi Arabia was blanketed out in their desert.

[00:42:47] With so much hail, it looked like it snowed.

[00:42:50] So, you're literally watching the camels walk around in what looks like snow.

[00:42:54] But it was actually hail.

[00:42:56] And that was out towards the northern end of Saudi Arabia.

[00:43:02] Their area around Mecca there on the Red Sea, I believe it is.

[00:43:07] They've been getting tons of floods.

[00:43:08] So, this is on the other side of the mountains from there.

[00:43:12] November 12, 2024, there was 333 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger.

[00:43:17] Biggest of which was a 5.5 north of Ascension Island.

[00:43:21] So, where is Ascension Island?

[00:43:24] On the west side of Africa, northwest side of Africa.

[00:43:28] It's, you know, how it's kind of circular on the edge.

[00:43:31] It's right below there.

[00:43:32] So, big earthquake happening there.

[00:43:35] 4.1 in, yeah, I had no idea where Ascension Island was.

[00:43:40] So, I was like, where is that place?

[00:43:43] A 4.1 earthquake in Muswell Brook, Australia.

[00:43:48] Oregon Coast had a possible tornado touchdown.

[00:43:52] They had lots of wind, big wind events coming through.

[00:43:56] And also, Fergus, Ontario, they confirmed a tornado touchdown.

[00:44:02] 85 mile an hour winds.

[00:44:03] It's an awful odd time of the year to have those tornadoes touching down.

[00:44:08] So, that's what's kind of interesting.

[00:44:10] Massive dust storm, same time, came through central California with that high wind event.

[00:44:16] So, it was just the jet stream just pushing air off of the Pacific inwards.

[00:44:22] And in Fuego, Guatemala, there was an explosive volcanic eruption there at Fuego.

[00:44:29] November 13th, 2024.

[00:44:31] November 13th, 2024.

[00:44:31] There was 326 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger.

[00:44:36] Biggest of which was a 5.3 earthquake that jolted Pakistan and Islamabad.

[00:44:41] Queensland, Australia was hit by hail, thunder, and wind.

[00:44:46] Hundreds of flights were canceled in Australia due to the volcanic eruption in Bali.

[00:44:51] And Lua Tobe erupted again in Indonesia, forcing thousands of evacuations.

[00:45:00] So, that was the volcano that was on the major eruption screen, which was another thing I'd never seen before.

[00:45:07] It's not up there this week, but it is still making noise.

[00:45:12] November 14th, 2024.

[00:45:14] There was 298 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger.

[00:45:18] Biggest of which was a 5.2 in the Bering Sea.

[00:45:21] Malaga and Marbella in Spain were absolutely swamped by a storm.

[00:45:27] Tornadoes off of Costa del Sol accompanied by giant hail over there.

[00:45:32] So, it's just not relenting up on Spain as far as precipitation coming down.

[00:45:38] There was an explosive mud volcano that erupted in Colombia.

[00:45:43] It created a 25,000 plus foot fireball that accompanied it.

[00:45:51] Yeah, there's one that happens over in Taiwan as well that happens pretty regularly.

[00:45:57] But the pictures of what happened over in Colombia are pretty incredible.

[00:46:01] You should check it out.

[00:46:02] And for some reason, when these mud volcanoes erupt, they always bring a lot of methane out of the ground.

[00:46:08] And so, usually fire accompanies them.

[00:46:12] Um, massive wildfires were still straining local fire departments in Massachusetts.

[00:46:18] So, big ones, you know, I'm, I lived a long time in California.

[00:46:23] So, a big wildfire in California is quite a different thing from a big fire on the East Coast.

[00:46:30] So, they're still burning, um, throughout the week, last week.

[00:46:35] But they're getting them under really good control.

[00:46:37] When I was looking at the wildfire numbers today, I was really, really pleased with what I saw.

[00:46:42] November 15th, 2024, there was 358 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger.

[00:46:48] Biggest of which was, um, a 6.6 in Papua New Guinea, right off the coast there.

[00:46:54] The Canary Islands in, um, by Spain also saw a large earthquake swarm.

[00:47:00] They have a lot of people that live on those islands.

[00:47:04] So, you know, just eyes on that always.

[00:47:08] Anytime you live on an island, it's, uh, I would not live on an island.

[00:47:13] We'll just say that.

[00:47:14] Fire crews continue to battle wildfires across New Jersey and New York.

[00:47:19] We had just talked about that.

[00:47:20] It was about 5,000 acres on November 15th.

[00:47:24] November 16th, 363 earthquakes that are 2.0 or bigger.

[00:47:29] Biggest of which was a 5.4 in the Coral Sea.

[00:47:31] I said there wasn't a lot of earthquake activity, uh, last week.

[00:47:35] When I see them over, like, 400, 2.0 or bigger a day, I would consider that, like, some good

[00:47:43] earthquake activity happening.

[00:47:44] We've been riding mostly in, you know, the mid-300s.

[00:47:48] I think I even saw a 200 number this week.

[00:47:50] So, you know, it's not anything extreme.

[00:47:53] 3.4 in Fontana, California.

[00:47:57] Uh, there was flooding in Honduras due to tropical storm Sarah.

[00:48:02] Yeah, they named it after me.

[00:48:05] At least they spelled it right.

[00:48:07] I'm just saying, like, you know, if you're going to have a hurricane named after you,

[00:48:12] then at least they spelled it right.

[00:48:13] But it is bringing lots of rain to Honduras, to the, um, Caribbean islands right now.

[00:48:22] So, and that's one that they still have eyes on because I think it might turn around and

[00:48:26] come up potentially towards Louisiana.

[00:48:29] So we're going to just keep our eye on that.

[00:48:31] Maybe to Florida, that kind of thing.

[00:48:33] Florida definitely doesn't need any more storms coming through, but that's kind of what they

[00:48:37] predicted.

[00:48:38] Have you noticed that the seasons are kind of slipping a little bit later?

[00:48:41] You know, like coming a little bit later, usually peak, uh, you know, hurricane season is a

[00:48:50] little bit sooner and we've been getting them a little bit longer.

[00:48:53] I don't know.

[00:48:54] It's just something I've been noticing.

[00:48:56] I could be totally wrong, but it just seems that way to me.

[00:49:02] My neighbor has watermelon.

[00:49:04] What's that?

[00:49:05] My neighbor has watermelon.

[00:49:07] Right now.

[00:49:09] Right now.

[00:49:10] Yeah.

[00:49:12] I mean, it's like way late.

[00:49:13] It's way late.

[00:49:14] I told, I told her, can I have Christmas watermelons?

[00:49:17] That's what I'm saying.

[00:49:18] Like, you need to write a children's book about the Christmas watermelon.

[00:49:23] I mean, we had more storms like into June.

[00:49:26] It didn't seem like, you know, summer really started till like September, October.

[00:49:33] Usually when we're getting ready to go to prepper camp or like sweatshirts on and stuff.

[00:49:36] But the last couple of years, it's just been hot right up to it.

[00:49:41] And I know it's Texas and everything.

[00:49:43] Oh, you live in Texas.

[00:49:44] And I haven't lived here for decades to be able to track weather.

[00:49:48] So that's why I have to ask, you know, does anybody else notice that happening?

[00:49:52] Or is it just because I'm in a different region and I'm not used to weather down here?

[00:49:58] But also, winter seems to be further pushed as well.

[00:50:02] Like there's only a couple winter months in Texas where it's like cold, cold.

[00:50:08] Right?

[00:50:08] And it seems to be getting pushed into like February, March.

[00:50:11] My tree comes into bloom and then we get that ice storm.

[00:50:14] It's like, what?

[00:50:15] But this just all seems weird.

[00:50:17] I don't know.

[00:50:19] I could be totally wrong though.

[00:50:22] Thousands of vehicles destroyed in Valencia, Italy.

[00:50:25] They were not immune from the rain.

[00:50:27] They got hit as well.

[00:50:28] Big time flooding just turns those roads into streams.

[00:50:32] And then boom, all the vehicles pile up.

[00:50:37] Choctaw, Oklahoma hit with an EF3 tornado.

[00:50:42] And there was a really heartbreaking story about a brand new newlywed couple in their home got completely wiped out.

[00:50:48] So more of that is expected to be coming through.

[00:50:52] So everybody stay ready, stay prepped up there.

[00:50:56] Oh, Garden Girl says my tomato plant and peppers are going crazy.

[00:51:00] Like, yeah, that's insane.

[00:51:02] I should have planted more at the end of the season, but I figured I was too late.

[00:51:05] And I would have done just fine.

[00:51:06] I know.

[00:51:07] It just pisses me off.

[00:51:10] Trying to time this stuff these days.

[00:51:13] November 17, 2024, 323 earthquakes are 2.0 or bigger.

[00:51:19] Biggest of which was a 6.1 in the Philippine Sea near Japan.

[00:51:24] Sarah's hitting Central America along with Belize.

[00:51:29] Like I said, I was eyes on to see if that is going to turn up towards the United States.

[00:51:34] Flash flooding hit Philippines.

[00:51:37] They got hit with the fifth typhoon they've been hit with this month.

[00:51:44] That's like one a week and sometimes two in a week.

[00:51:47] That is just insanity.

[00:51:49] I feel so bad for those people.

[00:51:51] You can just watch them lined up out in the Pacific.

[00:51:53] Just wham, wham, wham coming through.

[00:51:55] And it's been like all summer they've been getting hit.

[00:51:58] So prayers for everybody over there.

[00:52:01] Again, living on an island.

[00:52:04] Jennings Creek, New York.

[00:52:06] Over 100 families had to be evacuated from there due to wildfires.

[00:52:13] Northeastern United States.

[00:52:15] The drought conditions are continuing, keeping the wildfire risk high.

[00:52:20] I even saw stuff about water restrictions.

[00:52:23] Like you guys are crazy.

[00:52:26] But they should be getting some rain here coming in pretty quick.

[00:52:30] So I don't know.

[00:52:31] James isn't on in the chat tonight to say, you know, tell us how the, that part is doing with precipitation up there.

[00:52:38] But, you know, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, even up to Maine they were showing like some of the drought conditions.

[00:52:48] I'm like, I thought they were just getting hammered by rain like a couple months ago.

[00:52:53] So I don't know how lengthy those drought conditions could have been.

[00:52:58] As far as volcanoes, guys, we are not slowing down on the volcano numbers.

[00:53:05] I'm telling you, this is nutso, nutso, nutso.

[00:53:09] Something is definitely going on with our planet.

[00:53:12] That's why I say we have to keep an eye on these volcanoes.

[00:53:15] Don't worry about global warming if this continues because, and more storms and whatnot.

[00:53:21] Because if that puts all the water vapor up into the atmosphere, we're going to see more rain coming down.

[00:53:28] We have 36 volcanoes erupting.

[00:53:31] So we don't have the one counted as the major eruption this week.

[00:53:35] But still, 36 volcanoes actively erupting on our planet.

[00:53:40] It was like unheard of just a couple years ago.

[00:53:43] I know I say it every time.

[00:53:44] Not even a couple years ago.

[00:53:45] A few months ago.

[00:53:48] 36 erupting.

[00:53:50] 34 showing minor activity.

[00:53:52] So they're actually ramping up.

[00:53:55] Not cooling down.

[00:53:56] They're ramping up.

[00:53:57] We added one more to that list.

[00:54:01] 25 still showing unrest.

[00:54:02] That's the same as it was before.

[00:54:05] And these are the ones that are monitored and being reported, right?

[00:54:11] 95 volcanoes making noise on our planet at this time.

[00:54:15] Which is insane.

[00:54:18] Most of them are going to be Indonesia.

[00:54:21] And then the Kural Islands to the Philippines.

[00:54:25] On that section of the Ring of Fire.

[00:54:27] A lot of activity.

[00:54:29] So I don't know.

[00:54:32] Honestly, I don't know why we're not seeing the type of activity.

[00:54:36] They see it in Central America.

[00:54:39] Why is it not coming up into North America?

[00:54:41] I do not know.

[00:54:42] So we should really keep our eyes on it.

[00:54:45] As far as wildfires in the United States, we're at a preparedness level of one.

[00:54:50] There are two new fires.

[00:54:53] Five active fires.

[00:54:54] For a total of 238,989 acres.

[00:55:01] Five of those fires are contained.

[00:55:03] So on the website that I go to, they only report active fires.

[00:55:06] So a lot of that acreage that's on fire is in minor fires.

[00:55:12] Number one state on fire is still California.

[00:55:15] They only have one fire though.

[00:55:17] But it is 19,904 acres.

[00:55:20] So you can see why when they're reporting these fires in New Jersey and they're like,

[00:55:25] oh, it's 1,000 acres.

[00:55:26] I'm like, well, whoopie doo.

[00:55:28] You know?

[00:55:28] Because I've seen a million acre fire in California before.

[00:55:33] So I know that.

[00:55:35] Massachusetts and those states don't have that kind of land mass.

[00:55:38] But still, it's hard to put it in perspective that way.

[00:55:45] Massachusetts is number two on the list.

[00:55:47] They have two fires.

[00:55:48] One new fire for a total of 555 acres.

[00:55:51] So you can see they've gotten a lot of that under control.

[00:55:54] Number three on the list is West Virginia.

[00:55:56] They have one fire, a total of 210 acres.

[00:56:00] And number four is actually North Carolina with one fire, 175 acres on fire.

[00:56:08] So there's our numbers.

[00:56:10] I bet you didn't even know you had a fire going.

[00:56:19] Or he's out of here.

[00:56:20] He's like, I'm gone.

[00:56:24] There.

[00:56:26] I got you now.

[00:56:27] That was weird.

[00:56:28] See?

[00:56:29] I told you the tech.

[00:56:30] Hopefully everything's still broadcasting properly because we are having like a big storm out there.

[00:56:35] Yeah.

[00:56:37] Yeah.

[00:56:38] It's headed your way, Pappy.

[00:56:43] From what I saw of the maps, looks like it's going to head that direction.

[00:56:48] It's going to be a squall line that heads east.

[00:56:51] So the storm.

[00:56:56] North of us is getting hit much harder than we are.

[00:57:00] We're always like the bottom tail of the storms, which is fine because we get plenty of storm as it is.

[00:57:08] But, yeah, I feel for the people up north and then it heads that way.

[00:57:12] And I'm always looking at Louisiana because they seem to just get hit so hard.

[00:57:16] And I'm like, oh, because Phil's over there, too.

[00:57:18] I'm like, well, it's not a good day for Phil, but we missed it.

[00:57:22] So.

[00:57:24] All righty, guys.

[00:57:26] Well, hopefully you enjoyed the show tonight.

[00:57:28] We wanted to do a little bit of a catch up with what's been going on with Chin and after Helene because I live right there and all that excitement.

[00:57:37] Glad I could bring excitement into your life.

[00:57:39] Yeah.

[00:57:40] With elections right on top of it.

[00:57:42] Like it got thrown right in there.

[00:57:44] And oh, my gosh.

[00:57:45] Just so crazy.

[00:57:48] We did it, though.

[00:57:49] Our county came out and voted.

[00:57:51] Yeah.

[00:57:52] I was impressed.

[00:57:53] Yeah.

[00:57:54] Like walking out of the woods to go vote, which is great, you know?

[00:57:59] Yeah.

[00:58:00] So I couldn't ask for what you saw on the map, the voting map.

[00:58:05] It was just.

[00:58:06] Yeah.

[00:58:07] People are just fed up.

[00:58:08] And the silent majority certainly spoke up on voting day.

[00:58:14] What's funny, too, when it's when you overlaid the map with like where they allow illegals to vote.

[00:58:19] Those are like all the blue areas.

[00:58:21] There's a little blue there, huh?

[00:58:23] Yeah.

[00:58:24] Which is just crazy.

[00:58:25] So.

[00:58:28] The other one that was really interesting is it's like 15 cities basically trying to tell the rest of the United States what they should do.

[00:58:36] Yeah.

[00:58:36] So that's why we're a republic, not a democracy.

[00:58:39] Right.

[00:58:40] Well, and we won the popular vote this time, too.

[00:58:42] Yeah.

[00:58:43] Well, I'm all for like just make them city states, you know?

[00:58:46] I'll say like I just say jokingly, wall it up.

[00:58:49] But, you know, all all funniness aside, like be a city state because what happens in those areas is a lot different than what happens outside of those areas.

[00:58:59] And you guys need stuff to take care of like what's going on in your communities.

[00:59:02] And those requirements are different than what's going on in the communities elsewhere in the rural areas and that kind of thing.

[00:59:10] So I think some eventually there's going to have to be some kind of reckoning between like just the massive numbers in the city compared to.

[00:59:21] It should be that.

[00:59:21] Yeah.

[00:59:22] It should be like the states do their thing and the federal government needs to pull back to do its thing.

[00:59:27] The way it was all designed.

[00:59:29] Not.

[00:59:29] I mean.

[00:59:31] Yeah.

[00:59:31] There was a reason they designed it.

[00:59:33] Either end of the country can't be the ones that say y'all do have to do everything we want to do.

[00:59:37] Now, if you want to live like a Californian, go live like a Californian.

[00:59:42] Go to California.

[00:59:42] If you want to live like a Texan, live like a Texan.

[00:59:44] I mean.

[00:59:45] Amen.

[00:59:45] You want to live like an Appalachian, North Carolina guy?

[00:59:48] Well, then go there and live.

[00:59:49] But don't like think that the Appalachian lifestyle is going to work in Texas.

[00:59:55] You know, there's going to be things that will work.

[00:59:57] But then there's things that aren't going to work.

[00:59:59] And it's a homogenization too.

[01:00:01] When you do that, it's a homogenization of our world.

[01:00:04] You know, you go to other locations.

[01:00:08] You want to experience like the culture there and the food there and the experience.

[01:00:14] And when you're just like, nope, here's one size fits all.

[01:00:17] Everybody's doing the same thing.

[01:00:19] And like, for example, I went to Puerto Vallarta for my honeymoon.

[01:00:23] We get down there and it's all, you know, Domino's pizza and Hooters.

[01:00:28] And I was like, where's like the experience of being in Puerto Vallarta and not.

[01:00:36] Right.

[01:00:36] Yeah.

[01:00:38] So that was really, really disappointing.

[01:00:41] And it would be nice to allow, you know, the cultures to exist without worldwide branding, basically.

[01:00:55] Alrighty.

[01:00:56] Well, there we go.

[01:00:57] We'll be back next week.

[01:00:59] We are going to start pulling apart season three of the Changing Earth audio drama.

[01:01:06] Tons of survival nuggets just buried all over the place in there.

[01:01:11] I always wanted to do like, you know when they do the show of like how your show was made or whatever?

[01:01:17] Like they do those shows that are like have little notes about the production of it and everything.

[01:01:23] I always wanted to do one for the Changing Earth audio drama where it's like, oh, ho, bing, bing, survival lesson.

[01:01:32] So we'll pull some of that out, have some fun with it and go from there.

[01:01:39] Alrighty.

[01:01:39] Well, time for Chan to get back to work.

[01:01:41] Time for Sarah to get back to work.

[01:01:45] Alrighty.

[01:01:46] Until next time, remember, dream.

[01:01:51] Survive.

[01:01:52] Thrive.

[01:01:52] Thrive.
