Visit us in the interactive chat room at Prepper broadcasting dot com. Well, hello, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Is great to have you on another night of a family affair. I'm your host, Jordan, is so great to have you. Okay, So, as we are starting out, if you are over on block talk Radio, hop on over to Prepper Prepper Broadcasting dot com and join us here in live chat. I've got some great individuals r some regulars, and we would love to have you some great discussions. And I'm glad to see that the emergency blanket that I did at giveaway on a Scarf Blanket Splash emergency blanket actually was received by Flying Dutchman, one of our regular listeners here, and he loves it. So I'm always happy to see that. And don't worry, I will be doing more giveaways in the future. Just have to do it based on what I'm capable at the moment, which will get us. In tonight's topic, we are talking about buying on a budget. Now we all know, especially those who have children or periods is money is an issue for anybody. It is something we struggle with day to day, and it seems something we all have to deal with, whether we want to adult or not. All right, so all right, I am sorry. I apologize. I was looking at the chat. I am having difficulty multitask and it seems like all right, so it's on the budget. So we never want to be in a situation where we can't afford life necessities or be able to afford to be able to see at our family. And another thing, preps don't always come free. There are things that we can do to make it easier on us, but there are there are ways to be able to save money to be able to buy. So if there's some preps we can do lower, and there are other ones that we do need to save up for well. Either way, besides any extra that we want, we need to be able to make sure we can make ends meet. So a big thing is, first off, you need to know how much you spend, or roughly how much you spend. I think that is a big issue that people make. Actually, we're gonna go ahead and mention some of the misstakes that a lot of people make when they try to budget. You know, a lot of people will fail to keep track of how much money they spend. And if you're anything like me, well you know what. I can actually manage money. Is better than anybody in my household. My mother in law, though, is even better than I am, so I do refer to her for help, So don't be ashamed to ask for help. My husband actually is a good tip on this one. A debit card is too easy to use because it's just swipes, swipes, go. I am a fan of cash. I like cash because I can hold on to it twice as long as money on a card, because I know exactly how much I have in hand and how much I see now, I can keep track of a card with no problem, and I do. But I also keep a constant running calculator of any amount that I spend, and I check my account frequently. So uh as de man in our chat. But I can manage money. I managed to spend it really well. Yes, actually, highlander, I am not. I used to keep on you mentioned that I was a super cute on her. I used to put a lot of the policies around stores around here have changed so much that I'm not able to keep on like I used to. So if hey, if anybody out there is a keep on her, please send me an email at Family Underscore Affair at yahoo dot com. Please. I would love some tips. I'd love some advice because anything to save, especially for my household. We feed five to six people at a time. It just varies on the day, so I have to manage money a lot more tightly. So I would love love to hear any bits of advice that anyone may have as far as cup on and I am not against it, okay. So another piece of advice or a mistake that people make is they so back to number one, is they feel to keep track of how money is spent, or they forget the difference to number two is forgetting the difference between needs and wants. You need to be able to prioritize what you really need versus what you just want that you can live without. Many people take advantage of credit cards. That's actually a big no no. Many people take advantage to their student or school loans. That part can actually really hurt you living in the moment. Oh my goodness, believe or not? Yes, it's nice to spend through yourself, and I'm not saying you can't, but sometimes living in the moment can cost you more money than you really mean to. So okay. So one of our listeners in here was making a comment that his wife says, spend the dang money because he buys cheap and it breaks. So okay. So there is a situation where you don't want to buy cheap, and you want to buy something that's a good quality, but you want to make sure you're able to afford it. So don't buy on impulse because you just happen to have it for something less when really, like in our household, we try to we make a list for something big that we want, and we set a little bit aside out of each check or every other check, or however we're able to manage it five dollars a year or ten dollars there, so we can work our way up to what we want, or we work it out as Christmas gifts, like we'll put in abortion if you'll put in the remainder today. And that's how we're teaching our son to manage money. He actually has a drone he wants. He saved up a quarter of it so far. We mentioned if he could meet us a quarter to halfway, we would make up the difference because the drone he's looking at is a good couple hundred dollars. So we're trying to teach him to understand the value of saving money and being able to put money up for things that he actually wants, and not buying on an impulse, because that's an issue a lot of individuals have today, is buying on an impulse. And don't be surprised that you are going to be easily tempted. That's why it's what candy and odds and ends things right there at the checkout. I mean, it is just to draw your attention because guess what impulse buying makes up such higher percentage of what people actually spend that these companies and if these stores make most of their money. So tip number one, make a list. Okay, make a list, whether it's going to be what you pay, what's your bills? List can help you, all right, So tea man right here is I guess the common example of a impul spot I cannot pass up a receis peanut butter cup. It is hard, it really is, but you have to if you have to really pinch your pennies like we do, you have to watch how you're spending. Now. I'm not saying you can't get you one, but believe it or not, sometimes it's cheaper to get the bigger pack than it is to get just one. Okay, so look at how your money, how you get your money during the month. In my household, i'm paid bi weekly and my husband's weekly, so it helps us out on being able to stretch things just a little bit more. But if you're bi weekly, base it on your bi weekly payment. It's really something you need to focus on. Do not, please, do not look at the beginning of the months and write out how much money you are going to bring home and how much your total bills are. I'm not saying it doesn't work, but I've seen it before, especially when my husband and I have our own ways of doing it and I actually balanced everything. Now he would make the mistake of right now the entire income and the entire bills, which is fine, But the problem is is you cannot spend money you do not have. So until you get that second or third check, that money is not there. So you have to base it on what you have, Big number one, do not or if you can help it, try to never go into the next month owe a bill. If you can get everything paid off, now you're going to have less to have to worry about. It's nice to go into the next month absolutely clean in the sense you know, not owing anything. Do not be afraid to sit down and write everything out. Yes, it's going to be stressful. Yes you're going to see some numbers don't like. But I promise you there's always a way to work it and manage it out. So the big number one that a lot of people fail to really look at is all right. So for us, I make sure all of our major bills are paid. Now, this may not work for y'all, but this is what works for us. Make sure your major bills are paid. We have two big bills, so if we can split it up where it's the two big bills that we have to pay each month are on the same day that my husband and I are both paid, it makes it so much easier to be able to manage the rest. Now, those of you who are working on a single income, I've been there. You can make it work, and God bless you. I promise you even though you are busting your butt, You've got it going on. Next thing is is look count for your gas. Make sure you have money for your gas. I know I can go twenty to thirty dollars a week on gas depending on where I fill up. I do take advantage of the reward systems with the VP down here, every time you fill up these safe points. So yes, there's going to be a few times you're paying full price, but if you save up enough, I've gotten fifty nine cents off a gallon. That can make a huge difference on a day that you don't have very much to get you. By Highlander, I'm not sure what that is. Could you elaborate a little bit more before I actually read that? So Highlander made a comment in here. I'm waiting to see what he has to say it and then we'll see what that is. Okay. So he also mentions the Kroger card, which I do have that, and I have the Shell card. I do take advantage of anywhere that I can fuel that's closest to me, that's actually going to offer the most. He says. When I shop I get gas miles, I can get a dollar off and that's true. And we are going to get into the grocery shopping because that is a big factor. But before that, you need to when I said the list, you've got to look at your monthly. You've got to look at your weekly and and figure it out. Figure out how much you need for your groceries, figure out how much you need for Yeah, no, it's just mommy. Okay. So all right, someone says she got eighty five cents off a gallon last week. Needless to say, we feel the tank. You know what, that is wonderful. Take advantage of some of those parts, believer or not. Those points systems can really save you in a bind. I mean they really get you a lot further than what you would have been before. And there if you don't have to pay full price, then there is no point in it. Michael Klein and those one see you. That's where being cheap won't necessarily hurt you if you can save a few bucks, as long as it's not cheap quality. Okay, sorry, ladies and gentlemen. I had to get a drink. It is well warn all right. So Tieman says, I use a bit of dumpsters dive and and still like to go to the dump great finds on occasion, and you're right, you can actually find some great stuff. I've seen roadside shopping, as we'd like to say it, when you see one or two things set out on the curb side that actually have some great use or great potential that you could fix up if you have the time, if you have the ability. I all mean to do it. There is no shame. I am a saying of yourselves. I am. We like goodwill, depending on which we have two in our two close to us. One is organized, the other is not. The unorganized one is a lot cheaper. It just takes more time. So it just depends if we need clothes and stuff. I do like some of the thrift shops. Some of the antique stores sometimes have some good things marked down. I okay. So so another one on here says, I go around the apartments when students leave up nineteen TV's, computers, chairs, desks, bedrolls, and electronics. I hope that it is because they've actually left the apartment to not come exack. Oh okay, I'm not reading no one. Okay, So yeah, if you if you have on the other one, that stuff is outside. I was just making sure, but you know, don't be afraid of apps or calendars or programs to help you. I mean, everybody has their own that helps them. I am the world's best with a calendar and a ten and paper or a pencil on paper and a calculator. I like being able to write mine down. I like being able to see it. I like being able to know where it goes. Don't be afraid to account for any mishaps, because that is something you need to look at. So if you can, if you're able to set aside five ten dollars from each of your checks, I mean, that's a good way to set up. You're gonna laugh. But in the past I have. Actually, when my husband and I were recently married, I always took a little bit out of my check and I put it up Well, I didn't trust banks, and I still don't put everything in the bank, not because they're not they're not that they're awful, but it just is going to be a matter of convenience. Yes, that's flying Dutchman would say. A rainy day fund Well, just so happened the trans readia or maybe in the transmission, I don't know. We've had a few cars mess up on us. Something went out on one of our vehicles and we had to get it workedne at the time, you know, we really didn't need to be in a BUYE was freaking out. I said, don't worry, and he looked at me, he says, where is it? I And he knew exactly what it was, because I am the world's worst for hiding money in the house and he'll never know in it. I said, lift up the DVD player. There was about three hundred dollars, the same exact amount we need it to be able to fix the truck. So it took you know, depending on your job or what you're in, it may take a little more time. But don't don't worry about it. Now. The only reason it was under there is because he never checked under the DVD player. That's not my usual spot to hide stuff ever, But it just happened to be where I put it that day. But yeah, I mean I before that, actually after that, whenever I try to save money, I'd have an envelope and i'd put five ten dollars, maybe a couple ones, whatever you had. And right, so, Abigail Adams makes a good point. Before I go into the other one. Just don't leave it where toddler can get it. News story this week about a kid who's redded one thousand dollars. I saw that. I saw that the boy send it straight through the shredder, which I would not be leaving a shredder where a child could get to it. So, but that's neither here nor there. I'm not judging them on their parents, and toddlers are notorious for getting into things and for reaching things you didn't think it's possible, So it definitely, definitely yeah, don't keep it in hands reach, keep it where people won't think of. Do not put it in your freezer. Do not put it in places that if your house is broken into, that the burglars are gonna think to look. I mean that that is a big one. Do not put it where other people can find it. I'm not saying that your house is going to get broken into, but sometimes the people you think are closest there's sometimes the space. I hate to say that, but I've known people who thought someone was a trusted them to come in and clear them out of their extra money that they had hidden. So don't Not all people are bad, but it's better just to hide it anyways, just to be on the safe side. I'm sorry, off you hear me scratching or fiddling with my headphones. I actually had a just bite me, okay. But I would put the money in an envelope, whether it be just a couple of ones, whether it be a ten, whether it be a twenty, whatever it would be, and I'd put it in an envelope and have that envelope hidden and put it up. And then I'd have an envelope on the open for whatever our goal was, and then put that envelope back up where it needed to go. And then that way we could build up money for both an emergency, for what we wanted, or just to have extra, because you don't want to be caught without cash on you, whether now or if something should happen, and if grid down, cash is going to be the value of use, especially for the first few days, if not for the first yeah, probably week, maybe, just depending on where you're at all. Right, So, Tea, this is my memory is as long as yesterday. If I hide money, it will be a surprise much later. You know. I have done that once, and only once, and it was nice. It was nice to find ten bucks hidden somewhere I wasn't expected expecting keep your coins. That is another thing that drives me nuts. And yes I am that person. If I see change on the ground, I pick it up. I have a change star. We do turn it in after a while. There is no shame in keeping change by any means. If anything, I see money being thrown away just makes my blood. Oh, it makes me feel awful. Yes, as Hylanders said Uncle Eddie on lampoons, buries it in coffee canes in the backyard. Everybody has their own thing. And you know what, you don't have to say it. I don't need to know. If it works for you and you can remember or at least have an idea where it is, it will take you much further. I will say that I have, or we had, a lady of my life, very good woman, funny and fickle as all get out. She was notorious for a hiding money in the least expected places. You thought that old lamp was broken, and someone went to go clean out the house, and she threw a fit because the old broken lamp shades were gone in the lamp and they were sitting out on the curb. Thank goodness, the trash hand came and she went, and she was from the Great Depression, I mean, very much lived through it. And they brought in the lamp and underneath, even though it was broken, she took off the bottom and there was several dollars hidden in that lamp, along with twenties, just loose money, and in the blinds and the very bottom, the very old ones where you have that tube that went across. She took a dowel and she had a dow actually inserted in bothen and she took the down and pushed it all the way through and she had twenties rolled up all the way in it. So it just goes to show you. You know, this woman was notorious for hiding it, so she's kind of a goal for me. I think it potentially thrown away, but she'd put it in stuff that you would have never thought of, things that you didn't realize were the way they were. That lamp was broken, but she knew it was, so it was the perfect place for her to twist off the top of d after and then hide money in. So, I mean, it was wonderful Melinda lead here. So she hides her jewelry and her coach. First problem and she forgets where she hides it, and then when she wants it she has to search for a while. I have done that with one or two things. Okay, So here's a good, good piece of advice that I was actually about to get to, and good tips. Flying Dutchman sets himself he went to the store when Dame forgot his wallet, and even after that, and he ever since that he keeps a twenty on the buyer's or mirror. I actually try to keep a minimum of twenty dollars hidden somewhere in my vehicle. So goodness for bitch. Should I get caught in a situation where I've run out of gas or I forget my wallet, I have money on me no matter what, because we've all had those days where we have run out the house in such a hurry that we've forgotten something, if not everything, it seems like. And the last thing you want to do is be caught out of town with no money or no way to eat, or no no anything. I mean, it could really hurt you. So okay, So Highlanders says, he hides his in the back of his toilet. Right, were you the one who said you hit it in the lid? Oh? No, that was someone else. He says, water proof ziplops back in the back of the toilet tank. Bole bag. So make sure your money is waterproof. Oh my goodness. Actually I'm gonna get off subject for a second, but it is kind of there. I heard of a story of a gentleman who was much older, and he grew up in the Great Depression, and he had money. He never put any of his money in a bank, but he dug a hole in the backyard and he buried his cash right well. When he went to go back to pick it up, here's the problem. He buried his money in a paper bag, all of it. All of his money. Every time he buried it, he buried it in the paper bag. So you can guess what happened. The money and the bags all were expoth ailments and degrade it and destroyed. So if you're gonna bury your money, if you're gonna hide your money, you're gonna put your money anywhere, make sure it's safe from the elements. Make sure it's safe from being tore up or shredded or break down because of the elements. Just okay, so here we go. Here's another prime thing. Melinda Li says, when she leaves the house, she hides her laptop hard drive. It's actually really smart. So these are things you want to think about. And it's not just just for money, it's for everything. I lost my spot for a second. I'm sorry, y'all. So, so money is a big factor. If you can try to manage yourself to have just ten twenty bucks put up, that's great. But don't also don't leave yourself without anything, because we all know emergencies or last minute things come up, or you forgot something and you have to take care of it. You know, manage to what works reasonably for you, what works for my house, and the amounts may not be what works for your house or for the neighbor next door. Everybody has their own way. They need to do things, all right, so Highlanders says. I also keep a bunch of silver dollars and fifty cent pieces. I've always heard if you've had silver at least one silver dollar, you were never broke. I actually have h I actually have one silver dollar, I'm pretty certain. I'm not sure if I have two or not anymore. But yeah, silver pieces can really help you out in a bind in any situation, especially in the future. Great dawn situations. That's something people want to think of. I am going to I think I'm going to go ahead and let g man take us to a commercial break, and then when we get back we will actually talk about the grocery parts and the more of the bug out item parts. All right, Chieman, if you want, go ahead and take us to take. Us away the disaster strikes and your GPS is useless. Ancient navigation techniques will ensure your survival. If you're listening on blog talk radio, hop on over to Prepperbroadcasting dot com. Or if you hire having internet or connection issues, feel free to dial in at three four seven two zero two zero two two eight. If you would like to come up live on the air with me, or you have a question or a comment you'd like to make, go ahead and hit the number one. I'd love to have you. All Right, we are talking about buying on a budget. We have mentioned making a list, the importance of trying to keep cash on you even a little bit, trying to put up, and the fact that hiding your money, keeping a little bit of cash out and hiding it is not going to hurt you if anything. Again, I have no problem with banks, but in a grit down situation, electronic money is useless. This is just a bunch of zeros and ones in a system that may no longer work. Okay, So we are going to actually talk about the grocery part of it, and being able to buy preps, and being able to buy preps that are more affordable for someone like you and me, or especially individuals who have children, or you know what, just anybody? Oh sorry, you want to come to sit with me? All right? Did daddy say nol? You can have a chip in just a minute. Okay, you're lighting the mosquitos in the house, all right, Sorry about that. We have a fussy three year old who may or may not be joining me at the moment. Would you like to draw a picture from me? Yeah? No, no pictures? Okay, all right, sorry about that. So on the budget part, So if anybody else notices the cost, you have to wait just a moment, I know. Oh, so she's not all right, you know what. I am so sorry, y'all. I'm gonna take just a brief minute of air. I'm going to give her her snack because she is fighting sleep and just a second. I'm I'm so sorry. Okay, I am so sorry about that. I believe my husband may have fallen asleep on the coup So the little ones need a snack, all right, back to it. So, if anybody's noticed, the price of food itself has actually increased quite a bit if you shop at Walmart, Broker's, Pickley, Wiggly Knights, or Good Nights now with some of them, Uh, what is you know? There are price Chopper save a lot in of all sorts of stores that anybody's shops at. Walmart's a big one, a lot of people go to, and believe it or not, there's quite a few things you can buy there as well as like first aid preps that you can get cheaper than if you went to the dollar Tree. But I noticed, and I actually threw a little bit of a conniption fit because I manage which is still a high amount anywhere from sixty which it's tight, but I can make it work to one hundred and twenty dollars a week for up to six people, and that's including breakfast, lunch, and seven days worth of meals. So you can imagine my upset when I went into a store and I noticed that everything, literally everything's hiped up from ten to fifty cents. Now I dow a fit. As it was as soon as summer hits the price Nathan Hawthawks used to be cheaper than ballparks, and that's what the kids prefer. And it went up a good, good, almost dollar something. The kid's almond milks went up a dollar, a dollar and twenty cents, I believe, And it makes it, It makes it hard. So what I'm gonna mention for for anybody who really has to budget, there is no shame in half in the shop at two or three stores. I understand it's more convenient to go to one than the other, but if you can actually make a big save, there is nothing wrong with it. I actually shop in a town where we have a Kroger, Pickli Wiggly and Walmarts. Pretty convenient in an area. Yes, Highlander says he goes between Audie and Kroger's. There's actually several things I will not buy from Aldise because it's not near as cheap as they make it seem. I literally nickel and dime everything. I have a shopping cart calculators that I use. I can add my taxes at the end, so I can add it up and see what percentageship tax have. Actually, Picky Wiggly is great. I actually bought a twenty pounds bag of potatoes for seven dollars, and in my house, that goes a long way. When I'm buying a ten pound bag every week, it seems like I go through the large sixty count or six dozen, yeah, sixty count eggs pretty quickly within a week to a week and a half. With six people, we do a lot of home cooked meals, which that is going to save you. I understand a quick meal or a prefab meal is a matter of convenience, but when you look at it, it's not as far as a matter of costs. Now, I'm not down in you. If you're able to by all means go hoards. It's not reasonable for our household with the way that we eat. We have grown children, we have a big adults, you know, we all eat, and we eat a lot, so I've learned to double, if not triple, certain recipes. It extends the life of them. I will have leftovers now. We do not necessarily eat leftovers a second and night in a row, but we do. If we do not eat it the next night, we will put it up and freeze it, so then there is a future extra meal. No shame in that, no harm in that. Actually, if anybody listens to the Gun Metal Armor Show or follows them on Facebook, the Mistress of Metal had posted at a picture of Walmarts with the sails down, which it is. It is usually down around last It was last month for us, towards the beginning last month. I believe it's right now for Arizona. I'm not sure. It's just based on your region, so keep an eye out. But they will go through where they are changing out their inventory, and when they're changing out their inventory, they have to mark everything down to get anything that could be on the shelf, pass what they're allotted or allowed off as quickly as possible. So keep an eye on that, because there's no shame at looking at the sale rack, at the clearance rack by any means. I actually was able to stalk up. And we don't buy name brand except on a few things. If you don't have to have name brand, there's no point in it. We stopped up stocked up on a bunch of canned suits and vegetables for twenty five cents of can. You know it's with the way prices are. You save where you can't, stock up where you can. I was able to buy the big suits or the big cans of soups for we least seventy five cents versus a dollar eighteen before the price had gone up, so that that makes a huge difference the big cans of vegetables. In our house, we don't use one can of vegetables. We have to use suits to prefer to buy the big can. I was able to get several big cans for twenty five to fifty cents a can. So I mean, think about it if you're able to keep an eye out on your store and look at the cells, because that could make a huge difference. So I do a lot of price comparisons. Walmarn't has done away with price matching, so they do have a app called the Savings Savans Apped. I could pull it up in which you can act actually scan your receipts with them. If they find a lower price, you'll give you a certain penny or certain of whatever the difference was for the item, which fact can add up. It can help you in a bind. I've noticed lately, since they quit doing price matches, it really doesn't show as much as it used to. I don't know if that's because of how the prices have changed so much. All right, So someone in the chat says, I do keto. I only eat once or twice a day. I do not eat breadposts and milks, junk food, so I spend a lot less. So someone else says, I haven't been to Snara for a few years. I was out the other day running errands and I didn't have time to go home and cook before going to work, so I stopped at Snairees as a treat to myself. Mistake. I ordered a half a sandwich in chai latte and it was ten ninety eight. The sandwich was tiny and not good. I should have gone home and just made a hand sandwich. And that right there will show you if you notice, versus going out, how much you spend it really really makes. It can really impact you big time. Okay, So, like Gimian says, meat is a big one, I watch them buy big and freeze when on sale. We are big about that too, Gumus. I will admit I will not buy my chicken from Picky Wiggling, not because it's not good. But you've got to pay attention to how some of these places or butcher shops cut their meat. All they literally do is take one breast and butterfly and put two breasts in there so you look like you have four. So pay attention to how much you're getting per actual dollar. If it's worth it, than fine. But for my household, I need to be able to get as much as I can for as little bit as possible with my With my household five dollars little cesars will feed me for two days eks on her own. Michael Krin, that's great, but you need actual food. In our house. We like full of meals. We have a meat, we have a vegetable, but sometimes two, it just all depends. Tonight we had grilled chicken and a salad and a baked potato. So we want to know we're a fool. And that's another thing with the buy in with the plane and map out your meals for the week. I know it sounds like such a mess, and oh, we don't have the time, but I promise you, if you map out the meals for the entire week before you go shopping, then you know exactly what it is you have to buy. Know exactly what your snacks are, or what you have in the house for the children if they're little, what they like. You do not have to buy an a brand. I buy GB or generic Apple sauce, no sugar added, sugar free. Kids love it if you are able to. One week we are tighter than the next week. So one week I have to really management on the bare minimum. On the next week I'm able to buy and stock up on a few extras. So then the following week, when it's tight, I don't have to worry about it. And so this is where my advice is going to come to you. I micromanaged. I could tell you before the price is changed what everything costs to the exact sense. But that's because of how I shop, and I am very strict on my shop, and I keep a list. I stick to the list and try not to change from it unless I absolutely have to. So for those who don't like to now, I am sorry, but look at being able to stock and store extra little kings of shelf safe food. I promise you It may not seem like much now, but it does add up that I've actually had to go to a second counter space and it will go a long way. And it's exactly right tuna. Believe it or not, you're better off buying the small individual cans right now. It is way too high at Progers for us. Pickley Wiggly still higher, So Walmart's my best bet. So I look at the prices of something I know I'm going to buy every time, and I compare them, and if it's worth my buy somewhere else, then that's where I'm gonna go. But try to keep so. Say you have six items you have to get from another store, Well make sure on that list that's what you get at the other store. Still budget and manage everything as well as you can, but cans of tuna can go a long way. I will buy several small cans of tuna, so I believe it is an eight pack they have at Walmart pre pack, and then they have the large cans. Believe it or not, you're gonna save. We had it before with the big can you actually save in a few cents more if you buy just multiples and smaller cans. It doesn't add up on the big cans. You're actually saving almost a dollar and something more. Yes, it may not seem like much now, but I promise you, on someone who especially like for us, we have to manage every single dollar. Buy few extra cans of tuna, buy few extra cans of vegetable soup, by few cans beans or whatever you can fit into the house in our house, believe it or not, pasa or rice and beans. I will pick up a bag, one two pound bag, depending, I will divide it up, I will vacuum feel it. That will go a long way. And yes, it adds up quick. But in a tight situation, or if it say you're hard on money one week, guess what you bought how much sliced smoked smoked ham or cured ham, and you had it put up? And you have pento beans. You've got a whole meal, pinto beans and corn, pento beans and ham. You got corn meal in the cabinet, and then egg. Guess what you've got corn bread. So these things even though you're looking for future press. You've also looked at future meals because in a tight situation, you still want to be able to feature some family something and you want to be able to feed them something that's going to keep them full and keep them feeling satisfied and happy, and warm bellies make happy children. Warm and full bellies make happy husbands. I promise you my husband is very happy with the food we cook, and a home milk can go a long way, and especially in a grit down situation or in a situation you don't want to be in, a home cooked milk can really be a difference between go and comfort and still being scared. Melinda Lisas, I try not to eat that much. It makes it too scary to think who is cooking my food? And I like my food better. If that is exactly true. If y'all listen to my last week's show with rats and roaches and mice, the fact that there's so many of them actually in the food industry, it really creeps you out. And prime example I think I mentioned it last show is I actually was drinking out of a cup my work bought us food that week, and I drank some sweet tea and I went and I got seconds, and I was down towards the end of my cup, and I wanted to I wanted to throw it away, and I didn't want to leave weapons. Okay to space if you was sharing some chips and then I'll make you somese, okay, all right. So I was getting down towards the end of my cup, and when I look in there there was a float in silverfish and if anyone seemed silverfish. They like to hang around sinks or any or backrooms, and they eat paper products or it will stay around cloth and stuff that they can break down, like paper cloth, toilet paper cups, any of those paper cups. And I was absolutely disgusted, and I'm like, I don't like eating out for that or even because you never know what you're gonna find in your food exactly. It was gross. I felt sick to my son, They're gonna of course, everybody else could laugh, but I'm sitting there thinking they were drinking out the same type of cups I was. I just got lucky and got found mine and mine. There's no telling if they actually drank theirs. Oh sorry, okay, but yes, a home cooked milk can have a lot of benefits. Look where it's gonna be best for you to buy your meat. Get as much as you can for a good amounts. You know, listen to some of the butcher Some of the butchers, it's like it. Progers will actually give you some very honest answers. Take advantage of coupons. There's a lot of electronic coupons you can add to your card with Krogers. You know, Piggly Wiggly has some specials that they go on. Keep an eye out on these ads. Yes, it seems like extra work, but I promise you a little bit of extra work can actually save you a lot in the long run. So how does this go towards preps? So any extra money you save towards preps or saved period, you can use towards preps. I encounter. Actually preping for me is part of my everyday life. So Michael Klein yesterday was speaking on going to the bathroom and we mentioned toilet paper and that is a big one. So if anybody's noticed, the price of just a piece of paper to wipe your butt with has gotten ridiculous. It is super super high. And I normally buy angel socks, but I live in a town where we have a Dollar General or frets Threads is not within reason on certain price. I'm not saying they're not a good chain, but right as Hylander said, money down the drain. Literally, I actually went to our Dollar General and I am one of those I do count what the rows are, so if it's a double row, how many we're getting, Believe it or not. The Dollar General brand had a thirty two double row, which was equivalent to sixty four for ten dollars, and that was actually a lot cheaper than trying to buy a twenty four row pag for ten dollars. So you know, when I can, especially in the household we have, if we have a little extra, guess what I'm buying an extra pick? Yes, Michael glowing personal washcloth that works too, But as Summit told, paper is our preferred use. My husband actually is a fan of paper towels, which drives me absolutely nuts. I am a fan of cloth napkins or in a type buyd washcloth as napkins. I grew up wanting linen. He grew up li like in paper towels. So at the moment we do still get paper towels, but there is no point in buying name brand when you're gonna wipe your face or wipe up a spell and throw it right away. There is just no Yes, Melinda Lee, I look at how many feet is in the package exactly, and that is the deal. Is how much you're gonna actually spend for something you're just gonna use and throw away. Complain when you get something beat or poor quality, get online complaining the manufacturer, they will off to send you qupons this apology. That is true. Usually though, if I call a manufacturers because I've found something in it that I do not want, so then when they send me cupons for their same products, I am very leary. But yeah, sometimes they will send you cup on because they don't want to lose a cell. They don't want to lose potential money. Uh, because someone like you or me could with one bad visit could be pretty I don't necessarily want to use the words, but could be could really hurt them. But yeah, So toilet paper, don't hesitate to stack up on tolepaper, as Michael Klein say. Don't hesitate to have plenty of wash cloths because in any situation you're gonna need bees for whatever use you use them for, So that's a big one. I actually every now and then, you know, I stock up bandana, I buy a few extra packs of band aids. I buy some triple and a bodic cream. You can get those out wal work for eighty eight cents, and they have the little cheapy. They have a little bin usually on the end or in the first aid where you can get certain things for eighty eight cents versus paying a dollar or more for them. Now, I'm not saying Dollar Tree is bad because I go there for toothpaste, but because it's so much cheaper to buy everybody's toothpaste at dollar dollar Tree, and you can stock up on fental hygiene material a lot cheaper than you can anywhere else. So look at what's going to be more cost effective. Highlanders actually mentioned the other day big lots. If you're a fan of big lots, or you have one near you, just look what's around you price shop first. So if that means taken an afternoon and just walking around and looking at prices, you know what, so be it. Do it. A lot of people will actually shop in one place because it's a matter of convenience versus a matter of actually saving money. That sometimes is the biggest no no when you find out later that the store, maybe not even two minutes down the street, was selling something for half that price. Especially when it comes to groceries, you want to be able to get as much as possible on as little as possible, and that is a big deal. Threaten people with social media go to store, get no my vocal line. I don't know how much that works. Usually it makes a person look worse than the actual apology, I mean actual complainings. Ah gimen, you could go on the radio and destroy it. I'm not going to try to destroy anyone. I do not agree with all their prices, but that is because I am a working mother of three. My husband and I are both working and it is difficult as it is to make in meat. So trying to buy food that has gone up because employers obviously are not going to go up on our pay wages, it does make it harder. So it's just working within your means possible. Go to a farmer's auctions and buy produce and bulk to preserve melndaly. That is great. So that is another reason we garden. We garden to say it's both season right now. It's primitive. I have not gone out. I probably won't get to at the moment. I'll have to probably wait till rifle because somersol too hot. You want your meat to be able to drain. But you know, where we kill army, we will put up, we will have it processed. I am actually going to be canning some soups this fall. I will be canning chicken. I mean, if you're able to can and put up as much food as you are as possible. Our tomatoes we put up. It's great for putting in soups, stews, lasagna, spaghetti, anything you can think of, much cheaper if you don't get a good harvest from your garden. That is absolutely true. If it hadn't been for my mother in law's garden, which we split between both houses. We actually share everything. We probably would not have had squashed this year because our squash didn't take but hers did. Tomatoes ours didn't do, but hers did. You know, our bell peppers took off like crazy, So we were able to share between two households. If you're able to do that, share barter trade, you know, it's great if you're able to or if you want something that you don't have in your garden, like sweet corn. Yes, sweet corn is another great one that we love to love to shuck, get off the water from it and make skillet corn and put those up if you're able to, can can learn, waive or not. Cannon can save you so much money right there. Yes, you do are going to initially spend quite a bit your first year. After that, it's going to be maintenance cost of extra lids, extra covers, but it really is worth it in the long run. That's where making an investment that's going to pay for itself in the future is worth it. Look at what the cost is, what the benefit is, and what the losses. If you have to worry about whether or not something's going to work for you, then sit down and write it out or work it out. Because for us, cannon was worth the extra costs. We really have saved us within the last year, last three years starting it is really saved us a lot of money. I find that I'm not spending it as much there. When we kill deer or have any extra meat that I've helped slow we have, I don't have to buy that type of meat if I have deer in the breezer. I will not buy beef, absolutely will not buy beef. I do not like store beefs. But it's you know, do what's good for you. It all supports supports your local farmer by buying at farmer's options. You're absolutely right, support the small businessman, support your locals because they're trying just like you are. And believe it or not, it's going to go a longer way knowing that you helped, yeah, instead of supporting a big corporate grocery stores. It really is and sometimes on that one, yes, you may spend a little more as far as like meat from a local farmer, local butcher, but you're going to be looking at quality and quality is a big thing knowing that your family's eating something and it does taste better. Like Melinda Lee said, hell like right now there is a huge recall on beef with many stores including Walmart because of salmonilla. More and more. If you've noticed more foods, more items are having more issues, goldfishes a few months back, where we call I don't get my kids goldfishes anyways. We try to minimize our processed foods, but but you know that that is something you've got to worry about is what are you putting in your child or your family that could potentially make them sick or be harmful. So while we're getting to the last few minutes, I'm gonna actually mention if anyone actually follows my Facebook or my Twitter or my Instagram, which I have them listed in my description page on preperbroadcasting dot Com, check them out. I share some of the stuff we do. And I've actually saved up a little bit of money and I was able to find and buying some horse Riddish and I have made a firesider. I'm actually here in a few minutes going to be finishing up my Elderberry syrup on top of the one that I was given by my rade, which is amazing. It makes you feel great, makes you feel better, great for cold. But that is something like that. If it's something that can help boost your immune system, you don't have to worry. I mean, these are things to think about. It, you know, through through what we have through organic food, you know, it's great. I'm looking forward on Halloween. It'll actually be ready so the show after Halloween I will be able to tell y'all how it actually turned out. And I'm looking forward to it because it looks great. It smells great. So right now though it's sitting at the steeping point, so in about four weeks at the minimum, on Halloween it should be ready. So we will find out then. So look in the ways that you can treat your family. Melnda Lee said, I made fire center last year with god awful tation. It has to kill the germs if it drinking it to the killing Melendaly, you know you base it on province. This will be the first time I've done it this way. I did put tumeric in mind. I actually have some astragulus coming in. I'm going to make it another that with a stragulus. I am curious to see how it'll turn out. So we will be there. I hope I've been able to actually give you all some advice as far as what to consider if you're gonna sit down and budget, what to consider when you go to buy your food, and what to consider you're trying to put money away for a prep. I know it wasn't much detailed, but you've got a long way to go. You might as well start with something small, keep it simple. How long will it last in a fridge? I'm not sure I know that once you've strained it out, it should last while Melinda Lee, let me look into that and I will actually shoot you an email and I can tell you for sure, Apple chemun Michael Kleine. We want something that's good for the kids. But all right, yes, Bark and dogg Is, they're playing in the backyard. So if you can hear a little sorry, all right, Well, I want to thank everybody for coming.
