I'm very excited to have Kelly Roach joining us. She's a former NFL cheerleader and Fortune 500 executive turned eight-figure entrepreneur. Excuse me. She was raised just above the poverty line but worked her way up from scrubbing the dance studio floors to paying for lessons to becoming the youngest senior vice president in a Fortune 500 firm ranked number one in the world. Kelly, it is an absolute pleasure to have you on the show. Thanks for having me. Absolutely. So, I mean, right off the bat, I think the audience is going to be like, you're a former NFL cheerleader. I'm sure that was quite an interesting experience for you. It was an incredible experience. Actually, you know, a lot of people are always shocked to learn that the women who get to the level of being an NFL cheerleader are just incredibly kind people. talented, smart, high integrity women. And, you know, a lot of them also have full-time jobs. I just so happened to be the youngest one on the team. I was on the team when I just turned 18. So it was one of five jobs that I had while I was in college. But that wasn't the case for a lot of the girls that actually had full-time jobs. And we had scientists, engineers, teachers, people in real estate, all different professions. But It was an extraordinary experience and it definitely prepared me for the working world in a lot of ways that, you know, I think my peers probably weren't ready for. Sure. And I mean, you know, most of the attention from people that are watching the NFL is going to be on what's going on on the field. But cheerleaders are incredible athletes. Incredible. I mean, people don't understand that. The cheerleaders will have practices for five, six hours at a time with like maybe two, three-minute water breaks. And game days are 14-hour days. You're, you know, on the field rehearsing before the game. Then you go back, shower, hair, makeup, everything before the game starts. It's a 14-hour day. It is incredibly challenging from an endurance standpoint because it's just not what most people think that it is. If you know what I mean. I'm sure. Now the question is, are you still an Eagles fan? They, they, they lost me with some of their decisions over the last, uh, over the last few years, to be honest. So I can't, I can't say I'm as much as a, of a fan as I once was. I definitely get that. I'm originally from California and was raised a, uh, an Oakland Raiders fan. And, uh, Number one, I'm used to my team always losing, but I just can't be supportive. I now root for teams by how conservative the state is, actually. But I'm not a Dolphins fan. I'm sorry. I don't really know any Dolphins fans, to be quite honest. Yeah. We're not Dolphins fans either. We live in Florida. We're not Dolphins fans. Although we do like University of Miami. We do like the Canes. So we've been to some games. We've enjoyed getting to know them a bit. There you go. Well, let me go through a little bit more of your life. Raised just above the poverty line. So you didn't come from sort of a silver spoon in your mouth background at all. And I love hearing this kind of a story. You worked your way into it and you obviously wanted to dance. And if you wanted to dance, I mean, I know that's expensive. You're scrubbing the floors to be able to pay for these dance lessons. Will you walk people through kind of the early stages of your life? Yeah, I mean, exactly that, right? There's five kids in the family. When you have five kids in the family, you can do the quick math. If my mom were to have a job, we would lose more money on daycare than we would have been able to earn having a second income. My dad decided he wanted to... give his life to the church, which is a beautiful thing, but he worked for a nonprofit. And so, again, do the quick math. You can see how that, you know, works out. And so, you know, I, from a very young age, I really wanted to dance. There was an incredible... dance studio in my local area. And I knew we couldn't afford it. And, you know, got my mom to go and help me strike a deal with the owner of the studio. And so, you know, three days a week after school, I would scrub the floors, clean the mirrors, clean the bathrooms, vacuum, dust, clean the studio. I cleaned this dance studio at night and on the weekends for seven years. And it That dance training actually is why I was qualified and able to make the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleading team. There was girls that had been auditioning for five years and never made the team. Hundreds of girls come out, but it was that dance training that opened that door for me. And, you know, I think that, you know, now I fast forward today, I'm in a situation where I'm very privileged to be able to, you know, pay for those things for my own daughter because of my businesses and all of those things. But now I have to work to. Teach her to not be entitled to all the things that we can give to her. So now you have an opposite problem, right? Um, but all we do is solve problems, but yeah, I mean, um, I, I cleaned the dance studio and that really taught me to be humble and it taught me to know what I really wanted out of life and not worry about the optics because It's very hard in your teenage years for you to have your peers see you on your hands and knees cleaning when they walk into the studio. But it mattered enough to me that I was willing to do that. And I think a lot of that is missing in the world of today. I think people worry way too much about the optics today. And not enough about what their core values are. And I think that's why so many people are unhappy, because their life is out of congruence, you know? I would completely agree with it. And once again, I love these kind of stories, because it shows you had a vision, you had a dream, and nothing was going to get in the way of that dream. And nothing was beneath you in order to achieve that dream. And I just echo what you were saying. You know, it's kind of funny being a little bit older and now looking at the younger generations and kind of shaking my fist a little bit at them. Like, what are you doing? You know, you're ruining it all and realizing, oh, my gosh, I've become my parents. But there is a lot of that. A lot of kids are going to, you know, four-year degree and they're majoring in something utterly ridiculous that is not going to translate well into, you know, their job futures. And then they're going on interviews. And I mean, I've seen where some of them are bringing their parents to interviews and they're expecting to go and get a position for like VP of the company right out of college. It's, it's absurd what's going on. I actually was having this conversation with my 12 year old daughter today. Cause she was like, mom, I don't know if I'm going to want to go to college. She's like, it's so expensive. Um, I don't think it's going to actually prepare me for the world. She's like, I want to have fun experiences with my friends, but I think there's a lot of other ways that I can do that. I'm like, heck yeah. You know, but the problem is, is like, now we do have kids realizing this and thinking this way, but the parents are still encouraging them and even forcing them to pursue degrees that prepare them for what? because the world does not move at the speed of the education system, which is why I pulled my daughter out of it completely. I'm like, this is not a system that is designed or optimized to navigate the challenges that our kids are facing in the world today. Well, number one, I just applaud you for taking your daughter out of public education or perhaps better said public indoctrination. But yeah, once again, There are specific jobs that, you know, if you want to be a lawyer or you're going into health care, OK, you know what? The college route makes sense for you. But for so many others, there's so many other routes that they can take. Trade schools, for example, or another one. I mean, honestly, homeschooling and my kids in private school, they're better equipped, better educated than a lot of these people coming out of the colleges right now. Oh, for sure. I mean, one of the things that I started doing with my daughter from the first week that we started homeschooling was investing classes. And, you know, today, actually, and I homeschooled her today. It was her first day of seventh grade. I literally taught her about the four levels of freedom, you know, being an employee, being an entrepreneur, being an investor, and then ultimately having lifestyle freedom when your investments surpass, you know, your expenses and can actually fund your life. And the problem is, is that the education system is designed to create employees. It's not designed to create free thinkers that can go out and actually create in the world. And so people like us have to either do that after school or on the weekends, you know, if our kids are in, you know, some kind of school or have to take it into our own hands and homeschool. But, um, it's, it's very interesting to see, um, What's possible now that a lot of people aren't taking advantage of with their kids. And I think a lot of it comes from the fear of like doing something different or going against the grain of like what their neighbors are doing or what their peers are doing or what their friends are doing with their kids. But I think that's our responsibility is to like look ahead and say, How do we best equip them? And, you know, what does that look like? That's actually why I started the Courage Club with my daughter that she runs for other girls, because it gives us an opportunity to take some of the things that we're doing in homeschool and actually bring it to other girls that may be in traditional school. But it still gives them an opportunity to learn some of those out of the box things. I absolutely love that. Not only are you doing just a fantastic job for what it sounds like in raising your daughter, But you're taking that and you're multiplying that by bringing in other kids. And once again, it shows the character of who you are. I want to move into more of your profession because this is fascinating to go from a cheerleader, very successful, but then to move into the corporate world and be very, very successful there. Can you walk the audience through that as well? Yeah, I mean, that's what happens when you have, you know, five jobs and, you know, come out of college already knowing how to manage your time. You know, I was the first one in and last one out for 10 years. I was promoted seven times in my first eight years in the job. I became the youngest senior vice president in the company. And I was essentially managing 17 locations, which are each like their own independent businesses. And I just learned a ton. You know, I was just a sponge. And I just focused on becoming the best business person I could be. I mean, I just took that job basically with the goal of becoming a great business person. Like, how do I learn how to navigate, build, and manage businesses? And, you know, I think, again, that's something that a lot of both parents and students are missing today, which is that there's something to be said for, like, experience. right? And, and coming in and like doing the work and working your way up from the ground and learning these things, but then going out on your own and figuring out how to apply them. For me, once I got to that level, I was like, okay, my work here is done. I want to keep growing. I want to do meaningful work in the world. I don't want to just, you know, make a billion dollar corporation more money. I want to do something that actually matters. And that's why I started my own business, but I still use so much of what I learned in my corporate job, in my own companies today, and even in what I teach my clients. And now you, I mean, you've written books, you travel the country, probably the world. You're a speaker, a highly sought after speaker, and you're teaching people the skills so that they can come out of, you know, the corporate workforce, where, as you said, you're just making the boss, you're making the stock or the stocks go higher, the shareholders more money. So you're actually teaching people how to become independently wealthy. Yeah, exactly. And I mean, we all have the ability. I mean, for all the downfalls and all the things that we could complain about, about the United States of America, of which there are many, of which there are many, the one thing that we can complain about is a lack of opportunity. I mean, the opportunity to make money from our phones, from our home offices is It's insane. And you know, I know you're old enough to remember this and I'm old enough to remember this. When there was no work from home, there was, you get in your car, you commute, you're going business to business. It is a grind. You're getting dressed. I remember bringing my suits to the dry cleaner every week. Like I remember that life. And I look at what we have at our fingertips now. And I'm like, This is unbelievable. Like anyone can be a millionaire. Like it's crazy. The amount of opportunity that we have. And I think the danger is when we start to just completely take that for granted, which I think a lot of people have, they use their phone for doom scrolling. They use their phone for entertainment. They use their phone for everything, but the things that can change their life, which are sitting in podcasts, just like this one in podcasts and YouTube, which you can access for free. Right. Yeah. Um, Once again, I love what you just said there. I mean, I use this platform constantly to tell people to get off their phones. And by that, I mean that the doom scrolling, you know, just spending hours upon hours of your life on Instagram, watching reels. And it's that quick little dopamine hit. And three seconds later, you're thumbing through. And I just, Kelly, I watch people at restaurants and they don't even converse with each other anymore. It's a sickness. It's absolutely an illness. I just bought a phone safe for myself. I'm on my phone a lot. I run my, I have six companies. I run my business from my phone. So admittedly, I am on my phone a lot. But the last thing that I want to do is allow that to then become like a permanent fixture everywhere I am and everything that I do. So I literally just bought a phone safe for myself so that when I'm like, okay, I'm done work. I can put it in there. I can set a timer. I can lock it and put it away. And I think everybody needs to find whatever their mechanism is for setting themselves free, because I don't think people realize what they're losing to the phone. I really don't. Can you just take a minute and talk about how freeing that experience was for you? Because I recommend this all the time on the show and my phone. I don't have any games on there. I don't have any social media on my phone. It's a tool for me. And when I'm with my kids, with my family, like that's the last thing I want to look at. But, you know, my audience may be tired of me saying that and they'll be like, Caleb, you're different. But can you talk about your own experience with locking your phone up? Oh, it's I mean, it's the most peaceful. It literally what you realize is that you are missing out on so much of your life. That's what you realize. Like the moment you put it away, you realize that you are missing out on life. It's like those little details, those little nuances, that little thing that your daughter or your son said to you, that little look in the eye of like your spouse, like you're missing all of that because the ding and the push and the beep and the vibration and the, it just, it's never ending and it's meaningless. And that's the thing is like, we don't realize that this meaningless thing that was designed with the sole purpose of distracting you with the sole person. I mean, that's why all these lawsuits are happening now. That's why there's all these cases coming up now, because they're purposely building these things to create addiction and distraction. And so we all have to think for ourselves about, And we have to be self-led and make a decision. And, you know, it's like, obviously, if our children observe that in us, they're going to replicate that behavior. And so we just have to decide, you know. Yeah. Well said. I mean, these things are intentionally addictive. That's what they were designed to do. For sure. And yeah, it's so hard to watch parents who just hold up a finger. Hold on. I'm doing something to their kid. and they're scrolling, they're playing on their phone. And they're doing nothing. And they're doing nothing. They're doing nothing, by the way. Yeah. And their kids are watching that. And we're raising kids that are 100% addicted to it. And I weep for the next generation because of this very specific issue. I want to also, I want to ask you this. I mean, this is such an opportunity for myself and for my audience. But you teach people how to become wealthy, how to get out of the rat race, as it were. Could you perhaps give us like three points or examples? I know it's kind of a free education for people right now, but could you walk us through that? Yeah. Well, I mean, first of all, selling is the number one life hack in the world. So, you know, if you want to set yourself free financially and learn how to sell, if you don't know what to do with that skill, ask yourself, what do I know? Or what can I do that people would love to be able to have access to? And that's what you sell. So you sell either access or something that you're going to do for people or knowledge or information that you're going to share with people that you have that, you know, comes naturally to you, but is valuable to them. And then you got to stop using your cell phone for scrolling and you got to start using your cell phone for going live and posting and you know, sharing your products and services. What's so fascinating to me is that if the average person who spends up to 14 hours plus a week scrolling took that time and channeled it into sharing content online about a product or service, they could be a millionaire. I mean, you don't need more than 14 hours a week of promoting any service to be able to consistently make sales and grow. So You know, this is why I love teaching sales, because it is timeless. It is the ultimate life skill. Anyone can learn it. And because everyone has access to social media for free, anyone can take it and put it to work and start making money. There's a zero barrier to entry. I think that's rock solid advice. So, I mean, as I'm kind of working this through my head, number one, perhaps a detox is Because that's what it's going to take for you to get off your cell phone and stop the doom scrolling. So maybe take a detox first. And then once you don't, you know, get those phantom vibrations in your pocket and constantly checking your phone, if you're not first thing in the morning reaching for the cell phone, then at that point, once you've broken that, really, it's a dopamine addiction. Now you can transform your phone into a tool and to start selling with it. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. And I think the big thing is a lot of people think that because they have a job or because they have other, you know, life situations, circumstances going on, that if they can't fully focus on starting a business to make money, that they shouldn't do. It at all. I mean, the time is going to pass anyway. So either you're doing something productive with it or not. But the book that I released earlier this year, it's called The Miracle Hour, Predictable Sales in an Hour a Day, is basically the methodology that I used on my lunch break while I still had my full-time job to start building and growing my business. And that's how I replaced my executive income and then ultimately was able to become a full-time entrepreneur. So You know, that book really breaks down exactly what steps to take, what order to take them in, how to take these steps to get started. And it's transforming people's lives top to bottom because they're realizing even one hour a day of focus can completely change your life. So what are your thoughts on artificial intelligence? Because a lot of people are using this as a tool. You know, they're able to... honestly magnify the amount of work that they'd be able to accomplish by using it. But then also there's some risks associated with AI. And obviously we've been talking about social media. It's just increased the amount of time people are doom-scrolling. Yeah, I mean, I don't love it. I don't personally use it a lot. My observation interacting with over a thousand entrepreneurs a week is that the vast majority of people are incredibly distracted by it and producing no meaningful results with it. MIT came up with a study that 95% of AI initiatives and companies last year produced a zero return from it. And, you know, I think obviously it's unregulated. The people that are working on it have admitted that there's terrifying consequences of where it can and probably is going that, you know, we're all going to, you know, experience the consequences of down the road. I think just like anything else, you know, AI can be a tool that can be used for good or it's a tool that can be used for bad. The internet is a tool that can be used for good or it can be used for bad. Money is a tool can be used for good or it can be bad. So I don't think inherently it's a bad thing. I think that you have to be very conscious about how you're using it. And I think a lot of people already, many businesses have created irreparable damage to their brands by outsourcing their marketing, their content to AI. And they've just lost people who are never going to come back to the brand now because people don't want to interact with your AI agent. They want to interact with a human that has consciousness and a soul. And I think just remembering that not every single thing in life is about efficiency and optimization. Like that is not the end all be all. And I think that a lot of people are like losing the plot on what we're doing and why we're doing it. Well, now I feel even better about the sticker that I have on my laptop right there. So, yeah, I once again, I completely agree with you. I actually did a show where I was talking about how in the future, I think I'm going to miss the the Indian call takers, even though they frustrated the crud out of me. I'd be like, what? I don't understand you. What are you saying? Even though it was rough, it was still a human being. I'd rather talk to a human being than a computer every day of the week. Oh, you'll be begging for them to come back because, you know, now when you call and you get in the AI circuit, I mean, you're stuck. You're stuck. And then, you know, what they do at the end of it now is they just hang up on you. You never do make it to a human. And we've all had that experience. And what I would say to anyone who is a decision maker in a company or a business owner, a You need to really think about the experience that you want to have when you interact with a brand and not act in violation of that. Because people will ultimately make decisions to buy from brands that have a human touch to it. They will make a decision to buy from brands that they have a relationship with a person. And you can look at the stats already presenting themselves to that effect. Well, 100%. I mean, the fact that I call anybody that contacts me on church and state, the amount of people that just say, I can't believe you do this. I'm like, well, I decided it was important to reach out to them, to have a conversation with them, because that does build that relationship. And I got to tell you, if I'm dealing with a company and it's just an AI chat bot and I'm frustrated, I've got an issue with the product, whatever, and I can never get to a human being, I'm going to walk away from that company. Yeah. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. Yeah. And, and not just you, all of us. Absolutely. So let me, uh, let me transition over to here and we will probably have to cover this a little bit more after the hard break here. But, um, a lot of people, when they view capitalism or the free market, uh, they viewed as rather cold. And, you know, the, the, the emphasis is of course on the dollar, right? We're going to make as much money as we humanly possibly can. Um, You're a Christian first before you are a businesswoman. And I want to talk to you about how you can build a company without losing those Christian values. Yeah. I mean, listen, whatever order you put for the priorities of your life, you can build the priorities of your life around. Whatever you put as the priorities for your company, you can build your company around. Chick-fil-A is a great example. of a company that's in one of the most competitive spaces in the world that still closes one day out of seven every single week because of its Christian values. And it has actually exceeded the growth and margins of many of its competitors. So, I mean, you can look at studies of business leaders that, you know, lead with their faith. They tend to have more profitable and faster growing businesses. There's just a lot of. There's a lot of opportunity for people to think for themselves in this world. And I think that a lot of people perceive that you can't have this and that because of the limited thinking of someone else, not because of their personal experience or their personal knowing. And I think that that's something that needs to be explored and questioned. I would agree. Now we have hit that hard break moment. And we've been talking about, well, she's got an incredible life, obviously, going from near poverty to a Philadelphia Eagle cheerleader to a very successful businesswoman. and getting out of the corporate world so that she could do what she wanted to do. Now, I'd asked her a question about her Christian faith and in business, and I loved her response. I got to tell you, Kelly, you were talking about Chick-fil-A, and there's so many examples of this, In-N-Out Burger, Hobby Lobby, who wear their Christianity out in the open. And the reality is, ladies and gentlemen, America still is predominantly a Christian country. And so when fellow Christians see that about your business, you're closed on a Sunday, You know, you're allowing people, your employees to go and worship the Lord and have a day of rest. It's really a beautiful thing. And people are going to do business with you. Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, I think that there was definitely a season in American culture where it was not encouraged or even felt safe to share information. about those values openly or to have that be at the forefront of your business. And I think that we've definitely turned a major corner. And I think it's really important that if you do have those values, that they're incorporated into your business and that you play a leadership role in encouraging other people to do the same. Because I think we can all agree that we would live in a happier society with less violence, more community, cleaner streets, healthier environments, better, stronger families, more united communities, if everyone lived their faith and shared their faith. And so I think that is Something that it's very important for people to not be waiting for someone else to do. And I think that is a big thing going on right now is everyone's kind of waiting and looking and hoping that someone else will go first. There's plenty of people that are already going first. And so now it's everyone's turn and everyone needs to answer the question, if not, you know, you, then who? And I think we don't realize how much impact and influence we all have to set that example and invite other people to go down that path. And I can attest to what you were just talking about. I mean, I've traveled a lot for my different jobs that I've had. And the Southeast, where everything is still more culturally Christian, it's just a nicer environment. People still talk with you. They look you in the eye. They hold doors open for women versus where I'm at in Pacific Northwest where nobody even wants to say hello to you. But let me ask you this too, Kelly, because as somebody who's been in charge of businesses for I mean, doesn't it make sense to want to hire Christians? I mean, we're trying not to cuss. The Bible tells us not to steal, to cheat, to covet. We're supposed to work hard, diligently for our employer. Wouldn't it make sense to hire a Christian? I don't even think that's on people's radars. That's kind of what my point is, is that God has gotten pushed so far out of the conversation and culture for so many people that a lot of people don't even reach for that tool in their tool belts anymore. And I think that's really kind of my message to the listeners is like you have to at a certain point stop waiting for someone else to do it. and be the person that does it. And whether that's in your neighborhood, it's in your community, it's at your kid's school, it's in your business, it's in your company that you lead or run, it's just leading with those values and then letting other people be inspired and impacted by you. And I think that we were taught so much growing up, obviously, separation of church and state. And so I think that was engineered so that that got pushed out of the conversation. And we see the exact outcome, the exact desired outcome was achieved by that. And it's only by people deciding that they're going to choose to do things differently, that we can create a different outcome. Yeah, once again, I completely agree. You know, Starbucks kind of blows my mind, to be quite honest. Like, I feel like every single one of their employees is like, you have to have your hair dyed, something pierced, definitely be an atheist. I don't know how that model continues to operate. Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, there's, there's an opportunity there as well. Right. Because, you know, I don't think you do strange things to your body unless you're struggling with something. And so I think that there's an opportunity there as well. Oh, a hundred percent to wear our Christianity on our sleeve and to go and minister to these people. I love that. Absolutely. Now you also do a great podcast as well. How long have you been doing your podcast? 10 years. Okay. 10 years. We've never missed a week. We do two episodes a week. Yeah. And what kind of guests are you bringing on? You know, obviously the conversations are going to be centered around your model and what you're doing with business. But what kind of guests can people expect? Yeah, I did a lot more guests in the past. I do a lot of solo episodes now teaching business, teaching mindset, teaching faith, leadership, shared wisdom, you know, all of those things. And certainly, you know, I've been a part of his plan. My wife still listens to him. But sometimes I get a little bit frustrated with the Dave Ramsey plan of just beans and rice, beans and rice. You're not even going to live your life for a number of years until you cancel all this debt. Sorry, kids, we don't have the money to go anywhere. We're just going to stay home and eat beans and rice. Is your model a little bit different than that? My model is a lot different than that. I mean, I've always erred on the side of like, learn the skills to make more money. I don't think you can punish yourself into success or punish yourself into having millions of dollars in investments. So I've always erred on the side of how do we help people develop the mindset, the skill set and the tool set to be able to afford the things that they want to. So I come from a very kind of opposite perspective from that. Thank you. Thank you. I am going to be recommending The Kelly Roach Show to my wife to get maybe an alternative view. And not to say that my wife's like got this all on this like strict budget where we can't do anything fun. No, that's not the case. But no, I do like that because just like with your job or with social media, like what we were talking about, you can make it to where getting out of debt is. has become almost a God to you. And now you're missing more elements of your life because now we got to get out of debt. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Like, and there, there's a time and place and you know, what's so crazy about, you know, Dave Ramsey and all of these other people is that, you know, obviously, you know, he's had his share of debt. Um, he probably carries maybe even, I don't know, hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars of debt. Now I have no idea. I don't know his financials. Um, but that's the thing is like, you have to be able to take everything with a grain of salt. Not always listen to everything that someone says, but maybe watch what they do.
