Lastly, if you want to get a hold of us Church and State seventeen seventy six at Proton dot me. With that, let's go ahead and bring on our guests. I'm bringing in Craig Alsip from Manu Worldwide. Craig is a missionary with his wife Jennifer and his son Jude and daughter Sarah, and they work primarily in the unreached areas in Asian with saving grace and love of Jesus Christ. They actually seek to create partnerships with churches, businesses and individuals that will support MANA churches, orphanages, school nutrition centers, and anti child trafficking projects, which is incredibly important. With that introduction, Craig, thank you for joining us on Church and State. Hey Man, thank you so much for having me on. Excited to get to chat today. Yeah, it's a real pleasure to have you on. I so respect individuals such as yourself who see or hear the call and they say here I am Lord, send me and for you, it'sifically in the regions of Asia that are unreached, where there's massive amounts of poverty, where people don't have access to healthcare, to education. There's a lot of trafficking unfortunately that's occurring there. And not only are you going out there, but you and your whole family are going out there as well. That's true. Yeah, we've made it a family affair from the beginning. We've been doing this full time for the last ten years and really wanted our kids to sort of grow up knowing why we live sort of an interesting life, a different life than a lot of people and a lot of their friends and so it's been really good. My kids have served in and traveled to over twenty countries. I think in the last you know, my son's eleven, my daughter's fourteen at this point. So wow, that's pretty cool. Here, I am trying to check off every single state in the US, and your kids have been to twenty countries already. Pretty phenomenal. So when you are operating in Asia, can you tell us specifically what countries are going going into? Yeah? Sure, So we have projects throughout Asia. We have projects in Mongolia, Nepal, India, we have work in Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, Me and mar a little bit everywhere and Bangladesh, and so we are serving in a bunch of different countries. Now there's several of us that focus within that Asia region. My primary countries throughout Asia are Nepal and India, and then I do a little bit of work in Thailand and Cambodia and the Philippines as well. So gotcha. So some of these locations can be actually rather dangerous for you, correct. Yeah, not. You know, it's not always the easiest thing to do what we do, right, We've never felt any direct danger, right, like anybody specifically coming at us, but we are you know, we do have to be careful with what we do and what we say and how we serve. Right. Uh. What we've found is that most people are pretty okay with you serving and caring for their children, especially you know, in places that are suffering with pretty intense issues with physical poverty and stuff like that. That helps to buy us a lot of goodwill for sure. Sure. And you're also going into some countries that have traditionally been some pretty strong and powerful demonic areas. I mean you mentioned India there. I've talked to actually a few people that have gone into India, and we as Christians, we seemed we tend to believe, you know, hey, we serve the one true God. So these other religions they don't actually have any power. That's not always the case. I mean they honestly, some of the demons that they worship, because that's what I believe, and I'm sure you believe as well, they do actually have power. Yeah, the Bible tells us playing out that we are fighting against powers and principalities that we're fighting against, you know, these demonic spirits, these demonic beings that do have some power within, you know, within the earth right they are they are seeking to kill and still and destroy everywhere they go. And so yeah, we definitely come come against a lot of that. We see a lot of that Nepal and India in particular, when I go in, when I take people to those places, it's it's pretty often that it feels pretty heavy, I can imagine. So obviously with with what you're doing with rescuing children from poverty, your website here Mana Worldwide dot Com has some pretty staggering statistics here, and I'd love to talk with you a little bit here. One in three lack adequate shelter, one in four malnourished, one in five are without clean water, and one in seven have no access to health services. This is something that's so foreign to Americans without literally' been to have, you know, one in five without clean water. I mean, it's not something that most of us have ever experienced in our life, and you're out there living it. Yeah. I grew up in small town Mississippi. I don't know if you can tell with my with my accent, but I grew up in small town Mississippi, and I really thought, you know, as being you know, the poorest state in the nation. I thought, man, I really know what poverty looks like. You know, I grew up in a middle class family. I can't, you know, say that I was ever without, but looking around me when I was young, I thought, man, I know what it looks like. And it took traveling out of the country for the first time, first time to any place other than Western Europe, at least in two thousand and eight, my wife and I went and traveled around the world, did a sixteen month, seventy six country backpacking trip that opened our eyes to the needs of people around the world and showed us that we were actually in the minority as being some of the richest people in the world, and that most people in the world that we encountered as we traveled had it far worse than we ever imagined and far worse than anybody that we had seen growing up. So it's a yeah, it's a staggering statistics and staggeringly sadly true. Sure, no, I agree, and I you know the state you're from. It's the one state that every American can spell. We all know how to do Mississippi. Absolutely. They made it hard, but they figured out a way for it to teach all of us. Now, your organization going in there, it looks like to me that you guys work within the churches or you know, just individuals, but you guys are getting sponsorships so that you can continue on your mission. Is that accurate? Yes, sorry, that's correct. We so we partner with local churches, pastors, missionaries around the world in the almost fifty countries that we work in, with an idea that if we can come alongside those local churches, if we can connect with those pastors and missionaries, then we can help to sort of fuel the fire of their ministry. We can help to sort of expand and allow them to be focused where they're at instead of sort of having one foot here and one foot there to try to raise money themselves. Instead, we can come alongside and say, hey, we want you to be one hundred percent focus on what you're doing here. We're going to come in, We're going to help you with finances, We're going to help you with some logistical support. We're going to help you by creating partnerships with churches and businesses, individuals. In the United States in particular, because we happen to have so many of the resources in the world. We're gonna help to partner those people with you and with your work to make it possible for you to do so much more for your community. And I had a friend long ago from Nepal who told me that you can't share the Gospel with somebody who can't hear it over their stomach growling, And and I've seen that to be true. You have to help people reach those base physical needs before you can help them reach those spiritual needs, which obviously are their greatest needs. But you've you've got to you've got to take some steps to get there first before they're going to care about what you're saying. You know, as you were you were speaking there, it brought me to the Gospels and the story of the feeding of the five thousand, and also the four thousand. But you know, Jesus is obviously preaching a message of salvation, but he didn't ignore their physical needs. He knew that these people were hungry. And at a certain point, no matter how you know, amazing the speaker is, and obviously Jesus would be the most amazing speaker of all time, but at some point people are gonna be like I got to go home and get some food. He took care of that. He took over those needs and and and that's what you guys are doing out there. You're making sure that, yes, you have a Christian mission, but we're gonna come in here. We're gonna take care of the physical needs. We're gonna get you some clean water, we're gonna eat you some food to eat, some shelter, and and through that you can you can actually model the love of Christ and then ultimately bring them into really that unity within Christianity. Yeah, that's exactly it. And as you you take a look at what Jesus did, right, and he didn't just go around preaching at people. He went and served people. He loved people, he healed people, he was compassionate to them, he fed them, he gave them water when they needed a drink, right, and and he shared the Gospel with them. And so we can't neglect one for the other, definitely, no matter which way we go with that. There was this big movement, you know, many years ago to you know, every missionary should be a church planting missionary only, right, And and it's kind of this idea of like, if you build it, they will come go out there and build churches and start churches. And the problem is you start a church in a community where everybody's having to scrap by and spend every last you know, second of their time just to feed themselves. And you go, okay, like, how do you know, how do you really actually expect them to have time to come to church? Right? And so you do some some poverty alleviation things. You do some you know, maybe you dig a water well beside a church that provides water so they don't have to walk three hours to get their water anymore, and all of a sudden, you free up some time and some bandwidth for them to be able to actually listen to the gospel. Absolutely, now, would it be correct? And assuming that you're also teaching these individual skills so that they can not only no, I mean, I don't want to say depend on you guys, but you know, if you guys were to leave or are they going to be in a better position because of some of the skills that you've taught them. Yeah, exactly. So we have business leaders and stuff like that that come along on mission trips, often to different countries around the world. They're helping start and start up projects and run projects that are educating some of the kids and teenagers young adults that we work with. The other things that we're doing is actually starting schools because similar to what I said with the water thing, if you've got a kid that's got to walk three hours each way to get to a local school, or there is no local school that they can go to, then their options are pretty limited in life, right, And so we come alongside our partners in those communities to start a school, maybe alongside the church, so that it ties them with that Christian body, but also provides them in education so that they have an on ramp to actually like level up their life and their families live. And that's how we're changing, you know, we're working to change poverty and to make a big impact in the communities that we work in. Sure, let me ask you a question you probably weren't going to expect, but you mentioned that you'd been into like Cambodia, and you've been into some of these UH Southeast Asian countries that experienced the evils of communism. Do you find that there's not only some healing obviously some spiritual healing, but also perhaps some generation healing from those that remember the atrocities that they had to go through under under the thumb of communism. We do. You know, you step into Cambodia and you can't help but see it everywhere. Right, I've been to the killing fields, I've been to the Twall Slang prison and some of those different things where you see sort of the the worst that humanity has ever you know, come up with to do to people. Right, you see, you know, just the worst of the worst types of situations played out, you know, in images and in videos and in you know, sometimes the just the place itself, like with the killing fields. To see bodies, I mean you still see bones ticking out the ground and stuff. It's crazy. And you see that. The Cambodian people especially have impressed me beyond almost anybody else I've ever seen, because they've gone through so much, yet they are so motivated in the opposite direction now, they're so motivated to to improve their lives and improve their lives of the people around them. And so in a lot of ways, it's there's a very hopeful feeling coming out of those terrible communist situations and atrocities that happened. In other ways, though, there is that generational. I mean, there's that trauma that that people need to know that that there's a God that loves them, there's a God, that there's a God that wants to step in and take away some of that hurt and provide that healing. Sadly, Cambodia is still very much a loss, you know, it's still very that sits within that N forty window of many many, many people need to know about Jesus there in Cambodia and the regions around. But communism hasn't done hasn't done them any favors in creating this generational just just overwhelming trauma for people, and hopefully we can come alongside and support and encourage and and help them to take a step out of that, and when they do, they find a freedom like they've never found, you know, both in their political ideologies as well as their faith. Yeah. Absolutely, that's both some good news and some sad news that you share with the audience there. We have some church camps that we put on that travel traveling church camps called the Engage that connects with young people and specifically challenges young people to take steps of faith towards whatever God has for them, but as specifically towards ministry roles, towards missions roles, things like that. We also have projects in Colorado, I believe, Ohio, Missouri, here in Texas that support schools, you know those Title I think they're called Title Land schools that I have struggles with food, insecurity and stuff like that too, and so we come alongside them to provide like backpack programs through local churches that we partner with here in the United States to really try to lift people out of poverty, you know, even within our inner cities. And yeah, so you know, I say we're in about fifty countries. One of those is the United States, and then you've got obviously Central South America. You've got Asia and Africa and the Middle East. You've got Eastern Europe, you've got some of the South Pacific. You're a little bit of we're a little bit out of everywhere. So sure, well, I got to tell you, I'm so pleased to hear that you guys are operating within the United States, because unfortunately, I've seen a lot of missionary groups they kind of turn a blind eye to what's going on in the US. And I firmly believe the United States needs missionaries from within the United States. You know that we have a lot of problems here. There's a lot of moral bankruptcy that has occurred within the United States, and far too often we see missionaries that just want to go over to a foreign country. And I'm not trying to, you know, dismiss that the importance of that, but I do find it really really appealing that your organization mana worldwide doesn't just ignore their home country. Yeah No. Our goal is to help churches here in the United States to better connect with that sort of Axe one eight model of ministry where we see Jesus telling his followers like here's the thing. I want you to go to Jerusalem and Judaea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. I want you to go like here, there and everywhere. Right is how I usually state that. And you know, when we look at like what's our isem right, So most people would say, okay, you know, maybe Jesus is saying right around us, okay, you need to you need to support people right around you, Judaea, maybe a little bit further out the whole country, maybe this region, right. And I love I actually love that Jesus says Samaria in there because it reminds us that we should still love and support and reach out to and share the gospel with those people that don't look like us, they don't talk like us. They you know, there may be the people that that we Our first inclination is to go around them, right, which the ancient jew would have known Samaria was a representation of a people that they typically wanted to step around and not you know, step up to. And Jesus is saying, hey, no, go to them. Also as you're as you're going go to everybody here or there, and even in Samaria. And then he says and to the ends of the world or to the ends of the earth. And you know, I love that there's not an ore there, right, there's an end. And so I think that when we're talking about the local church here in the United States, we're talking about business leaders, individuals, whoever we're talking about, there are people who are going to be so committed to serving people right in their community. And man, those people are doing an incredible work, and those people are doing a necessary work. I mean, if the church was doing its job here in the United States, we wouldn't have as many people ask begging the government to do the job of the church. Right, and so if we I'll preach, but if we if you know, if if we were doing our job here in the United States, and here you're doing it in a big enough way, then we wouldn't need the government to fill in the gaps and we wouldn't have as many problems as we have with our government wanting to take over and control everything we do. And and similarly, you know, you're gonna find people within local churches in the United States and businesses and whatever that their thing is Colombia, their thing is Mexico, their thing is some somewhat regional in focus, and man, are they needed to go and serve and love and care and give and pray and make an impact there. And then you're gonna have those, you know, some area people that you know, there's a lady within my church here in Fort Worth who specifically goes to like Afghan refugees. And you know, there's so much of the world that's really you know, so so many Americans would really struggle with doing that, and yet man, it's her thing, it's what she loves. And then and then, as Jesus said, into the ends of the earth, you're gonna have people like me that are crazy, that want to that want to go and travel and see the world, and that want to make an impact on the other side of the planet and who feel called and live to do that. And it's all necessary because people need Jesus, you know, down the street, around the corner and all around the world everywhere. Absolutely. Yeah, it's listening to that quiet voice that's directing you on the path that you're supposed to take. And I got to tell you, you are preaching my language. I definitely am, and picking up what you're putting down when you're talking about the proper church authority and not relying on government for everything. That's a big topic for us here on church and state. So I'm right there with you. I'd like to tell this conversation a little more emotional. Don't worry, ladies and gentlemen, I'm not getting in touch with my feminine side. But no, A lot of people like to hear some emotional stories, and I would love for you to share perhaps some stories that you've experienced in the different countries that you've been where we can see God's grace or just a really encouraging story of somebody who is maybe very oppositional who ultimately was led to Christ. Yeah, let me let me start with one. My my daughter sun Deepa. So and when you led into this talk, uh, you talked about my kiddos, Sarah and Jude. They're my biological kids. Now, we have been going back and forth to the country of Nepal since two thousand and eight and serving people there and and you know, finding finding family there as well. Right, And so we have an orphanage that we work with there where we now actually a couple of orphanages where we've now sponsored four kids and very proud that that these kiddos call me dad and that, uh, and that I consider them my own though they've they've never been adoptable. There's a bunch of crazy laws that get in the way of that. But they know, they know who they are and who they are and uh yeah. Anyway, but my daughter's son, Deepa, she's fourteen now. She came to our orphanage when she was about eight years old, seven or eight. And when she came to us, she'd never really been in school much. She had really struggled with being able to be in school because a witch doctor in her village had supposedly put a curse on young ladies that they would not be able to go to school, and specifically that she would get sick whenever she whenever they tried to take her to school. And that's what actually happened you mentioned a minute ago, those powers and principalities and those demon demon gods and demon entities and sun Deepa suffered ben she would get sick every time they tried to take her to school. She couldn't get to school. She everything happened with her family to make them worse and worse off and further and further into poverty. She ended up in our orphanage at eight seven or eight, and at first we tried to take her to school. Our partners there would take her to school and she would get sick, just all kinds of different sick headaches, her hands and arms hurting, really bad stomach aches, all kinds of weird stuff which just happened. And it was like clockwork man. Every time they tried to take her to school, something bad would come up, and they began to pray over her. We began to pray over her. We have a worship session every night in our children's home, and they began to pray over her and worship and tell her about Jesus. And as sudep A learn more about Jesus and began, you know, that childhood faith, right, that childish faith, to say, okay, maybe you know, maybe this is real, maybe I should do this. And she kind of jumped into worship and started to worship Jesus. And before long they realized that she no longer got sick, and they tried to take her to school. Now, to me, you know, I grew up Baptist, I'm still I'm still very Baptistic in my views and everything right, but you know, this is one of those situations that you never heard about when you're you know, in Baptist Church growing up, right, But I know her, I know her story, I know exactly what happened. The curse was broken, and Sandeepa started to excel in school. She started to learn at a rapid pace. She started to just kill it on exams. Before long, she was top of her class. Before long, she was top of her school of three hundred and fifty students in the community. And we began to see God do a work in Sandeepa and began to see her faith just blossom as well as her education. And now she's fourteen. You would never imagine that her formative school year. We're anything but perfect. And she is brilliant and beautiful and kind and just just the best human. And a couple of years ago she got to go back and visit her village for the first time since she left there as a child, and she told me before she went, she said, you know, Dad, I've been I've been praying for there to be a church in my village because God needs to God needs to break the spell. It's like kind you gotta like work your jaw on, you know, you rip it when you bite into it, and then you're chewing on from for like a good five minutes or so. Like that's the kind of jerky I like. All right, grass fed jerky. Go check it out. That that medium one. It's got some heat to it. I've never even tried the hot kind. Man might kill me, but I don't know. I want to try it anyway. It's so important and vital to what we're doing here. And once again I'll remind you if you like the content that we're producing on a daily basis, we do need your help to continue. All right, with that, let's go back to our guests. Greg sorry Craig alsop manaworldwide dot Com and Craig, please continue with the story of your daughter as you returned to the village of her birth. Yeah, Sun Deepa got the opportunity to go back to her village. She'd been praying for years for there to be a church there, and so she jumped on a bus and she went for It was like two days of bus rides and transfers and it was crazy. She got there to her village and I'd given her a phone to take with her before she went, so she'd be able to contact me, you know, kind of that lifeline. You know. I was like, man, I can't let her go without without having some lifeline. And she messages me on the first day there and she says, Dad, You'll never believe what has happened. And I'm like, what do you mean? And she goes, She goes. I was walking through the village and I started asking people if there was a church here, and they pointed me to the church in the village and she was like, I got to go visit the church in my village that I've been praying for for years. She got to stand up and cheer her testimony, She got to connect with, you know, the leaders and the people in the church and this is this is a young lady that at the time was like, you know, twelve thirteen years old, and all of a sudden, she's going into her home village that she's been praying for a church for and boom, it's there. And man, I you know, I have no doubt in my mind that Sunday I prayed prayed a church in near a village and that God has done work there. So yeah, it's one of the most incredible stories. Yeah, I thank you sincerely for sharing that, not only with me, but with my audience as well, because we need to be reminded of things like that. You know, here's a here's a little girl who, as we've been talking about, there is power in the demonic realms, and this witch doctor, I have no doubt, had demonic entities attached to them, and we're able to pass that on to that little girl, whether it was you know, a combination of the demonic and then the psychological abuse that had occurred through the witch doctor. But this little girl, your daughter, had some issues going into school and she was getting sick and so to hear about Jesus's redemption right there. And you know, once these chains were broken off. There was just this hunger for him and for education as well. And so I absolutely love an a door that you were able to share that story, and then for her to be able to go back and go to her village and say, do you remember me? I was that little girl that had a curse and I've been freed and there's a church here now that I can share my story with. Absolutely incredible. Yeah, it's a beautiful thing when when God reaches down and touches somebody and changes their lives, changes their heart and changes of course their testimony. Right. She was like, what do I say? And I'm like, just tell people what happened to you, tell people what Jesus did for you. And she does and she's incredible, and yeah, she's super proud of her. Sure, do you mind if I say something about when you were sharing this, you were talking about you know, you grew up Baptist and this is not something you experienced within the Baptist Church. I grew up within like the hyper hyper charismatic churches. And I've actually converted to Lutheranism, uh, just just recently, and so I don't feel like I don't the Pentecostal or charismatic churches need to be the only churches that have experienced things like what you were talking about here. We all believe in the power of God, and I know that the Lutheran church that I attend, well more traditional obviously still sees that there is demonic power and that Christ his authority is over that that there can be people that are relieved from demonic oppression. And I would hope, and I'm not saying anything to it, you know, attack Baptist churches or anything like that, but I would hope that more churches that maybe haven't experienced this would open the door to the thought that hey, this does still occur in this world. It's not something that's absent or has disappeared. Yeah. I think far too often we try to, you know, pretend maybe for our own mental uh you know, assistance, right, that we try to pretend like these things don't exist. But the problem with pretending that the demonic and stuff like that doesn't exist is that then we don't take the mission as seriously as we would if we understood that there are there are powers that come against us, and we need to we need to be stronger in our fight, right, We need to be stronger in our faith. We need to be we need to be doing more to challenge and go against the enemy than just sitting in our pews or sitting in our chairs once a week. Right, It's a very true thing to say that most of the church here in the United States, and you know, to around the world to some extent, really we live for Sunday and that you know, gives us our motivational speech for the week. And you know, and then maybe we don't do as much with it as we should. So maybe we're not in the word as much as we should. Maybe we don't pray as much as we should. Uh, maybe we don't give and go and serve and get involved as much as we should. And I believe that you know, Satan, Satan cannot take you away from Jesus once you are his right, I'm a you know, one hundred percent sure of that. But he can take you out of the fight. And sometimes he takes you out of the fight by making you too comfortable and keeping you from understanding that what's coming against you and what's coming up in the world is demonic and does require a little grit. I one percent agree. I just actually had a guest on that we were talking about the screwtape letters, the masterful work by C. S. Lewis, And if you read through that, it's two demons talking to each other and figuring out different ways to take this person out of the fight. And that could be comfort, that could be a woman. I mean, there's all sorts of different avenues that these demons were approaching and taking the person out of the fight. So I so appreciate what you just said there. I want to go back, as we're kind of closing out the podcast here to manaworldwide dot Com, and I want you to walk this through this website because I'd love for my audience to explore it to Chris is just showing it on the screen here for everyone, but walk us through it.
