DAC - Memory Lane!

[00:00:00] A person who advocates a practice is preparedness, routine.

[00:00:22] That is a Prepper.

[00:00:25] Hello all you Preppers out there on internet radio and this is Dave Jones the NBC guy coming

[00:00:34] to you on a Sunday Sunday Sunday man it's been chilly.

[00:00:39] I guess if you listen to the Intrepid Commanders Mother's Day special you know it was pretty

[00:00:49] chilly here and we're at 1900 feet above what the Intrepid Commander is so we're a little

[00:00:58] more chilly but that's the way it goes you know.

[00:01:03] Don't plant your stuff too soon.

[00:01:07] I mean it's supposed to get down to 46 tonight and it is clear so I'm hoping we can see the

[00:01:12] northern lights.

[00:01:14] Yeah now I have seen them many times living in Alaska for eight years.

[00:01:23] I actually saw them in Pennsylvania once too and it was kind of baffling.

[00:01:28] It was probably the last time they had to be solar storm.

[00:01:34] 20 some years ago 25 years ago because that works out pretty close to being right and

[00:01:43] it was it was winter-ish.

[00:01:46] It was cold out I remember that and I got out of the car and I looked up and I'm like

[00:01:51] what the heck is that?

[00:01:54] And then I realized wow that's the northern lights what's going on here.

[00:02:04] Yeah it's beautiful and it's ominous all at the same time because that means our magnetic

[00:02:12] shield is weakening but that's a story for another day.

[00:02:21] On Mother's Day we didn't do anything here for Maria because well her mom is in bad shape

[00:02:34] and the kids were particularly nice today and accommodating and not a lot of fighting.

[00:02:45] So and someone suggested that I cook for her and I said I could do that any day of the

[00:02:52] week and I did.

[00:02:57] So that's what's going on Mother's Day here we're planning a trip to Prepper Camp now

[00:03:06] there there there man.

[00:03:14] It says something about your life when you're looking forward to going and sleeping overnight

[00:03:21] in a trailer a cargo trailer with your wife.

[00:03:29] Oh that's funny that's funny right there so we talked about Prepper Camp and what we're

[00:03:37] going to do and all this kind of stuff and she said the kids never like it it's boring

[00:03:43] to them and they just sit there and complain how about if we leave the kids at home.

[00:03:49] Diana is 17 now so yeah yeah I think we can leave the kids at home.

[00:03:56] Maria and I go to Prepper Camp and dude dude it's going to be great so that's our vacation.

[00:04:10] So I recently posted pictures in the back channel of my latest project.

[00:04:18] I bought a very small dog kennel but it is absolutely raccoon proof so and then what

[00:04:29] I did was I put two by sixes up in between the where the rafters are and then put two

[00:04:38] by fours across them and drilled in some metal roofing so that is where the turkeys are and

[00:04:50] this is going to be our meat bird facility from now on.

[00:04:58] So this is Prepper infrastructure okay so if you don't have a lot of time you can

[00:05:06] spend a little more money and get you a dog kennel and attach the thinnest sheets of plywood.

[00:05:14] I did do that. I put some one by ones on the inside and attached what is it one

[00:05:22] quarter inch it's very thin plywood but it's painted on both sides with deck paint so

[00:05:32] it's super super waterproof and that's their protection. I only did half of the dog kennel

[00:05:39] it's 10 5 by 10 by 6 but it has a door and then around the outside of the dog kennel we put up

[00:05:52] our temporary electric mesh fence and I have a battery operated solar powered fence charger

[00:06:02] that I put on there and so far so good so we'll see but we have 10 turkeys up there we're

[00:06:10] going to move the geese up there. We may even move the duck box up for the geese I don't know

[00:06:17] I don't know but we're trying to escalate our infrastructure so that we can incubate and produce

[00:06:32] our own food and we never have to worry about where are we going to put them. We're back in the

[00:06:38] rabbits we have some rabbits one the female is not old enough to breed yet so we're waiting

[00:06:45] a little bit on that quail I'm going to add a shelf a shelf to this shelter and we have a plastic quail

[00:06:56] pen where the quail just pop out the eggs and they roll down to a tray and you can feed them it's

[00:07:05] getting more and more automated here at the Jones homestead which is good which is good and we

[00:07:11] only have two more weeks of actual school so that's good and then we go into testing and then final

[00:07:21] cleaning and preparation of the classroom I don't know how much of that I'm going to do because

[00:07:28] you know what it is what it is but I'm going back to teaching next year I signed my contract so

[00:07:40] I'll be a history teacher another year they must like what I said I'm chuckling because one guy

[00:07:50] couldn't stand Trump and he did not last very long at this school just saying just saying

[00:08:00] anyway I'm gonna miss the seniors they were all really really great kids and they're all going on to

[00:08:13] other stuff so any 11th graders are gonna become seniors next year which is exciting for them and

[00:08:25] me I I told them the other day that I feel like you guys are all my kids and they looked at me like

[00:08:38] what I see yeah I think this is a family here you all know everybody in every grade and it

[00:08:50] just is more like a family than anything so when they screw up I get hurt it's disappointment rather

[00:09:05] than frustration just the way it is I think I am in the right place at the right time and

[00:09:15] man God's plan is amazing at 67 years old God said you know what you need to teach some history

[00:09:27] I need these kids to know some history and you're just the guy to do it dang look if you live long

[00:09:40] enough this road called life has so many twists and turns in it that you can't even imagine where

[00:09:51] you're gonna end up and that's just my viewpoint looking back the funny thing was they they said

[00:10:04] wow you have a story for everything and I said well if you live long enough yeah you have a

[00:10:10] story for everything the kids did a when I say kids the elementary school did a patriotic summer

[00:10:21] concert and they sang Lee Greenwoods I'm proud to be an American and I told the one class about

[00:10:31] how I heard that song for the first time I was selected to march in President Reagan's second

[00:10:42] inaugural parade and we we practiced for a week I was one of 77 or 76 I don't know it was a it

[00:10:52] was a specific number of Army Reserve people and we practiced and practiced and the day before

[00:11:04] the parade it was supposed to be like six below and they canceled the parade they thought we were

[00:11:15] all gonna get frostbite which we probably would have they put us in a big stadium they they said

[00:11:22] get on this bus go to the stadium so we go to the stadium we get in the stands and everybody is

[00:11:29] there in the seats that was supposed to march in the parade 82nd Airborne was there there were

[00:11:37] high school bands that were there it was really really nice and then these people come out on

[00:11:45] the floor and they're dancing and waving flags and Lee Greenwoods I'm proud to be an American

[00:11:53] comes on and it was fantastic these people who were supposed to perform for the president

[00:12:03] was now performing for us and then we see on the big jumbo screen Marine one taking off from the

[00:12:16] White House lawn we didn't see anything else so we just saw the helicopter taking off and

[00:12:22] landing in the parking lot of this stadium and Ronald Reagan and George Bush came in and spoke to

[00:12:35] all of us in that arena and it was amazing it was amazing first of all you hardly see the

[00:12:45] president vice president together and the 82nd Airborne was over there and they were whoo-whoo-whoo

[00:12:52] it was man it was fantastic and all our our group was together everybody that worked for a whole

[00:12:59] week marching it was great so PBN family take care and prep on
