[00:00:31] and Chen Gibson.

[00:00:35] Chapter 54. Flying across the morning sky Cole was shocked watching the chaos unfold

[00:01:54] under him again. The quakes hit so hard that the land above the vast reservoir liquefied

[00:02:10] and dropped into the water below. Everything was swallowed into a silty grave. The water

[00:02:28] was littered with the remnants of the past. Survivors of the disaster flooded onto the

[00:02:33] land on either side of the vast lake. Oh my God, Major, what will we do now? Johnny asked.

[00:02:42] How many more refugees did it just create? Cole asked looking at him. Cole knew they

[00:02:47] would be assigned to round them up and he dreaded the task. The new capital city

[00:02:53] in Kansas starkly contrasted with the destruction they had seen unfolding before

[00:02:58] their eyes. Cole sat lounging on a balcony with Johnny. The scent of flowers floated

[00:03:04] through the air as Cole stared out across the city bowl they were housed in. The

[00:03:10] buildings tapered down on all sides to a green garden space in the center. The

[00:03:16] sound of commerce in motion rang up from below along with the chatter of a multitude

[00:03:21] of birds as they danced through the air. This place is amazing, sir, Johnny chirped

[00:03:27] as two birds spiraled up through the air in a magical celebration of life. Wow,

[00:03:32] did you see that? And how did they build the outer walls so big? And look at

[00:03:37] this place. These city bowls are massive. How did they dig the hole so

[00:03:42] deeply? It's deeper than you think. They're all on gigantic ball bearings so

[00:03:48] the balls can move in the quakes. Cole told him amused by the young

[00:03:53] man's enthusiasm. Have you seen them? He wondered with wide eyes as he sat down

[00:03:58] in the adjacent chair. I have a whole network of tunnels allows security to

[00:04:03] travel quickly from area to area. Plus, the tops closed during the storms

[00:04:09] or tornadoes, Cole explained. Johnny's neck craned as he gazed

[00:04:13] upward, imagining gigantic lids that could cover the entire city. That's

[00:04:19] crazy, he commented, standing back up. He went to the balcony trying to see

[00:04:25] down to the road, but all he could see were the roofs of other rooms. The

[00:04:30] tunnels provide an alternate escape route. That's right, Cole answered.

[00:04:35] Will we get to see inside the stadium bowl? Johnny asked. Not on this trip,

[00:04:39] Cole told him honestly, taking a sip of his drink. What's it look

[00:04:43] like? He wondered. You saw the glass outside that rises into the air.

[00:04:48] That bowl is not as big as the city sectors. The walls are lined with

[00:04:52] seating and private balconies for the elites. It's where they host

[00:04:56] government meetings and community events. That's awesome, Johnny commented.

[00:05:01] It really is, but it was built on the backs of many refugees, Cole

[00:05:05] explained solemnly, thinking about the vast number of people he saw

[00:05:09] fleeing the Ogallala. From inside the hotel room, a knocking came at

[00:05:15] the door. Cole rose from his chair heading inside to answer it. Johnny

[00:05:20] followed on his heels. As Cole approached the door, a mercenary

[00:05:25] soldier declared, Sir, General McClintock will see you and his son

[00:05:29] now. Upset by the delay, Johnny commented, it's about damn time.

[00:05:35] Cole snapped him a corrective look before turning to the soldier

[00:05:38] and commanding lead the way soldier. They traversed the hotel section

[00:05:43] and followed the curve of the bowl around to an office building.

[00:05:47] Entering a large busy room with mercenary forces operations, the

[00:05:51] noise of typing talking and beeping filled their ears. The

[00:05:56] soldier led them to a hallway that broke off in the back. The

[00:05:59] hall opened into a small waiting room at the end, and the

[00:06:02] mercenary soldier knocked a couple of times on the door before

[00:06:05] opening it. Major Burgess and your son, sir, the soldier

[00:06:10] announced to them. General McClintock rose from his chair and

[00:06:13] approached. He shook Johnny's hand formally, greeting him.

[00:06:17] Johnny, so good to see you son. Hi, Dad, Johnny replied. Do

[00:06:22] you mind waiting outside until we're done? McClintock asked

[00:06:25] his son. Completely deflated by his request, Johnny

[00:06:28] mumbled, whatever before leaving. Paying no notice to the

[00:06:33] boy's attitude, McClintock answered, Thanks, son. Major

[00:06:37] Burgess, please come in and sit down. Johnny left closing the

[00:06:41] door behind himself. Focusing on McClintock's desk, Cole

[00:06:45] noticed another man sitting there. Major General Barnes, I

[00:06:48] wasn't expecting to see you here today. These are delicate

[00:06:52] topics we speak of here today. The entire leadership of our

[00:06:56] forces needs to agree or we are lost, Barnes replied

[00:06:59] honestly. With the collapse of the Ogallala, you're going to

[00:07:03] be a very busy man, Major McClintock commented. As the

[00:07:08] major general says, these are delicate matters that just got

[00:07:11] more complicated in more ways than one, Cole explained.

[00:07:16] McClintock nodded at him. I heard that William Baker was

[00:07:19] killed. Was it the feds? Cole shook his head

[00:07:22] negatively. No, his death was completely accidental. He was

[00:07:28] killed by a refugee woman. How? McClintock inquired.

[00:07:33] A soldier uncovered a trap door. When he opened it, William

[00:07:36] had the drop on the soldier. The woman was part of the

[00:07:39] Federal Rescue Squad. She grabbed the soldier's sidearm

[00:07:43] and killed William. It's a damn shame. He was starting to

[00:07:47] win a lot of cases and sway a lot of public opinions. The

[00:07:52] woman that did it is the lone survivor, the one from

[00:07:55] the story all the refugees pass around. They call her the

[00:07:58] savior of the refugees, Cole explained. Barnes smiled

[00:08:02] widely at Cole. You're not buying into that crap. It's

[00:08:05] just a story. Even if it was just a story. It's the

[00:08:10] momentum of the story we need now more than ever. But she

[00:08:14] is much more than a story. I've met her. She is

[00:08:18] everything the story says she is and so much more.

[00:08:22] Things are only going to get worse with the Oglala

[00:08:24] disaster. McClintock wondered, what do you plan on doing with

[00:08:28] her? She's strong enough to rally the people Cole explained

[00:08:32] passionately. stirring on his words McClintock look

[00:08:35] confused. How can we get our voice out there without

[00:08:38] William? His supporters are already questioning their

[00:08:42] loyalty and the majority of them just got scattered

[00:08:45] throughout the refugee camps. There's more to the story

[00:08:49] than what you're telling us Barnes pressed. Williams

[00:08:52] daughter has been arrested. She's being held in Las Vegas

[00:08:55] Cole informed him. I know you care for her verges, but

[00:08:59] we can't do anything for her. Or there will be a war

[00:09:03] for sure McClintock warned. Las Vegas will be flooded

[00:09:06] with incoming and the processing will be chaotic. What

[00:09:10] if I could arrange to get her out without our

[00:09:12] involvement being known Cole suggested. If you get

[00:09:16] caught we can't go to bat for you Barnes warned. You

[00:09:20] both know we have to make a move sooner or later. Our

[00:09:23] force is strong enough to stand against them Cole

[00:09:25] encouraged him. Finally, something I agree with. We

[00:09:30] should use the Oglala's chaos to free the Appalachian

[00:09:33] area first. The feds are going to be distracted by a

[00:09:36] flood of people. Now is our time to move Barnes

[00:09:39] stated. McClintock's face scowled. The Appalachian

[00:09:43] Islands has a line of battleships that patrol it.

[00:09:47] Only in the south, the Mississippi Sea is too

[00:09:49] shallow in the north Barnes commented. You two are

[00:09:53] already talking about all out war. Why not let

[00:09:56] Erica try first Cole interjected surprised by the

[00:10:00] direction the conversation had taken. I don't want

[00:10:03] another civil war in this country McClintock said

[00:10:06] standing from his desk and walking towards the

[00:10:08] window. He paused for a moment staring out

[00:10:11] before he turned back towards the men. But we all

[00:10:14] agree something must be done. At least check her

[00:10:18] out before you dismiss the idea Cole suggested.

[00:10:22] Barnes took a deep breath admitting I suppose we

[00:10:25] can give it that let's reconvene tomorrow and

[00:10:28] we'll make the decision then you two are

[00:10:30] dismissed McClintock told them sitting back down

[00:10:33] at his desk and flipping through a stack of

[00:10:35] papers. Cole strolled towards the door

[00:10:38] letting Barnes leave before him. Hesitating at the

[00:10:42] door Cole commented Sir your son is waiting. Tell

[00:10:46] him I'll be out in a moment he declared without

[00:10:48] looking up knowing how disappointed Johnny would

[00:10:51] be Cole suggested. Do you want him to come in

[00:10:55] sir? Perturbed by his insistence McClintock

[00:10:58] looked up at Cole and said bluntly I'll be

[00:11:00] there in a moment Verges. Yes sir Cole

[00:11:04] answered as he left. Johnny stood up looking

[00:11:07] expectantly at Cole. Does he want me to go in?

[00:11:11] No he said he'll be out in a minute Cole

[00:11:13] answered trying to keep his voice neutral. An

[00:11:16] angry look adorned Johnny's face and he

[00:11:18] looked to the ground slightly shaking his

[00:11:20] head. Whatever I'm going back to the room

[00:11:24] concerned Cole suggested just wait for him.

[00:11:27] Johnny's eyes met Cole and he declared

[00:11:29] finitely no Verges I'm done waiting for him.

[00:11:33] Don't you understand that's why I left I'm

[00:11:37] done. An awkward silence persisted for a

[00:11:40] moment as Cole chose his next course of action.

[00:11:44] Then let's go back to the room and have a

[00:11:46] beer he suggested to the young man putting

[00:11:48] an arm around him. Johnny grinned from ear

[00:11:51] to ear as he replied sounds good to me.

[00:11:55] It was the following day before General

[00:11:57] McClintock called for his son. Johnny went

[00:12:00] to breakfast with him and Cole sat

[00:12:02] pondering the odd relationship. He felt so

[00:12:05] at peace on the hotel balcony amongst the

[00:12:07] flowers and the dancing birds. Leaning

[00:12:10] towards the adjacent lower patio he

[00:12:13] listened to a mother scolding her son.

[00:12:16] He had left without her permission. Cole

[00:12:18] could ascertain that his father had

[00:12:20] promised him a day at the park and he

[00:12:23] had to go to work instead. His mother

[00:12:26] had to do laundry and couldn't take him

[00:12:28] so the boy left alone. Tears were shed

[00:12:31] but the boy apologized for his

[00:12:33] behavior in the end and his mother

[00:12:35] hugged him tightly. They left to go get

[00:12:38] some feel better ice cream. Cole

[00:12:40] reflected on the interaction. Johnny's

[00:12:43] mother had been killed in the quake.

[00:12:45] Cole had been the one to console him.

[00:12:48] Cole heard the front door and Johnny

[00:12:49] called major are you out here? I sure

[00:12:52] am Cole replied walking back in the

[00:12:54] sliding glass door. My father is waiting

[00:12:57] in the lobby for you he declared flatly.

[00:13:00] Did you guys have a nice breakfast Cole

[00:13:02] wondered? It was good to spend time

[00:13:04] together he answered. That sounds pretty

[00:13:07] lackluster Cole noted. It was Johnny

[00:13:10] said with a sigh as he flopped down on

[00:13:12] the sofa. He's trying Johnny Cole

[00:13:15] assured him. Johnny rolled his eyes

[00:13:17] replying that's what you always tell

[00:13:19] me. He is Cole assured him

[00:13:22] straightening his uniform. I got to

[00:13:24] go we'll talk about this later.

[00:13:26] Whatever Johnny mumbled as Cole left

[00:13:29] out the door. Cole found McClintock

[00:13:31] waiting for him in the lobby. Good

[00:13:33] morning Verges. McClintock greeted him

[00:13:36] as Cole approached. General McClintock

[00:13:38] sir Cole responded. Walk with me to my

[00:13:41] office McClintock commanded. Yes sir

[00:13:43] Cole agreed. As they walked

[00:13:46] McClintock explained in a hush voice.

[00:13:49] I looked into your refugee Erica

[00:13:51] Moore. It wasn't hard to track her

[00:13:53] on the federal database. What did you

[00:13:56] find out Cole responded quietly. Before

[00:13:59] the quake she lived in Georgetown

[00:14:01] California. When you cross reference

[00:14:04] that information to the missing

[00:14:06] persons database a couple named Earl

[00:14:09] and Kay Moore in Minnesota is looking

[00:14:12] for them. They live right by our

[00:14:14] base. Cole thought about the

[00:14:17] information and exclaimed I know him

[00:14:20] he's a veterinarian. He told me

[00:14:22] about the family he lost in

[00:14:23] California. I heard so many stories

[00:14:26] of missing families at that point. I

[00:14:28] didn't put it together. That means

[00:14:31] Erica's husband is a landowner

[00:14:33] making Erica a landowner and their

[00:14:36] family should not have been

[00:14:37] infertile. How does the camp

[00:14:40] director not know this Cole wondered.

[00:14:42] Maybe they do as long as they're in

[00:14:44] the camp who would know Cole shook

[00:14:47] his head in surprise. No one I know

[00:14:50] them both and didn't put it

[00:14:51] together. He kicked at the ground.

[00:14:54] Geez how could I have missed that. And

[00:14:56] I was just talking to her. I could

[00:14:58] have brought her family back then.

[00:15:00] The kids were still in Vegas right

[00:15:02] McClintock answered. They were

[00:15:04] a cool responded. He paused for

[00:15:06] a moment thinking about his words.

[00:15:09] You think the feds would hurt them.

[00:15:11] I know they would getting her out

[00:15:13] is going to be tricky. McClintock

[00:15:15] stated they walked on in

[00:15:17] silence for a moment. Look

[00:15:19] for just I don't want the rest

[00:15:21] of the leadership to know this yet.

[00:15:23] It will put their lives in even

[00:15:24] greater danger if it gets out. I'm

[00:15:26] going to convince them to go with

[00:15:28] the Erica plan. If that fails we

[00:15:31] go to war. Let's hope it works

[00:15:33] then Cole commented wondering how

[00:15:35] he could pull this off.

[00:15:38] What if I told you you could

[00:18:29] Yeah.

[00:18:30] Always a ball fire as well.

[00:18:37] Well why I'll be on my best

[00:18:38] behavior for the show.

[00:18:44] It's too late.

[00:18:45] Yeah it's already over.

[00:18:46] We're already remembering things

[00:18:48] for prepper camp now.

[00:18:52] All right.

[00:18:55] Yeah yeah.

[00:18:57] All right.

[00:18:57] So just do a little catch up.

[00:20:03] nothing but razzle each other

[00:20:05] up and not teaching and

[00:20:06] learning and having a good

[00:20:08] time.

[00:20:11] You laughing at that one

[00:20:12] there.

[00:20:13] Chan I'm going to be not at

[00:20:15] all.

[00:20:15] I'm going to be right next

[00:20:16] to Mr. T.J. Swenson all

[00:20:19] weekend so I can only imagine

[00:20:21] the torture that I'm going to

[00:20:23] endure this this time around.

[00:20:28] Mr. Goose egg.

[00:20:30] So yeah.

[00:20:32] Let's see on our verges

[00:20:33] episode we he was flying out

[00:20:37] over the old Lala was the

[00:20:39] old Lala collapse first time

[00:20:42] that I've really brought the

[00:20:43] audience in front and center

[00:20:45] on what that collapse look

[00:20:46] like.

[00:20:47] We didn't really see it in

[00:20:48] Erica's books.

[00:20:49] We heard about it but he

[00:20:51] got first at you know birds

[00:20:53] eye view of looking at the

[00:20:55] destruction there and they

[00:20:57] end up in the capital city

[00:20:58] quite a different place from

[00:21:00] the destruction that he saw.

[00:21:01] You know it's this rebuilt

[00:21:04] place and Nicole you'd have

[00:21:06] to you'd have to learn

[00:21:07] about it.

[00:21:08] It's got the it's like these

[00:21:10] huge bowls they built into

[00:21:11] the earth so they can

[00:21:12] rotate with the earthquakes

[00:21:15] pretty pretty neat little

[00:21:16] concept but yeah you know

[00:21:19] protecting your home then

[00:21:21] then the tops can close down

[00:21:22] if there's like a tornado

[00:21:23] that comes through or what

[00:21:24] not.

[00:21:25] So excellent.

[00:21:27] Like when can we build

[00:21:28] those things right.

[00:21:29] Right.

[00:21:31] And then verges finds out

[00:21:33] that Erica is actually a

[00:21:34] landowner so she's been in

[00:21:36] this FEMA camp for nine

[00:21:37] years when she shouldn't

[00:21:38] have been the age of 13

[00:21:41] they infertile eyes

[00:21:41] everybody.

[00:21:42] So she has two children

[00:21:44] that have been infertile

[00:21:44] eyes when they shouldn't

[00:21:45] have been and so this is

[00:21:47] a pretty big scandal in

[00:21:48] the changing earth world and

[00:21:50] that kind of it's kind of

[00:21:51] what starts a lot of gears

[00:21:53] and emotion there.

[00:21:54] So coming into the end

[00:21:57] of the book but today

[00:21:59] we're talking about homes

[00:22:01] we're talking about

[00:22:02] protecting your home.

[00:22:04] There's a lot of threats

[00:22:05] coming to our homes right

[00:22:06] now.

[00:22:08] I was telling you guys in

[00:22:08] the green room there is

[00:22:10] like five houses on my

[00:22:11] road getting new roofs

[00:22:13] today from all the storms

[00:22:14] and that's just on my

[00:22:15] road.

[00:22:16] I can't even imagine how

[00:22:18] many homes in the state

[00:22:20] of Texas are receiving

[00:22:22] new roofs right now

[00:22:23] because we had like all

[00:22:24] of those huge storms

[00:22:25] that came through before

[00:22:26] the hurricane even did

[00:22:29] and then it's a mess.

[00:22:34] And then we had come

[00:22:36] on I just wrote the

[00:22:37] change in Earth News

[00:22:38] and Debbie right.

[00:22:40] Debbie comes up the

[00:22:41] shoreline little Debbie.

[00:22:43] How much damage did

[00:22:44] little Debbie do all

[00:22:46] along there.

[00:22:47] We got wildfires burning

[00:22:48] in California.

[00:22:49] You know how long can

[00:22:50] we just continue to

[00:22:51] rebuild and just pretend

[00:22:53] like nothing's going on.

[00:22:54] We're not going to change

[00:22:55] anything.

[00:22:56] And then there's another

[00:22:57] major threat to our

[00:22:58] homes that comes in

[00:22:59] the form of chaos.

[00:23:01] So we brought Nicole

[00:23:02] on the show today to

[00:23:03] talk to you a little

[00:23:04] bit about protecting

[00:23:06] your home from both

[00:23:07] avenues.

[00:23:08] And I'm not kind of

[00:23:10] just open it up to

[00:23:10] you Nicole and then pick

[00:23:11] your brain as we go.

[00:23:14] Sounds great.

[00:23:15] All right.

[00:23:17] So we are going to

[00:23:18] look at kind of the

[00:23:21] criminal element to

[00:23:22] start with here.

[00:23:23] So we want to know

[00:23:25] maybe our homes are

[00:23:26] vulnerable now and

[00:23:28] maybe they're not right

[00:23:29] bad guys take advantage

[00:23:31] of opportunity.

[00:23:33] So we've got kind of

[00:23:33] two that we're

[00:23:34] looking at.

[00:23:35] You've got the ones

[00:23:36] that come in the daytime.

[00:23:37] They've scoped you out.

[00:23:38] They know you're not

[00:23:39] home.

[00:23:40] They know your neighbors

[00:23:40] aren't watching.

[00:23:41] They just want your stuff

[00:23:42] in and out no contact

[00:23:43] with you.

[00:23:44] Right.

[00:23:44] Right.

[00:23:45] And then we've got the

[00:23:46] the security guards that

[00:23:46] comes at night.

[00:23:47] Right.

[00:23:48] And they are bold

[00:23:49] because they know

[00:23:50] your home.

[00:23:51] They might know what

[00:23:52] security you have in

[00:23:53] place and they're

[00:23:55] willing to risk it

[00:23:56] for whatever it is

[00:23:57] that is inside your

[00:23:58] home that is so

[00:23:59] valuable and it

[00:24:00] might be you or

[00:24:01] your spouse or your

[00:24:02] children that

[00:24:03] they're after.

[00:24:06] But at the end of

[00:24:06] the day we want our

[00:24:08] homes to be our

[00:24:10] safe refuge.

[00:24:11] We want to go in

[00:24:13] and close the door

[00:24:14] and come down from

[00:24:15] that state of constant

[00:24:16] alertness.

[00:24:18] Right.

[00:24:18] Because we need to

[00:24:19] relax and recharge

[00:24:21] and have that peace

[00:24:22] in our home.

[00:24:23] You have to have

[00:24:24] that that safe space

[00:24:25] to like you say

[00:24:27] provide that peace

[00:24:28] of mind.

[00:24:29] You can't live on

[00:24:30] that high edge

[00:24:31] all the time.

[00:24:32] It'd be like we're

[00:24:32] in a war zone

[00:24:34] constantly and it

[00:24:35] doesn't do good things

[00:24:36] for a psyche.

[00:24:37] Yeah.

[00:24:38] Or our physical bodies.

[00:24:39] Yeah.

[00:24:40] It makes it's toll.

[00:24:41] So we need to come in

[00:24:43] and when we close

[00:24:44] our doors.

[00:24:45] Right.

[00:24:45] We need to have that

[00:24:46] peace.

[00:24:47] So let's start with

[00:24:48] our our doors right

[00:24:50] the perimeter of our

[00:24:51] home.

[00:24:52] Right.

[00:24:52] So have have good

[00:24:53] locks right.

[00:24:54] That's kind of the

[00:24:55] basics of it.

[00:24:58] Your deadbolt.

[00:25:00] So some deadbolts

[00:25:01] are easy to kick in.

[00:25:03] Some are easy to pick.

[00:25:05] If you want to stick

[00:25:06] with basic keys

[00:25:07] you can get something

[00:25:08] like a double key

[00:25:09] deadbolt right.

[00:25:10] It takes the key on

[00:25:10] the inside and on

[00:25:12] the outside.

[00:25:12] Oh huh.

[00:25:13] You know to lock it

[00:25:14] or unlock it.

[00:25:16] Don't leave the key

[00:25:17] on the inside if you

[00:25:18] have a double key

[00:25:18] deadbolt right.

[00:25:19] Because if you have a door

[00:25:20] that has those little

[00:25:21] windows on the side.

[00:25:23] Yup.

[00:25:23] Tink easy to break.

[00:25:25] They've turned the key

[00:25:26] but don't hide it

[00:25:27] because if you need

[00:25:28] to get out in the

[00:25:28] middle of the night

[00:25:29] you need to find it.

[00:25:32] Fair.

[00:25:32] We can get electronic

[00:25:34] locks for our doors

[00:25:34] right.

[00:25:35] So many people have

[00:25:35] these smart box

[00:25:37] and they're getting

[00:25:38] smarter and smarter.

[00:25:40] Some of them there's

[00:25:41] a company called Blockly

[00:25:43] and there's other companies

[00:25:44] out there too.

[00:25:46] But the keypad is

[00:25:48] electronic and it changes

[00:25:49] each time it pops up

[00:25:50] for you.

[00:25:51] So the person across

[00:25:52] the street who's watching

[00:25:54] maybe they memorize

[00:25:55] you know the motion

[00:25:57] of your fingers

[00:25:58] but it's different

[00:25:59] each time.

[00:26:00] So it prevents somebody

[00:26:01] from recording that

[00:26:03] and kind of finding

[00:26:03] out what your password is.

[00:26:05] Now be mindful

[00:26:06] anytime we get super

[00:26:08] into technology

[00:26:09] right everything is hackable

[00:26:12] when we're starting to talk.

[00:26:13] That's what I was going

[00:26:13] to ask you about.

[00:26:14] I'm like do you trust that?

[00:26:15] Do you like that?

[00:26:17] Yeah.

[00:26:17] So it is an option.

[00:26:19] It is a layer of security.

[00:26:21] It can do a fingerprint.

[00:26:22] It has an actual key.

[00:26:24] Some people love technology.

[00:26:26] Some people still want

[00:26:28] I just want my keys

[00:26:29] and my dead bolts

[00:26:30] and my chains on my door

[00:26:32] or whatever your situation is

[00:26:33] and whatever you feel

[00:26:35] the most comfortable with.

[00:26:36] That is what you need to do

[00:26:37] but let's start with

[00:26:38] the locks on our doors

[00:26:40] and make sure that we have them

[00:26:41] and that we use them.

[00:26:43] Yeah, our doors are

[00:26:45] our most vulnerable spot

[00:26:46] right followed by our windows.

[00:26:50] OK, so easy to break

[00:26:52] through a window.

[00:26:53] So if you want to secure

[00:26:54] your windows,

[00:26:55] we are not trying

[00:26:56] to be Fort Knox,

[00:26:57] but we do want our homes

[00:26:58] to be secure.

[00:26:59] So there's a film you can get

[00:27:01] at any home good store

[00:27:05] Amazon.

[00:27:06] And it's just a film like tint.

[00:27:08] You can get clear tinted.

[00:27:09] You get some pretty ones.

[00:27:10] You spray water on your window.

[00:27:12] You put this film on there

[00:27:13] and it's just shatterproof film.

[00:27:16] OK, that's cool.

[00:27:17] Yeah, if somebody hit it

[00:27:19] with a rock or a crowbar.

[00:27:21] But that would also protect

[00:27:23] in like with hail

[00:27:24] and stuff like that,

[00:27:25] because the hail has been

[00:27:26] getting more and more severe.

[00:27:27] I mean, I'm not going to say

[00:27:28] it's going to present,

[00:27:29] you know, protect

[00:27:30] against baseball size,

[00:27:32] but it's been getting

[00:27:33] very severe hailstorms lately.

[00:27:35] Had a lot in Texas.

[00:27:37] Yeah.

[00:27:38] Yeah, it's oddly large hail in Texas.

[00:27:41] Mm hmm.

[00:27:42] Yeah, the golf ball size

[00:27:43] did not far from here.

[00:27:45] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:27:46] Right.

[00:27:46] So the glass itself will break,

[00:27:49] but it will hold.

[00:27:50] And I will tell you

[00:27:51] if you want something tested,

[00:27:54] you find yourself a Marine

[00:27:56] and you say, hey,

[00:27:56] this is unbreakable.

[00:27:58] I love that.

[00:27:59] So that's what I did.

[00:28:00] Right.

[00:28:01] I got some windows

[00:28:02] and I put this film on it

[00:28:03] and I said, hey,

[00:28:05] let me see if you can

[00:28:06] break through this.

[00:28:06] Right.

[00:28:07] He threw rocks

[00:28:09] at one at a separate one.

[00:28:11] He hit it with a hammer.

[00:28:12] And on a third one,

[00:28:14] he used one of the glass breaks

[00:28:16] like you would use

[00:28:16] to get out of your car.

[00:28:17] OK, yep.

[00:28:18] Right.

[00:28:19] Glass all broke,

[00:28:21] but every one of them held together.

[00:28:23] It is not impenetrable,

[00:28:24] but it's going to take somebody

[00:28:26] some time and some effort.

[00:28:27] And by that time,

[00:28:28] you have a few moments

[00:28:30] to wake up and see what is going on.

[00:28:32] Yeah, by German shepherds on it by then.

[00:28:35] Right.

[00:28:35] Every layer of security

[00:28:37] we have gives us some extra time

[00:28:39] to wake up and be able to respond

[00:28:42] because we want to have a good,

[00:28:43] clear response to what is happening

[00:28:46] instead of a sleep induced.

[00:28:48] Right.

[00:28:48] I just woke up

[00:28:49] and now I'm reacting

[00:28:50] and who knows what's going to happen?

[00:28:52] Right.

[00:28:52] Right.

[00:28:52] You need some muscle memory kicking in.

[00:28:55] Right.

[00:28:56] So another layer we do, right?

[00:28:58] We've got our windows

[00:28:59] and our doors, right?

[00:29:00] Now let's get some lighting outside.

[00:29:02] Right.

[00:29:02] Let's get some kind of a motion sensor

[00:29:04] where that light's going to come on.

[00:29:06] Mm hmm.

[00:29:07] And it's just going to alert us

[00:29:08] that, hey, something has come

[00:29:11] within a particular vicinity.

[00:29:13] Right.

[00:29:13] And you can put them out.

[00:29:14] You can put it on your fence.

[00:29:15] You can put it on your shed.

[00:29:16] You can put it way

[00:29:17] at the end of your driveway.

[00:29:19] It's just an extra layer

[00:29:21] that alerts you

[00:29:23] and maybe you get up and investigate.

[00:29:24] Maybe it's just the deer.

[00:29:25] But OK, I'd rather get up

[00:29:27] and and know that this little family

[00:29:28] of deer came through

[00:29:30] than know that I dismissed it

[00:29:33] and a little group of bad guys

[00:29:35] was coming through.

[00:29:35] Right.

[00:29:36] Or like a bear or predator

[00:29:37] or something like that as well.

[00:29:39] Right. Right.

[00:29:40] People who live out in the country

[00:29:42] need to know if there's

[00:29:42] other predators coming

[00:29:44] and they need to go out

[00:29:45] and protect their animals.

[00:29:46] Yep.

[00:29:47] So our outside lighting

[00:29:49] is just another layer.

[00:29:52] Let it come on.

[00:29:54] Making sure the outside of our homes

[00:29:57] is clean up, right?

[00:29:58] We want we don't want to give

[00:30:01] bad guys anywhere that they can hide.

[00:30:03] OK, so you can have shrubbery

[00:30:05] around your windows, right?

[00:30:07] Some nice little spiky stuff

[00:30:08] that's going to deter somebody

[00:30:09] who tried to crawl through that window.

[00:30:11] But we don't want it so high

[00:30:13] that they could hide behind it

[00:30:15] and then slide in our door

[00:30:17] as we've left our door open

[00:30:18] because we're hauling things

[00:30:19] to and from our vehicles.

[00:30:21] Oh, fair.

[00:30:23] Right. So be careful

[00:30:25] in your landscaping.

[00:30:26] Have some good shrubbery

[00:30:27] and we want that.

[00:30:28] But make sure that nobody

[00:30:31] can hide in it or behind it

[00:30:33] and then surprise us that way.

[00:30:35] Right. Good. Good call.

[00:30:38] Right. So pretend you are a bad guy

[00:30:40] and do this with your neighbors.

[00:30:42] Walk around your houses

[00:30:43] and see how would I break in

[00:30:46] if I wanted to break into this house?

[00:30:49] Right. And then figure out ways

[00:30:51] to secure that

[00:30:53] and make that a little bit

[00:30:54] more difficult.

[00:30:56] Right. I mean, remember,

[00:30:57] we want to be able to get out

[00:30:59] in an emergency.

[00:31:00] Right. We don't want to be trapped

[00:31:01] in our homes.

[00:31:02] So the film on the window

[00:31:04] goes on the inside

[00:31:05] so you can just peel it off

[00:31:07] if you need to break your window

[00:31:08] and get out. Great call.

[00:31:10] Yeah, right.

[00:31:11] But somebody from the outside

[00:31:12] is going to have a much harder time

[00:31:15] trying to get through that.

[00:31:17] Yeah. And like the locks

[00:31:18] are going to be on the inside

[00:31:19] to the windows as well.

[00:31:20] So you can always, you know,

[00:31:21] you'd be able to slide it up.

[00:31:23] Yes.

[00:31:24] That's a good tip, though.

[00:31:26] Yes. Right.

[00:31:27] So animals, you mentioned that, right?

[00:31:29] Your dogs are going to alert.

[00:31:32] Most of my dogs are.

[00:31:33] I've got a little old Yorkie

[00:31:35] who is deaf and will sleep

[00:31:36] through anything.

[00:31:36] But I do have a boxer

[00:31:38] that will wake up

[00:31:39] and he's got a nice deep bark.

[00:31:42] You know, anything funny

[00:31:43] going around.

[00:31:44] But lots of people have,

[00:31:45] you know, outdoor chickens,

[00:31:47] donkeys, guinea hens,

[00:31:50] you know, anything that is going to

[00:31:51] wake up in the morning

[00:31:52] that is going to wake up

[00:31:54] and make some noise.

[00:31:55] If something unusual,

[00:31:57] you know, comes through their path.

[00:32:00] And hopefully that's enough

[00:32:01] to deter somebody.

[00:32:02] But if not,

[00:32:03] it's enough to give you a few minutes

[00:32:05] to gather your thoughts

[00:32:07] and put your response into action.

[00:32:10] Right.

[00:32:12] Right.

[00:32:12] So love our animals.

[00:32:13] Now be mindful.

[00:32:15] Animals can be taken out

[00:32:17] with a can of wasp spray.

[00:32:20] Right.

[00:32:20] It's a neurotoxin.

[00:32:21] So they can spray that far away

[00:32:24] right in that dog's face.

[00:32:26] And that dog is no longer

[00:32:27] a threat to them.

[00:32:30] So they are a great layer

[00:32:33] and they are going to take one

[00:32:34] in protecting us.

[00:32:35] But just know that that is an easy way

[00:32:37] that somebody is going to be able

[00:32:38] to defeat our animals

[00:32:40] attacking them.

[00:32:41] And that but that gives you extra time.

[00:32:44] It does. Right.

[00:32:45] And we're all about giving us

[00:32:47] extra extra seconds

[00:32:49] that we can to make sure that we

[00:32:52] are prepared and we can respond.

[00:32:55] OK, so and in that response,

[00:32:57] right, the whole family

[00:32:59] needs to know how we're responding.

[00:33:02] Right.

[00:33:02] If suddenly somebody makes it through,

[00:33:04] you know, all of our outside defenses

[00:33:07] and gets in the house.

[00:33:09] Right.

[00:33:09] Do the kids in the home

[00:33:11] know how to respond?

[00:33:13] Do they know their part

[00:33:14] and where they're supposed to go?

[00:33:15] If you hear that door get kicked in

[00:33:16] and there's some kind of chaos,

[00:33:18] right, I need my kids to know.

[00:33:21] Yeah.

[00:33:21] Where they are supposed to go

[00:33:23] and go there so I can engage

[00:33:25] this threat and not have to worry

[00:33:27] about accidentally

[00:33:29] getting one of my kids in the process.

[00:33:31] Right.

[00:33:31] No, and it happens too.

[00:33:33] You get you get that adrenaline pump

[00:33:35] in everything going on.

[00:33:37] I know just playing airsoft,

[00:33:38] you know, one of my dogs

[00:33:39] has come up on me before

[00:33:41] and I'm like, oh, well,

[00:33:42] now you're a dead dog.

[00:33:43] You know, right.

[00:33:44] Yeah.

[00:33:45] So that's really,

[00:33:47] really important point,

[00:33:49] especially where like areas converge,

[00:33:51] where you would like

[00:33:51] be coming for each other.

[00:33:53] You know, like I'm going to go

[00:33:54] find out is my child OK?

[00:33:56] They're coming towards you.

[00:33:57] Those convergence areas,

[00:33:59] you know, got to have code words,

[00:34:01] got to they got to know

[00:34:02] where they hide out till

[00:34:03] you give the all clear.

[00:34:05] It's a great.

[00:34:05] Yes.

[00:34:06] Yeah, they've got to know that

[00:34:08] and I've got to know

[00:34:08] that they are there

[00:34:09] because I have to focus

[00:34:11] on taking out this bad guy

[00:34:13] and I just need to know

[00:34:15] that they're in their safe place.

[00:34:16] And not going to get hurt.

[00:34:18] And that helps me know

[00:34:20] where I can engage this person at.

[00:34:22] Do I need to funnel them

[00:34:24] to a particular spot?

[00:34:26] Do I need to take a knee and aim up?

[00:34:29] If, you know, I have a firearm, right?

[00:34:32] Yeah.

[00:34:32] All of that into play with

[00:34:34] where is this person going to be?

[00:34:36] Right.

[00:34:36] My son's my other son's

[00:34:38] rooms on the second floor

[00:34:39] don't want to shoot up

[00:34:40] through the ceiling.

[00:34:41] You know, yeah.

[00:34:42] Great point.

[00:34:44] Yep.

[00:34:45] So we know the inside of our homes

[00:34:48] better than anybody else.

[00:34:51] Right.

[00:34:51] You can get up in the middle of the night.

[00:34:53] You can go to the kitchen

[00:34:55] and you can have that quiet snack

[00:34:56] that you've hidden somewhere

[00:34:58] all by yourself.

[00:34:59] Right.

[00:35:00] And nobody is going to ask you

[00:35:01] for a bite of that.

[00:35:02] And then you can go back to bed

[00:35:04] and nobody is the wiser.

[00:35:06] Right.

[00:35:06] You don't have to turn on any lights.

[00:35:07] You have to do any of that stuff.

[00:35:12] So if somebody comes in,

[00:35:14] they don't know

[00:35:15] your furniture layout.

[00:35:17] You know, they don't know if, you know,

[00:35:19] that everybody kicks that

[00:35:20] that end table when they come in.

[00:35:22] Right.

[00:35:22] That makes a lot of noise.

[00:35:23] Oh, huh.

[00:35:24] You where they are.

[00:35:26] Right.

[00:35:26] And you can arrange your furniture

[00:35:27] so that they are kind of funneled

[00:35:30] into a place where you are

[00:35:32] then going to engage them.

[00:35:35] So as we know,

[00:35:37] you know, the inside of our homes,

[00:35:39] right, that is something

[00:35:40] we need to protect.

[00:35:41] So be very careful

[00:35:43] of who you let into your home.

[00:35:45] Yes.

[00:35:46] When someone comes up

[00:35:47] and they're like, hey,

[00:35:48] let me offer you this great deal.

[00:35:50] Let me see your windows.

[00:35:52] Right.

[00:35:53] If you let them come into your home

[00:35:54] and chat with you,

[00:35:55] they are now scoping out

[00:35:57] your floor plan.

[00:35:59] The other one that I've heard too

[00:36:01] is like when they're building track

[00:36:02] homes or have like model homes,

[00:36:05] they can go into like, oh, go in.

[00:36:07] Maybe somebody's home is for sale

[00:36:10] and it's the same model as,

[00:36:11] you know, every third house is that model.

[00:36:14] Then they know the layout of your house,

[00:36:17] even though they've never

[00:36:18] been in there before.

[00:36:21] Right.

[00:36:22] So your furniture

[00:36:23] layout is your one.

[00:36:25] Yeah.

[00:36:26] Personal,

[00:36:28] you know, defense against

[00:36:30] how are they going to navigate

[00:36:32] through that in the dark?

[00:36:33] Right, because we're not going

[00:36:34] to turn on lights

[00:36:34] to figure out what's going on.

[00:36:37] We just need to know

[00:36:38] how our home is laid out

[00:36:39] and we're comfortable with that.

[00:36:42] Right.

[00:36:42] So be careful,

[00:36:43] be careful who you let in.

[00:36:45] I agree with that.

[00:36:47] Right.

[00:36:47] A home security system

[00:36:49] is really an important

[00:36:52] layer in that.

[00:36:54] Right.

[00:36:54] And you can build

[00:36:56] your own these days.

[00:36:57] And of course, there's companies.

[00:36:58] We know who they are.

[00:36:59] Right.

[00:36:59] And they'll either

[00:37:01] charge you a bunch for monitoring

[00:37:03] and give you a bunch of free stuff

[00:37:04] or they'll charge you for the stuff

[00:37:05] and give you a discount

[00:37:07] on the monitoring.

[00:37:08] Mm hmm.

[00:37:09] But typically there is,

[00:37:11] you know, one control panel.

[00:37:14] And tall people out there,

[00:37:16] I'm talking to you, right?

[00:37:18] Down where the shorter

[00:37:20] people in your home can reach it.

[00:37:23] Fair enough.

[00:37:25] Sarah, she was talking to me,

[00:37:26] not you.

[00:37:27] Yeah, yeah,

[00:37:28] I was agreeing.

[00:37:30] I was cheering.

[00:37:32] Right.

[00:37:32] Yeah, it needs to be

[00:37:34] where anybody can push

[00:37:36] those buttons

[00:37:37] and call for help.

[00:37:39] Right, because maybe you're busy

[00:37:40] and you do not have time

[00:37:42] to call 911.

[00:37:43] But we certainly need

[00:37:44] our great law enforcement guys

[00:37:46] to come and help us out.

[00:37:48] Right.

[00:37:49] So we're going to have

[00:37:50] all those sensors, cameras.

[00:37:53] Cameras are a great thing.

[00:37:54] Right.

[00:37:55] They let us see what's going on

[00:37:56] outside of our house.

[00:37:58] They can let you see

[00:37:59] what's going on inside your house.

[00:38:01] But again, if you can see it,

[00:38:04] it can be hacked

[00:38:05] and somebody else can see it.

[00:38:06] So be very careful

[00:38:08] inside your home

[00:38:09] where you put cameras.

[00:38:12] Yeah, we don't want

[00:38:13] we don't want somebody spying on you.

[00:38:15] You don't want somebody

[00:38:16] spying on your family

[00:38:18] and finding out who's home,

[00:38:20] who's not home.

[00:38:21] So I'm not a huge fan of them,

[00:38:23] but you do get an insurance

[00:38:25] discount to like

[00:38:26] our insurance agent.

[00:38:27] No,

[00:38:28] you do get a discount

[00:38:30] on your homeowners

[00:38:31] insurance for having

[00:38:33] what usually a closed

[00:38:35] circuit system as well as

[00:38:37] monitored system.

[00:38:39] So you can ask your insurance

[00:38:41] person about that.

[00:38:44] Yes, right.

[00:38:45] And so along with

[00:38:47] all of that

[00:38:49] just comes communication

[00:38:51] within our families,

[00:38:53] with our neighbors.

[00:38:55] Right.

[00:38:56] You should have a communication

[00:38:58] system set up where

[00:39:01] I say somebody's in your home

[00:39:02] and maybe your phone rings

[00:39:04] and they're like,

[00:39:04] answer that and

[00:39:06] and don't let anybody know

[00:39:07] that something is wrong.

[00:39:09] OK, well, maybe that

[00:39:10] calling is, you know,

[00:39:13] is a friend, right?

[00:39:14] And you're like

[00:39:14] and you answer it

[00:39:15] in a casual way,

[00:39:16] but a way that,

[00:39:17] you know, like.

[00:39:19] We have a code word.

[00:39:21] Right.

[00:39:22] Yeah.

[00:39:22] You know, like my son,

[00:39:24] I was like, how you doing?

[00:39:25] Yeah.

[00:39:25] Yeah.

[00:39:26] I'm like, if you're ever

[00:39:27] in a situation,

[00:39:28] you know, and you're

[00:39:28] with your friends or whatever

[00:39:29] and you want out of that

[00:39:30] situation, but you don't want

[00:39:31] to tell me, Mom,

[00:39:32] I want out of this situation.

[00:39:33] You say this word to me.

[00:39:36] Right.

[00:39:36] And I'll know.

[00:39:37] Yep.

[00:39:38] You've got to have that

[00:39:38] with your family.

[00:39:40] Have that with

[00:39:41] with some of your friends

[00:39:42] and your neighbors.

[00:39:43] So that way, if they

[00:39:45] hear that, then they can

[00:39:47] respond in a way that

[00:39:50] they know that you are

[00:39:52] in distress and they

[00:39:53] can send some help

[00:39:53] or maybe they're part of your

[00:39:55] your response team.

[00:39:57] Right.

[00:39:57] Maybe they hear the siren go off.

[00:40:01] They know what to do.

[00:40:03] So our also is a really big part

[00:40:06] like survival team.

[00:40:07] We have a code word

[00:40:08] for our survival team

[00:40:10] so that if, you know,

[00:40:12] you're already on edge

[00:40:13] and somebody comes walking up

[00:40:14] who's supposed to be there.

[00:40:16] But, you know, you get on edge.

[00:40:19] There's the code

[00:40:19] word for that as well

[00:40:20] so that, you know,

[00:40:22] they're your friend

[00:40:23] and you don't shoot them.

[00:40:24] You know, right.

[00:40:27] Yeah.

[00:40:27] So great segue into

[00:40:29] what do we do

[00:40:30] if somebody has gotten past

[00:40:32] all of our security

[00:40:34] and has entered our home, right?

[00:40:36] What are we going to then use

[00:40:38] to respond and defend ourselves?

[00:40:40] Right.

[00:40:41] So in America, firearms are

[00:40:44] one of our wonderful rights

[00:40:46] that we have.

[00:40:47] Amen.

[00:40:48] So whatever

[00:40:51] firearm you have for home

[00:40:53] defense, please make sure

[00:40:55] that everybody who might have

[00:40:57] to use it is capable

[00:40:59] of using it.

[00:41:01] If you have a big old

[00:41:02] 12 gauge shotgun

[00:41:03] and your wife is five feet tall,

[00:41:06] she might get one shot off

[00:41:08] with that.

[00:41:09] Right.

[00:41:09] Oh, come on.

[00:41:10] I could totally wreck that.

[00:41:13] Yeah.

[00:41:14] But firing it right.

[00:41:16] It's going to rock you back.

[00:41:17] Yep.

[00:41:17] Your follow up shot

[00:41:19] is going to take longer.

[00:41:21] Right.

[00:41:21] Fair enough.

[00:41:22] Maybe there's a better option.

[00:41:23] Right.

[00:41:24] There are some smaller

[00:41:24] shotguns out there.

[00:41:26] There's like half shells.

[00:41:28] Right.

[00:41:28] A shotgun is a great home

[00:41:29] defense weapon.

[00:41:30] But it needs to be appropriate

[00:41:32] for whoever might use it.

[00:41:33] I can see that.

[00:41:34] We also need to have

[00:41:36] if firearms are our option,

[00:41:38] whatever the plan, right?

[00:41:39] There's an intruder.

[00:41:40] Dad wakes up.

[00:41:41] He responds to the threat.

[00:41:43] Mom runs and secures the children.

[00:41:45] Is there a form of defense

[00:41:47] wherever they are going

[00:41:49] so that way she can defend them

[00:41:50] if somebody comes in?

[00:41:52] Do we have a safe with a handgun

[00:41:54] inside, you know,

[00:41:55] the kids room in the top

[00:41:57] of the closet

[00:41:58] so that she has a way

[00:42:00] to defend the kids when they get there

[00:42:01] or pepper spray

[00:42:03] or something at our safe location.

[00:42:06] So that way,

[00:42:07] if something happens to dad.

[00:42:10] Mom is still able to step up

[00:42:12] and offer some kind of defense.

[00:42:14] Right.

[00:42:14] And we've got to practice these things.

[00:42:18] True.

[00:42:19] Right.

[00:42:19] So in firearms, right,

[00:42:22] not everybody

[00:42:24] loves the idea

[00:42:25] of potentially killing somebody.

[00:42:27] So the market has definitely

[00:42:29] had a surge of less lethal firearms,

[00:42:32] right?

[00:42:32] That you can get them as handguns.

[00:42:33] You can get them as rifles.

[00:42:35] They shoot these pellets.

[00:42:37] So kind of like the size

[00:42:38] of a paintball pellet.

[00:42:39] Right.

[00:42:40] Some are plastic.

[00:42:41] Some are filled with pepper spray.

[00:42:44] Yep.

[00:42:45] They are going to hurt.

[00:42:46] OK, they will definitely deter

[00:42:48] somebody who is not determined.

[00:42:51] But a very determined person

[00:42:54] is not going to stop

[00:42:56] with one of those less lethal pellets.

[00:42:59] Right.

[00:42:59] And if they're wearing big baggy clothes,

[00:43:02] it is probably just going to bounce off.

[00:43:04] Yeah.

[00:43:05] So yeah, same with a taser.

[00:43:08] Yep.

[00:43:09] Yep.

[00:43:09] So it's an option

[00:43:11] and it just depends on on the threat

[00:43:14] that is coming through your door.

[00:43:17] Right.

[00:43:17] So with firearms,

[00:43:19] we want to make sure that we have ammunition

[00:43:22] that is not going to over penetrate,

[00:43:25] is not going to leave our home

[00:43:26] and potentially go into our neighbor's home.

[00:43:30] Right.

[00:43:30] Because we are legally responsible

[00:43:33] for anything that comes out

[00:43:34] of the end of our firearm.

[00:43:35] OK, so we've got hollow point rounds.

[00:43:38] Right.

[00:43:39] Those are excellent.

[00:43:40] They dump most of their energy inside the body.

[00:43:43] There's also a round called a frangible round

[00:43:46] and it is compressed graphite.

[00:43:48] It's meant as a training round for shooting steel.

[00:43:50] So it breaks apart and nothing flies back at you.

[00:43:53] But it is excellent for home defense

[00:43:56] because once it enters that body

[00:43:58] and it just shatters everywhere in there,

[00:44:01] they're not going anywhere.

[00:44:02] Yeah, it's not.

[00:44:03] It's not going anywhere.

[00:44:05] So is it going to penetrate super thick

[00:44:09] like somebody had a leather jacket on?

[00:44:11] Potentially not,

[00:44:12] depending upon what caliber you have of it.

[00:44:16] But it hit like a ton of bricks

[00:44:17] and if you can fire

[00:44:18] like three or four or five of them right then, bam.

[00:44:21] I mean, that's going to hurt.

[00:44:23] Yeah, it is.

[00:44:24] So we need to practice, practice, practice

[00:44:26] if firearms are our home defense option

[00:44:29] because we need to be.

[00:44:31] Super competent with those,

[00:44:34] so that way we can respond

[00:44:36] and not be fumbling with it

[00:44:37] and trying to figure out how to make it work.

[00:44:40] That's a great point.

[00:44:41] Yeah, I think there's a lot of people

[00:44:43] who maybe the the spouse isn't as comfortable as

[00:44:47] what one spouse isn't as comfortable

[00:44:49] as the other spouse with firearm.

[00:44:51] So I love that you made the point of like,

[00:44:54] is there some way for the other person

[00:44:57] to defend themselves there at that secondary location?

[00:45:01] You know, that's that's a good point.

[00:45:05] Yeah, yeah.

[00:45:07] And I know like, you know, my mom has a firearm.

[00:45:12] My my youngest son would go there with her,

[00:45:15] but not the easiest for her to use all the time,

[00:45:18] especially if she's just waking up

[00:45:20] because she has bad arthritis in her hands and stuff.

[00:45:22] So that would be a great call for a different type

[00:45:26] of defensive mechanism that's easier for her to use,

[00:45:29] like a bear spray or something like that.

[00:45:30] That's just you know, you can pull it easier.

[00:45:34] Yeah, that's a great point.

[00:45:35] It'll spray really far.

[00:45:37] If you wear glasses,

[00:45:40] make sure your glasses are by your bedside.

[00:45:42] Yeah. So you can get up and put them on.

[00:45:45] If you have contacts, have a please

[00:45:47] have a pair pair of glasses by your bedside.

[00:45:51] Great point. Shoes.

[00:45:53] I'm always like shoes, you know.

[00:45:56] Right. Yeah.

[00:45:57] Because you don't.

[00:45:59] If somebody busts your window,

[00:46:01] you don't want to be walking through glass,

[00:46:02] you know, to defend yourself or if you had the film on there,

[00:46:05] then you wouldn't need it.

[00:46:06] But, you know, always having shoes by your bed is a great idea as well.

[00:46:11] Shoes, the glasses and then possibly even gloves.

[00:46:17] Right. Whatever it is that you are going to have,

[00:46:20] have it there and practice, please practice, practice.

[00:46:24] Right. We want to secure as far out from our home as we can.

[00:46:29] So that way we have as much notice as possible

[00:46:32] if somebody is approaching for us to be able to respond

[00:46:37] and hopefully deter them from actually getting inside of our home.

[00:46:43] Great points.

[00:46:44] And then, like you said, be responsible for where that bullets go in,

[00:46:48] because if you're you're firing, you know, through a wall

[00:46:50] and you're the home that's next to you is not that far away,

[00:46:55] especially on the type of firearm that you choose,

[00:46:58] how far that bullet's going to travel.

[00:47:00] It's really important to realize like what you could potentially be

[00:47:03] shooting at beyond just the bad guy in front of you.

[00:47:07] Yeah. Find an instructor locally and and take some lessons

[00:47:12] and learn the limits and the capabilities,

[00:47:15] whatever your home defense weapon is.

[00:47:18] Just so that way you're not guessing and you're not

[00:47:22] you're not wondering.

[00:47:23] And then something bad doesn't happen because you didn't know

[00:47:26] that that was a possibility. Mm hmm.

[00:47:29] Great call. Great points to I'm going way to go, chin.

[00:47:33] Way to go. Getting Nicole.

[00:47:35] Yeah, no, you know, man.

[00:47:37] Yeah. Good.

[00:47:38] Lots of good, good material there to add to you,

[00:47:41] because this is a topic I study a lot, you know.

[00:47:43] So I love to hear the different points.

[00:47:46] You're never done learning in life.

[00:47:47] It's the best, most wonderful thing about being alive.

[00:47:51] And then, right.

[00:47:53] So why don't you let everybody know where you're at again

[00:47:56] so they can come find you, Nicole?

[00:47:57] Because, you know, like I said, though,

[00:48:00] there's a lot of women who get intimidated sometimes,

[00:48:03] I think by like just learning firearms always from men

[00:48:06] and maybe they don't feel like as competent then or something.

[00:48:10] And so it's always great to have a female, honestly,

[00:48:15] that you can bounce these ideas off of.

[00:48:17] And you're just as good as they get. So.

[00:48:21] Well, thank you. And absolutely.

[00:48:23] We are very different than men.

[00:48:26] Our bodies move differently.

[00:48:27] We process things differently.

[00:48:32] Firearms are a tool and they don't have to be

[00:48:35] intimidating once we learn how to use them.

[00:48:38] So I teach in North Carolina.

[00:48:40] I'm just north of Charlotte.

[00:48:43] I am happy to travel within a couple hours of where I am.

[00:48:47] If somebody has a place that we can use as a range

[00:48:51] and we can do beginner to advanced.

[00:48:53] But our website, again, is Wolf dash fire dot com.

[00:48:57] You can find me there.

[00:48:59] Wolf dot fire dot firearms at Gmail dot com is that.

[00:49:04] And then again, we are on Instagram and Facebook.

[00:49:07] If you wanted to find us there.

[00:49:09] And if you have any questions about anything, by all means,

[00:49:11] just feel free to reach out and I am happy to answer what I can.

[00:49:15] Perfect. Well, we're going to jump into some change in Earth news.

[00:49:18] You can stick around or you can sign off totally up to you.

[00:49:22] But we're going to go through some of the

[00:49:24] well, we're going to talk a lot about Debbie tonight, actually. So

[00:49:29] it should be fun.

[00:49:30] So, yeah, you get to sign off, you get to stick around.

[00:49:34] I will stick around and listen. All right. All right.

[00:49:37] OK, I'm going to go ahead and play our wonderful music

[00:49:41] courtesy of our intrepid commander is all ready for the changing Earth news.

[00:49:51] Dreaming survive thrive.

[00:49:55] This is changing Earth news.

[00:50:03] All right. So like I said earlier,

[00:50:06] Debbie is kind of the big news of the week.

[00:50:09] But we've got we've got some other really interesting things

[00:50:12] that happened as well.

[00:50:13] So on our son this week, we had a lot of X class flares and class flares,

[00:50:20] a lot of activity going on.

[00:50:22] We had a nice CME hit last night.

[00:50:25] Didn't push us up into the dangerous range, but we did see it come through.

[00:50:30] My my Internet was acting just crazy.

[00:50:33] I was like, uh huh.

[00:50:35] And then we got another CME inbound today.

[00:50:39] Shouldn't create much problems, but we definitely have eyes on.

[00:50:43] The activity has slowed down today.

[00:50:45] Still lots of big sunspots there coming into view.

[00:50:49] So we still do have eyes on.

[00:50:52] And this sun cycle has been well above what they've estimated for this uptick.

[00:50:57] So it hasn't peaked yet, and it's been a lot more intense

[00:51:01] than what they thought it was going to be.

[00:51:02] So we're just keeping eyes on that and hoping, hoping for the best.

[00:51:08] My big news is that Thursday

[00:51:12] there was a seven point one quake

[00:51:15] that in Japan that presented a lot of concerns for Japan.

[00:51:20] And this is the first time they've ever issued a mega quake advisory warning.

[00:51:26] Their meteorology department issued it out of Japan.

[00:51:30] The prime minister canceled all of his over overseas events.

[00:51:34] And they're saying there's a potential nine point

[00:51:37] oh and Nankai trough.

[00:51:40] This would cause extreme damage.

[00:51:42] A hundred foot tsunami.

[00:51:44] It is just a very big potential for that earthquake to happen.

[00:51:50] Japan came under fire because they were like, well, you guys,

[00:51:53] we can't predict earthquakes yet.

[00:51:55] And a lot of scientists would beg to differ at that point.

[00:51:59] There's certain atmospheric conditions

[00:52:02] and a lot of tells that actually happen before an earthquake does happen.

[00:52:07] So I guess they are sensing that the

[00:52:11] the conditions are right for this to happen.

[00:52:14] So we definitely have eyes on Japan.

[00:52:17] They did have another earthquake after that one,

[00:52:20] but still not the one they're kind of looking for.

[00:52:23] This is the big one

[00:52:26] that's supposed to happen in California, happens about once every 100

[00:52:30] and or about every 300 to 400 years.

[00:52:33] We are overdue.

[00:52:34] But on the Japan side, it happens about once every 30 years.

[00:52:39] So or 150 years, but they're expecting it in the next 30 years.

[00:52:44] So definitely a shorter time frame.

[00:52:46] And they do have a heightened alert.

[00:52:48] That's the first time they did that.

[00:52:50] So it just caught my attention a little bit extra there.

[00:52:53] On August 5th of 2024,

[00:52:56] there was 389 earthquakes that were two point or bigger,

[00:53:00] biggest of which was a five point five earthquake in Oaxcala, Mexico.

[00:53:05] Debbie was inbound at that point.

[00:53:07] Ame had her sights set on Florida.

[00:53:10] But there was a small tornado that hit Buffalo, New York

[00:53:13] on that day of flipped cars and sent debris flying into downtown.

[00:53:18] So just interesting little tornado just pops up New York for no reason.

[00:53:23] Very curious weather these days.

[00:53:26] Definitely the changing Earth.

[00:53:28] August 6th of 2024, there was 356 earthquakes on planet Earth.

[00:53:33] There were two point or bigger, the biggest of which was a five point

[00:53:36] six in the South Pacific Ocean near Fiji.

[00:53:40] Debbie came in, hit Florida.

[00:53:43] Massive amounts of flooding.

[00:53:45] Some areas had up to six feet on the ground.

[00:53:48] Four people were dead that day from the hurricane

[00:53:52] that got downgraded, the tropical storm hitting about 500.

[00:53:56] People had to be rescued from floodwaters.

[00:53:58] And it also obviously had a very high wind component with it.

[00:54:03] Left a lot of destruction behind.

[00:54:05] Calgary, Ontario was also dealing with a powerful thunderstorm

[00:54:10] with hail, heavy rain, powerful wind, wind gusts.

[00:54:14] There was four EF one tornadoes that touched down in northeastern Ohio.

[00:54:21] Not really the place you think of when you think of tornadoes.

[00:54:24] You know, usually it was like Kansas, Nebraska.

[00:54:27] Now we're talking northeastern Ohio left a trail of damage.

[00:54:31] Over 200000 people without power from that event.

[00:54:36] The Edge Hill fire in San Bernardino County burned down homes,

[00:54:40] really grew, exploded that day.

[00:54:43] The other big one is the Park Fire in northern California.

[00:54:46] That one reached four hundred and fourteen thousand acres.

[00:54:50] Fourth largest fire in state history.

[00:54:55] On August 7th of 2024, there was five hundred and forty six

[00:54:59] earthquakes that were two point or bigger.

[00:55:01] That was a day we were having a lot of CME activity from the sun.

[00:55:06] There was a five point two earthquake that hit Bakersfield, California.

[00:55:10] And there was fifty eight earthquakes that surrounded that five point two.

[00:55:16] So just little tremors, but fifty eight of them.

[00:55:18] So it just really never stopped rocking and rolling.

[00:55:22] Debbie hit Georgia widespread spread flooding in the in that state.

[00:55:28] The Statesboro Dam.

[00:55:31] There was a risk of failure due to the heavy rains

[00:55:33] that it was receiving and just unprecedented amounts of water coming down.

[00:55:38] And this is what really has me concerned about our Fort Peck Dam up in Montana.

[00:55:44] This dam is just an earthen dam.

[00:55:46] It was only built for a hundred year life.

[00:55:49] And if it gets that amount of just a crazy rain situation

[00:55:52] like we've been seeing come through behind it, that dam goes.

[00:55:56] That is our Mississippi Valley.

[00:55:57] So whatever we can do to get them to update that dam,

[00:56:02] it really needs to go in the forefront.

[00:56:05] A lot of people need to think about that dam instead of

[00:56:09] some of the other things that we're focused on.

[00:56:11] In Milan, Europe, there was a high wind event destroyed homes

[00:56:15] and cars over there. August 8th of 24, there was four hundred

[00:56:19] and fifty eight earthquakes that were two point or bigger.

[00:56:22] That was the day the seven point one earthquake hit Japan.

[00:56:26] Debbie actually went out to ocean, turned back around,

[00:56:29] made a second landfall, hitting the Carolinas,

[00:56:32] flooding the coastal communities there.

[00:56:36] I guess the mountain communities were good because Jim was like,

[00:56:40] here, that didn't even do nothing to me.

[00:56:43] We were the same way when we got hit with that hurricane that came through.

[00:56:48] Six confirmed tornado touchdowns, though, in North Carolina.

[00:56:52] And then we saw a Fuego volcano in Guatemala erupt on the eighth.

[00:56:58] On August 9th, there was three hundred and eighty six earthquakes

[00:57:01] are two point or bigger than we guess, which was a five point

[00:57:04] six in the South Pacific Ocean near New Zealand.

[00:57:07] There was a five point three earthquake that hit Tokyo, Japan.

[00:57:10] Debbie brought flooding to southern New York.

[00:57:14] And there was also flooding in Juneau, Alaska,

[00:57:18] due to a glacial lake outburst that flooded a local community.

[00:57:23] So a lot of times these glacial lakes, when they lose a piece of ice

[00:57:27] and they just let the water run down.

[00:57:29] Boom, that's what happened to Juneau.

[00:57:30] They saw a lot of flooding there from that.

[00:57:33] There was an EF one tornado that touched down in Virginia

[00:57:36] as Debbie moved through.

[00:57:38] And then on the 10th of August, there was three hundred

[00:57:41] and thirty four earthquakes that were two point or bigger,

[00:57:44] biggest of which was a six point five in the Sea of Oksha, Russia.

[00:57:49] Debbie brought flooding all the way up to Canada into Montreal, Quebec.

[00:57:53] There is a EF one tornado that ripped through Delaware

[00:57:56] with peak speeds of ninety five miles an hour.

[00:58:00] There was a powerful tornado that caused massive damage

[00:58:03] in Leningrad and also St. Petersburg, Russia.

[00:58:07] And in Idaho, they still have 15 fires burning across that state.

[00:58:12] On August 11th of 2024, there was three hundred and forty

[00:58:15] one earthquakes that were two point or bigger, biggest of which

[00:58:19] was in the Philippine Sea near the North Mariana Islands.

[00:58:22] It was like a five point three, something like that.

[00:58:27] In Pakistan, they are having heavy rainfall today,

[00:58:31] causing flooding there.

[00:58:33] Tropical storm Ernesto is brewing in the Atlantic.

[00:58:38] Next couple of days is going to be really important

[00:58:41] as far as where that tropical system is going to go.

[00:58:44] If it's going to come up into Texas or if it's going to set its sights

[00:58:48] on Florida again or come in mid in the Midway,

[00:58:52] they are saying that the storms are just lining up out there

[00:58:55] in the Atlantic, so it's definitely going to be eyes on.

[00:58:57] And we need to make sure we're storm proof in our houses

[00:59:01] and ready for when those events come through.

[00:59:03] I don't know what we can do for our roofs, but

[00:59:06] man, there's a lot of new roofs around here.

[00:59:10] Tropical storm Maria is going to impact Japan.

[00:59:13] Sixty mile an hour winds going that's just north of Tokyo.

[00:59:17] So on top of all the earthquake dilemmas that they're having,

[00:59:20] they also have that tropical storm moving in at their country as well.

[00:59:23] It's kind of the double whammy.

[00:59:26] As far as volcanic activity on our planet,

[00:59:28] luckily, there are no more volcanoes erupting than there were last week.

[00:59:33] We are still at thirty four, which is still the most I've ever seen

[00:59:36] since I began recording.

[00:59:39] We have two more showing minor activity,

[00:59:42] but we have two less showing unrest.

[00:59:44] So we didn't add any more to the list.

[00:59:46] We just too kicked up from unrest into minor activity.

[00:59:50] It looks like Iceland's getting ready to go again.

[00:59:52] We definitely have eyes on that.

[00:59:54] Grindelwik is kind of right in the crosshairs there.

[00:59:58] So we're going to keep eyes on that this week.

[01:00:01] As far as wildfires in the United States,

[01:00:03] we are at a preparedness level of five.

[01:00:06] We have two million four hundred eighteen thousand

[01:00:10] and twenty acres on fire in the United States.

[01:00:13] This has caused from three new fires and seventy nine large active fires.

[01:00:19] Two of those fires are contained right now.

[01:00:21] The number one state on the list is Oregon, with 22 fires burning

[01:00:25] for a total of one million fifty three thousand acres.

[01:00:29] And none of those fires are contained.

[01:00:31] California is number two on the list with five hundred twenty three thousand

[01:00:36] thirty two acres. This is from nine new fires.

[01:00:39] There is one new one, but none of those fires are contained either.

[01:00:43] Number three is Idaho with two hundred and forty thousand acres on fire.

[01:00:47] This is coming from 14 fires.

[01:00:49] So they got one out now, but none of those 14 fires are contained.

[01:00:54] The number four state on the list is Washington,

[01:00:56] coming in with one hundred and sixty eight thousand acres on fire.

[01:01:00] This is coming from eight fires.

[01:01:02] There are no new fires and none of those fires are contained either.

[01:01:07] So it's been rough weather out there for them.

[01:01:10] Dry high winds.

[01:01:12] You just they just can't get a grip on these

[01:01:16] on the burns. So not a good situation.

[01:01:19] I need some rain on the West Coast.

[01:01:22] Too much rain on the East Coast.

[01:01:24] Not enough rain on the West Coast seems to be the story

[01:01:27] of the changing earth that you have these smaller.

[01:01:29] Oh, right. Yeah.

[01:01:31] Like you can't be even throughout.

[01:01:33] No, too much or not enough.

[01:01:34] Yeah. Same thing happened to Brazil.

[01:01:36] You know, southern Brazil was completely flooding.

[01:01:39] And then on the western side, all of that wetland was just burning

[01:01:43] because they had no rain for it.

[01:01:45] It's like the regions are changing.

[01:01:47] So very interesting stuff.

[01:01:51] All right, guys.

[01:01:52] Well, that's the changing earth podcast for today.

[01:01:56] Please remember, go on over to the YouTube channel.

[01:01:59] Give it a like a subscribe.

[01:02:02] Support the show head on over and leave a book review.

[01:02:06] All that good stuff.

[01:02:07] Go give Nicole a like on her material.

[01:02:10] Visit her website. Check it out.

[01:02:12] You will not be disappointed.

[01:02:15] And again, thanks so much for coming on, Nicole, especially such short notice.

[01:02:19] I was like, go for it, Chad.

[01:02:21] Get her pleasure.

[01:02:23] Always a great time.

[01:02:24] Perfect. Perfect.

[01:02:26] And I can't wait to see you.

[01:02:28] I know it's so close.
