[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_02]: It came from the archives

[00:00:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Coming at you from the frozen tundra that is east central Alberta Canada

[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_00]: streaming live on YouTube, Facebook, Float, Odyssey, Telegram, Twitch and

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: tonight the Prepper Broadcast Network. Welcome back to the workshop where we

[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_00]: create community, find freedom, promote preparedness and share success. I am

[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Coolman Tim and today is August 18th 2022 and this is episode 155 of the workshop

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: podcast. We've been doing this a hundred and fifty five times already. I kind of

[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: enjoy that. I always think that's pretty cool. Hey we were heading toward

[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_00]: another benchmark but we'll leave it at that for now. So real quick guys

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: we got a bunch of really cool stuff going on. So many things in the

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Just excited all around for a whole bunch of really cool happenings. First off

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Thursday night is always my episode over on the Prepper Broadcast Network

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: so if you are not supporting the PBN run by check them out. Number one

[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_00]: James has got them set up over on fountain.fm right now which is just an

[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: incredible app. I love the app. Anyway we'll deal with that down the

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey Dan W how are you? So he's been making clips and shorts and things over

[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: there so get by and support PBN all kinds. There's over a dozen content

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: creators with new stuff coming out every single night. Number two if you

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_00]: are looking for a way to support the workshop and the content that I

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: put out all the time and of course only if you get value in it the

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I launched the workshop patch of the month club and if you like irreverent

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: politically incorrect sometimes rather humorous tactical or morale patches then

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: this is the place to check it out. Patch of the month dot-co $10 a month

[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: or a hundred bucks for the year you sign up and I send you a brand new

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_00]: totally creative patch every single month that's the way to do it. So we

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: got Pappy Canole in the chat this evening. Nice to see you Pappy I was

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: the gentleman that introduced me to James and the entire crew over at PBN

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_00]: which seemed like almost a lifetime ago but it's been a match made in heaven so

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: thank you. And now we have a guest a few guests coming up in the next little

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_00]: while but a couple I wanted to point out first finally nailed down Cam and

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Kobe from the Casual Preppers podcast they will be coming on I

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: believe it's September 15th if that's wrong I'm sorry I got it booked

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: on the live stream feeds already so you'll be able to see that but the big

[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_00]: news was I got off the phone with William R. Forchden last evening if

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: you don't know him there's probably a good chance you know his book one

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: second after it's probably the very first post-apocalyptic prepper porn

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: kind of book I ever read he has while he's in New York Times bestseller

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it crosses over to all kinds of different audiences and he has just

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: kind of universal appeal to so many people anyway all that to say he is

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: going to be coming on the show in two weeks September 2nd it's gonna be 11

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: o'clock in the morning mountain time so yeah we will I will be pushing that

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like nobody's business you guys keep an ear out I cannot wait it is it's

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_00]: so exciting to get a chance to interview him it's yeah it's just it's

[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_00]: awesome it's great and I keep reaching out there and trying to get better and

[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: better guests for you guys I'm booked up right at the moment through to I

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_00]: think I've got around the middle of November at this point so if you're

[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: looking to get on the show this year in 2022 holy cow the year's almost

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: gone I think I've got about six slots left before the new year so we'll get

[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: them booked up and then we'll wait a bit and we'll open her back up

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: again but if you want to be a guest or you have a suggestion for a

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: guest let me know okay from there today's tool so yesterday I finally was

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: able to put together some furniture for the missus we we ended up losing

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_00]: or no well no we didn't lose it we ended up not getting the hardware with

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: the package so we had to wait ages to get it I had to put it together and

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: one of my absolute favorite cheap tools is the Nikko impact ready

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_00]: allen keys if you're looking for something if you're looking to start

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: a side hustle putting the other IKEA furniture that's how I lost my hair but

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_00]: anyway if you're looking to do something like that or you just have a

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_00]: lot of assembly to do they are a lifesaver just pop them in there about

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: four three to four inches long and they have all the different metric and

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_00]: imperial sizes for the allen keys and they speed it up and save your wrist

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_00]: a ton so if you're looking for something links in the description

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_00]: always a way to support the workshop by going by there and if you don't

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_00]: pick that up you can always go by toolman Tim dot shop okay so I hate to

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_00]: say this guys and it really hasn't been affected here a whole lot yet but

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_00]: the times they are changing well as far as the weather goes before long we

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_00]: are gonna be into some cooler weather we're in the hottest spell of the

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: year for us we're in the you know high 80s low 90s which is kind of

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the weather hasn't changed a lot but the elm trees are already starting to

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: shed their leaves here which is always a sign that that four-letter word fall

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_00]: is right around the corner and after fall you know what comes we won't talk

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_00]: about that quite yet but what I will say is that my snow removal contracts

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_00]: officially start in 74 days which sucks anyway now it's not that bad

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: but that means we have just over two months to be prepared at least in my

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_00]: area not everybody of course but in my area about two months to be prepared

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: before things start to really freeze I know some of you you're not in

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: that boat but I most definitely am gonna shout out to Martinson family how

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_00]: you doing and snail Creek homestead good to have you guys in the

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_00]: workshop this evening so I thought it would come up I thought I'd come up

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_00]: with a kind of tongue-in-cheek funny kind of eye-catching title for you guys

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_00]: tonight so I figured what better way than to say that right around the

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: corner because I do believe if I'm not mistaken I think I saw Aaron from two

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_00]: chicks homestead say that September 1st is pumpkin season for her soon as

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: that Halloween stuff can go up and that's basically how it works for us

[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: too but I figured with pumpkin spice season around the corner it was time

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: to prepare for it so before we get into the fall repairedness I got kind

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: of a different kind of schedule or a different kind of segment for you guys

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: then I normally carry so I reached out to the workshop audience in the

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_00]: telegram group just it's the best community around I know I'm kind of

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_00]: biased and I asked for their favorite fall and pumpkin recipes they did not

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: disappoint and then of course I asked my missus I said well one of the

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_00]: ones that we love to do the best and so I made a quick list I even

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_00]: popped in a couple of really original or different recipes for you but I got a

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_00]: totally useless and only slightly related fact to share with you before

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_00]: we get started if you guys didn't know this I could even believe it when I

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: came across it but I was doing some research for the show Americans spend

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_00]: over half a billion dollars on pumpkin spiced flavored products every

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_00]: single fall half a billion dollars imagine what you can do with that but

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_00]: anyway start a self-sufficient homestead whatever I'm just kidding you can spend

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_00]: your money on whatever hell you want to I just thought that was funny because I

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_00]: don't believe I've ever drank a pumpkin spice latte before and if

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_00]: anyone else has let me know because I'm I assume they just kind of taste

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_00]: like the standard kind of pumpkin spices but anyway so I made a list

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: with the workshop community I thought it's kind of cool had your standard

[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_00]: some of these came from Aaron pumpkin bread pumpkin pastries

[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_00]: although it was typed in pumpkin pasties and I'm thinking that's a whole

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_00]: different story but anyway I'm gonna go with pastries I'm pretty sure that's

[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_00]: what it was hey Brian from the lots projects on good to see you now this

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_00]: one was rather original and if anybody out there's tried it other than

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Aaron and Nate pumpkin chili so I thought that's kind of cool anyway I

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_00]: got that recipe for you here in a minute three sisters stew always hear a

[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_00]: lot of talk about you know three sisters gardening and that sort of

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_00]: things I thought that was kind of cool pumpkin chocolate cookies that was

[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_00]: from the candy fan I've got them down here I'll give you their name in just a

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_00]: second now one of our absolute fall favorites growing up on the East Coast

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: we had a lot of apple orchards around so we had access to tons of

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_00]: beautiful fresh fall apples and probably the most simple recipe in the

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: world was our favorite you would just core an apple leave the skin

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and everything on and you'd put a big dollop of butter and brown sugar

[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_00]: down in the middle put them on a tray in the oven bake them till they

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_00]: soft and just eat the heck out of them always good apple pie that's a favorite

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_00]: we got a there's a doctor here in town who is absolutely a huge fan of apple

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: pie we tend to bribe him I mean drop them off to him once in a while

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_00]: because he always appreciates them roasted pumpkin seeds they're one of

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_00]: those things I've never quite acquired a taste for but I'll eat them once

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: in a while they're always kind of fun and then the big one we would

[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_00]: always do we don't tend to have pumpkin too much around Thanksgiving but we'll

[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: freeze pumpkin save it and then make our pies at Christmas time so that was

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: one of them and then applesauce that was always one of my favorites we

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: would cook down the apples and then just can it straight water bath can it

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure what the the powers that be whether they recommend straight

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_00]: canning or not with applesauce but we always did I know it's fairly

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_00]: acidic and nobody ever dropped dead from it but so I was going to share

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: two quick recipes I thought these were kind of cool and you're like Tim this is

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: a preparedness episode yeah but it's my podcast the title is preparing for

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_00]: pumpkin for pumpkin spice season so I thought we'd have a little fun with

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_00]: that you had Dan Dan W says man 500 million is a private island yes built

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_00]: on the backs of many Starbucks workers wouldn't that be fun John Palmer how

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_00]: are you so Aaron's recipe she said she tried it last fall she loved it

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Nate and the kids sound sounded like maybe not so much but it's pumpkin

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_00]: chili not so the pumpkins a thickener from what it says Dan W says pumpkin

[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_00]: bread is a favorite for him so you get a excuse me guys a pound of

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_00]: lean ground turkey some onion minced garlic a can of tri-bean blends can

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_00]: of northern beans beans can of stewed tomatoes a can of tomato sauce and one

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_00]: of pumpkin puree now it's very specific it says do not use pumpkin pie filling

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_00]: so unless you like a really really sweet chili I don't think I would use

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_00]: pumpkin pie filling but use puree and then all your standard spices from

[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_00]: there kind of reminds me a bit of squash soup I had that once cold at

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: a meeting I wasn't real keen on it but I would most definitely try pumpkin

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_00]: chili once in a while now another user and I think this might be two users over

[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_00]: on the telegram group called canny couple I love that name they're also

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_00]: on float so if you're looking for some like-minded individuals to hook up

[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_00]: with on social that is another couple to check out so canny couple had

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: chocolate pumpkin cookies I'd never heard of that before I mean I kind of

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_00]: like most anything pumpkin but it's a cup and a half of pumpkin puree

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: a cup of sugar teaspoon of vanilla one egg and I will put this recipe

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_00]: in the description and the link to errands as well then you got flour

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_00]: baking powder cinnamon nutmeg salt baking soda and chocolate chips I

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_00]: thought that was kind of cool so you got a pumpkin cookie with chocolate

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: chips in it now of course I'm strict keto right now again because I'm

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_00]: working toward the self-reliance festival challenge as we have

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_00]: decided to make it see how much weight we can lose excuse me so I

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: video of a guy named John Watson you guys have seen him many times on here

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_00]: he come up with the concept of the forever stew so this is something they

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: do every fall at his house and he said every harvest we make a massive

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_00]: forever stew and I hadn't heard of this before although I think I've heard

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_00]: of this type of thing back in pioneer days where they would just kind of

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: keep a stew on the stove and you just keep adding to it he said it

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: has all the goods from the garden and some of the winter beef the last

[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: of the week's harvest says it stays out on a huge crock pot because it can be

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_00]: any meal it becomes more of a soup by the end of the week meat is precooked

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: to medium-rare before going into the pot and it's what you'd imagine it to

[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_00]: be without the massive cauldron sitting over a fire says yes yes it's

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_00]: basically salt and pepper seasoning you can add whatever you want to the

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: bowl and there's always raw hot peppers and extra stuff around to

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_00]: drop on top of it intrepid commander James over on PBN and if you're a

[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: PBN drop in the live show chat over there I said great topic Tim thanks man

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I always appreciate that okay so I thought I hope you enjoyed that little

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_00]: bit of fun getting ready for pumpkin spice season pumpkin spice seasoning

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_00]: anyway no it's another story so let's dive into the big the main topic this

[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_00]: week now we did an episode recently on the fireside freedom podcast

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_00]: called preparing for the fall and lots of people thought we meant the

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_00]: collapse of civilization I don't think we did I think we meant autumn I'm

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_00]: pretty sure that's what we ended up talking about but that's what we're

[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna be doing tonight preparing for the fall and I mean the weather fall

[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_00]: we can deal with that other topic another night so the first thing to do

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_00]: if you're feeling a little overwhelmed because I got to be honest autumn or

[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_00]: fall and I know some of you guys are like Tim you're crazy I live in

[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Texas where you know it's gonna be hot and I can grow you know

[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_00]: bananas outdoors for the next six months not really but you know but

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_00]: for us this is an issue so first off make yourself a plan and I've been

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_00]: sent maintenance guides and maintenance schedules from a few different people

[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_00]: in the community I did one up for PBN earlier this year but the first thing

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_00]: you need to do get out there make a plan put something on paper write down

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_00]: your fall maintenance schedule the reason for that is if you're anything

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like me for instance when I put my ice scrapers away for the summer and

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_00]: then I go to find them in the spring or in the fall the next year a lot of times

[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_00]: they've disappeared so that's why I write down my fall maintenance schedule

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_00]: because if you don't three or four or five items are gonna go missing it's

[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_00]: just like when you go camping especially when you first start camping

[00:15:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and you think okay what could make this trip better next time make a list

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_00]: and then work from it but make yourself a fall maintenance schedule

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_00]: write it down put it in a notepad whatever it happens to be modify it

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_00]: you're gonna make mistakes I make mistakes we all make mistakes and then

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_00]: you're gonna save it for next year bring it back out use it again modify and

[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_00]: repeat your process but when you get a system down it's gonna feel less

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_00]: overwhelming I started looking around this afternoon around my yard and I

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_00]: thought I got a lot of shit I need to get done well Tim let's make a

[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_00]: plan make a list and work from it so I ended up getting my well we'll

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_00]: tell you more about that later but yeah I got a few things done today

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_00]: so let's start with inside the house there's always a bunch of things they

[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_00]: always used to say the best time to check your smoke detectors was with the

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: when the time changed but you can't do that anymore because the time well I

[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_00]: mean you could but the time changes are so uneven unbalanced that you're

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_00]: better off now I think spring and fall check your smoke detectors now

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I've been using I haven't mentioned these before but I've been using

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_00]: rechargeable 9-volt batteries in my smoke detectors some people warned me

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and said hey I don't think the voltage will be high enough I've had no problem

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_00]: we've tested them trust me we've tested them a few times you know

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_00]: overcooking the bacon which is a cardinal sin things like that but it

[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_00]: has set them off they've worked well I get about a year of battery life in

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_00]: them and I don't have to throw them out when I'm done I just swap

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_00]: them out and they're USB chargeable so they're great now the next thing

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_00]: that we've started doing already oh my god anyway is hauling out all your

[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_00]: winter gear your clothes your jackets your hats your mitts for your kids

[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_00]: because we're gonna be in the full swing of back to school time here and

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_00]: you need to have that gear out because we bury it we just bury shit you know

[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_00]: it goes in there in the spring and then you just keep piling stuff on top

[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_00]: of it into the storage right and yes Snail Creek Homestead says as soon as

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_00]: cools hit the firewood pile yes it makes you think about the firewood

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_00]: pile doesn't it driving around today like I said the elm trees are

[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_00]: starting to shed their leaves already I know that's early for some of you

[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_00]: but for me that's the very you start to see them kind of the first first week or

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_00]: two in August they start turning yellow and then it's like one night they just

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_00]: decide they're gonna drop so for me that's my big sign to start worrying

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_00]: about all that stuff now here's another one not a lot of people think about

[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and you might think well we're getting into redneck territory here and

[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_00]: this could be a month or two down the road yet but put your Christmas

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_00]: decorations up early get your lights up get them on the eaves whatever it

[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_00]: happens to be because the last thing you want to do is get climbing

[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_00]: your butt up there when things are frozen solid or you get ice or snow on

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_00]: the ground and you're trying to get a level spot for your ladder to get up

[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_00]: on the eaves so think about it put those up early I know Tim don't talk

[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_00]: about Christmas it's only August but it's around the corner now is there

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_00]: anything you need to stock up in your pantry beforehand so you know are

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: there things that you eat more of when the weather gets cold you know

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_00]: a lot of times we crave you know soups and stews and things like that

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_00]: so stock up on them now buy them before there is a need for them it's like you

[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_00]: know buy your stuff for Thanksgiving a month before Thanksgiving so that you

[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_00]: have them but you know if there's things your family how about back-to-school

[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_00]: snacks for instance stock up on those right now another good thing have the

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_00]: wood hauled in as Snail Creek said always important think about your oil

[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_00]: so in some places they have furnace oil and other places propane tanks

[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_00]: have them filled up ahead of time so that you beat the rush right the

[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_00]: best thing for seasonal stuff is to get it done before everyone else wants it

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: that way you're not sitting there in the very first cold spell and think man

[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm down to an eighth of a tank of propane and I need to get some

[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_00]: delivered but guess what so does everyone else so the best thing to do

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_00]: get your ass ahead of time and give them a call outside the house here's

[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_00]: another one and we talked about this the other night on fireside but clean

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_00]: up any tripping hazards now a lot of you you know if you know down

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Tennessee that kind of thing it's not as big a deal but for us you know things

[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_00]: like extension cords things like even like frozen dog toys they freeze to the

[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_00]: ground and if they're there the 1st of November they're probably there the

[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_00]: rest of winter last thing you want to do is suck up an extension cord or

[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_00]: one of those into the snowblower or trip over it end up breaking the neck

[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_00]: or you know your nose or something stupid like that just make sure all

[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: that is picked up and out of the way for long you know we've probably

[00:19:38] [SPEAKER_00]: got four weeks or so before we do this but a lot of our summer shits got to be

[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_00]: put away so our outdoor furniture other than a couple of folding chairs

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_00]: will go into the shed they'll go to the back the winter stuff will start

[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_00]: coming out you know the fire pits and that sort of thing they'll go away

[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_00]: anything that fills with water like your hoses you know drain your taps

[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_00]: if you have taps that need to drain anything like that and there's no

[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_00]: reason to throw good money after bad by just being lazy and hey I'm gonna

[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_00]: tell you I've been I've done this before I've ruined perfectly good hoses

[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_00]: by leaving them outside simply because I was too damn lazy to roll them

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_00]: up and a quick tip on those if you pick them up and kind of hold them at

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_00]: chest height and roll them as you go take your time that water will work

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_00]: its way out and gravity will feed it down and you'll end up draining 99%

[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_00]: of the water out of that hose and then you can take it and put it in

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_00]: your storage shed because then you don't have to worry about it

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_00]: expanding and splitting empty out your garden beds you know I'm gonna be

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_00]: pulling out some of the stuff that's in my wicking beds before too long

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_00]: although I gotta say the comfrey the first batch is drying up really nice I

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_00]: hung up a bunch of batches out in the storage container the other day

[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_00]: and that thing I cut it about a week ago and I've got leaves almost a foot

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_00]: high already off it they grow like rabbits I guess you could say here's

[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_00]: another one you might not think about but it's good to get done now weather

[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_00]: stripping on doors there's nothing worse than realizing you got a nasty old

[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_00]: draft on the side of your door in the middle of winter so you know the other

[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_00]: day I was looking and I could see daylight out my back door one of the

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_00]: dogs must have chewed on it and there's about a strip of 18 inches

[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_00]: long weather stripping completely missed so take your time walk around

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and do that what did I do this afternoon I give them a grill a good

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_00]: cleaning because you don't think about it but grill fires can happen in the

[00:21:29] [SPEAKER_00]: middle of winter too and if you don't give it a good cleaning now what are

[00:21:33] [SPEAKER_00]: the chances you're gonna go out when it's minus 30 minus 20 minus 10

[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_00]: whatever it happens to be where you live and give your grill a good

[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_00]: cleaning now I grill my barbecue 12 months of the year all the time but I

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_00]: can promise you I don't clean my grill in the middle of winter so do

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_00]: it now get it done so that you don't have to worry about it give all

[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_00]: your outdoor furniture a good washing I know my buddy Ford mentioned

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_00]: quite a while ago that there is actual potential in a side hustle for going

[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_00]: around and pressure washing cushions and outdoor furniture and that kind of

[00:22:05] [SPEAKER_00]: stuff give it all a good washing early in the morning when you know it's

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna be a nice bright sunny day leave that stuff out there just let the

[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Sun beat on it dry it off then put it away alright here's a good one how

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_00]: about gardens and sheds something we always think about and I don't know

[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_00]: but you guys but here's the thing about storage I got to come up with

[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_00]: rule for this but the unofficial rule is whatever amount of storage space you

[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_00]: have the clutter you have grows up to and including the full size of your

[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_00]: garage so if you've got two garages you're gonna manage to get just enough

[00:22:39] [SPEAKER_00]: clutter to fill up those two garages but if you go and get yourself a

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_00]: third graduate like finally my storage situation is solved no not true

[00:22:47] [SPEAKER_00]: because you're gonna fill it up again it just seems to happen that the

[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_00]: kind of manifests itself to the point that it fills whatever storage you have

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_00]: so if you have unheated sheds and garages the first thing you need to do

[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_00]: is get all your latex you get your glues get your caulking get your paint

[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_00]: any of that stuff take it indoors because it's gonna freeze and you're

[00:23:10] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna just waste good money again and how long does that really take a

[00:23:14] [SPEAKER_00]: couple of minutes snowblower get it out and test it if that's what you

[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_00]: inspect your snow shovels do you need any new ones time to winterize your

[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_00]: summer gas gear so whatever you happen to have anything small engine we're

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna talk about that in a minute here but any small engine gear you have

[00:23:32] [SPEAKER_00]: well it's time to put it away you know I've got probably what do I got

[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_00]: five weeks left of mowing season here so a lot of it's gonna go away

[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_00]: but most mines battery now so it's not a big deal then take some time

[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and organize your garage so this is where I want to dig in my feet here for just

[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: a minute because I try to organize my storage areas twice a year in the

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_00]: spring and in the fall now I'm not gonna lie it doesn't always happen but

[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I do have the best of intentions to do it we did it this year in the

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_00]: spring it was a huge job because I didn't do it last fall so we're

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna take a few minutes one of these weekends and we're gonna give it

[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_00]: a good cleaning so I got a good buddy his name's Phil he's still

[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_00]: run a newtie it was called new to you music and books it was a hockey

[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_00]: card store it had books and music and all of that and one of his I went in

[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_00]: one day and the place was a mess he had books everywhere all over the floor

[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_00]: all over the show it just it was a mess nothing was organized I said what

[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_00]: in the hell are you doing and he looked at me and he says well Tim he

[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_00]: says you got to make a mess to fix a mess and that has stuck with me

[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_00]: ever since so I wanted to share with you guys kind of my process for

[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_00]: cleaning up a messy storage area because you always need here's the thing if you

[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_00]: think you don't have enough storage take a day and organize your storage areas

[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_00]: and you're gonna all of a sudden find 30 to 40 percent more storage space

[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_00]: it's just you know an incontrovertible truth it works so

[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_00]: first thing you got to do is make a plan what's your goal for organizing

[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_00]: you know do you want to get rid of stuff do you want to make you know

[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_00]: make more room do you want to clean things up but make a plan okay am I

[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_00]: going to work on this shed today this garage tomorrow this storage container

[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_00]: the next day whatever it is now the next thing you got to do this is gonna

[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_00]: be a pain it's hard to do but if it's just a straight-up storage area you

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_00]: got to haul everything out just about every I mean you might leave one

[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_00]: or two big items in but the quickest way to do it and it's just bite the

[00:25:28] [SPEAKER_00]: bullet and start hauling all that shit out I've got a storage container

[00:25:32] [SPEAKER_00]: that I lease downtown around a bunch of them and what we do is we just

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_00]: we haul everything out and we make piles so then once you haul everything

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_00]: out you got to figure out what am I gonna donate so is there stuff in there

[00:25:44] [SPEAKER_00]: that I brought home I don't need whatever it happens to be I just have

[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_00]: no use for it it's gonna go off to Goodwill or to you know Salvation Army

[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_00]: whatever it happens to be but I need to get rid of some stuff you need to

[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_00]: have a strong eye toward that and you need a resolute spirit you need to

[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_00]: sit down and say okay I'm getting rid of it I haven't used it in a year

[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_00]: or two years it's going now be honest about that are you donating all this

[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_00]: stuff because you don't want it or is it useless should it go to the landfill

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_00]: so donate it or dump it which one is it so figure that out make your piles

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_00]: put a donate pile here put a sell pile there put a dump pile there then

[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_00]: before you put anything back in make another plan I know I sound like an

[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_00]: old man write it down make a plan but this is the best way that I've ever

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_00]: figured to organize large areas like this so plan your restack so you're

[00:26:38] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna look in there and you're gonna say okay this is where this is gonna go

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_00]: this will fit here take a minute that's what I find if people just

[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_00]: start ramming things in you're gonna lose all the space you thought you're

[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna gain but if you take a minute and you plan kind of like playing I

[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_00]: want to say Jenga but um you know or have you ever moved somebody and

[00:26:56] [SPEAKER_00]: you had to figure out where to put everything take your time make a plan

[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_00]: now what I found is put your large items in first so if you got like a ride

[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_00]: on mower or a couple of fridges slide them right to the back of whatever the

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_00]: shed is and then stack things around it then also put the things you're not

[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna need for another year put them to the back as well so just keep that

[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_00]: in your mind okay yeah this is what I'm gonna do the stuff I don't need

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_00]: of course needs to go to the back you know there's no sense in having

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_00]: all your Christmas decorations out front when you know you're coming up on

[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_00]: so have those things rotating that's what we try to do here at the house with

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_00]: our decorations for seasons as well then another thing take a minute look at your

[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_00]: stuff and stack like items together so if you got a bunch of stuff that are

[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_00]: in boxes find a corner stack them all the way to the roof use your

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_00]: vertical space the best you can that's the best way to get the most use out

[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_00]: of a storage area also don't forget to plan an access path so you know

[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_00]: whether it just happens to be right at the doorway so you can get in and

[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_00]: move around leave room to swing the door or leave room to actually walk in

[00:28:00] [SPEAKER_00]: that's what I did last year when we stored our our cleared up our storage

[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_00]: container was I left a small path right down the middle with stuff on

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_00]: either side and then the back half was totally full stacked right to the

[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_00]: gills and then you can fit your medium and small stuff in wherever you

[00:28:16] [SPEAKER_00]: know put a box up on top of fridge or you know slide a trach in this

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_00]: one little spot where it can go whatever it happens to be but start

[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_00]: fitting the pieces in like a puzzle and then repeat this every six months or

[00:28:29] [SPEAKER_00]: quick you know however often it's going to be a lot faster when you do

[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_00]: that so if you take your time and you say okay twice a year I'm going to

[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_00]: do it well you might need to haul everything out this time but in the

[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_00]: spring if things haven't moved around a whole lot you still got a

[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_00]: little bit of storage no big deal but what I find is like my storage

[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_00]: container downtown right now I organized everything I had almost half

[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the storage container empty so mentally I know I have a storage container there

[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_00]: whenever I need to get rid of something it goes downtown so right now

[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_00]: my snowblower is in there I just delivered a playground set for the

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_00]: daycare that I haven't assembled yet that went in there whole bunch of

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_00]: stuff all of a sudden your mind says huh I have empty space what do

[00:29:12] [SPEAKER_00]: they say nature abhors a vacuum so we need to fill it up right we need

[00:29:15] [SPEAKER_00]: to fill in the storage container that's just what we do so when we

[00:29:20] [SPEAKER_00]: organize this this time we're probably just going to pull the fresh stuff out

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_00]: what needs to stay in there what can I get rid of repeat the process right so

[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_00]: next thing small engines for winter or small engines for fall whatever it

[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_00]: happens to be I thought I'd share with you my process for that as well so

[00:29:39] [SPEAKER_00]: whether it happens to be you know tillers or aerators push mowers this

[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_00]: could be four-stroke engines or two-stroke engines whatever they happen to

[00:29:47] [SPEAKER_00]: have but this is what I do this is what I used to do with my push mowers before

[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I switched all battery I have other gear I do it with but those were the big

[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_00]: ones first thing I do again I try to plan this on a really nice warm sunny

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_00]: day pressure wash everything now here's the thing if you don't have a

[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_00]: pressure washer go to a this might sound funny load up all your gear and

[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_00]: go to a DI or a do-it-yourself or self-serve pressure wash bay somewhere

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_00]: we can go and wash vehicles because if you're renting it they don't care just

[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_00]: clean up your mess you know don't be that guy that leaves all the grass you

[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_00]: just blew out of your mowers right in the middle wash it down into the

[00:30:24] [SPEAKER_00]: little caverns that collect it but yeah take it up there give it a really

[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_00]: good wash then take it home or take it out on a parking pad somewhere and

[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_00]: leave it up so the bottom everything the air can circulate the Sun can get

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_00]: on get it completely dry thoroughly dry then from there once you get all

[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_00]: that gunk and debris dirt and all that off it completely then you're free to

[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_00]: start inspecting it for damages so walk around that last two three years ago

[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_00]: that's when I found the the rear bagging chute on one of them had

[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_00]: cracked right in half I didn't notice it most of the summer because it was

[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_00]: covered in debris and grass you know we'd give it a brush off but we

[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_00]: never give it a real deep cleaning so then walk around inspect it for

[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_00]: damages if it's good here's something else I do I usually keep white black

[00:31:09] [SPEAKER_00]: and red spray paint on hand because most gear white black or red most

[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_00]: everything I have is that so if I'm you know spraying my garden tools it's

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_00]: going to be black if it's my mowers they're going to be red but flip it

[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_00]: over up underneath whatever it happens to be anywhere where there's a little

[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_00]: bit of rust scrape the rust off and give it a spray paint give it a

[00:31:28] [SPEAKER_00]: couple of good liberal coats leave it out let it dry then take all the

[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_00]: gas out of it if you can you know if you have one of those little

[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_00]: pumps or a little suction pump take most of it out because you don't want

[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_00]: to have to sit and let it run for hours that's what I used to do I used

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_00]: to start up my mowers I put a clamp on the safety bar completely defeating

[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_00]: that purpose and letting it run for an hour because I didn't want to

[00:31:51] [SPEAKER_00]: drain the gas out of it so get most of the gas out add yourself a couple

[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_00]: of scientific measurement you know two or three glugs of seafoam run it

[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_00]: through till it runs itself dry that'll clean out all the gunk that's

[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_00]: in the carburetor then you know you're good you're not going to have

[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_00]: any old skunky gas in there that's going to be a pain in the ass to start

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_00]: up in the spring next thing you want this is when I change the oil you know

[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_00]: get all that old gunky skunky oil out of there you know make sure you get it

[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_00]: all out put some nice fresh oil in so that you're ready to go first thing

[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_00]: in spring change the spark plug out because now you got fresh oil fresh

[00:32:24] [SPEAKER_00]: gas well you will have fresh gas and it's great to start spring with a

[00:32:28] [SPEAKER_00]: new spark plug hey hunter hunters coming over from twitch good to see

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_00]: buddy inspect and clean the air filter you know check it out this goes for

[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_00]: generators to make sure mice haven't made a nest in there you know if you

[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_00]: can blow them out you know if they're the pleated style either brush them out

[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_00]: or gently blow them out if they're the foam style easiest way run them in

[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_00]: well don't do it in your wife's sink if you can help it but hot soapy

[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_00]: water scrub them really really good ring them out let them dry and John

[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Palmer says don't forget yellow paint that is true they can only keep so much

[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_00]: stuff right but yeah so from there if you've got a foam air filter like I

[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_00]: said hot soapy water just rinse it back and forth till it starts running

[00:33:11] [SPEAKER_00]: clean wring it out let it dry really good and then put a couple of drops

[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_00]: of some kind of multi-purpose oil and just work it in there that just

[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_00]: helps it do what it needs to do and then reinsert it I don't I know they

[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_00]: love the pleated paper filters but just drives me nuts having to keep

[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_00]: them on hand if you have a foam one you can if you baby that thing you that'll

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_00]: last you decades but those pleated ones just eventually get full and junked up

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_00]: and you can't clean them out so you have to replace them hunter says he's

[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_00]: working on the forge tonight always love or working in the forge sorry

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_00]: always love hearing people hustling away it's always great good to have

[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_00]: you though so like I said inspect and clean the air filter get your

[00:33:53] [SPEAKER_00]: winter gear out of the way and then store your summer stuff all the way

[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_00]: to the back now here's one thing you might not think about a couple of years

[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_00]: ago I had my push mowers right to the back in one of my storage containers

[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and I had a couple of heavy tools sitting there and you know at some

[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_00]: point I must have moved things around one of the tools came down and broke

[00:34:12] [SPEAKER_00]: a piece off the mower so when you're storing things the best you can try to

[00:34:18] [SPEAKER_00]: make sure that you don't have you know trap set where big things can fall

[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_00]: down and cost you a lot of money because you spent all that time changing

[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_00]: the oil pressure washing draining the gas given in a spray paint all of that

[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_00]: just to store it away and something fall down and break on it so just be

[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_00]: careful right so next for pumpkin spice repairedness now for dealing

[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_00]: with the fall coming up Oh John Palmer says he keeps a ball let's bring

[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_00]: this up for you says I keep a spray bottle of soapy water in the garage

[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_00]: with the mower for filters that's a great idea and then you don't have to

[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_00]: get hollered at by the wife when she wonders why there's dirt and dust and

[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_00]: oil in the sink because if there's one rule of thumb and this goes for

[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_00]: shaving as well no matter how hard a man attempts to clean out a sink it

[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_00]: will never quite be up to the lady standard they will always find a

[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_00]: or one piece of dust or dirt so just don't do it I'm speaking from many

[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_00]: years of being married experience so next thing we can check out is our

[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_00]: automotive end of things and depending on where you live this may be a big

[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_00]: deal it may not be but you got a few things you know first thing you want

[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_00]: to do is haul out your emergency kit we're due to do that right away if

[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_00]: you've got anything in there that doesn't like winter swap it out you

[00:35:42] [SPEAKER_00]: know we've got water in there it's gonna freeze well that's a it's

[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_00]: either here or there you can't deal we got to deal with it but a great tip that

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I some sometimes you just hear the simplest thing and it just clicks with

[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_00]: you but Nate I think this was on our fireside episode the other day Nate

[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_00]: from two chicks homestead said all they do is every time they go for a

[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_00]: drive they take a bottle of water with them how simple is that they all

[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_00]: have water bottles in their family they fill them up they take with them

[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_00]: so they have something to drink so you never have to end up having frozen

[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_00]: water that you have to unfreeze in an emergency scenario or emergency

[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_00]: situation so that's really good and Hunter says I don't yeah so yes also I

[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_00]: do not want to get any messages from any angry wives or husbands because

[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Hunter says babe Tim says I don't have to clean that is not what I

[00:36:38] [SPEAKER_00]: said but you know you can misconstrue it if you want I understand

[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_00]: change out your washer fluid now again this may not be an issue for some of

[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_00]: you but up here if I don't use bug wash in the summer I'm in trouble

[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_00]: because I can't see these bugs are like wallpaper paste to the windshield

[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_00]: but if I don't swap out I'm gonna end up having a frozen windshield wiper

[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_00]: windshield washer reservoir because of course that stuff freezes quickly so I

[00:37:03] [SPEAKER_00]: need to swap out for minus 40 snow or minus 40 availability because that

[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_00]: freezes like nobody's business sometimes it gets even a little colder

[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_00]: winter tires here's another one Yossick says over on telegram he swears he

[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_00]: heard Tim say you don't have to clean I'm just saying if you want to get in

[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_00]: trouble just test the waters with not cleaning up a sink after you do

[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_00]: it but anyway I pass on ice scrapers haul them out because guaranteed at

[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_00]: least in my instance if I put four ice scrapers away in the spring I'll

[00:37:35] [SPEAKER_00]: be able to find two or three in the fall just a rule of thumb doesn't matter

[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_00]: how organized I am doesn't matter whether I coined the term repairedness

[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_00]: or not I will tell you if I throw up ice scrapers in the garage they just

[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_00]: disappeared they go to the same place the socks and the dryer go every

[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_00]: single time now here's the next one snow tires if you're gonna get your

[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_00]: snow tires on beat the rush because you don't want to be one of those

[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_00]: people looking around thinking oh my god the snow is falling and I need

[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_00]: winter tires because guess what every other average Joe is doing the same

[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_00]: thing that day so do it ahead of time now stock up on I know this is crazy

[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_00]: even talking about sand traction sand and ice melt now or soon because you

[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_00]: could end up like last winter I thought I had enough I bought half a

[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_00]: pallet on clearance the year before and we had such a nasty old winter

[00:38:26] [SPEAKER_00]: that I went through it all but stock up ahead of time do your due diligence

[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_00]: also find out I found out recently that my town offers traction sand mix

[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_00]: with salt to homeowners to use so it's always there and available so just

[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_00]: look into your town and see if maybe they have something like that heating

[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_00]: system that's the next one chimney if you haven't cleaned it

[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_00]: haven't inspected it you know make sure that some criminal didn't climb up

[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_00]: on your roof try to you know get unlawful entry into your home get

[00:38:56] [SPEAKER_00]: stuck halfway down and has been rotting there all summer just make

[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_00]: sure that doesn't happen right but yeah inspect your chimney make sure it's not

[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_00]: a bird's nest in there a raccoon didn't climb up making make sure that you

[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_00]: haven't lost your chimney cap through the summer through last spring

[00:39:08] [SPEAKER_00]: whatever because they do tend to blow away now if you are this is

[00:39:13] [SPEAKER_00]: something we do like to do get a furnace inspection done so each year

[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_00]: have it serviced so book that now again because people are going to start

[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_00]: thinking about it so get it booked ahead of time so that you're not

[00:39:23] [SPEAKER_00]: fighting the hordes once again so I'll put your furnace filter and oh

[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_00]: there it is haha hunter just brought it up change your dang HVAC filters yes

[00:39:33] [SPEAKER_00]: change them if you have a reusable filter clean it out but most most of

[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_00]: them nowadays are you know swap them out but yes get it done be done with

[00:39:40] [SPEAKER_00]: it winter inspection John Palmer says use an ice shield windshield cover so

[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_00]: you don't need scrapers I'm gonna test that out this year I think it

[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_00]: would work quite well for us I really do but yes I haven't tried

[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_00]: them if anybody else has tried those ice ice shield windshield covers

[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd like to hear your opinion on it but they do look pretty handy

[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_00]: also duct work get your duct work cleaning cleaned just so that you

[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_00]: don't have a buildup of dust it helps improve the efficiency of your furnace

[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_00]: helps you from burning out your motor too quick all of that jazz I know

[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_00]: last year like I said this host had been a rental for years who knows

[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_00]: when had been done there was enough hair and well there was enough hair

[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_00]: that come out of the the furnace and duct work that you could have

[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_00]: two more dogs or two more cats but get it done if you're gonna get it done or

[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_00]: do it yourself you know you can do it I did a poor man's version with shop

[00:40:30] [SPEAKER_00]: vac on it with a really long hose and an upholstery brush it's pretty

[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_00]: good you know I kind of like hiring people now because you know they're

[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna do a good job and it saved me a bunch of time but be careful

[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_00]: there's scams out there I don't know why there's so many scams in the

[00:40:45] [SPEAKER_00]: ductwork cleaning area but we've had a couple of times we've called

[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_00]: companies and they've you know kind of apparently they get pushy and they don't

[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_00]: do good work and then they try to overcharge you but what we found is in

[00:40:58] [SPEAKER_00]: the ductwork if it's a Facebook ad you might want to stay away from it

[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_00]: because quite often what we found was they were impersonating other

[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_00]: companies they were just some fly-by-night guy and they would come

[00:41:09] [SPEAKER_00]: down and butcher your your ductwork your plenum whatever it was they

[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_00]: cut great big holes in them do a shitty job of patching them up not

[00:41:18] [SPEAKER_00]: clean properly and then try to charge you three to four times as much these

[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_00]: are the horror stories I've heard from other people on the local Facebook

[00:41:24] [SPEAKER_00]: group so James Richter how are you good to have you this is my man Howdy

[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_00]: always good to have you so yes heating systems good plumbing pipes your

[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_00]: plumbing system only really a couple of things here yes yeah that's true

[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Hunter said if you have bad allergies duct cleaning will run you

[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_00]: ragged yeah it's not worth it again that's my big thing it's like

[00:41:46] [SPEAKER_00]: for me I I mean when the pollen and everything's out I'm a mess some years

[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why some years I am some years I'm not but again I don't like

[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_00]: dealing with us because I do have allergies and it just beats the shit

[00:41:59] [SPEAKER_00]: out of you so if you can hire somebody let them do it so plumbing

[00:42:02] [SPEAKER_00]: pipes make sure no rodents have gotten down in and chewed out your

[00:42:06] [SPEAKER_00]: insulation that's a big deal you just got to look out depend on where you

[00:42:11] [SPEAKER_00]: live right test your heating tape so if you have those heat tracers

[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_00]: installed now is the time you got to crawl under a trailer or you know go

[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_00]: into a crawl space somewhere go down and first off look because a lot of them

[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_00]: have lights if lights working you're probably good but turn them on see if

[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_00]: they heat up because the last thing again you want to do is be replacing

[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it when it's minus 25 out there and look for areas where air can

[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_00]: infiltrate so there's some trailers that I look after occasionally that

[00:42:39] [SPEAKER_00]: are in pretty rough shape and sometimes you'll find cats and dogs

[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_00]: kind of dug under the trailer and all of a sudden they'll have made a big gap

[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_00]: where air can get in that is the worst so if you can just create some kind of

[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_00]: barrier put some insulation up just keep an eye out snail Creek Mike from

[00:42:55] [SPEAKER_00]: snail Creek said furnace fresh air intake seen a wasp coming out today

[00:43:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and had a nest in it oh that's miserable I always hate dealing with

[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_00]: nests in enclosed spaces but if you've ever seen my videos on the

[00:43:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Redneck Hornet and wasp nest killer that thing's awesome we made a shop vac

[00:43:14] [SPEAKER_00]: with water 12 foot length ABS pipe and you can suck the entire nest up and

[00:43:21] [SPEAKER_00]: stay far enough back that you're got a reasonable assurance of being safe

[00:43:26] [SPEAKER_00]: let's just put it that way but yes so keep an eye out for that that's

[00:43:29] [SPEAKER_00]: miserable poor guy next thing get your gutters cleaned so yes again

[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_00]: don't wait until things freeze two thoughts on gutters because I've cleaned

[00:43:39] [SPEAKER_00]: a lot of gutters over the last half decade first off wait until all of your

[00:43:44] [SPEAKER_00]: leaves have fell or almost all of your leaves have fallen that's big because

[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_00]: what I've seen is I've had people call me in say hey Tim can you clean my

[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_00]: gutters yep I'll clean your gutters so you go and do it and then two three

[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_00]: weeks later the rest of the leaves fall and then they get blocked off

[00:43:59] [SPEAKER_00]: again and then they have to call you back so wait as long as you can

[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_00]: for us we've got about this two-week window when the leaves have

[00:44:05] [SPEAKER_00]: fallen but it's not too cold that things freeze solid so here's the next

[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_00]: thing try to wait for a warm day first off okay but secondly do it before

[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_00]: things are freezing really hard overnight but if it does happen try to

[00:44:21] [SPEAKER_00]: pick a warm day and wait till the afternoon and then chase the Sun if

[00:44:25] [SPEAKER_00]: you can so you know do the south side first or whatever it happens to

[00:44:28] [SPEAKER_00]: be but work with the Sun because I've run into two things if you've got

[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_00]: leaves piled in there that kind of insulate it things don't thaw nearly as

[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_00]: quick and then you got a bead on it with a hammer and the last thing you

[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_00]: want to do is put holes in that thin little aluminum gutter and speaking of

[00:44:44] [SPEAKER_00]: gutter I have an appointment I'm having a seamless gutter put on my

[00:44:47] [SPEAKER_00]: house so that way I don't have to crawl up there and doing it again

[00:44:52] [SPEAKER_00]: hunter says speaking of windows gaps on windows doors vents high-tech

[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_00]: walk around with a candle yes that's true because it'll either blow

[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_00]: it or kind of try to suck it in a little bit and that's a poor man's way

[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_00]: to find you know gaps or air infiltration great idea great tip hunter

[00:45:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I love that if you want to spend money on something you can buy those

[00:45:14] [SPEAKER_00]: draft strips you can they kind of they make a bit of they're almost like an

[00:45:18] [SPEAKER_00]: incense stick that's what I'm trying to spit out there guys sorry and it

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_00]: all the smoke that comes off and will follow and it'll show you where

[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_00]: you have you know air infiltration John says pull your gutters off and

[00:45:29] [SPEAKER_00]: you never have to clean them again that is a pro tip right there and I

[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_00]: almost yeah I'm gonna laugh at that a little bit it's funny but you're right

[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_00]: John but I pulled mine off last fall with the intentions of putting them

[00:45:42] [SPEAKER_00]: back up once I got the fascia the white aluminum fascia put up got the

[00:45:46] [SPEAKER_00]: fascia put up never got my gutters put back on what ended up happening

[00:45:49] [SPEAKER_00]: was the sides of the house turned into an ice rink so for us yeah

[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_00]: anyway needs to get up this year it's one of the last items to get

[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_00]: done for sure clean your yard up like I said anything that John's been there

[00:46:04] [SPEAKER_00]: too anything that gets frozen is gonna stay there all winter so get that

[00:46:08] [SPEAKER_00]: stuff up and off the ground before year before things freeze give it one

[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_00]: last mo mo it fairly short for the fall clean all the leaves and the

[00:46:17] [SPEAKER_00]: debris up the best you can if you're a fall fertilizing kind of guy

[00:46:20] [SPEAKER_00]: do it I don't know I don't know if many people are in here or not

[00:46:23] [SPEAKER_00]: but if you're gonna get that done and then here's something else you can do

[00:46:27] [SPEAKER_00]: limbs so wait till the leaves fall off to trim your limbs so if you've got

[00:46:31] [SPEAKER_00]: limbs that are rubbing up against the house or weighing things down pay

[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_00]: attention to which ones they are but once the leaves fall off they're way

[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_00]: easier to get trimmed cut down pulled out of the way it just makes

[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_00]: your life a lot easier so go around trim your limbs after the leaves

[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_00]: fall off that's just one of those pro tips I've picked up over the years

[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_00]: and then of course do not forget about your generator you guys know I couldn't

[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_00]: go through a repairedness episode without mentioning generator could I

[00:46:59] [SPEAKER_00]: run it test it make sure it's gonna run because I was listening to the

[00:47:04] [SPEAKER_00]: survival podcast the other day there was a lady on there who had a cabin up

[00:47:08] [SPEAKER_00]: in Alaska a dry cabin where she didn't have water pumped in and she said

[00:47:12] [SPEAKER_00]: guaranteed your generator is going to break down or quit whenever the

[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_00]: coldest so make sure you've done your testing for your generator I like to do

[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_00]: my yearly service in the fall I don't put enough hours on my generator to

[00:47:26] [SPEAKER_00]: need to change you know do oil changes and that sort of stuff more often than

[00:47:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that so first off you're gonna change your oil just like you do with

[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_00]: anything get rid of that old guy and if you've only put one hour on your

[00:47:38] [SPEAKER_00]: generator in the last year change your oil anyway just cheap cheap cheap

[00:47:42] [SPEAKER_00]: insurance because you want that thing to be there when you want it change

[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_00]: spark plug and again I know that this is kind of repetitive but I want you to

[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_00]: hear it inspect for damages I never thought you know I never used to do that

[00:47:54] [SPEAKER_00]: then all of a sudden I put my generator away and I looked and the

[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_00]: heat shield on the exhaust had was loose it was flapping it was missing

[00:48:04] [SPEAKER_00]: two screws two screws had completely vibrated out one fell down through

[00:48:07] [SPEAKER_00]: the crack in the deck and I found one so I had to find had to replace

[00:48:11] [SPEAKER_00]: one anyway but just take a minute after you're done running your

[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_00]: give it an inspection give it a good cleaning so wash it down use break

[00:48:19] [SPEAKER_00]: clean to get rid of any exhaust residue because what I find is if you spill gas

[00:48:23] [SPEAKER_00]: or you got exhaust coming out somewhere the dust and debris is gonna

[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_00]: collect there so use break clean wipe it down save some rags you can just

[00:48:30] [SPEAKER_00]: throw it when you're done inspect and clean the air filter again make

[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_00]: sure no mice decided hey this is a great place to winter and then you go

[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_00]: to start it up and you've got no airflow because well you know little

[00:48:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and her husband and her three little mice babies are all in there and well you

[00:48:45] [SPEAKER_00]: know the rest of the story hook it up and run the host off it too so if

[00:48:49] [SPEAKER_00]: you're gonna what however you're gonna use it in your scenario test it ahead

[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_00]: of time make sure your whole system is working Dan says I can't bring this

[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_00]: what's over on telegram but I'm gonna read it to you guys he says I

[00:49:03] [SPEAKER_00]: hate pumpkin spice he says fall is the cancer that slowly kills the life

[00:49:07] [SPEAKER_00]: summer and throws us into the cold death of winter I hate fall poor Dan yes I

[00:49:13] [SPEAKER_00]: understand I I enjoy the weather but we have a very short fall in Alberta so

[00:49:18] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah it's not very good so I figured the last segment I wanted to talk about

[00:49:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and this has been on my mind for about three or four weeks now so who

[00:49:29] [SPEAKER_00]: out there has lingering projects on the go I know I do I always so half

[00:49:36] [SPEAKER_00]: the fun you guys know in the winter is you know whatever if we're homesteaders

[00:49:39] [SPEAKER_00]: planning our garden planning what livestock we're gonna get you know we

[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_00]: live in town it's like okay what projects are we're gonna do to you

[00:49:45] [SPEAKER_00]: know improve our self-sufficiency to enjoy you know to help improve our

[00:49:50] [SPEAKER_00]: enjoyment of our property and I make I make lists I that's what gets me

[00:49:55] [SPEAKER_00]: through the doldrums of winter and then as soon as summer spring hits I

[00:49:59] [SPEAKER_00]: start working on my projects but this year I found I have lingering

[00:50:03] [SPEAKER_00]: projects that are kind of hanging over me like I don't know like a noose or

[00:50:06] [SPEAKER_00]: something so I thought I would share my process the last couple of weeks on

[00:50:13] [SPEAKER_00]: figuring out how to get these lingering projects knocked out without

[00:50:18] [SPEAKER_00]: procrastinating and with focusing on the priority so if anybody else out

[00:50:21] [SPEAKER_00]: there has got lingering projects you haven't got done for summer yet I'm

[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_00]: sure you have but let me know in the comments because I'm sure we're in

[00:50:29] [SPEAKER_00]: boat here guys but first thing you got to admit to yourself and something that I

[00:50:36] [SPEAKER_00]: have to admit to myself is I tend to over plan if I have say 17 hours of

[00:50:44] [SPEAKER_00]: work to do I plan 16 and a half hours worth of work which means I have

[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_00]: almost no no give no leeway if anything goes sideways Yozik over on

[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_00]: says his lingering project is a motorcycle rebuild it's my winter

[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_00]: project if not done in the fall so yes we got projects to do but I do tend to

[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_00]: you know if I know a project is going to take a month I allow a month for it

[00:51:11] [SPEAKER_00]: and I probably should allow a little more time but the problem is if I get

[00:51:13] [SPEAKER_00]: it done quicker I end up not being too productive with my time so first

[00:51:19] [SPEAKER_00]: thing we need to do is admit to ourselves at least I need to that I

[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_00]: should and that's totally totally fine now I do typically get everything done

[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but it's usually pretty close I'm usually working the last couple of jobs

[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_00]: just before it gets too cold to finish and with the daycare this year and

[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_00]: the big grant we got in all the work we're doing it's just filled up my

[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_00]: time a little more but that's totally fine so what did I do I made a list

[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_00]: of all the projects I haven't gotten done yet you know I'm looking at a

[00:51:53] [SPEAKER_00]: John says he usually this is good he usually plans five hours of work for

[00:51:58] [SPEAKER_00]: plans five hour oh right John says I usually plan five hours for ten hours

[00:52:03] [SPEAKER_00]: of work I get it that were yeah you know what did red green say I'm a man

[00:52:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I can change I guess so yeah it is what it is so I made a list of the

[00:52:14] [SPEAKER_00]: projects I need to get finished one is roofing the garage I also needed to

[00:52:20] [SPEAKER_00]: my rebuild my driveway I needed to pull up all my grass to get ready for

[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_00]: sawed guess what I got the driveway done I got the grass pulled up so I'm

[00:52:30] [SPEAKER_00]: ready for sawed I need to order the metal I need I went down and I booked

[00:52:34] [SPEAKER_00]: getting the gutters put up on the house so I made a list of everything I

[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_00]: needed to done then the next thing I did and hopefully this helps is I

[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_00]: figured out which ones were weather contingent so I need to get those

[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_00]: gutters up before things freeze perfect I need to get the sod down as

[00:52:49] [SPEAKER_00]: soon as I can so that it has a fighting chance to make it through the

[00:52:52] [SPEAKER_00]: winter that needs to be done sooner rather than later so I did and then I

[00:52:56] [SPEAKER_00]: ordered the sod and they said sorry it'll be two weeks not two days like

[00:52:59] [SPEAKER_00]: it normally is okay well I got to deal with it but the roof on my

[00:53:03] [SPEAKER_00]: garage that can wait till November that can wait till just before the

[00:53:06] [SPEAKER_00]: snow flies so that's at the very end of my list I have a deck I want to

[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_00]: build in the backyard yeah I know another deck but that's okay that can

[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_00]: be done anywhere in between it's not weather contingent but I'd like to have

[00:53:19] [SPEAKER_00]: it done before the ground freezes just so I can dig if I need to dig so kind

[00:53:23] [SPEAKER_00]: of figure all of that out so you know number one make a list of all the

[00:53:28] [SPEAKER_00]: lingering projects you have left I find just putting things on paper

[00:53:30] [SPEAKER_00]: makes you feel better makes me get a little more productive then number two

[00:53:34] [SPEAKER_00]: figure out which ones are weather contingent and then figure them in

[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_00]: from the thing that needs to get done now to the thing that can be

[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_00]: put off until the snow almost flies next thing you want to do is look at

[00:53:45] [SPEAKER_00]: your schedule okay and be honest don't over commit but how many weekends do I

[00:53:50] [SPEAKER_00]: have to get this shit done how many evenings do I have to get this shit

[00:53:53] [SPEAKER_00]: done figure that out then be realistic is this job an evening job you know

[00:54:01] [SPEAKER_00]: or now building this deck last summer would have been an all weekend job

[00:54:05] [SPEAKER_00]: now with a new the stand-up screwdriver and the new that the

[00:54:10] [SPEAKER_00]: added experience that I have it's now only a day job so I know you know a

[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_00]: day and I am done so figure out how much time you're gonna have figure out

[00:54:18] [SPEAKER_00]: how many weekends you have figure out what order the remaining jobs have to

[00:54:22] [SPEAKER_00]: get done and then fit them into your schedule accordingly to me that has

[00:54:28] [SPEAKER_00]: helped so much it just just making actually I would say about two weeks

[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_00]: ago Becky and I sat down and I made we made a schedule together because I

[00:54:38] [SPEAKER_00]: needed to get it out of my brain and figure out okay this is how much

[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I have left this is what I'm gonna get done before the snow flies let's make

[00:54:45] [SPEAKER_00]: a list and then here's the other thing it is okay to not finish everything in

[00:54:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the summer I've got to admit that to myself because sometimes I don't always

[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_00]: do it sometimes I kick my own butt and I say Tim why didn't you get this

[00:55:01] [SPEAKER_00]: done I don't want to have to sit all winter and look at that and think

[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_00]: one more day and it would have got it done but sometimes you got to take

[00:55:08] [SPEAKER_00]: a good hard look at your schedule and say I'm not gonna get it done so then

[00:55:14] [SPEAKER_00]: you got a triage you got to say okay what is the most important what's the

[00:55:17] [SPEAKER_00]: thing I want to get done before the winter John Palmer says what no

[00:55:22] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely yeah it does suck I know sometimes we just have to admit to

[00:55:26] [SPEAKER_00]: ourselves that we're not gonna get everything done that we wanted to get

[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_00]: done I have a feeling that my sidewalk I had planned this summer to

[00:55:37] [SPEAKER_00]: teach myself how to run concrete and make a nice new walkway up beside the

[00:55:41] [SPEAKER_00]: house I don't think that's gonna get done this year part of that was the

[00:55:47] [SPEAKER_00]: skid steer I borrowed couldn't get under the existing concrete that was

[00:55:51] [SPEAKER_00]: there I thought it was completely rotten so I got to come up with a

[00:55:54] [SPEAKER_00]: new plan but besides that I've got enough jobs that this can wait until

[00:55:59] [SPEAKER_00]: next winter if I can get the eaves trough the gutters up or at least

[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_00]: hire somebody to do that then I know that's okay so that's probably

[00:56:06] [SPEAKER_00]: going to be the job that drops off my list but I do know that I wanted to get

[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_00]: my driveway done get the sod done in the backyard I want to get a roof on

[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_00]: the garage and I want to get that last piece of deck done in the

[00:56:17] [SPEAKER_00]: backyard and I know I've got enough time to get all that done before I

[00:56:20] [SPEAKER_00]: head down south to Pripper camp and self-reliance festival which I am

[00:56:25] [SPEAKER_00]: stoked about but anyway that's a whole other story for another day so yeah

[00:56:29] [SPEAKER_00]: that's what we got to do take a good long hard look at your projects

[00:56:33] [SPEAKER_00]: make a list of what's left figure out what's weather contingent look at how

[00:56:37] [SPEAKER_00]: many days you've got left in your schedule be honest with yourself about

[00:56:41] [SPEAKER_00]: the items how long it's going to take you to do each fit them into that

[00:56:46] [SPEAKER_00]: schedule and whatever is not a priority bump it off your schedule

[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_00]: for this year that's it guys that that's it and you know we tend to

[00:56:54] [SPEAKER_00]: take on projects we want to get so much done we love the nice weather

[00:56:58] [SPEAKER_00]: and I hate to say that that four letter white stuff is coming soon but it will

[00:57:03] [SPEAKER_00]: for us I don't know some of you may not not even get any of that frozen

[00:57:07] [SPEAKER_00]: variety of the liquid precipitation but we're gonna I can't fight it and I

[00:57:11] [SPEAKER_00]: got to be ready for it so I've got so much time to get my jobs done and

[00:57:15] [SPEAKER_00]: that is it so I hope you guys enjoyed this this was fun I hadn't

[00:57:21] [SPEAKER_00]: done a repaired in this episode in probably a month last week's episode

[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_00]: was hugely popular with the I was gonna say five gallon bucket the

[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_00]: milk crate episode last week that was great did five gallon bucket episode

[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_00]: we got it so I got this entire series of empty container episodes

[00:57:38] [SPEAKER_00]: planned for you guys now we did some brainstorming over on telegram and in

[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_00]: YouTube comments and so yeah I've got a few we're gonna do mason jars

[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_00]: we're gonna do 55 gallon drums we're gonna do IBC totes and I got a

[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_00]: couple other ones in there but anyway so I'm kind of excited about

[00:57:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I got a bunch of different series in the works just a matter of when I put them

[00:57:57] [SPEAKER_00]: all together so many cool ideas for so many shows we'll keep working on it you

[00:58:03] [SPEAKER_00]: know I've got a I've got a series that I've been mulling over it could be a

[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_00]: year before I put it all together but the the history of prepping is gonna

[00:58:09] [SPEAKER_00]: be a good one oh nice Mike from Snail Creek homestead said he'd get

[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_00]: his ticket for self-reliance can't wait I can't wait to meet you again

[00:58:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I was gonna say for the first time but we already met once which was

[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_00]: great and if you guys are gonna be there come by and check me out I

[00:58:22] [SPEAKER_00]: love meeting people in real life so I'm trying something really cool I'll

[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_00]: announce it now if you saw I only posted on Instagram I got 100 patches

[00:58:34] [SPEAKER_00]: there are the velcro patches but they're a die-cut patch of the toolman

[00:58:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Tim's workshop I'm gonna take them with me to Prepper Camp and

[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Self-reliance Festival they're gonna be ten bucks apiece but which is

[00:58:46] [SPEAKER_00]: that's the price I sell my patches for period but we're gonna be doing a

[00:58:49] [SPEAKER_00]: giveaway so I talked to Coast Flashlights they're gonna be given away

[00:58:52] [SPEAKER_00]: their top-of-the-line headlamp the model number escapes me right at the

[00:58:56] [SPEAKER_00]: moment but it's over 2,000 lumens and it is a hundred dollar headlamps so

[00:59:03] [SPEAKER_00]: that's gonna be in there I'm gonna be giving away a year subscription to

[00:59:05] [SPEAKER_00]: the patch of the month club I'm working on two or three other

[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_00]: sponsors to have in there so you're gonna be able to buy a patch for the

[00:59:11] [SPEAKER_00]: regular price but you're gonna have there's only gonna be 100 of them

[00:59:15] [SPEAKER_00]: being sold if I have any left I'll bring them back and sell them to you

[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_00]: but right now they're gonna only be sold in person it's gonna be a hundred of

[00:59:21] [SPEAKER_00]: them once they're sold that's it we're gonna do the draws and I'm gonna give

[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_00]: away as much cool shit as I can because I just love to do giveaways and

[00:59:30] [SPEAKER_00]: John Palmer says do you miss me when I can't make it absolutely and Yossic

[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_00]: just put up his fall projects here fall projects before winter trim

[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_00]: trees off garage fix gutter on the back of garage reattach some gutters

[00:59:43] [SPEAKER_00]: where those giant nails aren't holding anymore plant a couple apple

[00:59:47] [SPEAKER_00]: trees two more raised garden beds and I'm sure there's about five more I just

[00:59:51] [SPEAKER_00]: don't know about yet so your list gets things added to it just like my

[00:59:56] [SPEAKER_00]: list does I understand oh and Hunter says whoo-hoo my mason jar handle

[01:00:01] [SPEAKER_00]: just finished printing yeah hunter did some 3d printed mason jar handles but

[01:00:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna shoot for every month the two months doing one of those empty

[01:00:09] [SPEAKER_00]: container series they're huge people seem to love them but I don't want

[01:00:12] [SPEAKER_00]: them to overstay their welcome so we'll get them out there as we go a

[01:00:16] [SPEAKER_00]: lot of cool yeah anyway I've got so many cool show ideas coming up I can't

[01:00:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and won't do a fourth episode a week not for a while yet not until I'm once

[01:00:26] [SPEAKER_00]: this once this business has taken off to the point where there's enough

[01:00:32] [SPEAKER_00]: income coming in that I can eliminate a few other things then I'll probably

[01:00:36] [SPEAKER_00]: go five days a week at some point but that's probably well whatever I

[01:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: will share my yearly goals in December with you for 2023 where

[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: we're heading but you know what real quick update I set two goals this year

[01:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: for content creation and hunter says side disregard it doesn't fit damn it

[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: that's the problem with 3d printed stuff but so I I set a goal this year

[01:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: for 10,000 subscribers on YouTube now numbers don't mean everything but to

[01:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: me there's something I'm probably not gonna hit it but you know what is

[01:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna happen in the next week I'm probably gonna hit 5,000 now if I'd

[01:01:13] [SPEAKER_00]: set a goal for 5,000 subscribers well you know what I may or may not have made it

[01:01:19] [SPEAKER_00]: who knows I don't know whether I'd worked hard at it or not but I'd have

[01:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: made it and that had been it but right now I've been pushing hard and I

[01:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: got four months to go to hit my 10,000 whether I do or I don't doesn't

[01:01:30] [SPEAKER_00]: matter and also set a goal to have a thousand listens per episode on the

[01:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: podcast and we are a hell of a lot closer to that I've actually had some

[01:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: episodes that have made a thousand downloads in the first week so thank

[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: you guys you guys are supporting me you're getting the word out apparently

[01:01:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing something right because there's enough people out there really

[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: enjoying it so thank you guys I really appreciate it if it weren't for you I

[01:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: wouldn't be here so alright guys I believe that is it let's see what do we

[01:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: got coming up this week number one on the prepper broadcast network

[01:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: tomorrow is Carl 80 Brown with a strange truth where he talks about

[01:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Christianity and the news stories that most other people don't want to touch

[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: on Monday is Phil and Andrew the matter of facts podcast you guys don't follow

[01:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: them they are entertaining always enjoy them and Phil is starting to give him

[01:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: some support over on Instagram and a few other places he's really dabbling

[01:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: into the shorts and like the tick-tock kind of stuff so get over

[01:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: there following on all the socials if you can and Tuesday is Ryan and Colin

[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Buford of the next generation podcast Ryan will be on our show here in a

[01:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: few weeks gonna be great to have him be his third appearance on the workshop

[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: podcast and what do we got Saturday I'm not 100% sure yet but I believe

[01:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Saturday is gonna be a Saturday morning live stream it's gonna be great to

[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: have just moving things around a little bit so that I can enjoy some

[01:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: family time and get a couple of big projects done so it's probably gonna

[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_00]: be a Saturday morning live stream and it's gonna be a this week in the

[01:03:01] [SPEAKER_00]: workshop I've done a shit ton of stuff I want to update you on and

[01:03:05] [SPEAKER_00]: let you know there's just so many things on the go and I'll probably

[01:03:09] [SPEAKER_00]: answer some community questions do some community feedback while we're at it

[01:03:12] [SPEAKER_00]: so Saturday is probably gonna be a morning episode but Sunday evening you

[01:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: do not want to miss John Willis from special operations equipment that's

[01:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna be on live and we're gonna be talking tools he is a man that loves

[01:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: his tools so it's gonna be a lot of fun I can almost guarantee you

[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I love talking to John so if you want to have a good entertaining time come

[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: by Saturday Sunday evening 7 p.m. Mountain Time it's gonna be great all
