[00:00:04] You're listening here to pay the end
[00:00:09] Your path back to stability here
[00:01:17] Good morning PBN, we'll see if sound stays today. It's good to have you on this
[00:01:24] Saturday morning it is a little dreary and rainy here on the east coast but that
[00:01:31] never stops anything in the Phoenix household. What are we doing now? I've had
[00:01:39] chaos with the chickens, a new fox that took the head off of one of them,
[00:01:44] something bigger, took an entire bird out of the pen so that is fun especially
[00:01:48] before prepper camp coming up. We are trying to get ready to make sure the
[00:01:54] chickens will be fine for the next few days, or sorry for a few days while we are
[00:01:59] away at camp. We have a gravity feeder that we are constructing, a large water
[00:02:06] container in which water should auto-fill their little bowls once we get
[00:02:12] a couple little kinks out of that one.
[00:02:17] Elsewise, how are you this Saturday morning?
[00:02:21] So like I said, prepper camp is coming very very soon which means if you plan on going to
[00:02:29] prepper camp and you have not gotten your ticket you have until the 10th.
[00:02:33] That's right, the 10th. After that you might be able to purchase off the
[00:02:37] Facebook site in which someone can't make it and they're trying to sell
[00:02:41] their ticket but good luck. It always sells out before date.
[00:02:46] So let's see here, my cup of hot water. I am currently up to the brim in task and
[00:03:03] chores between the daily housework which has fallen a bit to the wayside
[00:03:12] for making some, not making jayfuerks to bring the camp this year just because of
[00:03:18] time. I have drop pouches speaking in which to my listener if you are listening
[00:03:25] I have not forgotten you thank you for being kind and understanding that I'm
[00:03:29] trying to knock out several things at once and we'll have those orders out
[00:03:32] soon. I have dump pouches I have a new couple new items I am excited to
[00:03:39] share with people. I will call one my vacuum cleaner bag which essentially
[00:03:44] looks like the old bag you would put in a vacuum but it turns into expands into
[00:03:49] a very large duffel or reusable shopping bag here you can use it any way you'd
[00:03:55] like. I did start attaching elastic on the end so you can roll them out so they
[00:04:00] don't take up a lot of space when they're not in use. I have some great
[00:04:05] bags. I have made, I will have a couple variety of both acrylic and wool beanies
[00:04:14] like traditional beanies. I have some washcloths and face scrubbies. It's I
[00:04:21] think the booth this year will be well. I am definitely interested in seeing
[00:04:26] everybody that is one of those things where it feels like proper camp itself
[00:04:32] is family. We will have I'm pretty sure the tin full hat judging contest. We've
[00:04:39] started a few years back. I'm just checking my updates I promise you it's
[00:04:53] just been one of those days I've actually been up since 4 a.m. I've tried to
[00:05:00] sleep and then I laid back down and fell asleep for about 30 minutes now
[00:05:04] I'm here. So I'm not as well organized as I'd like to be. I have been...
[00:05:14] My brain really isn't working. I probably should have just called it a no today but we shall see.
[00:05:24] I'm very interested to see if maybe the sound going out was just a fluke on my
[00:05:33] end or if it's gonna do it again. Okay so how are we getting ready for proper camp this year?
[00:05:42] I'm just gonna make this a proper camp episode. Love Rick and Jane amazing people love the people
[00:05:46] who are there. Chinn, a lot of other hosts. Sarah, James will all be there. Ryan Buford
[00:05:55] I mean you've got to check it out. This is Phil and Andrew. They they this is all in a family thing.
[00:06:03] It has now become we're not just friends we're family but how do we get ready? Well this year
[00:06:09] instead of having an infant with us we will have a toddler so that definitely changes it
[00:06:19] because I'm trying to think how we got ready for camp last year. We had an infant, a literally a
[00:06:26] month old infant and a service dog with us which our service dog has passed. You will not be with
[00:06:33] us this year. We have decided to hold off on another service animal until we can get moved.
[00:06:42] Our goal is to essentially get out of Myrtle Beach
[00:06:49] as quickly as we can. So that's that's taken a little time. I see I'm trying to think how to
[00:07:00] meet because he was so small. I want to say he actually was this year we have a pack and play
[00:07:15] for him. He will have his own little area. We have fans so he can stay cool because down in the
[00:07:25] marketplace it is some drag sun that's why we have our pop-ups. We'll have our tents.
[00:07:32] Oh for those of you who are coming don't forget to stop by the Intrepid Commander's booth.
[00:07:39] We will always have some disaster coffee on the ready.
[00:07:45] At Dave Jones will be there this year. I'm excited. I'm excited to see everybody. It will be
[00:07:53] so much fun. I'm interested to see what vendors we're going to have this year
[00:07:57] to watch the classes. We have set it out once I get my printer inked to print out the schedule
[00:08:05] and mark out what classes I'd like to take this year so between me and my partner
[00:08:11] Chris and I will both be taking turns on watching the booth and being able to attend
[00:08:15] classes because we've already expressed hey I'd like to do this one this year.
[00:08:20] We have some friends coming this year as well so it's interesting to see how the prepping
[00:08:27] community amongst ourselves as well as in a whole is continuing to grow.
[00:08:33] I forgot Bill's never stopped for anyone. You know what we could talk about all the chaos
[00:08:51] going on in the world but honestly it's not worth it. We're gonna hear something about
[00:08:56] the election or somebody doing something and honestly when it comes down to it you need
[00:09:01] to be protecting your family. You need to be doing what it needs what you need to do to look
[00:09:08] out for them because I can tell you right now nobody else is looking out for you.
[00:09:13] All right we look out for each other as much as we can but when it comes down to in prepping
[00:09:20] do you have enough goods in your house? I have actually been looking into a lot more
[00:09:26] pressure cannon. I've been putting down some recipes that I'd like to try so after camp
[00:09:33] I really hope to focus on my food storage again trying to get things where I need to have them.
[00:09:43] I'll pay that bill in a minute sorry I'm looking at it on my screen and it's just
[00:09:54] some things just have to wait a moment. So you know what are your preps?
[00:10:02] That you what are your goals for the upcoming season? I know for us I would like to get more
[00:10:10] ahead. Good morning that nob how are you? I plan on getting ahead on my food storage
[00:10:17] on food preservation because what I'm running into is with a toddler and you know who is now
[00:10:27] enjoying table food along with us I now have to plan our meals a little differently. Now
[00:10:37] not too differently I may not put as much spice in them just because I don't want to burn his mouth
[00:10:43] you know he's very small his system is still very fresh. What I'm running into the convenience
[00:10:50] of giving your child packaged food versus food that is safe to eat and what I mean by that is in our
[00:10:58] house we have tried to go into a soy free mine frame one because I'm allergic to soy and two
[00:11:09] the amount of estrogen it can produce in a body and then three it's literally in everything
[00:11:15] okay it's a little excessive and now we broke down and we we did give our son something that later
[00:11:24] I kind of kicked myself in the butt for he enjoyed it I don't know anyone who didn't enjoy raviolis in
[00:11:30] one point or another in their life but it really made me think of having foods or meals
[00:11:38] not only for myself but especially for our son that is safe to eat and easy enough to be able
[00:11:46] to pull out of the cabinet and put together in the same you know in the same instance as
[00:11:53] opening that can of ravioli and being able to heat it up so being able to put up some chicken
[00:11:59] and gravy with the potatoes and vegetables that I can easily turn into chicken noodle soup or
[00:12:05] chicken over rice or chicken and gravy or even chicken and dumplings like it's one of those things
[00:12:12] where one thing can easily make multiple things and everybody enjoys so that is really the goal
[00:12:21] for after camp after I finished all of these sewing and crocheting projects like I'm I'm
[00:12:26] speaking to you right now as I'm crocheting it is one of those things where it's really hit me
[00:12:33] that I am the only one myself my partner you for your family and the only one who's looking out
[00:12:42] for the health and well-being of my own child yes don't get me wrong I'm not shaming you if
[00:12:48] you know you like a can of raviolis that's great but again I can't have that and it is dangerous
[00:12:55] to have soy in the house yes I've been exposed to quite a bit of soy that my allergy has
[00:13:00] gotten worse over the years I'm sure in some levels it's I can deal with it but it's just easier to
[00:13:09] remove that item than to play the risk oh so that note is in the group and he says after we get our
[00:13:21] solar project done I think I will start saving up for a freeze driver true freeze driver that
[00:13:26] note that is actually one of those items that is on my want list every year it is not something
[00:13:33] we can afford anytime soon but I would love to have one so now I have to until we can get a
[00:13:41] freeze dryer have to look at ways of being able to store food in ways outside of that so I have
[00:13:51] my dehydrator I have my freezer I have my canner my my water bath canner my pressure canner so I am
[00:14:00] looking at ways of that which is funny that you say that because that's another thing oh I'm so jealous
[00:14:07] so jealous I need someone in my area with a freeze dryer that if you don't mind if I could rent
[00:14:13] it out you know to process a few things some food I mean especially some eggs of course it's
[00:14:19] your food but yes that would be nice it would be very very nice but we do use a dehydrator I will
[00:14:29] make I'll dehydrate some fruit I will the big one my neighbor has never had homemade beef jerky
[00:14:38] or jerky period if I could get my hand on some venison or had the ability to go hunting this
[00:14:44] year I would do it in a heartbeat so well I am going to go to the store I will buy some beef I'll
[00:14:50] slice it up and I am going to show her how to make homemade beef jerky because who doesn't
[00:14:57] love jerky the problem we run into is most jerky in the store is processed with soybean oil or
[00:15:05] lots and lots of sugar people don't realize how much sugar is actually put in store bought
[00:15:12] jerky versus the natural process that now what is your solar project I would love to hear it or
[00:15:21] if you don't mind sharing that I would love to hear this project if you would like to share
[00:15:37] with the group if not feel free to let me know that is another thing I have noticed some very
[00:15:46] odd temps for August this year typically August does not get super cold and we have been seen to
[00:15:54] put your stop now don't get me wrong it's still spiking up but I am suspecting that we are going
[00:16:01] to have a very harsh winter this year in which case another goal of mine is not only one to get
[00:16:16] that I can sell enough goods either online or at camp this year to be able to invest in that
[00:16:32] also I don't know if that enough is listening or not I see oh not this that enough and mad dog
[00:16:49] good morning mad dog how are you so oh speaking of which I will not only be doing prepper camp this
[00:16:59] year I will also be driving out to a event in Camden Tennessee the weekend after there is a
[00:17:12] prepper event that weekend as well I don't have it at the top of my head I'd have to go
[00:17:17] text I will not be teaching a class but I will be teaching from the booth on how to spend well
[00:17:25] I will have some kits with me I've decided this year for prepper camp I'm not going to bring as
[00:17:30] many kits um this year next year I will have my normal stock of them just because I was limited
[00:17:38] on time and funds which normally I have the kits made up pretty pretty quickly but
[00:17:43] um with a toddler and life's demands it kind of kind of derails it just a little but I will have
[00:17:51] those restocked and I will have those as options for people to purchase from my Instagram or my
[00:17:56] site that I'm still let's see so a two times ekeg for 18 kilogram inverter and two times
[00:18:07] 14.3 k batteries to use the whole home backup until we get the solar panels installed
[00:18:13] oh that's right that's right you're going solar I am jealous that is that is an investment
[00:18:19] and that is a setup speaking of which if you are not part of PBN's chats on element you should
[00:18:28] join it if you're not a part of the members look into it I think right now um does anyone know
[00:18:36] I see is still running the uh 250 for life membership I know he is also offset and those who
[00:18:47] have a membership if you've already renewed he's taken up uh taken a bit off
[00:18:56] I don't know what it is but we have ran into an invasion of gnats which we it happens every
[00:19:04] year around this time out of nowhere the gnats just become insane that I have had to try different
[00:19:13] techniques to capture them all and this is going to sound horrible but I will take I've done the
[00:19:24] gnat traps I've done apple cider vinegar I've used kombucha which my kombucha has died I no
[00:19:31] longer have kombucha anymore I'm sorry melinda Lee I tried I held on for as long as possible with
[00:19:37] it but sometimes it gets you I have found a way to get the gnats in one spot don't get all of them
[00:19:47] but it has knocked down their number expedition x exponentially um I have taken one of my son's
[00:19:56] dirty diapers stuck it in one of our little trash bags at the bottom of the trash can
[00:20:03] where it is the only diaper in there maybe I'll throw in a second wet diaper and all I have to do
[00:20:10] or did was leave it for the day not trying to feed these gnats but I'm trying to draw them in
[00:20:18] and I leave the tuffs of the bag out in a way that I can easily grab them shut
[00:20:25] and um you know what it's funny that you say that uh that nub says get an indoor bugs ever
[00:20:31] a weave actually looked at doing that I have to get one but right now our car is in the shop so
[00:20:37] I can and we only have the one vehicle so we are well he has his work truck we are kind
[00:20:44] limited on what I can and can't do I've had to resort to delivery drop off so I don't like it
[00:20:54] I don't like it at all but I have taken that diaper and believe it or not in one day the amount of
[00:21:01] gnats I captured that had gone down to the bottom of the bag that I was able to close it
[00:21:06] and tie it shut I mean there was over 40 gnats in there which sounds ridiculous it may not be
[00:21:13] but it seemed like it but that's what happens here in Myrtle Beach is around this time every year you
[00:21:19] will either deal with flies coming out of nowhere which we found out can come out of the drains
[00:21:24] it's known to happen pretty commonly here and that's something people will tell you but they don't
[00:21:30] tell you it's it's worse as it's the gnats that you'll sometimes get the flies but the gnats
[00:21:35] is the worst so we have found I have found that has worked to the point that I only have maybe like
[00:21:46] a singular net somehow made it into each room which is fine I can deal with one that versus
[00:21:54] a dozen gnats but apparently it is very common so look into when you move somewhere
[00:22:00] what that common pest is in the south in Mississippi and Arkansas we have a year where the lady bugs
[00:22:07] are chaotic out here it's the gnats the palm metal bugs and the earwigs some places it's the silver
[00:22:15] fish you know those may be nuisance but think about it I have two bug zappers for the chicken
[00:22:21] run once we get chickens they're gonna have a nice treat when they come out in the morning
[00:22:25] you know what that now can you send me which ones you have because we are now expanding
[00:22:32] our chicken area the chicken run itself for them might be something I need to look in for for their
[00:22:39] area I'm also looking into getting an old tire to make a sand bathing area for the chickens
[00:22:47] a desk bath because chickens love to dig chickens like to roll in the dirt which sounds funny
[00:22:54] but I've never had I've never seen a chicken not dig down to the point that where our chickens are
[00:23:01] there are actually divots from where they've almost dug under their own coop yeah well I would
[00:23:10] love to see what kind of bugs ever you have I mean chickens are very I'm gonna take you right
[00:23:15] now my chickens are assholes um this group of them are probably the meanest little assholes
[00:23:23] I've ever had they will peck you regardless they act like ferocious little raptors it doesn't matter
[00:23:30] that you fed them they're still gonna peck at you um and they they've eaten quite a bit that you
[00:23:36] can tell they're done eating and they will still peck at you but I mean so is the beast I mean
[00:23:45] they have not started laying yet though which has me concerned because they should have already
[00:23:50] started laying which might be because the animal attacks have them stressed out
[00:23:55] one of the girls seems like she's the kind she might be eating the eggs so I now have to change
[00:24:01] how I have their setups and their pens and their nested boxes so I can keep a better eye out
[00:24:09] I do have a camera set on them so I have to put up a secondary camera at a lower level
[00:24:17] to see if I can monitor into their pen so we'll see it's it's definitely interesting chickens are
[00:24:27] stinky little monsters but love them I always have a little diatomaceous earth which they
[00:24:33] have been great for eating the past which I have for those of you who don't know
[00:24:40] diatomaceous earth also is great for insect issues like out here palm metal bugs
[00:24:47] are not bugs they're roaches okay people are like oh it's just a palm metal book no it's a
[00:24:53] giant roach that flies I'm I don't like roaches I'm gonna be a bit of a sissy here
[00:24:59] but what I have found has helped with decreasing those random stray palm metal
[00:25:05] bugs that somehow make it into your home occasionally is I put food grade diatomaceous
[00:25:11] earth around the outside of the house around the exits I mean around the entrances and exits
[00:25:17] I put it inside the house around certain windows certain areas that I think they may be coming in
[00:25:23] and what diatomaceous earth does is it dries out their exo-skill and it kills them to the
[00:25:29] point that we have a bag of diatomaceous earth sitting on the back porch and it's it's
[00:25:34] popped open and I looked in and there was probably about five palm metal bugs dead in there because it
[00:25:40] does kill them another thing you can do and it sounds vicious is the earwigs the earwigs will
[00:25:48] get in regardless of what you do somehow they find a way around some of the diatomaceous earth
[00:25:54] that they're like synaptes with nasty prongs on their butt they're they're vicious looking
[00:25:59] um I keep a bottle a spray bottle of alcohol in the bathrooms one upstairs one downstairs
[00:26:09] so if I see one because those bugs are hard to kill and I prefer not to stomp on them that I will
[00:26:16] spritz them with rubbing alcohol and the rubbing alcohol does very similar to the diatomaceous
[00:26:21] earth and it dries them out and kills them instantly that I can then once the alcohol
[00:26:28] evaporates just vacuum right up don't have to deal with them don't have to worry about guts
[00:26:34] or all that gross mess tada yeah it's it's a girly thing that I have discovered I have developed
[00:26:42] but I am fine with insects on the outside of my house I don't like insects or critters on the inside
[00:26:54] here are the two videos I did with my zappers okay I'm poor my favorite
[00:26:58] commercial okay so I am gonna subscribe to your channel oh I am subscribed to your channel
[00:27:19] oh okay all right you know what I'm saving this I am going to thank you that love I appreciate it
[00:27:27] um I don't know why that didn't pop up on my stuff I follow you needed a drink
[00:27:43] all right so what I'm gonna do I'm gonna run to a quick commercial break I am going to
[00:27:48] check on the tater tot I do have him on his playpen watching some toddler preschooling
[00:27:53] so give me a moment and I will be right back on the break of blackouts again as power demand
[00:28:04] reached an all-time record high overnight slivers of the golden state plunged into darkness
[00:28:10] this film says it expects to continue with stage six running blackouts full the rest of
[00:28:14] he's scheduled outage on thursday but the one that happened sunday it wasn't scheduled it was
[00:28:18] unexpected and it lasted longer than a day point zero energy has given me the american
[00:28:24] tested american assembled reliable solar backup that I've been looking for their titan solar generator
[00:28:32] is american ingenuity at its finest with a removable expandable lithium ion battery 2000 watt hour
[00:28:40] 3000 watt high efficiency inverter so what does all that mean to you it means the titan can
[00:28:46] charge your smartphone for 88 hours your laptop for 35 hours a c-pad for 108 hours your
[00:28:53] refrigerator for 26.8 hours get to point zero energy dot com today for the all american solution
[00:29:01] to backup power you're listening to pbn
[00:29:11] your path back to stability hello welcome to the podcast present your vaccine passport
[00:29:40] and to use social credit schooler and be sure you have enough remaining carbon credits to enjoy
[00:29:48] today's show that is right your garden is the resistance my garden has seen better days
[00:30:05] it really has which is funny I planted purslane at the beginning of the plant in season when I
[00:30:12] had all of my herbs in my stack and tower and they just now grew so it has been an odd season
[00:30:19] we plant on pool in the soil um amending it trying to see what I can do to have a better
[00:30:25] growth year maybe plant something that can stay over winter and then not have to worry about
[00:30:31] I would thank you that nub indoor bugs ever for $28 I haven't used this one before but
[00:30:36] it's only 28 fair enough thank you I am a woman on a very tight budget
[00:30:45] but you know what I make do I have been able to take care of things for my family and make
[00:30:52] sure ends are met so I can't complain speaking of which the um I know last time that I tried
[00:31:02] to have a show I was speaking of mold and mildew and we have a humidifier not humidifier dehumidifier
[00:31:12] downstairs our humidifier has kicked the bucket but our dehumidifier is probably full about every
[00:31:23] three days um it's not a super strong one we probably need a few of them and we have gotten
[00:31:28] some damp red and we are dealing with a mold problem doesn't matter what we keep the tempter on
[00:31:35] things will mold in the house um you'll see it on wood surfaces I which I'm going through with vinegar
[00:31:41] and wiping and killing things down and I was probably why I've been staying sick hence another
[00:31:48] reason to get the hell out of here um these houses these duplexes were constructed very
[00:31:55] poorly that one of the landlords not my landlord a different landlord to another set of duplexes
[00:32:00] explained why we were dealing with what we were dealing with I've pointed it out to our landlord
[00:32:06] and been kind of dismissed on it um so it was kind of one of those things is when a
[00:32:15] wood item in your house of molds out of nowhere or a pair of leather boots or even
[00:32:20] the outside bag of something is like I can't I can't keep doing this so I've pulled a lot of
[00:32:27] things out of the house um a lot of things have gone to storage disinfectant just just
[00:32:35] cleaning the mold it's it's ridiculous y'all it is please pay attention if you move into a
[00:32:40] duplex or an apartment complex I highly recommend you get a dehumidifier I have ordered some
[00:32:48] damp wretts that should be in tomorrow they won't be in today to try to help with the moisture
[00:32:56] since we won't be here um Darren camp and just in general I don't know where is it
[00:33:27] oh what's funny is when you find an online page you have an opening you don't know why okay
[00:33:33] um let me see I ordered and I have no clue if they work I've heard good things about them
[00:33:39] and it's cheaper to order it on amazon than it is to um get them from Walmart it was 21
[00:33:46] dollars for two and I paid 21 for six so 10.5 ounce portable humidity absorbers I don't know if
[00:33:59] anyone has any references on those that would be great so that is just one of those things where
[00:34:14] it's it's just interesting um that this is what we're dealing with I grew up in the south I'm
[00:34:21] used to bugs I'm used to the humidity and the heat right but I've never dealt with homes that
[00:34:28] were pre-manufactured and put together so quickly that there are some large issues um such as these
[00:34:36] duplexes that were built this is something you all got to pay attention to and I don't mean
[00:34:42] the the whole point of prep and is for everyday life right and everything that's that's going on
[00:34:48] is um
[00:34:51] you have to pay attention to your surroundings right if I'd known what I'd known
[00:34:55] earlier now I would have handled things differently I would have already had an even better dehumidifier
[00:35:02] which we've talked about in Westinon but right now this works um until we because every bit
[00:35:08] we're trying to do is to get us out but um I found out these duplexes we live in two two sets
[00:35:17] side by side were pre-manufactured and the previous owner not for this one for the other
[00:35:23] one the owner the landlord said that they are brought in and sat down and he goes there's actually
[00:35:28] an open space between the two walls that has no insulation nothing adjoining it but open air
[00:35:37] which then gets up into our open ventilation system he goes the mold you have grown in your vents
[00:35:44] is because your neighbors keep their house on a very low temperature that all that
[00:35:49] moisture builds up between the two buildings and because your house is a warmer temperature
[00:35:54] it is growing and now coming over to your side from that cross space so my I know for a fact
[00:36:00] our neighbors air conditioning unit runs 24 seven their unit is right next to ours behind the house
[00:36:07] and it seems like it never shuts off so they keep their house at a very low temperature
[00:36:16] and uh we don't at the lowest I think we've ever said our thermostat was at 69 degrees
[00:36:23] when I was pregnant and my hormones were crazy or if it gets super hot that's the lowest I think
[00:36:28] we ever had the house typically our house stays anywhere from 72 at the lowest to 76
[00:36:34] we're comfortable with that which sucks that we have to then consider how what temperature
[00:36:40] range we keep the house be to even consider own health these are things people don't think about on
[00:36:46] the normal you I'm used to before these tenants that moved in never had an issue with this never
[00:36:52] had an issue with my temperature or condensation in the house or the vents and then once they move
[00:36:58] in all of a sudden that happens and that's something you have to think about is when
[00:37:03] you're prepping where you live what things can affect you without realizing it I never thought
[00:37:12] these neighbors who I already can't stand are causing more of a potential issue for my family
[00:37:18] and our health because it's something as simple as temperature because these houses how they were
[00:37:25] manufactured it is one of those things where it is chaotic to think that that's what we run into
[00:37:37] right that is what we deal with on the daily it's it's it's so funny that I mean that I guess
[00:37:51] that's just something that we deal with right we have to look at the fact that our life is going
[00:37:57] to throw us curveballs we got a hell of a curveball and on top of that we are looking at the fact that
[00:38:12] that we are looking at the fact that prepping doesn't just involve getting ready for shtf
[00:38:21] prepping involves getting ready for the curveballs life is going to throw at us and if anybody
[00:38:27] should know about some curveballs I have been through it and I'm sure you have to not discrediting
[00:38:33] anybody not trying to take it away from them but life has thrown me a curveball in so many different
[00:38:41] ways that I don't know how to explain it my life has went so far sideways it's not funny
[00:38:52] but you know what I pick up and I keep going because that is that is life that is how we deal with it
[00:39:04] that's how we move along because we're preppers we don't give up just because things get hard
[00:39:12] we don't stop just because oh good morning I see hi James we don't we don't stop
[00:39:26] how are you James the intrepid commander has entered the chat
[00:39:37] making sure I still have audio okay awesome but that just goes to show you don't think about
[00:39:43] the things that could affect you so you know for us we are in a limited space in a very
[00:39:51] urban area and the fact I have chickens is entertaining as I'll get out we're now down to
[00:39:59] eight I haven't gone and checked them this morning and I didn't turn on the camera last night so
[00:40:03] it could be less but that's the game which I then later um after I had all my chickens found out
[00:40:12] technically which is funny is we're not sitting limits so I guess city limit city limits
[00:40:20] you can only have four I have eight again I don't care I'm gonna have my chickens
[00:40:29] those chickens offer a means and a way for my family to have eggs and meat now we had intended
[00:40:38] on colon three already we had intended on that out of the 11 to put in the freezer so now we have
[00:40:46] to juggle okay which girls do we want to keep which girls do we still want to put in the freezer
[00:40:53] or is that something we're holding off on now so we are looking at how you know that's
[00:41:02] that's what life gives us this curveballs we're dealing with the house situation with the
[00:41:06] bugs I found a way that I used a dirty diaper we already had got all the gnats in a bag tied that
[00:41:12] bag up guess what they're out in the dump um leftovers in our house don't go to waste any
[00:41:21] longer so there's one last thing we have to worry about those go straight to the chickens the
[00:41:25] chickens eat just about anything and everything even each other I mean not while they're alive
[00:41:34] but chickens can be very cannibalistic so when that fox tore the head off of my chicken
[00:41:40] and left the body I did not move her out right away I did let the other chickens eat her um if
[00:41:47] she had died from illness I would have moved her out right away but it's just one of those things
[00:41:53] nature is there to clean up chickens enjoy protein I give them a high protein pellet
[00:41:58] anyways but it was one less thing I had to clean up now did I pull her out after a day absolutely
[00:42:05] there wasn't anything left but two legs um which my chickens get fed a stupid amount of food
[00:42:15] to the point that we are a bit concerned because they are actually very large
[00:42:20] like very large bigger than I've had hens before um which also runs into it could be because I did
[00:42:28] get them from tractor supply versus my chickens in the past I've gotten from other chicken
[00:42:35] owners who bred and raised their chickens and you knew where they were coming from
[00:42:43] but once I get this larger run built for them they'll have more exercise more movement
[00:42:49] and they are fast little jerks I'm not gonna lie it's just interesting the way things are thrown
[00:43:02] I've almost got another beanie done while I'm sitting here talking to y'all
[00:43:05] thank you for this morning's ramblings there was no real point I probably could have gotten away
[00:43:11] with not doing a show but honestly last weekend's errands had me up to my eyeballs
[00:43:17] speaking of preps I do want to do this um I would love to hear for those of you in the chat
[00:43:24] for those of you who aren't in the chat I know I have a few listeners who will reach out to me
[00:43:28] afterwards via signal skype email element what have you feel free or even instagram
[00:43:37] I want to hear what is your timeline that you set for yourself when you're prepping
[00:43:42] do you set a timeline for certain things like for me my um food storage for canon I'd like to have
[00:43:51] start it by a certain date and complete it by a certain date only because then if I put myself
[00:43:57] in a time frame I know okay this is something I have to do first or do you put I'll get it done
[00:44:05] when I get it done because I'm one of those I found when I started doing that on certain things
[00:44:10] it doesn't necessarily get done unless I know it is it is something that is being kind of dictated by
[00:44:20] being dictated by financial means that is one thing but I I'm curious what is your timeline for
[00:44:30] things what do you do do you set yourself a short timeline do you get it done right away
[00:44:39] like how how do you go with it really I'm curious where did it go my chat disappeared
[00:44:58] but you know I'd love to see do you set a certain expectation for yourself when it comes to prepping
[00:45:06] now we talk about the fact people should already be prepping that you should get it started
[00:45:12] but do you when you find what most of us are we're we're parents we're spouses we're
[00:45:20] we work we have things we have to do
[00:45:30] sorry we we have to work within a certain time frame but do you I that now I love you
[00:45:36] um he says my start date was 12 years ago my end date is unknown I guess a few years after
[00:45:42] the end comes okay I don't mean in prepping in general I mean like for a specific do you set yourself
[00:45:49] specific goals so for example I have my bicycle I would like to have something for it by a certain
[00:45:59] date right would like to but that's not an oppressed goal I mean pressed item for me so for
[00:46:04] example is my sorry there's dust on this um my cannon I would like to have some canned
[00:46:16] chicken with the potatoes and vegetables by November I would like to do you set certain
[00:46:24] prep and things with certain goals in mind that you know you would like to have it done
[00:46:29] in a certain time frame now I understand there's certain parts of prepping which we
[00:46:34] keep very fluid and very open but do you ever set a short date for yourself so you are
[00:46:41] put yourself under that time frame to make sure you get it done
[00:46:48] which don't listen to me because I mean my dump pouches should have been done
[00:46:54] and all of them should have been done months ago but truth be told I also have 12 projects going on
[00:47:01] at the same time speaking of which speaking of which ladies and gentlemen at prepper camp
[00:47:07] there will be a couple quilt coats and little poncho capes um yes that has been something
[00:47:15] I've been working on has taken old comforters and quilts and repurposing them into wares
[00:47:23] so yes I'm not a huge fan of the whole polyester thing but in a pinch you should be able to know
[00:47:30] how to take something like that and make it into something useful um if it's cold out
[00:47:35] you want to be able to stay warm so that is one of those things I am excited I've taken a super
[00:47:42] ugly ugly blanket and turned it into a very interest in jacket and poncho I still think
[00:47:49] it's a bit ugly but it's cute in its own right um so I am excited I have learned some things while
[00:47:57] sewing these and it has been it's been a fun little journey so once I get the rest of these
[00:48:02] dump pouches done hopefully this weekend I will have time to knock out two more jackets at least
[00:48:11] before camp so we'll see I'm definitely interested in that now you have some amazing preps going
[00:48:17] on it seems like you're always doing something I am envious I should be getting more done but
[00:48:24] truthfully I'm not gonna lie I'm constantly exhausted and I feel like I could sleep for the next 12
[00:48:34] years and I'm keeping myself going what about you James any time frames or preps that's
[00:48:44] if he's listening he may have jumped off we'll see we're coming up on be coming up on an hour soon
[00:48:51] so I won't keep you all too much longer especially on the beginning of the weekend I'm sure there's
[00:48:56] plenty to do if there is something for those of you who are coming to camp where you would
[00:49:04] like to see a certain item or something available please let us know let me know any of us would
[00:49:11] love to be able to hey Casey speak in a witch James make sure you bring those um lizard bookmarks with
[00:49:23] you did not make any extra so if you want any at camp you'll have to bring them sir
[00:49:31] I see people typing I am waiting patiently waiting and pour one in for those of you
[00:49:41] if you follow my instagram and you've messaged me there is a good chance I've probably blown
[00:49:47] you up with some memes I do enjoy sharing those on there it is going to be interesting um prepping
[00:50:07] with the toddler has changed things food preps items that we have in the house
[00:50:13] considering the fact that if we have to go somewhere and travel and it does make it very
[00:50:19] interesting I'm going to be honest with you it's starting over all over again something
[00:50:28] okay is it okay if I share that one that now but I think that is a great um great example so here
[00:50:35] we go and this is exactly my mind works on a similar level as he does um and I love this
[00:50:43] example of I have a list that constantly changes in the order of priority my time frame is only
[00:50:49] rolled by how much extra money I can make at work we make about 250 per shift after taxes
[00:50:56] for example if I want a thousand dollar guns I need to do four hours of overtime
[00:51:03] if I want 10k more in solar that is 40 hours of over times so yes I absolutely understand that
[00:51:11] um I think that is excellent that's like I actually do the same for my prepping
[00:51:19] versus crafting items if I sell hats at 20 a pot or depending on what material they are
[00:51:28] I know how many items that I have to sell per the project to be able to afford something or
[00:51:35] put it towards oh not ours shifts ah my apologies 250 per shift after taxes so if I want a thousand
[00:51:44] dollars of guns I need to do four shifts for overtime shifts if I want 10 000 or more in solar
[00:51:50] that is 40 shifts of overtime wow that is that is actually very fascinating but that makes sense
[00:52:00] that now I feel like you're always working your poor thing one of these days I hope to be that
[00:52:08] well put together which are my job feels like it's non-stop and I am I am need in prepper
[00:52:17] camp right now I'm not kidding those weekends where I get to um yes it's gonna be a drive or it's gonna be
[00:52:25] out of my way but that weekend is like a moment of resetting that I need because work is getting to
[00:52:33] stress me out and it's up to my eyeballs and I'm just burnt out I'm so burnt out
[00:52:40] and that's that's the way of life we we cure ourselves all the time that just a moment of
[00:52:46] rest is what's made it sorry y'all I dropped my crochet hook oh wait but that's that's what it is
[00:52:58] is I'm over here I've got my center already has his wool jacket that I made for him last year
[00:53:07] that he can wear this year I made sure I made it in a way that it you know he can wear it quite a
[00:53:13] let's see oh okay I think Casey made a response to James never mind
[00:53:30] for a link in his amazon speaking of which he has some great items I do use some rechargeable
[00:53:37] items myself I actually have this rechargeable fan that I can plug usb or solar power and
[00:53:46] I don't know if you can hear that not super loud for a fan actually puts off quite a bit of air
[00:53:54] that even now instead of running the ceiling fan um especially if I'm not feeling well the ceiling
[00:54:01] fan will drive me out that we actually run this little fan and it's got a quite a bit of force
[00:54:06] that it works great I have two other fans I take with us to camp that also have lights on it
[00:54:12] I mean it's it's phenomenal I mean great fan I enjoy that so I agree with that
[00:54:28] understandable see that that that's what I do is I look at what can I make from my side hustle am I
[00:54:35] this year doing any alterations for anyone you know I used to do a lot of clothing alterations
[00:54:43] I'm not a professional seamstress or so is by any any means I'm not a bit professional
[00:54:52] so is but I enjoy sewing I enjoy making things I enjoy creating things so when I've done clothing
[00:55:01] alterations if I've sold any crochet work if I've sewn any sewing work if I've done any extra
[00:55:08] projects um I account for that too yes you know buying and selling turning around repurposing
[00:55:16] reupholstering those are all things I get that I mean the hustle is real the side hustle is real
[00:55:24] especially for those of us who our checks are strapped to the brim you know my partner doing
[00:55:32] a side hustle a few extra pulls here and there whatever it may be those those are things we have
[00:55:39] to consider is hey this check goes for this but you made this much extra on the side you know I try
[00:55:47] not to take for my partner any more than that's necessary honestly because he's he is the backbone
[00:55:54] of this household that the other day he came in handed me a button you know this extra and I'm
[00:56:00] oh what's this for he goes so you can have it like it'll get put up okay not a problem you know
[00:56:06] that's that is a partnership as we know this is being put up for a move and fund or hey I'd like
[00:56:11] you to put this towards this fund that managing and prepping really do go together um you can do
[00:56:19] prepping on a level where it is not bank breaking but it is also keep in mind there
[00:56:28] are certain things as my partner likes to say buy once you know it's better to buy once cry once
[00:56:34] then buy twice and cry twice so sometimes there are certain things in prepping you have to look at
[00:56:39] as an investment so there are certain things um are humidifier the fact that it crapped out after
[00:56:47] a year and a half um he said oh we bought a cheap one didn't we honestly probably he goes
[00:56:53] well in the next one just invest in a better one so then we don't have to replace it again
[00:57:00] so there are certain things you can go cheap on and there are certain things you really do need to
[00:57:06] look at as far as an investment like for me um a good kerosene heater is an investment for my family
[00:57:14] I'd rather have one good one and not have to buy another one for the next 30 years which is
[00:57:20] funny because the one I was using when I was um in Mississippi in my former life as I'd like to call
[00:57:27] it we were using one that was from the 70s and it still no it was probably sorry like
[00:57:34] seven early 80s and we were still using it so that was five years ago and it's still being
[00:57:40] used to this day and it works great so it's best invest in something that's worth having
[00:57:46] that you know will hold up versus something that you're gonna get it's gonna break in a year
[00:57:51] and then you're gonna have to replace it now I'm rambling sorry y'all all right I will quit
[00:57:58] chatting your ear off I appreciate you joining me this morning um that nub I will shoot you a
