[00:00:00] This is the type of crap we need to talk about. They are going to cook up as you warm them though, you know what I mean? So they'll never be like, oh that's an egg and now I'll cook it. So it'll just be probably a consistency figuring out how much water. What I can look at when I get back and I'll send it to you guys is the powdered eggs that I have. I'm sure they got the directions on the back ratio. That would be. So are you? Well those are pre-cooked.
[00:00:29] Yeah they are pre-cooked. Those are raw. Yeah that's a whole other ball game. We'll have to figure it out. I'll figure it out. Rocky Balboa style. You're just going to record it. No. No, not do that. PBN family you are listening to the antics of the ration or ruin Stella Artois and Pachki, what's this called? Oh, Pachka. Pachka.
[00:00:54] As we sort of break down and unveil all the meals and rules and debate about how to rehydrate raw freeze dried eggs and all that good stuff. So we're just going to kind of work through it all and you guys can pretend like you're sitting here in Dave's massage chair. Living the life. Yeah, I smell like chainsaw and sweat. We were just cutting some trees.
[00:01:22] We've been working outside all day, Maria and I. James came over and helped me pull down some trees that were shading the greenhouse. Yeah, can't have no shading on the greenhouse. You guys are lucky you don't have much shade at all around here. I cut the trees down. Yeah. I mean... Years passed. Yeah, that's... I'm in the boat now with shade where the trees are massive. Uh-huh. They got to come down but, you know... You don't want to do it yourself. Expansive.
[00:01:50] Yeah, people roll up there like, how many thousands do you have to take that tree down? I'm like, oh God. So, I had one right out here. You could probably still see the stump. And it was massive. Yeah. And we laid that baby right down the driveway. Wow! Good work. Yeah. That was scary. It was. You held your breath. That's right next to the house. And they're in the bedroom watching it. Oh God. They're like, right where it could kill them. And they're watching it.
[00:02:20] And it goes... And they go, wow! Wow! The chainsaw stopped. I think that was God saying, pay attention. Oh, could have been. So, I said, wait Alex, I'm going to go get the wedges to make sure it goes down the driveway. So, I went and got two wedges. And I took the chainsaw and started it back up.
[00:02:48] And I said, now Alex, you pound these wedges in as I'm cutting. Right. And Roger, the guy before Larry, he's pulling with the tractor with a rope. Oh, he's pulling it. Yeah, he's pulling it. And his front tires are coming off the ground. Oh man. Yeah. So, as Alex is tapping, I am cutting. He's tapping and it starts to go. Alex runs. Oh, I bet. And I'm like, what?
[00:03:18] I don't trust these wedges as much as you, Dad. Okay. So, how do we feel about, are there any qualms with like the eating and the fooding and the, you know, the time of day or not time of day, but day of the week? I think we've got that pretty well hammered out. What we can and cannot eat. What do you eat? One set one week. One set.
[00:03:45] I mean, if you eat it all up at the beginning of the week. Yeah. You're screwed. Right. Yeah, that is going to be an interesting thing. Should we not talk about that and just strategize that on our own and talk about it after? Yeah. Or we could put little daily audio caches in there. I was thinking about an R&R report at the end of the week that I'd like to do. That would be fun. Yeah. I mean, if you guys are up for it. I know it's hard to get you together at the same time, but it would be fun. I'm definitely going to drop one or two of my own.
[00:04:15] Well, let's do that then. That'll be good. Yeah. We could do the one all. Hopefully we'd get together once, at least for a capstone event or two of us could get together or three of the four of us could get together in the middle of May or something. Oh, we have always done that at the end of the exercise. We're going to make that happen. Exactly. All right. This is Kozenat. Kozenat's going around the room, ladies and gentlemen. We're enjoying the good food and beer before it's too late. It's chocolate and walnut and... Oh my God. That's like huge chunks of chocolate right in it.
[00:04:45] And really, really good. This is not the way May is going to be. No. No. This is the opposite. We're going to be on our souls here. This is the opposite of May. We'll be eating chocolate pudding at best. Oh. Yep. Well, with StreamYards, it's a whole new paradigm. The four of us can call in together. Yeah. Well, Patriot Power Hour is Tuesday nights. Oh, God. That's good. What other night?
[00:05:13] Saturdays if we get together for an actual field event. Yep. Yeah. That's a different broadcast. Right. And then one more during the week. I think that'd be cool to do one at one, whatever day works best for everybody. Friday nights or something like that. Friday nights would be tough because that's a, that's a fasting day. That'd probably be the right time to do it. Yeah. That'd probably be good. Yeah. So then are we all sticking to the same? That was kind of my question.
[00:05:40] Are we all sticking to the same days of fasting and days of not fasting? I think we should stick to the same product. Product definitely. For that week. Yeah. But however your system works. Because you could be fasting on a Friday. You might not be fasting on a Friday. Ben, you might not eat the whole month. I don't know what you got up your sleeve. I know you've been training for this. A little bit. That's the question is like, do we get 6,000 calories a week and we can eat whenever we want?
[00:06:08] Or originally we were saying you get 2,000 calories on Monday, 2,000 on Wednesday, 2,000 on Friday, nothing on Tuesday and Thursday. Well, I think we should just give the 6,000 calories. I like that. Do whatever you want. Yeah. Okay. And then we report back Friday how it went. Yeah. Oh, I got so hungry on, I had to break into the next one. Yeah, I like that. Something like that. No cheating allowed. No. Okay. I think that would be fun. Okay. Because you could change the weeks up too.
[00:06:37] Like you said, you could go every other day. Yeah. Or you could take a big ass break and really fast and then eat like a king the next three days, you know? I consider that. Well, and you said cheating. So I want to get this thing down about the other food. Okay. Because this is pretty self-explanatory. Yeah. The other food is a question. Whatever. Because I could live on hard-boiled eggs really. I mean...
[00:07:05] So I think that's the split between cash bound is what we were calling it. Yeah. Where there is no other food besides what you can hunt or gather legally. Versus homestead. And that's you guys are able to source from your own. Cultivator. Cultivator. Someone who's making their own food. So I'm not going to have any other food except with 6,000 calories. Except for a whole of that kiss of fish. Yeah. Or I'm screwed. Pretty much. Yeah. I'm with you with that. Right. And we were thinking that James and Dave... Yeah. Who are in reality cultivating right now. Yeah.
[00:07:33] I could go out there and pull you a salad right now. You saw my stuff. I can. That's Maria. It'd be a lie to eat. I'd say it's my stuff. It's actually her stuff. She feeds it to me. I can see that. I can see that. And I parked right next to the chicken coop. Yeah. So here'd be the question. Future Dan and I, six... You know, we're doing the pretty strict three days on, two days off. Actually, really four days off.
[00:08:01] Because you're also fasting on the weekend unless you can hunt. We're going to be hunting and hopefully some turkey and go fishing. Try and find some mushrooms. Yeah. Supposedly some species that might be around. It's more time. That'll be all new for me. It's more time right now. Like little brains, right? Yeah. The ones that look like brains. So now the question is, let's say, James. Yeah. You have 6,000 calories for that week of storable food. Are you going to have another 3,000 of your cold-demander food?
[00:08:30] So you still be in a big calorie deficit? I'm kind of in the boat with Dave as far as the eggs. We could keep track. Oh, that's a good call. Or you could only do... Or you could only just keep track. That's a good call. No, I ate two eggs. That wouldn't be hard. A salad from the garden. Yeah. That wouldn't be bad. I killed a bear. So... Oh, I've been watching them deer in my backyard contemplating. So bring it back to the point of ration or ruin. There's got to be a rationing going on. Well, that's kind of what... That's what I'm kind of hung up on.
[00:09:00] You're not eating at your full amount. That's kind of what I'm hung up on. We are simulating an event where, despite your best plans, things have gone badly enough that you are to the point where whatever your reserves are, whether you're a cultivator or you are cash bound, you can't go 100%. Right? It's like the old days with the sailing ships. The crew goes on rations because we're running out of food. Yeah.
[00:09:28] So, for me, part of this... I'm less focused on the nutrition and how it tastes and how I feel after I eat it and how I feel by not eating it. Of course, I'm going to do the DAC. I'm going to talk about this stuff. But, like other things I've done in my life, this is kind of one of those prove it to myself kind of events. Yeah. I've never... And I'm a veteran. I was in the United States Army, but I never went without food. Right. The U.S. Army is pretty good about... They feed you. They feed you.
[00:09:57] Morale is important. You get fed. Yep. So, worst I've ever been is Ranger School with, you know, under that pressure and, you know, it's less food, but... But it's still some food. This, in May, for Prepper Broadcasting Network, Rational Room, is going to be a lot less food. A lot less food for a lot longer period of time. Yeah. And what I'm looking for by Memorial Day is to have confidence that if I ever get thrust
[00:10:25] into this situation, just like the last Azure Highland where we did essentially simulated bug out from a suburban area, if ever put into that situation, it's not going to be good. Right. I don't ever want to be there. Yeah. But if I am ever there, I'll probably be with people who have never even thought about simulating it. But in order to lead them through it, having done some kind of simulation of it beforehand
[00:10:52] will give me the moral courage at the time to make the best of matters. So, that's kind of like what I was thinking about is this is the fourth Azure Highland. And rather than being just another physical challenge like it has been in the past, let's challenge ourselves in a new dimension. Let's have food deprivation. Oh, yeah. It's tougher. Again, this is not real world. So, this is a simulation.
[00:11:20] So, there are safety measures in place. And for example, myself, I'm taking protein supplement every day. I'm at the age where if I went full up starving myself, I'm going to lose muscle. I'm never going to get back. You and Ben have a shot at regaining that muscle mass. Dave and I, that's just biology, right? Right. So, I'm supplementing with protein drinks every single day. Yeah, that makes sense.
[00:11:46] But the carbohydrates and coming off of the sugars that I normally eat. Oh, yeah. That first week you're going to be mean. It's not going to be easy. Your family is going to be like, you're sleeping in the shed for rationing room. We're rationing in the bedroom also. Coping with that is what I hope we learn how to do. You want another? Oops, you got a spoon in there. Since we're on it, you want... Here, I'll throw it away.
[00:12:13] You want to talk about energy drinks. Because when I teach... Well, I'll definitely be drinking coffee. I have... Well, I have one that has no calories. Okay. But I definitely need it. I really think that... I can't. I really think the crux of ration and ruin... I really like that. I really think... I think we keep it personal. As opposed to trying...
[00:12:41] Like, there's a piece of my mind that wants to make it somewhat similar across the board and then kind of almost competitive. And then I think the best way to handle it is... The best way to handle it is to make it personal. It has to be. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Because our anatomy and our biology are not the same. Yeah. And our circumstances at home are not the same. Well, my personal struggle is... Thank you. Yeah. I kind of want to suffer with you guys.
[00:13:10] You know what I mean? Like, there's... Don't eat the eggs? Yeah, because there's... I don't know. It's that sort of brotherhood of suffering together. You know what I mean? And I don't know. There's something about that that's appealing. You could earn your calories. So you eat the 6,000, but you gotta go like burn 2,000 calories on a hike to... Or eat your eggs of 2,000 calories. I don't know. Or something like that. Earn your calories. For you guys, I'm gonna be doing a little bit of exercise. Exercise and stuff.
[00:13:38] Nothing too strenuous because only 6,000 calories. I think we're gonna learn a lot from this. Not much. A lot. Oh, definitely will. You know, how does your system handle this? Can, you know, your brain function? Can I teach while this is all going on? Oh, it'll be wild. Yeah. So cultivators and cash bound, the major difference is you're gonna do something with foodstuffs that you're creating at home that we're not. Just during the time. Right.
[00:14:07] That are being grown or being raised. Like you can eat strawberries that we put up last year. Yeah. Because that would be way on there. Just during the time. And right now... So that's an exchange that's instead of the pre-packaged 6,000 calories, you might do 5,000 pre-packaged and do another 1,000 from something out of your stocks. Right. Is that what you envisioned? Well, that's what I thought. Yeah. Oh. Okay. That sounds better. That's not what I thought. I thought we were doing... You were taking more calories, Brian.
[00:14:37] No, I thought we were doing 4 days cultivated, 3 days cash bound. That's why it felt so... Too easy. Right. Exactly. Kind of like what Dave was saying. Too good to be true. Well, that's what I thought it was. Yeah. That's why I keep saying this is gonna be a piece of cake. No, no, no. I think the part about you don't eat on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday and Sunday. Then I like that. Unless you fish, hunt, or forage.
[00:15:07] Well, I... If you can take it off the land... Like I said, I can go get a... I can go get a salad right now. A salad, yeah. And throw a couple hard-boiled eggs in there. Man, I'm golden. Okay, let's put the perimeter of where you're allowed to do that half mile in any direction from here, but not here. Then what can you forage? Well, it'd be a little tougher. Yeah. But what about the eggs? We're not allowed to have eggs? I would say that's how your 6,000 base ration.
[00:15:36] Oh, so you gotta subtract it. I kinda like that. I think I'd go that route. Okay, now that's harder. Yeah, and we got four weeks, May 3rd all the way to, you know, starts on a Saturday. Saturday is Saturday. Four consecutive Saturdays in May. We'll turn it over. We got Mountain House right before us at our feet. We have a brand XMRE Blue Line. Ben, you brought what now? We've got... Ready Hour. Ready Hour.
[00:16:05] Wait, we got four for four weeks. And we are also product reviewing Dave's homemade eggs and what else is in the packages? Oh, I got... Stu! I got this stuff. And then this is what I have to ask Marie about. Goulash. I see black beans. Some of it's goulash, some of it's beans. Sweet potato in there? Okay. That's why I don't know... Oh, this is gonna be stellar. You know, when you're doing this yourself, you just open it and eat it. Right. Yeah. We don't worry about the calorie calorie.
[00:16:35] Well, what if you had to ration it in reality? Well, in reality, I wouldn't eat it all. I'd say, okay, this is your half of the eggs. But I know that this is a dozen eggs. Okay. So, a dozen eggs is 980... No, 960. Dave's got a handful of freeze-dried eggs in his hand in a vac-sealed bag. That's what he's talking about. A dozen eggs is how many calories? 960. 960.
[00:17:03] So, this is about a thousand. You can't throw down 12 eggs in a day and call it... No. No, that's... That would be rough. It'd be rough. What? We want to be smart about this. Cut it. Use half. Yeah. And then... Because it'd be fine to sit open for a half a day or a day or two. Because what I'm thinking is... And I'll get Maria to do a rough calorie count on these. Uh, one of these every day that you eat.
[00:17:32] Because that's half of your calories. Yeah. And then I don't know how much of this. The various goulashes. Yeah. I feel like I would do a half for breakfast. Then I might do a quarter and a half of this for lunch. A quarter egg and then a half of that for lunch. And then the same thing for dinner if I was doing your stuff. So, we're uncovering a basic problem right now. Yeah.
[00:17:58] Is if you've got a vacuum sealer and you're making stuff off your homestead. Right. How to plan for the eventuality. Like what you got right there? Yeah. No disrespect, but that's not built for rationing. Right. That's built for... Maybe after three pounds to do it. We always got enough. Well, no. It's built for a family. Yeah. This is probably for servings. Yeah. You know, this definitely.
[00:18:27] This definitely. Yeah. I mean, feel that. And by the way, the other products we're reviewing, Mountain House and Ben's Ready Hour, they're built the same way. That's a good point. But the XMRE isn't the form factor. Right. Because they're by... Yeah. It's pack up, go. You have it and you have a self-contained parts and pieces that you can walk. You don't need to. It's ready. Right. Everything else. Mountain House, Ready Hour, and the homemade.
[00:18:58] Yeah. You gotta have hot water. You gotta have water. You gotta have an oven. And it could be four servings. And how do you do four servings? You know, whereas that is a serving. Yeah. Yeah. The Mountain House is tough because you have to... The Ready Hour, you can add as much as you want to water. You know what I mean? Sure. You can add as much as you want to dry for. Whereas this stuff, you have to water directly to the pouch. So then, you either gotta take...
[00:19:24] Eat half and put the other half in a pan and heat it up later. Right. But, the Mountain House is half the size of the Ready Hour. So it actually... Good point. Yeah. So it's a little easier. It's interesting though. So we're trying to do as close as we can to four weeks of four separate product reviews. Yeah. And here's the challenge we got with Raster and Ruin right off the top. Depending on the product, depending on how you made it, depending on how you packaged it, depending on the inputs, you got a very different experience for a ration. Yeah.
[00:19:53] And we're gonna live it in May. Don't lose too many variables. Well... I'll say that goulash, the stew over there, you can eat it straight out of the bag. You don't have to cook it. Really, the eggs, if you had to, I bet you could even though they're raw. Yeah. But not the most tastiest. I don't know if you could eat the Mountain House raw like that. It'd be a little nastier. It's like powdery. So maybe that's an advantage in the home stead. Anyway. From the rationing standpoint though, the good thing is if you screw it up royally, you're
[00:20:23] just gonna wind up screwing yourself later. True. As long as you can set aside like this is the week. Right. Like if this is the week and you got X amount of packages. If you screw up the rationing at the end of the week, your four day fast might turn into a four and a half slash five day. You know what I mean? Hey, I mean, this is what, yeah. Learn the hard way at Jamestown. Exactly. This is what our ancestors have done for thousands and thousands of years paying attention to
[00:20:50] what you actually can bring out of the fields at harvest and thinking about how we're gonna make it together. I gotta show you guys the May apple before we leave. I mean, remind me. I didn't realize they're, they grew here. So if they grow here and they grow where I'm at, they grow where you're at. You can eat them. All right. And they're literally, they, they go to fruit in May and they're really easy to identify because they're huge umbrella like plant that grows on the ground. Nice. They suck, but they're food. Exactly.
[00:21:20] This is point. It's one of those things you can't get wrong. You know what I mean? It grows like a little green fruit like this that you peel one flower underneath of an umbrella that turns into a fruit. Right. And you probably walked by them your whole life. Exactly. That's the thing. Yeah. That's, I'm not going to say a main objective, but a secondary objective is to, you know, get back to fishing. It's been a while. So I want to improve on that. And I'll have a real good motivation to catch some fish because I'm going to be dying
[00:21:47] for fresh protein, but also whether it's the mushrooms or other type of foraging, trying to get out there. Well, the mushroom book came in at the right time. It did. The mushroom book couldn't have came in at a better time. But I'm not, I'm expecting zero calories, honestly. Did it inspire you? Inspired Rational Ruin. Oh, that's great. Yeah. Yeah. I was thinking like, we're going to do another Azure Island. Yeah. How can it be different? Oh, it's a great idea.
[00:22:16] And how can we involve skill sets that they're talking about on Prep and Products and Casting Network that I personally have never tried to forage. Okay, then. So if they need to... Oh, yeah. I think. Oh, nice. Nice. So if the audience wants to play along, that's pretty much the rule base. Yeah. I think at least at the basics, it is that you only eat on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So no eating Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday.
[00:22:47] But if you gather, hunt, fish legally and lawfully, any of those days you can eat. So most weekends I'm going to be working for that. And maybe even on a Tuesday, Thursday. And you know, I'm hoping to find a good fishing spot out of all this at least. So that's what you're doing if you're sticking with the main program. Right. But I know there's other listeners, they're going to put their own twists, their own turns on this. And I would encourage you.
[00:23:12] We had a listener on, Peter Power last week said he's going to institute no grocery store. Fire Wolf Forge, I believe. Oh, Fire Wolf. Yeah. I remember you guys talking about it. Yeah. No grocery store for the four weeks. That's good too. You'll learn from that. Yeah. I would say if you're listening and you think that this is crazy, and there's no way you could do a month, at least try a week.
[00:23:39] I think what you would learn in one week would be exponential for your base level preparedness. You would go, oh my God, I am screwed. Or I'm in an alright place. You know what I mean? That's fine. I think even one week would teach people where they're at. I'm learning things just getting ready for this, or what I'm worried about is bringing it to another level. So actually living through it will give me some help. I've already made a couple adjustments to my actual preps based off this.
[00:24:07] I've been eyeballing the ground in the woods very hard. Yeah, right. About two, three weeks. Oh yeah. How about fishing? Fishing I know I got pretty good. Yeah, you're the pro at that. You coming up to fish with us? Yeah, well I'll definitely come with you guys. Tell me when. Nice. We'll catch some food. I like it. What about turkey hunting? Three. People on the fence on that. We could try it. I mean, it's, I've done it. And I've done it unsuccessfully many times. And I've walked up on turkeys and seen them disappear before my very eyes. So I know they're hard to kill.
[00:24:37] That'd be frustrating when you're starving and you'd be worse than when those ducks got away when we went. But. That one time. That being said, I'm pretty sure. What is it? What is it? May? See, I don't know. We got to the 17th. Yeah, but I'm thinking six other seasons also. And you know what? East of the Blue Ridge is different also. But we're not going that far. Yeah, we're not going west of the Blue Ridge. No, don't tell me how it's coming back.
[00:25:04] But things like squirrel and rabbits have multiple seasons. Squirrels are not in season for us. No. I didn't think they are for us either. Rabbits maybe. I don't know. What? Because that's always my thing. I feel like if I go out to hunt deer or I go out to hunt turkey and the rabbits or the squirrels are there, at least you can take a shot at something like that. Yeah, that's called October, James. This is good. Yeah, I know. I know. No, there is definitely a February squirrel season that comes up in February.
[00:25:32] I know because I always threaten to go and I never do because I'm like, I'm not freezing to death for a squirrel. Sounds so great until it's actually the middle of February. So, yeah. I think fishing is going to be a big part of it. Fishing is going to be good if you guys can get a good spot, for sure. Like, I know I live five minutes from the James River and it's full of catfish and I know I'm going to be eating catfish for sure. You know what I mean? It's just a guarantee. The catfish are plentiful in a way in the James River that I have to bring tackle not
[00:26:00] to catch, like I leave tackle at home because it will catch catfish. Like the goat minnows just catch catfish like when I'm trying to catch smallmouths so I don't even use them. Right. So that'll be a part of it for sure. Okay. And you know, I guess as far as you could, I think you could do well for nuisance trapping maybe if you wanted to get into that. You probably allowed a nuisance trap I bet.
[00:26:27] Well, I think there's a continuous, was that Richmond? I think Richmond has a continuous trapping season all year. Hmm. And it's because it's a city. You're talking about raccoons and possums now. Raccoons, possums, yeah. Squirrels. That kind of stuff. Well, I guess you can't get away with squirrels. I'm wondering whether I could do this without getting into absolute pioneer mode. Do you show up with the Davy Crockett hat on? I think I can discipline myself.
[00:26:58] My experience might be more like on a battleship that's running out of two than Davy Crockett. I got ya. But I do want to fish on weekends and I will do the turkey hunt if you guys want. Okay. Dave, you want a turkey hunt with us? Sure. We just saw a turkey yesterday. Is it yesterday? I think that's C.F. Phelps place right down the street I've read about being pretty good for turkey. I think C.F. Phelps is off of 17. I don't know how far that is from you guys but
[00:27:28] I think it's called P-H. No, C.F. Phelps, I'm pretty sure. Okay. All of this is within range for the bathroom room. Yeah. Well, there you go. Okay, Maria has divided it up. 100 mile radius. We've been divided and conquered. Yep. Oh, thank you. She knows what's what. So I write, no, you didn't let me to do, you know, to make my calories. You just say, you know, three of each after three of each. Three of each. I don't know what's inside. That'll work. But I didn't calculate to do the calories. Yeah.
[00:27:57] Yeah. We made these before this all happened and this is what we had. Yeah. Yeah. We'll make do. We'll make do. We'll make do. We'll make do some of these for them or something, right? No.
[00:28:27] That would not be fair here. So we're all fair. Well, I mean, it's already going to not be fair because it's just sort of egged up. That's all right. It's not really a competition. Yeah. No, it is. It's not. So we want to have somewhat equal playing ground. One thing I think we all need to measure or talk about, especially on DACs, is like our weight. So what's your weight? The star, and then each week, what's your weight? I don't know if I want to. That is a great thing. I'm actually giving it some consideration to spend the money, and it doesn't cost that
[00:28:55] much, and do the blood testing. Yeah. My neighbor keeps reckoning that. I might head into Quest and see how my measures change. Yeah. I think I was thinking about it. That'd be good idea, actually. I have a Quest close by. I was thinking about it. You go to your primary doctor, you just go to them. You go straight to them. What do you do? What do you ask them to take? They do the full men's battery. Yeah, that's what it's called. You can do the full men's battery. Full men's battery. You give them the blood. You give them the urine.
[00:29:22] It takes 15 minutes in and out the door, and it shows up online, and it comes with a consultation. With an actual MD, that call is like, they give you about 10 minutes. Yeah. But they do read it to you. It's a one-way conversation. They read you what... Yeah, the MD right here. Yeah. And the one-way conversations, I imagine. Yeah. But you can ask questions at the end, and I think I might want to actually see the numbers
[00:29:52] on how my body performs under this kind of regime. Yeah. And at the end. I'm scared to see the sodium levels at the end, and the... Yeah. Vitamin D. Oh my goodness. Well, vitamin D should be good. You get down and get a lot of sun, because you ain't getting it from any food. The quality, the nutritional quality, at least at the ready hour, not very high. Well... Not much protein, lots of carbs, and fillers, and preservatives. But I mean, it's calories, so... Let me throw in there. I'm not going to stop supplementing vitamins.
[00:30:20] Yeah, I think that makes sense. I am on a... I'm on like a creatine kick right now that I'm doing through Prepper Fit and Health, so I definitely will be taking that. Wow. Because that's like part of a series I'm doing over there, just to see how it works over X amount of months or whatever. So, I'll definitely be doing that. Well, supplements are part of your... My cash, part of my preps are supplements. I got a year worth of supplements. Yeah, that's the way to go. So... Yeah, I've got vitamin C, fish oils, that kind of stuff.
[00:30:50] Okay. But none of that's going to be like, oh my God, I'm so full now, I took my creatine gummies and my fish oils. I'm getting hungry. What I'm doing for coffee is I'm doing only instant coffee. Only instant, okay. Because I'm pretending that I can't have a coffee maker that works. Okay, maybe. I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll do only bunker beans. How about that? There you go. Only coffee that I roast myself and grind. That'll be fun. Hang on, you're adding like other things that are part of the simulation to this. Without calories.
[00:31:20] Non-calorie additions. Supplements. Me neither. Black only. In terms of cooking and all that, we're not going to simulate anything like grids down. Right. We have to go... You don't have to, right. No, you don't have to build your own fire unless you want to. Definitely. No, I'm using my stove to boil water. No, I ain't making a fire every day, three times a day. Yeah. Like a big mountain house. Or if that's the deal, I'm going to go buy some jet boils like crazy now. Or just eat once a day. That's what I would do in a real bad situation. Well, that's a good point, yeah. Cook once a day.
[00:31:49] Cook once a day. I probably would eat once a day. Yeah. One big ass meal. That's a good question right there. I might do it as part of my strategy, but I'm not sure yet. I know a lot of people who do the one time and eat one meal a day. I do that like now. Yeah. But this could be totally different. See, I have trouble with that. Maybe grab a box and read to the audience like, what are the products we're going to have? Sure. Sure. Yeah, let's look at it. We'll start with the mountain house because they're kind of the creme de la creme.
[00:32:18] That was an expensive box I want to tell you right now. I bet it was, dude. Five meals for $99. Dang! Five meals? What's it say on it? It's not five meals, it's five days. Yeah, five days. Five days of how many people? Well, I think it's two servings per bag. Four pouches. So, four, seven, ten, thirteen, fifteen total pouches.
[00:32:45] Now, you love to send pictures from Costco, so I know you shopped there too. That's from them. Oh, I never saw them. No, you got to buy it online. Oh. Okay. Look, mountain house are irreplaceable in certain situations, I think. Yeah. Hunting, fishing, camping, there is where it's at. Yeah. So, we got, for the mountain house, we got the beef lasagna. I bet you the beef lasagna is going to be pretty good. Even the macaroni is made with semolina flour, which is kind of cool. That's surprising. Right off the top.
[00:33:14] Beef, rosemary extract, salt. It'll have some flavor. And then we got chicken and dumplings. Mmm. Buttermilk biscuits. Healthy dose of palm oil. Yeah, yeah. Then we got the beef stroganoff. That'll probably be, I think these beef ones will probably be the highlight. Right. For breakfast, we got the granola with milk and blueberries. I bet it won't be as good as that granola we had in the Azure. Oh, that was so good. I remember it still.
[00:33:44] And scrambled eggs. So, we're going to be egging. Oh, I think the scrambled eggs might have, it looks like it has some meat in it. Or just, oh, scrambled eggs with uncured bacon. Oh, we're going to get a little bacon. Alright. That's going to be a treat. Sounds like smoked. That's like premium camping food right there. Oh, it is, dude. I mean, they're delicious. I usually get the biscuit, what is it? Biscuits and gravy? Mmm. It's awesome in the morning. Yeah, that's good stuff.
[00:34:13] Let's take a look at these babies. My son's been dying to eat one of these, so he's going to steal one of my rashes for sure. He's been talking to me. I want to eat an MRE. I'm like, well, we're not hoping to know MREs, dude. You want a knife? I don't know what I did with my damn knife. I was going to eat my car. I hope it's not up in the woods. So there's 12 in there. Oh, no. Oh, no. We're just going to play. Dave's building an entire cache up there of weapons and knives.
[00:34:43] Oh, interesting. So this is 12. Oh, is it? Okay. See-through. Yeah, I know. Ooh, man. I like them, man. Yeah. So these are essentially civilian versions of military. Yeah. It's very neat. I think this company actually sells to the single magazine pouch. It's perfect for the... Yeah, look at that. Oh, that's a great idea. Yeah.
[00:35:13] He's got the single magazine pouch with the buckle, plastic buckle, but instead of the magazine inside, it's the multi-tool. Nice. Because they always come with the crappiest sheets and the snap breaks. I never use them. I just put them in my pocket. Yeah. Put them in the cargo pocket or whatever. This is right here. That's where it's at. And you can operate it on one hand. All right. So I don't think this gives us the full breakdown of the MRE unless everything outside of the main entree stays the same. Is that right?
[00:35:43] Is that not a real military MRE? No. It varies. Snack and stuff varies. The cracker's always there. Yeah. The cracker's always there. Yeah. So this is elbow macaroni and tomato sauce. We've got vegetarian taco pasta. Yikes. I'm not sure what that is. That'll be in chicken chunks white cooked. That's a good... It's a little more austere than the mountain house already. Chicken chunks white cooked. White cooked.
[00:36:13] That's gonna be the episode's name. Two different episodes. Hash brown potatoes with bacon, peppers, and onions sound. Damn. That's what I saw. I was like, damn, that was good though, actually. Hash brown potatoes, bacon, peppers, onions. Chicken chunks white cooked. Chicken chunks white cooked. I was nervous if there was any other color. The any with beef sauce. Did you know that Steven Makin, when you said, it hurts when I walk.
[00:36:43] Oh, yeah. It hurt worse to walk. Yeah. He said, that's a name of a show. And the very next show he did, he named it that. He said, that's a sermon. Yeah. I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna do that on Reliance. Yeah. That was real. Yeah. That was some bullshit. Yeah. So, without going into too many army war stories. Yeah. I did want to ask Dave as a veteran of the United States Army, who was there when MREs first rolled out. True.
[00:37:11] I joined the army after they were there, but there were some of the first generation MREs Oh, yeah. still around. Yeah. Which were rough. Yeah. They were rough to eat. Yep. I just want to ask you, in your units and your part of the army, how was it viewed to get a case of this, a box like this, and for one member of the unit to go picking through their own, like, trying to choice pick the best one? Oh, you did not do that. No. No. That's a problem.
[00:37:40] You turned it upside down. Yeah. You opened it upside down because you didn't see the name. No, God. It was on the top. And you just picked. And that's the way it was. They say shape. And then you traded. Or not. Or not. You got stuck with that tuna. You got stuck with that tuna. Oh. That was Charlie the sorry tuna. Yeah. Well look, if what you're getting at is somebody's gotta take the chicken chunks white,
[00:38:09] I'll take the chicken chunks white, I don't mind. I think that vegetarian one. Chicken chunks white cooked, I can handle it. I'm popular. Lasagna? Not popular, no. That seems to be like an oxymoron. What is it? Vegetarian lasagna? Oh yeah, that's a real point. It doesn't just seem right. Beggin'. Doing the opposite and just getting over to the crate of MREs and grabbing anything you want in my unit was called rat effing and you are a rat effer.
[00:38:38] That was a real problem if you ever got God doing that. Yeah. Yeah. Because there were certain meals that were just so bad that if you let rat effing go on, some poor soul was last to the box, it was gonna be getting the worst of the Yeah, now when the MREs came out, they were in a similar box, but we'd open them up and just toss them. Yep. You wouldn't look at the name, you'd just toss them. Grab, whatever you get is what you get.
[00:39:08] Just to settle the dispute. Yeah. Exactly. Wow. It's interesting that you remember that because I would- It was a big thing with MREs. Yeah. And those first ones, like he said, they were, wow. You were coming out of Dutch country Pennsylvania, weren't you? You were eating good. Yeah, but the first MREs were like an experiment. You must have tasted that MRE and said, what the hell have I gotten myself into? Well, we went from C-rations, okay, and that's another thing. You'd open up a case of C-rations.
[00:39:37] Oh, you started with the C-rations, then went into the- Yeah, canned food. Oh, okay. Vietnam era canned food. Yep. Right. You'd have X number of can openers in every box. And you always had your can opener, you know- With a dog tag. In case you didn't get one of the can openers, because there was only like six of them you'd had to share anyways. But I remember, where's the can opener? Oh, you don't need a can. You just open it. Oh, God.
[00:40:07] And the darn bag was practically bulletproof. I mean, I said, what's this made of? Cavalier? I put this on. Right. Put this on with a helmet. So then you'd need a knife to open that. And if you weren't careful, you'd slice your meal. Mmm. Then you're out some calories. Yeah. So product number two. The XMRE. Which I suggest we wait till the end, because it does kind of have the most desperateness,
[00:40:36] or maybe the last of the three prepared foods. Right. I'm kind of looking forward to Dave's food for week four. Yeah. I agree. But, you know, the form factor of this, highly, highly convenient. Those come with heaters in them. Mmm. Oh, do they have the heater? Yeah. You don't need to go to your kitchen for that. That's literally ready to eat. Mmm. It'll be a different experience in my house. You don't mind me asking, how much were they? Because this was $99. I'm like, holy crap.
[00:41:05] Yeah, $129 a case. Ooh. XMRE? Yep. $129. $129 a case. 12 meals for $129. 10 bucks a meal. Yeah. Ish. How many calories per meal? About? Did you guess that? Uh, nearly 3,000 to a pouch. Oh, wow. So that's a good deal. 10 bucks for 3,000 calories ready to eat all day. I think it only does the entree calories. Right.
[00:41:35] That's what I figured. That's why it's confusing looking. No, there's more to it than that. Yeah, no, I know that. 3,000. That's a lot. Yeah. We'll be eating two of those a day each. Yeah, we were eating, uh, on the days when we went out with the Rangers in OCS. We were eating everything. Even I would take the chocolate powder and put the coffee in the chocolate powder and mix it up. We were eating everything. Honey. Every calorie. Every calorie. We put the sugar in there.
[00:42:05] Every calorie. I believe it. All right. That's it. All right. You get a Ranger school story. I saw three cats. One of them dropped a M&M in the dark and had his flashlight out and everybody else was like, what are you doing with your flashlight out? He said, I'm looking for my M&M. I just dropped it. Did they jump on it? And he said, if you help me find it, I'll split it with you. Three of us found it. We, with a Leatherman, we chopped that into three pie piece thirds and had a bit of M&M on it.
[00:42:34] That's how hungry you get there. Oh yeah. Yeah. Shit. But that again is little, right. Three to five day things. Yeah. Where you're doing constant infantry patrolling with heavy packs and your, the calorie expenditure is enormous. Right. So you're under food deprivation, but it doesn't last long. Right. What we're doing for Raston and Ruin, none of us are going to be doing physical exertion at that level. Yeah.
[00:43:00] But it's a lot longer period of time with a lot less calories than we're used to. Well, the downtime is going to be the hardest time. Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? When you're doing anything. Yeah. That's going to be the toughest. I think. Yeah. I don't think I have that problem here. No, you don't. You don't have any downtime. Spending weekends at the Jones. When I'm fasting, that's the hardest part of fasting. I feel like is boredom. Oh, yeah. Or lack of like a reward. Like I worked 10 hours today and I don't get eaten in it. Now I got to just think about it all day. That's such ass.
[00:43:30] It's hard fasting when it goes so slow. Exactly. It goes so slow. And them first couple of days ain't too bad. That's what I think. Yeah. It's going to be interesting how I do the tactic, but I'm going to, I think I'm only one meal a day on the days I eat more than likely. I'm going to be 6,000 calories. No, 2,000. Like, so I eat three days. Oh, I'm sorry. 2,000. Yeah. Going back without getting too deep. You said one of those has how many calories? I got to check. Grab the case. Okay. It's 3,000.
[00:43:59] So you only eat. You get two. You get one of those for the whole week. You get two. Is it awesome? Oh. That's a whole different level. Not for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I just want to make sure we did the math right. Yeah. How to read code. Maybe not enthralling radio, but we got to get the math. And the USA. No tariffs on these XMREs. Made where? In the USA. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got to do the math. I think we will. Okay. I think you get two a day.
[00:44:26] I figured two a day sounds about right, but not one a day, not three or four. I have to imagine that somebody within the sound of my voice in the audience has got this exact bucket. Exactly. I believe it. Somebody sitting on the ready hour. Ready hour. Manufactured 11, 2021. So nice three and a half years old. This is the four week food supply up to 25 year shelf life. What do we got? I don't know. Where do you store this thing? It looks like it gets a lot of sun. It, um, I think it got sun from the window maybe.
[00:44:55] So we'll see if it's actually any good. So much for the cool dry place. Through the window at my house, maybe. Or actually I think that might be water damage. I don't know. So it looks like we got apple. Well, here's the thing. Not everything in there is contained. I've made the, you know, I pulled some things out. Yeah. So we got apple granola. We got white rice. I don't mind getting stuck with white rice and chicken chunks. White cooked. I'll do the model diet if we have to do it.
[00:45:23] And then it looks like some kind of vegetarian macaroni. So that's what's in there, but I didn't include everything in there because that's, that's a 14 day bucket. So should I open and look? So let's do that. How do you do vegetarian macaroni? The tarantula gonna fly out of it? Yeah. Fake cheese? Is it cheese made from tofu? Probably. Wow. Yeah, disgusting. Wow, that's gotta be really bad. Cheese for tofu is tough to work. Extra bad for you. Extra, extra, extra. Extra GMO.
[00:45:53] All right, so there's two. Marijuana in here. There's essentially two people's stuff. Here's your chocolate pudding powder. Okay. So this came in a big bag and I chopped it into three bags. So here's one person's. Okay. That's about 400, 500 calories worth. Chocolate pudding. Uh, yeah. That would help. So nothing else is chopped up like that, but I had to do it because that came in like a half pound bag. Okay, I gotcha. Are you supposed to add your own milk to that? Water. Water pudding? Yep.
[00:46:22] Water pudding, baby. You've not lived. You're supposed to whisk for seven minutes. Enjoy. You fart more. It's gonna be pretty damn chunky. It's gonna be disgusting. That'll be calorie. But hey, you can use it however you want. You can put it in your coffee. Make a little hot chocolate over the day. I might try that myself. Yeah, thin it out and drink it might be better. Might be. Cheesy broccoli rice soup. Yep. That's probably awesome actually. Oh, this is my favorite. This is my favorite survival food of all.
[00:46:52] Because it's so deceiving. Because you see creamy chicken rice and you think, oh, this is gonna be like rice and gravy and chicken bits. But it's actually creamy chicken flavored rice. Exactly. So it's just rice and freaking chicken broth. Yup. Yeah. That's a sneaky one. Oh, man. Nice. There's a fire starter right there. You get for that fork. What did you say? 500. 500 calories.
[00:47:21] You want about, if you want to put that whole, all that, it's about two cups of water. Add about two to two and a half cups of water if you wanted to do it all at once. But yes. Put that in a shaker. Right? You can do that. That makes it like pudding though, like real thick. Yeah. I wouldn't do it like what you were talking about at ranger school or at OCS where you mix some coffee, instant coffee with a tablespoon of that. Oh wait, we got the Maple Grove Oats. That looks good.
[00:47:51] That's, oh I forgot actually. That Maple Oats has so much it's either where we could split it or you know, someone could have it. Eight servings at 230. That's another one of those issues that Future Dam is bringing up that. Wait a minute. It's hard to break up eight servings of oatmeal. Eight times 230? Yeah. Eight servings at 230 calories per serving. Three servings. 1,600. Form factor. Form factor. Listen, I have some stuff in there. You want me to go get it? Then it's smaller. Well is it ready Art?
[00:48:20] I think it is. I think it's ready. We want to stay on brand. Traveler's Stew. Okay, so that's what we saw. That weird one. Yeah. That's the one with the macaroni Tony. Traveler's Stew. Pasta lentil. Oh, there's lentils in it. Onion, celery, and a rich chicken flavored broth. Okay. Pancakes? You kidding? That's another problem. It's a huge pouch. That might be another one.
[00:48:46] So this is, honestly, both the oatmeal and the pancakes don't have to be included in it. You'd still get 6,000 calories out of these other packets. Oh, so why don't we just say screw the oatmeal and the pancakes then? Unless... There's not much variety though, but it's pretty minimal. The variety is the last thing on my mind that's coming in May, I think. Alright. I mean, if that makes it easier. It does make it easier. Cutting it up and putting it into ziplock bags and then doing the calculations on that. Yeah.
[00:49:16] I want to give each product a fair review. I guess that's true. And eating only their pancakes all week probably wouldn't do that. Well, we would split this into two or three pieces. It's just a pain in the ass, but it would be... Like, hand it out another way. No, these are supply... Oh, foods. Yeah. Foods. Augustin Farms. Yep, exactly. Augustin Farms. We almost did that because I have a few of those too. I like Augustin, but I buy the big... I like the staples from Augustin. They're good.
[00:49:44] I get some bigger ones like that, but I don't know if they're individual or any better. These are smaller. I think we're good. Okay. I think if you remove those but keep these, it's still about 6,000 calories. So we can count the pudding as breakfast. There's only four different types. Yeah. So... Chocolate coffee pudding for breakfast. Heck yeah. Phoning in the old... I'll do the quick math. I mean, this right here is 2,000 calories by itself. Creamy chicken flavored rice. Yes.
[00:50:13] Four servings at 500 calories per service. Right there, that's a third of your week just in this. And this is just like Mountain House. It's all add water. Yes. No, these are 20 minutes, I think. You gotta boil them? Yeah, see, reduce heat. It's like cotton rice, you gotta cook it a little bit. Reduce heat to medium cooking for 20 minutes. So five cups of water to this whole pack and then cook 20 minutes. Let's stand for two to three. This is hard. This is hard right here. Yeah. We can sit here and split these up, but now you gotta give me those directions.
[00:50:43] I won't know what to do. I took pictures of some of them. I don't need them, I remember them. I did a big article where I reviewed all... Oh, you don't have to cut these up. You get this whole... Kind of. I mean, this goes home with you like that. I remember all of them are 20 minutes. Those are 20 minutes, I'm sure. Yeah, we ate it all. This is the chip. Eat it Wednesday, Friday. For the price and for the flavor, ready hour is it. If you're gonna buy pre-eat. I think I heard you say that one time on a daily hour. It really is, yeah. I mean, my opinion. I've never tried it before. Actually, that's wrong.
[00:51:11] There were some banana, like a big pack of banana slices or whatever. Yeah. I ate those up last weekend. They were decent. I think ready wise, which is to me like the fanciest of the, you know, survival meals. I think they have the best tasting pre-made stuff, but they're expensive. They're way more expensive than ready hour. Yeah. Ready hour is affordable and has, I think the best for the price. I think that's, I think I got ready wise from Costco.
[00:51:39] Yeah, I see that. They had their, they had their things and it was on final clearance and I'm like, yeah. Ready wise is for, for survival food. It's, you know, it's about the tastiest that I have. Coming off of like a valley food storage. That stuff's rough. Probably not something I should say on the air. It's my, it's my opinion. It is what it is. We're saying a sponsor way back when G-Man had. Years ago. G-Man had. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:52:07] You might, you might want to, uh, not, not pre-ordain the, uh, outcome of the reviews. Good point. Yeah. True. This needs to be censored. But everybody has a ton. Well, I, I, I don't have a ton of experience eating MREs to be honest. So that'll be all. That's the only one I got experience at. And Mountain House I already love. Ready hour is. One time we. Competition will be stiff. Stiff for sure. We got Lerps. Now this is way back when C rations were around.
[00:52:34] And Lerps were these, they were the very first freeze dried. Oh, they were freeze dried. They were freeze dried. How did you guys deal with that? Uh. You had to boil water in the field? Yeah. Okay. Uh. And we only got them for a, you know, for a, you're getting Lerps. Probably cause they were leftover from Vietnam. Uh. And we're like, what the hell's a Lerp long range patrol meal? It sounds delicious. Lerp patrol. Yeah.
[00:53:02] Did they make it sound like that on purpose? It was, it was, it was huge. It sounds like a Lugian burp. It was a big pouch. And you heated your, your water in your canteen cup. And then you poured it in the pouch and stirred it around until, until it became edible. Right. That's kind of what I expect this to be. Just kind of stirred it. Updating myself with the army stories, but uh, I only saw a T-Rat once. Oh. In Germany. And it, and it, and it was a, uh. Is it a tin ration?
[00:53:30] It's a big tray for group meals. Like a Swanson's. Okay. Yeah. It wasn't bad. It wasn't bad. I wouldn't want to eat it tomorrow. Tin rations, I don't know if they, they came out and went away. Cause MREs arrived. Oh. It was a short lived thing. Yeah. And it was like, how many guys do you have? 10 guys. Okay. Well this feeds 20 here. That's exactly what we're doing right now. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:54:00] They could not break down that tin. No. You understand? So, and the, and the, the kitchen trailer wasn't a kitchen. It was just a thing that boiled water. And you would run these trays through it and it would come out the other end. So they were steamed? Uh, no boiling water. So the whole thing went through boiling water. Yep. Oh God. And it heated up and then you cut the, and like Salisbury steak. Yeah.
[00:54:30] Just like Swanson's. Oh, I was raised on that stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. But it was very short lived. I had a T-Rat pudding. Ooh. Yeah. Wow. Pudding for 12. I know. Probably wasn't too far off from this. Seriously. You, there was no way to break it down. Yeah. And some people got shafted. Some people got extra. Yeah. And it was. Yeah. The, the idea was. Okay. You had a, you had a mess crew. Okay. You know? Yeah.
[00:54:59] Oh, we can take these guys out if we give them tea rations cause anybody can boil water. Ah. Ah, I gotcha. And it was like a one size fit all type thing and it did not work. Oh man. Well that probably had a, there was a lot of leftovers in the nineties when I was getting them. Yeah. That probably had a lot to do with why it went away too. And rodent problems. Oh no. You know, cause what do you do? You got extra. I mean, bury that. Yeah. That's about it. Right.
[00:55:29] Remember the shelf stable bread? Oh yeah. Little. That would come with the MRE. Yep. And it was vacuum seals about the size of your hand or four inches by three inches. By, by a three quarter inch, but it was vacuum sealed. So actually when you open it up, it was and that was all for you. Oh man, huge. Huge. Oh no. It made eating the entrees, the MREs, you know, way better. I bet. Now I'm getting bread. You're dipping. Well you didn't always get it. No.
[00:55:59] It was a delicacy. You're dipping bread, ripping chunks off, living large. The next night you got no bread, you feel like shit. We want to lay down some dates to actually do things in addition to starving ourselves on the week. That's a good idea. Well, you know what? We're going to be kind of flexible. We're going to shoot, right? Are we going to shoot? What's the update on shooting then?
[00:56:28] We don't have an update on shooting. No update. Well, the range goes to 300 meters. And... I have no idea what to do at a range like that just so everybody knows. The one you sent us? Yeah. We can rent it. We can rent it. Look at a thousand yard. Yeah, I know, but you have to go to a class to be able to shoot on the... And it's only open on Wednesday, I think. Yeah. That range. Yeah, it's cool.
[00:56:57] And the 600 yards are... Well, there's always 600, yeah. And the 600 yards are also the same. Or we had to have a class and or only on the weekdays or something. But I would be down to go there on a Friday, you know, Friday or Saturday or Sunday to go shoot on three, 400 meters, but he wants to go to a thousand. I don't know if that's viable. We had to get a membership. You gotta... Yeah, you gotta do the membership or get the class or something. Or pay a guy off. Hey, can't broadcast the network just rent the range?
[00:57:26] I mean... What... Yeah, I guess. What does it cost to rent the range? I have no clue. But... But they still ain't gonna let us shoot. You can't even shoot. Yeah, they ain't gonna let us shoot without it. You can shoot up to 300 meters. What's the... What's the waiver for that cost? Uh... You gotta go to the class. I don't know. Yeah, I don't think they're gonna let you just shoot... They're not gonna let you shoot a thousand meters. A thousand meters. Just because you show up and be like, I think I can do it. You know what I mean?
[00:57:57] 300 meters and we're shooting at steel targets? I mean, you'll know if you hit or not. I'd be all for that. Yeah, he's done so much of that. He said he wants to go long. But maybe they let you in the 600 meter while we do the 300. But... It sounds like you gotta take it. I look for one of those classes. I was interested in one of the classes, but the next one's not until like June or July. I forgot which one, so... I should do it though. Oh yeah, definitely.
[00:58:25] If you're gonna be trained to shoot... You know, that distance and you only have X and you know, there's a ratio, they probably fill up like insanely quick. So we're looking at that. Fish hunt and forage in pairs and three at a time, whatever you feel like heading our way.
[00:58:55] I'd go downstate. I'd go downstate if you had someplace you wanted to go for one of the weekends. One of like four consecutive Saturdays do something productive for Rashid or Ruin. I'm down for that. I'd just take my mind off of it. That's a good call. Keep us moving. Yeah. Well, we could go turkey hunting. Turkey hunting would be good one. We could do that right out back here. In the field? Yep. Right. Well, I don't know if the old man...
[00:59:21] The old man probably won't let us, but we can do it out the back of my house and I'll put the blind out and then we can shoot that way. Yeah. And there's... Send him up into the blind. Let me go set it up. No, I'll be there. Then we go set up the blind and I'll get through the calls too. I'm pretty good at the turkey hunting. There's a fishing spot near here and then you got a guy that might go fishing with one of those days. But I'd like to go down and sit down in one of your spots too. We could definitely go down and fish the James River. That would be fun.
[00:59:50] That'd be a weekend and then hunting weekend and then another fish weekend and then we're good. I don't know how... My only concern if you guys come all the way down my way is you gotta travel catfish two hours. Uh huh. Back. I mean on ice wouldn't be a big deal. No, no, no. You're cooking them with us on the back. Oh, but I mean we could do that too. But that ain't gonna help you much the Monday after. You know what I mean? Sure. It is a feeding day. You know, I'm saying storing any or getting given any extra. Right. I hadn't really thought about that. I thought about just eating what we get.
[01:00:20] You can pack a cooler with ice. Well, that's true. I mean that's true. Yeah. We could definitely... I got a great spot for it. I mean the spot by where I live is really great for that. We'll be desperate by week two, week three. We'll be like, I want all the catfish I can eat. There's a couple islands there that we can hang out on. People make fires there all the time. So it wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. Only if the warden lets me go. Yeah, that'll be a hike for Dave Jones. I mean I'd go. There's absolutely... There's a lake around here to go fish maybe. Or we could definitely hunt around here.
[01:00:50] The Shenandoah River is right there. Right there, yeah. Yeah, I don't know other than smallmouth what they have. They probably got... I have my... I got my disability. Oh. I have a permanent... A permanent hunting and fishing license? Nice. Permanent. Permanent. Tags too or... Everything. Oh wow. Cause I'm broken. Yeah, sure. So go out hunting and enjoy. Another? I'm alright. Thanks, I appreciate it.
[01:01:17] I'd say fishing maybe... The closer to the end of the month, the better for the James River. The closer we get to June, the lower it'll be, the easier it'll be to traverse. We will be like walking in water. Okay. That's kind of how we roll. Got my big boots or whatever they're called. I don't want to even use them. I don't want to even use them. I'll use like just an old pair of sneakers and bait and stuff. Okay, I can do that too. I might pick up some waders for duck hunting anyways. Duck hunting is a good call man. I would love to.
[01:01:47] I've never gone duck hunting, but duck is one of my favorite foods in the world. That's a... That's an autumn event. Yeah, that's true. But I'll tell you that hunting duck, when they're out, when you found them, is a blast. I bet it is. It's a blast. I mean, I grew up doing it with Nintendo. Yeah, exactly. And the dog laughing at me. Yeah. You know what I mean?
[01:02:11] So, the fishing trip, I'd say keep that either the second or last or the last. And the hunting, we've got to do either the first or second weekend because... Ends on the 17th. Okay. Yeah. No matter where you are, it doesn't go beyond the 17th. Well, if we're doing it on private land, that changes a lot. Yeah. Because Dave knows the area. I mean... Yeah, now I don't know. You're going to have to get here early and be patient. Yeah, we'll have to be... Call them and call them and call them.
[01:02:41] I'll have to come up here at 3am probably. The turkey I saw was right up here. I was going to say, like, come late afternoon, early even the night before, get it all set up, go to sleep, wake up. We'll have it set up days before. Smoke one of those coyotes you got up here too. That counts. You can shoot them anytime. Yeah, absolutely. I'm not sure about eating it though. I don't know either. I don't know. I got only a few lines, dog. Canine is a thing. Canine is close to my heart. You know how I approach that? Huh?
[01:03:13] Setting people off the table, I'll never go there, but... Everything else alive on this planet, it's a matter of days. Okay? So for me... I feel like a communist if I eat a dog. I think dog and horse are probably out on the 14 day horizon. Many, many insects are earlier than... Yeah. ...that cat, dog, horse. Oh, I eat a horse right now. There's a point in time where you're gonna have to eat them. I know a... Eat zebra. I know a horse would be good. A guy at the table, he said, no, I can't eat zebra.
[01:03:43] It's too much like a horse. You're hungry enough. I'm hungry enough. Pass it over here, pal. I'm not a big fan of lizards and reptiles either. I don't really like eating them. I think they're pretty gross. So they're day what gator? Oh, I mean, if I had to eat them, I'll eat them. I'm talking about preference. Like, without eating anything else, are they day 10 food? Oh, no way. If I find it, it could be day one. Okay. You know, if we're like at that point. I'm at this place called Carnival. But eating a dog would be tough. I'd have to be real hungry.
[01:04:12] It's a huge restaurant in Kenya, in the capital. Nairobi? Yeah. Nairobi. And there was this spit, huge spit in the center of the restaurant and all these different meats are on there. And there's a white guy on it. I'm kidding. And you just said the guy would bring it around and he'd say, this is zebra. This is alligator. Nice. Like Fogo de Chão.
[01:04:41] This is gazelle. Nairobi. Probably awesome. Gazelle's probably awesome. Crocodile. Yeah, it was all good. What's the Brazilian? Teruscarium. Yeah, sounds like that. Yeah. That's what he's saying. Fogo de Chão. Yeah, they're fun. They're good. Dreaming about them. You'll be having some dreams about a Fogo de Chão about that third week. You ever see Bear Grylls when he ate zebra? Uh-uh. He ate raw right off the Caliari floor. Went out there like, this is extremely dangerous. How did he get it? In an emergency situation.
[01:05:11] How did he get it? He was just dead out there. He walked by it. Oh, he ate a dead one. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, I would say that would be extreme. It was close to the same episode where he drank his own piss. Oh, I saw that one. I'm like, what? Wow. No, he did not hold back. Hey! And then he threw up. You could survive that way. Yeah, that helped. Oh, he drank his pee and threw up. He stored it in the skin of a snake. Sure. And then, and then.
[01:05:43] Yeah! The balance is, the balance is lower. That was in the Kalahari Desert. You did that or something. Yeah, it was Sahara. Or the Sahara. Sahara. Oh my gosh. Yeah, but I watched those guys before I was a prepper and now that, after everything I know now, I'm like, I wouldn't, they'd have to pay me really well. Well, I saw one where he's in Brazil, the Amazon rainforest, and he says, he's gonna climb this 150 foot tree. That sounds like a good one to die. Just to look.
[01:06:12] Just to look around. I'm like, dude, you fall down from there? Oh, you don't have to worry about anything if you fall down. It's over. Yeah. You're done. And I'm like, I would never do that in a million years. You might have nothing else to do though. Go downhill. Water goes downhill. Follow the water to the next. Yeah. Do you understand? Oh yeah. You don't have to know where you are. Yeah, that's true. I feel like rainforest wouldn't be all that bad. There's gotta be a ton of like...
[01:06:42] Grubs. Yeah. Stuff. Plants, shit, I'd recognize something. Some panther doesn't get your ass. Lots of reptiles. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It might be food. Exactly. What word of that are like snakes and spiders. Are you eating meat for white food? Yeah. Exactly. Look, he looks a little porky. Yeah. Yeah. Western diet. Bankster chunks white cooked. Yeah. Medium air. Well, I think we got it, huh? Yeah, what else? We got the food relatively divvied out.
[01:07:12] We got the rules divvied out. If anybody wants to play along, I'd highly recommend it. Even if you only do it for a week, I think it would be a game changer. Yeah. You'll learn a lot. Yeah. You definitely learn a lot. Anything else? Just from my experience in fasting, the kind of like emotional mental part is harder than the actual hunger and lack of energy. I agree. You get a little hungry and you definitely lose some energy, but it's like way more mental.
[01:07:41] So I feel like if you power through it, it goes in waves. So like, I don't know. I'm hoping after week one, we'll kind of get used to just the malaise. We'll see. It's a long time though. That's, I think it's going to make it actually maybe the hardest, uh, as our highland exercise. Cause it's a month. Yeah. I can do anything for 36 hours, 48 hours, but like the hardest 30 days, vines for that long. No, that's different. I guess that was like hour 32. And after that we were done, you know, it was rough though.
[01:08:11] Yeah. Yeah. But if I had to do this at the same time, that'd be different. So this is all separately. Then they all come together. The fifth capstone in 2026. That's what we'll do. But anyway, it's going to be a long slog marathon, not a sprint, but, um, I don't know. I'm looking forward to it. I think everyone will learn a lot. It's the most realistic exercise. Like no matter what happens, if stuff hits the fan, you're going to have food issues of one sort of or another. So.
[01:08:41] It's a good chance. Even if you got like a year of this food, you're still going to be tough. Now, do I eat, save it for later? Yeah. That's it. All right, folks. Well, you'll clearly be updated from all or some of us at, at through most of the month of May. So buckle up and, uh, give it a shot. Talk to you guys soon. We'll talk to you guys soon. All right.
