Hmm a Pepper broadcasting network. We have to hit the reset money to create a true culture preparedness, starting at a very young age and filtering all the way up. Welcome to the gun Metal Armory. Here's your host, Daan d. What's up everybody, It's Danged from the gun Metal. Sorry, I've been out for the last couple of weeks. I've had a few things come up, and a couple of weeks ago, I had a pretty bad migraine, so you know, some things were getting in my way. But I am back now and we are going to dive back into World War II resistance cells and the training that they received during their time with the SOE and the OSS, What type of stuff they would have learned, and how that can be applicable in any way, shape or form to you. So last week when we left off, or not last week, a couple of weeks ago, when we left off, we were talking about operational orders. We're talking about basically how the leader of a resistance group would give orders and how that would work. We got deep into information, intention method, administrative arrangements, intercommunication, general security. All these things were important and would be important if you were going to be conducting any kind of operation. We didn't get a chance to cover as much of the general security side of things as I would have liked, so I'm going to cover that a little bit. I don't have a whole lot of time today, but we're going to cover that a little bit. But before I do, I want to mention that there are some pretty bad wildland fires going on here right now in the part of Arizona that I'm in, and it's very hard to breathe outside right now, and it's just very very difficult where we're at right now. So hopefully this podcast will get through. Hopefully I'll be able to upload it so you guys can hear it. But I just want to let you guys know what was going on here. The fire is not terribly close to where I live, but it could be very very quickly. If the wind changes direction or a few other factors come into play, it could easily be at my doorstep within a few hours. So right now we are safe, just as a heads up, we are safe, but that could change, so any who We'll just be keeping our eyes on that. So back to the general security side of things and underground resistance cells. Back during World War two. So something that they talk about is the necessity involved in preserving security. How how how that how that is of the utmost priority basically to preserve security completely throughout the entire operation, but also right up until the point where you are about to execute the operation. Okay, So they talk about the organizer or the leader of the group and how they need to keep all of that stuff in mind, and of course, you know, pass on certain information when it's necessary. But they do say that there are some general rules in place for a leader or the organizer of that underground resistance cell. Okay, you may want to get out of piece of paper and write some of this down. It's up to you. You can always play it back later if you want to, or save this podcast. But some of the things that they talk about that the leaders and the organizers of those underground resistance cells need to be prepared to do and during any operation is be ready to issue the orders, the execute order, the strike order, whatever you want to call it. Be ready to issue those orders as late as possible. In other words, read for the last second. You guys may have heard the saying for marines where they say first to go, last to know that is a kind of a nod to we know we're going to go, but we don't know where we're going to go. Right, So something to keep in mind with underground groups too. Only the top leadership should know what operations are going to take place, and even at that, you may only have one guy in that top leadership actually know what that target is. And if that's the case, then that is good because it's really hard to get information from someone if it's not known. Okay, the next thing, avoid writing down orders. Avoid writing down the orders. Right, So if you've got a team of guys and you issue the order, hey, we're going to hit this rail yard over here in you know, brilliant Germany or whatever back in World War Two. Right, if you say we're gonna hit this rail yard, you don't want your guys writing all that down. Okay, if you're on the you know, Morse code radio b b b b b b b b b B, you know, you're talking to your guys over in the Great you know, over in Great Britain, UK, whatever you're gonna call it. You're talking to them over in America. You're talking to them you know wherever. Okay, any order they give you over the radio. You don't want to be writing those down either, Okay, either either whatever you want to go with. So this is all stuff that you need to keep in mind when you are putting together these kind of operations. Okay, this is all stuff that you would have needed to keep in mind. Next thing, give orders to each operator or party depending on what it is. If you've got a single operator doing a certain job, then that's who you're giving the orders to. But if you've got a group of guys doing a certain job, then those are who you're giving the orders to. Give orders to each operator or party separately as far as possible. Okay, why would you need to give orders to each operator separately? Well, there are a few reasons why you may need to give them orders separately, because they have separate orders, right, they have separate jobs, separate things they need to accomplish, separate goals. Or maybe you're not sure who you can trust in that group. Maybe someone is suspected of being an informant, a freaking fed, or whatever the frick you want to call them. Dude, you know that kind of crap. You know, back then it would have been the Gestapo, Right, So something to considered there. Okay. The other reason is so your guys don't go run and jump ahead. Okay. They will generally keep those orders close to the vest until it's time, so they know, Hey, if I, you know, if I, if I let this pitbull off the leash, it's gonna be hard to call them back. Right, So keep the orders to each operator separately. Okay, keep them separate, all right. Next, do not tell anyone more than they need to know for that operation. Again, just like we talked about earlier, it's really hard to get information from someone if they don't know the information. Okay, So think about that, you know, just remember that. Okay. Something that I've always tried to stress in the classes that I teach and in the groups that I work with, I try to teach operational security to a level that is almost annoying. Okay, So think about this. I was in a I think I've told you guys this story before, but I'll tell you this story again because it happened again. I was in another gun shop and looking for parts, you know, whatever, whatever, and a couple of gentlemen in there I could overhear talking about their plans to stockpile food to stockpile ammunition to put back, various different survival items, and some other things that were really things that they shouldn't have been talking about out loud. Then they proceeded to speak about their communication plans. Okay, the last time this happened, the time that I told you guys about before, was just one guy at a gun shop that owned the gun shop that told me about his communication plans. This was two guys in a different gunshot. They started talking about their communication plans. Okay, what kind of radios they're gonna use? Oh, we're using you know, YESU or whatever freaking hell it was. Okay. Then they start talking about, you know that they have bug out locations, both of them do, and all their friends do, and all their friends, you know know, to come to their place to regroup. And these certain friends are storing stuff at their house and oh yeah, it's up in the mountains over and blah blah blah. Oh where's that? Oh dude, it's right next to this lake off of this road. And I'm just freaking sitting there standing next to them, you know, looking at an air fifteen behind the counter, and I'm hearing everything, all of it, bro all of it, man. So keep in mind who is around you, keep in mind what you're saying. These things are very, very important, and that is one of the biggest reasons that you do not tell anyone more than they need to know for that operation. You know, like I said, because they could be you know, an undercover informant, or because they could just have loose lips and we know loose lips sing ships. Right, another little World War II action there. So keep your mouth shut, keep it quiet, don't tell them, not until they're absolutely walking out the door to do that mission. Okay, next thing, zero hour or the hour of execution or the moment that you will execute the operation. They like to call that zero hour. That is going to be held in secret until literally the last minute. So I'll give you an example. Let's say you are rolling through I don't know, freaking Afghanistan or something whatever, and you are planning to, you know, hit a certain building. Well, yeah, if you and your boys roll heavy, you're gonna roll with nods. You're gonna roll at a certain time of night. Now, you know, in Afghanistan, in Iraq, most of those you know, the spec ops teams, the guys that rolled heavy the pipe hitters. Those guys would roll in on shoppers helicopters. Right, So the bad guys knew when they heard choppers that, oh, well they're coming to get somebody in this area. Right. But if they didn't hear choppers, they knew that they could pretty much chill that whole night, you know, or conduct their operations. So if you and your boys are smart, you're gonna be as quiet as you can. Number one, Number two, You're not going to roll in with choppers. Tell you that. Now. Granted, you know we're talking more like World War two when choppers weren't really a thing. Okay, So now glider, sure, now that's more impossible. But armored vehicles, you know, things of that nature, or even rolling in on foot, that might be your best bet, even better than you know, some kind of rapid ingress and egress vehicle like a chopper. Right. So anyways, zero hour withhold that until the last minute. You guys are on your armored vehicle. You're rolling to the target. Only one or two guys know what the target is, and no one knows what zero hour is except for you. Okay, So y'all are rolling, You're going and going and going, you know. The guy next to you looks just and says, hey, Dane, it's freaking one am. What are we doing. We're on our way to the target. He says, yeah, I know that, I'm aware of that. But do we just attack when we get there? And says nope, I'll tell you in a minute. So you're paying attention to where you are, You're looking around outside, paying attention. You get a little ways out from the target, and then you stand up in that vehicle and you tell you guys what zero hour is, what time you're going to hit that place? Okay? Or you can go a little differently. You can go ahead and let your guys know right as they're walking into the vehicle, or right before they get into the vehicle. Hey, our zero hour is one am. Our zero hour is two am. We are going to hit that place right at two right, So that's an option. But I'm sure there are some other ways to do it, and I'm sure you guys can figure those out. I just want to give you some examples. Next, don't forget you do not or rather, you need to observe this this this information, Okay, you need to pay attention to this information. WARRN operators. Warn your team that plans may have to be canceled at the last minute, and keep in mind and let them know to keep in mind that there may not be a reason that you're going to give. There may not be a reason at all for you or your team. The higher ups whoever canceling that mission, okay, and they do not need to question it. You know, you don't need them on the team if they're going to question it. All they used to do is say sorry, Okay, that's fine, you know, no big deal, right, But be sure to warn those operators that the plans may have to be canceled the last minute without any explanation. Next, after you give the orders to your team of SOE and OSS operates horrors. After you've given out those orders person by person by person, ask if anyone has questions. Okay, somebody may have a question. You know, I didn't get that code right, or I need to remember how to I don't know dust for fingerprints or something, I don't know, whatever it is. Ask if the operators have any questions before you guys leave to go on that mission. Okay, I think it's very very important that and you'll want to have your team repeat their specific orders back to you. That ensures that they hurt you correctly and that they know what to do. Very very important. Okay, let's see. The final general security tip is to remind your guys to number one, avoid showing that they succeeded at something like don't go out and celebrate. You know, that's a sure sign that something has happened. Okay, and the evil doers in the area, the evil people like let's say you're in Europe and you're in Nazi controlled France and you're walking around celebrating right after one of their fuel depots just exploded. Well, who are you going to think? They're going to think is responsible for it. They're going to think it's you because you're all happy, go lucky dude. I mean, hell, you may have just gotten a freaking raise at work. It may be nothing, but they don't know that, so they're going to automatically assume that it has something to do with them. Okay, so keep that in mind. The other thing to warn your soldiers about your operators about is to avoid meeting up with each other in public, especially after that operation is over with. Okay, So if you guys have an operation. The operation goes perfectly or it goes badly, doesn't matter, what does matter. But you know this information doesn't matter to the way that I'm presenting it. So be sure to not meet up any more than you have to after the operation is done, because that raised the suspension too. So be sure that you're not meeting within you one up until you know, you know, until after the operation is long long long past, Okay, And granted there will probably be some times where you will need to meet up and so on, right, but don't meet any more than you absolutely have to, all right, Just keep that in mind, all right, So next thing, there will be what are called final arrangements. Okay, throughout the final arrangement period prior to the team departing for any kind of operation. Now, keep in mind some of these operations will be deep, deep, deep deep behind enemy lines. And I'm talking like, you're gonna have to look like you're a civilian behind enemy lines. You're gonna have to play that part. So you're gonna have to have a cover story. You're gonna have to look like a someone who belongs there. Every single detail of that cover story, and that persona has to be perfect or as close as you can get. Okay. So throughout that period before you depart to go behind in me lines, they say that you should go over the details of your story, go over your identification, your papers, and all that stuff, and make sure that you become thoroughly informed on each and everything. Okay. If your person that you're supposed to be has a wife and kids, memorize her face in the picture, because you're probably gonna get a picture of her, Okay, so memorize her face. Memorize the faces of your children you know, Memorize their names, Memorize your wife's name, Memorize the dates of birth. Memorize all these things, and do not leave any holes in it. Where did you guys meet, so on and so forth? Okay. It talks about sometime before departure, make sure that you will take with you everything that you will require, and that there will be nothing which can give away your cover story, which can give away to the enemy that you were not who you say you are. Okay, it's necessary to carry out checks imbalances. Right, So let's think about how our body looks, what kind of clothing we have or not clothing rather facial hair, or haircut or anything like that. Okay, So let's say you're going in a twhuman team. You need to examine your partner very very carefully. Okay, what does their haircut look like? Do they have a beard, do they have a mustache, do they have a goatee, do they have a ponytail? You know, so on and so forth. Okay, and furthermore, does what their haircut, you know, does their haircut and their facial hair or lack thereof, does that match their cover story? Okay, so that may be a little bit vague to you, but let me explain. If you claim to be a military man but you have a beard, you know, in this day and age, yeah you might be a Green Beret. But back then, there was a lot of the whole gas mask thing, right. They were worried about mustard, gas zipins, you know, they're worried about gas, you know, various different types of you know, deadly gases. So all military men were shaved. I granted, you wouldn't want to be posing as military man or anything, you know, and not to Europe. But that's just an example. Okay, let's say your example is oh gosh, let me think, let's say your example is someone who works in a kitchen. Okay, back then, they wanted people's haircuts to be short if they worked in a kitchen because they want their hair falling in the food. Okay, if you say you're a cook, but you have really long hair, well that might not fit so well. So keep that kind of stuff in mind. The next thing is you'll want to look over each other's hands, fingernails, feet, and so on. Think about if your story is that of like a construction worker or someone who does manual labor. Are your hands rough and callous and beat up or are they super soft? Because if they're super soft, you're not going to pass for a worker. You're just not going to pass to you because no worker's hands would be that soft. Okay. The next thing I just said too, what about your fingernails. No manual laborers fingernails are going to be all, you know, pretty and nice. I mean, I don't know any other way to put it. Dude, they're not going to have nice looking hands because they use them all freaking time, all day. Okay, so make sure that that stuff matches. The other thing, if you're going to try to pass that you're a refugee and you've walked for one hundred miles, Well, your boots better show it, or your shoes better show that you've been walking for a minute. Okay, you've been walking for quite oh wow. Okay, so keep that in mind. All that stuff matters. If you're supposed to be a smoker, well then you can have nicotine stains on your fingers and you know, cigarettes with you. But if you're not supposed to be a smoker, make sure you wash your hands, get that smell off of you. Okay, use clothes that are proper, but do not have that smell anywhere near you because it'll give you away. Another reason to get rid of that smell and nicotine is because it makes you shaky. It makes it very very difficult to do certain things. We won't talk about that stuff right now, No CQB or anything like that. Okay, clothing, let's think about clothing for a minute. Okay, what about the quality of the clothing that you have on Now, keep in mind during German you know, Nazi Europe, those guys had relatively decent fashion. Okay. They knew what looked good and what did not look good, so they would take the time to make themselves look nicer. So you need to be keeping that in mind as to exactly how excuse me, exactly how your clothes look and do they conform to your cover story number one? Number two? Are these clothes brand new or are they worn in That's another thing to consider. Even in modern day America, if you want to be a spy or you want to be undercover or whatever, you don't go to the local, you know, department store and buy new clothes because it looks freaking ridiculous. You know, when you pull up as an undercover officer and you've got freaking perfectly pressed clothes and all that crap. Dude, that makes no sense. The first thing anybody thinks is, you know, cop or fed right, it's freaking ridiculous. So keep that in mind. The next thing the labels inside the clothes. If you're going to go that deep behind enemy lines, all the labels have to go. You can't leave something in there that says, you know, made in France or made in the USA. You can't do it because that's going to be a dead giveaway. It's going to be a dead give away. At the very most, you'll have them wondering where you just came from, you know, or at the least they'll wonder where you just came from. At the most, Oh boy, you do not want to get caught. Okay, keep that in mind, all right. Your shoes, your footwear, certain logos, certain trademarks, things like that. Keep that in mind. Fucking shit, uh sorry. Keep in mind when it comes to footwear, about repairing things like the balls of the feet, the heels, the rubber soles, and things of that nature. If you're supposed to look like you've been walking for one hundred miles, then yeah, your shoes might be a little worn out. People that I have walked a really long distance, their shoes are their shoes show it. Man, It's obvious that they walked a really, really far distance. So please keep that in mind. Okay, we are running out of time. The next thing, I'm going to cover one more or two more things, and then next week we'll talk about the rest. Okay. Something to keep in mind is weapons. Do you need a gun? Is it generally only helpful when you're engaged in activity for which there can be no cover story? Is the gun going to be more of a help or more of a hindrance? If you have a good copy or not copy. If you have a good firearm, Okay, you definitely need a good firearm. If you need a firearm, you don't want to crap you one. Okay. Now, there's going to be times where you will, you know, behind enemy lines. Of course, you're going to need a firearm. Right, there are signs where you just there's no good cover story, you know, like if you parachute into the area, it doesn't matter what you say, dude, No, you're there for a certain reason. Okay. Sometimes a gun can be the worst thing to have on you because it gives you away right off the bat. Keep in mind that you may have to stash it or cache it, right, you may have to cash that weapon at some point. You may have to hide it somewhere or bury it somewhere, or something like that. Keep that in mind. Other weapons you can carry maybe less conspicuous, but they might be just as helpful as a firearm. Right, you might be able to use brass knuckles if you can find a pair that fit. You might be able to use a fist pack, you know, something that can really make your punch his heart. You could use a blackjack or a sap that also give it the added benefit. If you hit the person hard enough, you give you the added benefit of being able to interrogate them later, as long as you didn't kill them with your hit. Okay, Keep in mind things like, you know, blackjacks, brass knuckles, fist pack, a large flashlight like a DCEL maglight flashlight. I know they're old, but they make a really good baton. Now, back in the day, they didn't have those, So you might have something like a truncheon or like a oh gosh, I can't think of the stick that Fairbrin had. I figure what he called it, but I'll find out for next week. Keep that stuff in mind, very very very important, okay. And then finally, that is just something that you're going to have to look at. The other things that we're going to go over next week are going to be effects. What do you want to take with you? Do you want to brush a comb, pencil, pen cigarettes, so on, and so forth. After that, we're going to go over habits, your personal habits. Do you clear your throat? Do you sneeze? What about your table manners? Do you write with your left or right hand? Do you spit a lot? So? On and so forth. Next after that will be papers peppers, right, we don't have any peppers now. In World War Two they would forward these papers pretty damn near perfect. Okay, so that wasn't a problem. But nowadays it's very, very difficult to get good papers. Okay, let's see the equipment. You will want to make sure that you have everything you need as far as equipment goes. See like you know, map, compass, flashlight, first aid, a bag and a shovel to bury things if you need to suitcase, some cash, some food, all kinds of stuff like that. Okay, anyways, just keep all of this stuff in mind. And then oh, medications too, you know, do you do you have your cinaide tablet? You know, back then, of course that was I shortant right, you had antibiotics, you had ko drops, you had benza dream, all kinds of stuff. So keep that kind of stuff in mind. It's all very very important to consider. And we'll talk about this more next week. I hope you guys found this interesting. Don't forget that. After we talk about that next week, we'll talk about the arrival behind enemy lines and the days while you're there behind in me lines, whether it be openly or covertly, and how you're going to operate behind me, Lianes, Okay, and then we'll move on from there. Okay, before I go, don't forget I am teaching classes actively. I am teaching a class on s HTF gunsmithing, and I'm teaching a class on civilian tradecraft.
