[00:01:18] Good morning, PBNers. It is Jay Ferg here with Phoenix Survival on this beautiful Saturday morning, February the 10th.

[00:01:28] That is right, we are into February and if you are not following on the chat, the page, the emails you need to, it is calm within chaos month for us, yes, at PBN.

[00:01:44] So, what does that mean for us, right? There's plenty of challenges going on. We're doing a fitness. Follow James, our Intrepid Commander.

[00:01:53] He has some amazing things going on in the emails and our members only area, a lot going on here in PBN.

[00:02:03] So, my title, Tax Time. We all know tax season is upon us to start your taxes, to file your taxes. Some of us have already been able to.

[00:02:14] Some of us are still waiting on our information. What does this mean for us?

[00:02:19] If you haven't already started prepping, now would probably be the time to definitely do so. We see that every time, but there's really a lot behind that.

[00:02:29] So, and little man here has been as vocal as a over two. He's going to help. But think about this.

[00:02:37] For those families who state that money is hard and you have children and you are getting money back, even if it's a little bit I know in our household.

[00:02:49] You know, a lot of times I'm either paying in what little bit does come back. We're paying towards bills because, you know, unfortunately, last year has been a hard year for us. That is just the way it is.

[00:03:02] But what about for those who it isn't? Okay, take that time to one, get caught up on your bills. I completely understand. I will never tell you to not take care of what's responsible or to get what's needed.

[00:03:15] But what about the people who are out there buying frivolous things, brand new TVs or brand new sport bike, you know, sound systems are those things you really need. Yes, they're things we want.

[00:03:27] But are they things that you need. So, what should, what am I suggesting? I'm suggesting you look at paying your bills, maybe putting some money back. I mean, that is more than ideal.

[00:03:40] Put some currency back. Keep it in smaller bills because God forbid if something happens, cash is king. Yes, it's not going to be good forever, but it will still work.

[00:03:50] We are so dependent upon a digital banking system and a digital society that once it crumbles, there won't be anything left to use to pay for things, not really.

[00:04:03] So, even though you hear that cash has no back end and the value is half of what it is, if not less, in a grid down situation, that cash is still king, because someone holds value to it.

[00:04:20] So, I mean, that's, it's really been something I'm really thinking about as you see all these promotions, tax time big savings, Ashley's furniture, da da da da da.

[00:04:32] Come on, folks. Yeah, there are things we need, but it doesn't mean you have to break the bank, the brand new shiny toys that within a week are going to accumulate dust that are going to lose its shine and shimmer.

[00:04:49] Or is going to get worn out or dependent on the household even potentially broken.

[00:04:56] What, what is that to you?

[00:05:01] So, I mean, it really is looking at how can you say.

[00:05:06] I know for some of us tax season is where we have to pay in.

[00:05:11] It is also another thing we need to consider when prepping. Fortunately, we do pay taxes. We have to pay taxes.

[00:05:21] I kind of wish Bill was here. He could go on one of his little perfect rants at this.

[00:05:27] But it's for us as preppers, we prep for all sorts of things, right? You prep for the times that are going to be hard.

[00:05:35] You know, loss of work, fire, tornado, I mean, flood and injury. That's what we've kept for, right?

[00:05:45] So why aren't we taking our breaths throughout the entire year? And yes, it's not easy.

[00:05:51] It's definitely not easy, but that's where we have to sit down and, you know, make a list, make a budget. It's not fun.

[00:06:01] It is annoying. It can be stressful, but it could make a big difference in how you plan for things.

[00:06:09] Grocery shopping.

[00:06:11] I always go back to it because it is a way you can really consider things.

[00:06:17] Consider saving money. Sorry.

[00:06:23] They're just all the time anymore.

[00:06:29] So I go back to grocery shopping because we need food to live.

[00:06:33] Food is going to be what gets you through, right?

[00:06:37] A good shopper will plan out what they're getting. Say, you know, look at cost.

[00:06:47] And we'll even see what they can do to budget, right? You want to be able to get as much food as you can for as little cost as possible, which unfortunately $100 doesn't get you very much.

[00:07:03] But if you think about it, here alone, the restaurant industry is booming. They don't have people who want to work.

[00:07:11] But if you look at.

[00:07:17] So I'm just going to break this down and it's the same for anything else. I know I'm diverting here.

[00:07:23] So I have a friend who reached out to me recently, who asked about some meals that could feed a site of family and could be cost efficient.

[00:07:37] Okay, I absolutely understand that for the longest time. I was cooking for a family of five.

[00:07:43] I made food for six to eight because growing children always are hungry. So are working adults.

[00:07:50] So, prime example.

[00:07:54] We'll say at cost now. I get my hamburger meat for $7 a pound. Okay.

[00:08:04] Let's say I use one pound of ground beef. I can get a bag of potatoes for five bucks.

[00:08:11] And they're decent sized potatoes.

[00:08:14] A bag of vegetables for go around it up to a dollar. I think it's 96 cents.

[00:08:23] If I broke it down on the beef stock.

[00:08:26] Are on the bullion cubes and a hoist or shower sauce.

[00:08:31] There really isn't much on that one because that's something I use all across the board for a lot of meals but just for the main parts of the for shepherd's pie.

[00:08:40] So.

[00:08:42] $13 right.

[00:08:45] Just for the main ingredients for shepherd's pie, $13.

[00:08:51] This mill, I can spread it out.

[00:08:55] If I add extra potatoes, if I add extra whatever $13 can feed a family of four to five.

[00:09:05] Wouldn't know problem.

[00:09:09] Now if you're looking at what that doesn't look like it's enough. My kids have a bigger portion.

[00:09:15] Then.

[00:09:17] Okay.

[00:09:19] You know, add, add an extra pound of meat. Okay, that's $14 total on me. So you add an extra seven.

[00:09:29] So $20 mill. Okay, $20 mill for a family of five to eight people.

[00:09:36] $20.

[00:09:38] Folks, for one mill, shepherd's pie has meat, vegetables and potatoes. You got all three in there starch veggies meat.

[00:09:47] That's.

[00:09:49] $20. Okay.

[00:09:51] When you go out to a restaurant, I don't know anywhere where you can go and get a mill for less than 10 to $15 a person.

[00:10:08] Okay. So maybe at this tax time this year, I know people want, I want to go out. I want to eat. Yes. Fine. Budget for it. But look at what you can do.

[00:10:19] If you look at how much money you spent any year on something like this, you could be looking at how much you could be saving for your taxes, for your preps, for extra food in your house.

[00:10:35] I say make a, a little restaurant jar, whatever you call it, throw a little bit in there every now and then, and use that as okay that's, forget me money.

[00:10:46] You know, I don't have to worry if it's just going to affect our finances, because there's a lot of times where people go out to eat because it's as an air quotes cheap, but it's convenient and easy.

[00:10:59] It's not. You are costing yourself more because then, oh, we're a little tight for this bill that came up, or, oh, I just got to fly.

[00:11:08] Thats you know we don't consider that beyond first world problems and instant gratification so I mean Shepherds Pie $20 at the worst for a household. There are many many other mills that I make that I can make for the the same $20 or less $20 or less is what I try to aim for my house.

[00:11:37] I try to aim for my mills when I cook them because if I look at it that way and when I buy my groceries, I try to stretch it out to know and I can get this many mills out of this, I can get this many mills out of this I think my favorite cheapest mill is a couple potatoes

[00:11:55] and some smoked sausage I think smoked sausage has gone up to $3 or $4 so I think between just me and my partner he and I probably spend we'll say worst of worst $8 total and we have an entire mill

[00:12:12] and entire mill $8 for two people. Come on folks, I mean this this is what it's about because we know, yes or there are going to be days we want to go out there days we're going to want to eat

[00:12:27] and it's just that's it it's cost so tax time isn't just a time to look at you know oh what can I buy what can I get sure there are things I'd love to have

[00:12:43] there would be things I'd love to be able to go and get but when it comes down to it it's not financially feasible for my household

[00:12:55] I've got a little one who's getting bigger so I've got to make sure I've got a little bit of currency if possible put up right now it doesn't seem like that but that's that's what it is so within the chaos of tax time with how our financial system is going with how

[00:13:15] we see the cost of food, rise in and doesn't mean we have to be chaotic in our choices doesn't mean we have to be chaotic within what we do this is your calm if this doesn't bring you calm then you need to reevaluate how you're looking at things

[00:13:35] so you can make things work for you and your family think about what it is you and your family enjoy eating think about what it is you and your family enjoy doing you can go out and have fun with your family without breaking the bank

[00:13:51] go to a park, go for a hike, take your kids on a nature trail teach them the flora and fauna of your region, you know, get your children invested pull away from the TV and these hundreds of dollars, game and systems

[00:14:08] sorry folks I mean I get it there is nothing wrong with being able to let your children play every so often but limit that because what are we doing for them interact engage get them active in their own life

[00:14:25] teach your kids financial skills now, teach them early because unfortunately we are seeing in today's time and I think this is really what triggered it is seeing people my age and even well way younger being frivolous and I get it they're young

[00:14:43] but these kids wouldn't know how to write a check to say they're so let alone how to manage their money because digital currency is king to them, it is a card it is not real it is not viable they don't hold the cash in their hand they don't understand

[00:15:02] at the same gravity that we do and see now you want to be quite it's when I'm talking he wants to talk so I know I'm going on a rant I just I just feel like with everything come on folks tax time take take a look at this

[00:15:25] I mean map out how you can save make a you know what I have a challenge for you for my listeners I don't know how many are active or alive at the moment

[00:15:41] Oh, I see me gray me gray love seeing you I would love for each of you to sit down and just a challenge and I know some of you probably already do this and some of you don't

[00:15:58] write out your cost right cost 11 terrifying I hate doing it but when you when you're doing that look at that okay then look at what you set aside for your groceries I want you to make a week so worth the groceries

[00:16:15] a week worth of meals a week worth of meals I want you to write out those meals now mind you some of these meals can be leftovers well what about the folks who don't eat leftovers fine make smaller portions but look account for that

[00:16:30] okay and then look at a month and write your grocery list shaped on that I promise you you are going to see a huge cost difference if you plan out for the month then if you plan out for the week

[00:16:45] now I'm not I'm not knocking on anyone if that's what you can afford that is fantastic because you've got to start somewhere but it beats the people I know who buy day today

[00:16:56] day to day me gray how about yourself is there anything that you find at tax time or this time of the year that you know people could stretch out know why whether it be financially whether it be economically

[00:17:19] I'm I'm curious of what you think yeah but I would love to see it I would love to see what people's inside is on that because for me I have just found being able to go out once a month versus multiple times

[00:17:41] is the best way I don't I don't care to deal with the crowds hence Walmart I think here opens up at 6 30 am I think Kroger's opens at seven and then pigly wiggly I forgot what time I've actually just decided to change my shopping schedule

[00:18:02] so I can get in as early as possible which does make it a little harder because if you are doing my tip of buying your meat from the meat counter they typically don't open until eight or nine depending where you go to so I usually save my meat cost

[00:18:18] for last or I'll do a separate trip and do my meat meat shopping first so I can get the best thing for my buck because I usually try to have a little more flexibility as far as meat and a little more flexibility and cost for meat than I do for everything else

[00:18:38] all right goes I am dying at this I am gonna go to a quick little bumper so I can go up a bunch of water without it being in your air give me a moment and we'll be right back

[00:18:52] to pay the end your path back the stability half

[00:19:18] okay so me agree did have a great comment in here he says the hardest part is coming off the holidays into tax season so we're coming off the overreaction to spend in of the holidays you are a bullseye on that if you didn't think the holidays weren't overly spent as it is

[00:19:37] let's go into a hyperdrive of excess that follows into the tax season businesses love that folks come on when is the best time to buy buy things is after the season right so they try to egg you on by saying you've got the best deals

[00:19:59] with March Madness or whatever they call it and it's it's ridiculous so in our household we didn't do Christmas we went and saw his family we sent my older three gifts but beyond that we did not do Christmas

[00:20:20] financially it just wasn't in the books for us and we were okay with that because Christmas time yes I can I make gifts and I did that I did make gifts for two of the win you know our moms but beyond that we weren't really worried about it because we had each other

[00:20:38] in the holidays he's supposed to be about this closeness and love and and one another so for us our gifts we would rather have handmade versus going out and spending an arm and a leg on something let's see

[00:20:55] so as me Grace says we tend to react by getting the best bang for the buck by embolcan get the best price per pound hit the restaurant supply store and get the cheapest chicken like orders in pork loin you know what you are absolutely right

[00:21:08] that is what I'm trying to find out here is the best place to be able to buy and that's the initial bill may be larger but the price per pound is much less absolutely and I get that because I do the same thing I'd rather buy all at once once a month

[00:21:23] it's been a chunk that when it breaks down it actually is great you'd be surprised that if you plan out a month of meals and you plan out your month of grocery shopping you will actually have more than a month worth of food

[00:21:42] that sounds crazy because when I buy I attribute to the fact of leftovers and extra because in our house they can stretch they can make the difference between one paycheck to another paycheck to getting through the month to the next mill

[00:21:59] and that makes a huge difference so tax time is for us the time where we sit down and okay how much are we going to have to pay in are we going to even get anything back if we do get anything back what bill is it going to cover

[00:22:17] You know, that for us is how we manage. So it really is coming down to how can you make one of the most stressful times of the year a little less stressful?

[00:22:33] I don't like tax time.

[00:22:35] I don't because I usually get penalized hard because I work for another state and live in South Carolina.

[00:22:42] Yeah, and it is frustrating because the amount of money I end up going in for the penalties for.

[00:22:51] Living in one state and working for another, but unfortunately it's not feasible to work in that state because of the cost of living.

[00:22:59] I'm barely making enough money to afford the cost of living in Myrtle Beach, which is absurd because it has skyrocketed.

[00:23:07] Let's see. Ah, I love what me grace is here is we also have used the scraps from the holidays. Turkey carcass and quotes in older roast freeze dried and fire up the canner putting up suits. No, absolutely.

[00:23:23] I'm 100% there with you. A lot of times when I make a meal such as meatloaf. Super meatloaf. I got the base of the recipe from my ex mother-in-law.

[00:23:35] She's an amazing cook, loved her recipe, did some of my own stuff. I use total in cost, not including the stuff I put into it, just the meat alone.

[00:23:48] I probably spend about $16 total. I usually buy a lot of meats cheaper. So overall, it's probably cheaper than that. But when I make meatloaf, I make two loafs and meatloaf.

[00:24:03] So we have one for that entire night. You know, sometimes leftovers, depending how hungry or less hungry are. If we put aside with it, if it's just a meat light, we'll just have the meatloaf.

[00:24:15] If we want veggies or starches, we'll put that with it. But I will make two loafs when I make meatloaf. I'll let one cool. I will vacuum, sew it and freeze it.

[00:24:26] There's a whole 'nother meal now, because a lot of these meals that you're planning, you know are going to be more than what your family's going to eat.

[00:24:33] And sometimes you know your family's not going to want to eat it another night or wait two nights and eat it again, and then it's food that's going to waste.

[00:24:41] There's no point in that exactly like me, Grace said, is you can take your leftovers, you can take your scraps, you can take meals that you've made and put them up and put them to good use.

[00:24:57] We didn't get to do it, we had talked about it, but some, we had another family emergency come up, but we were going to take.

[00:25:06] So I bought a turkey after the holidays for.

[00:25:13] I got a 20 something dollar bird, I think oh it's 50 cents a pound, I got it for six dollars.

[00:25:20] And we cooked that up, we ate on it for a few days and then we had decided you know there's still meat, there's still left stuff left, why don't we make a broth out of it, break it down into a soup.

[00:25:33] You know we were going to take the rest boil it down, pull the meat off, make it into a chicken pot pie or soup base, and then put it up.

[00:25:42] Unfortunately, we didn't get to, only because again we had some other circumstances that you know to play derail everything.

[00:25:51] But that's okay, so at least now though we have things set up in our kitchen to where if we do end up doing that again we can actually implement it immediately versus letting anything go to waste because for us that was a bit of a heartbreak

[00:26:06] that during that time it ended up going to waste. So that's a big one is when you decide you're going to do something if it's put up the leftovers, if it is, I'm going to break this down so I can do this.

[00:26:20] You do it immediately and I understand is oh I can't do the whole cooking process right now no but go ahead and take the steps to prep it out.

[00:26:28] So then you make sure you do it within a specific timeline and you get it done.

[00:26:35] A lot of people you know I'm tired and I want to get up do it because I promise you that little bit of extra work that you're putting out makes all the change in the world.

[00:26:47] Oh shoot you just made 24 courts of chicken stock oh and 12 courts of chili that's what I'm talking about.

[00:26:54] So we have to get my pressure canner back out. I do have to drive back up to Jacksonville North Carolina to my unit and get my cannon jars out because that is something when I make chili.

[00:27:07] When I make cabbage soup, I make them in large, large quantities because what that is something we can eat on.

[00:27:15] And for me, I eat soup like it's water, I mean I can't hope it, I will eat not one or two bowls of soup but more like 12.

[00:27:29] Oh yeah, so for me chili something we could definitely put up I know we've made spaghetti and excess and put it up. So I mean these are all things you can think about as far as cost.

[00:27:41] And that's why you know with taxis and you don't have to be overdone I get a lot of people's mindsets also kind of like me Grace said is you know Christmas you were buying for everybody else and you know doing this and doing that

[00:27:57] but I don't want to be able to do for yourself I'm not saying you can't do for yourself, but.

[00:28:03] Plan it out, but what you know, talk to your partner that's the worst thing is having a partner who goes on, this is our tax this is what I want to do no that's not fair that's not right.

[00:28:17] So, I do want to check something out real quick cause February is also.

[00:28:35] So I'm going to do you Ralph for a second while I'm trying to find this but everybody loves the holidays right birthdays.

[00:28:49] Christmas is all of that jazz.

[00:28:53] Well, if you are anything like me and I know some of you are, that me great you may be the same is when people ask you, what do you want for Christmas or what do you want for your birthday.

[00:29:04] You know what I always say gift cards.

[00:29:07] I kid you not I am one of those individuals where gift cards are amazing because it's not currency it I mean you can ask for currency but then people think you're being a bit presumptuous in my household that's something I asked my mom.

[00:29:22] What do you want I'm like a gift card currency, you know I'll give her a list of preps I like but a lot of people are very, you know, stand to office with that so around the holidays, I typically do ask for a gift card, whether it be Amazon.

[00:29:40] I usually ask for visa only because then I can spend it where I want, I can use it if I have to for other other emergencies but it's nice to be able to have that without breaking the bank so I always suggest looking into, you know, if you're going to look into spending money.

[00:30:03] You know, looking to give cards. I know that sounds odd, but it, believe it or not, then you're not.

[00:30:12] The way I saw it is you can give towards someone without breaking the bank and then worrying that it wasn't what they wanted and then them thrown it away, right.

[00:30:25] Okay, so I did want to mention February is also a special month because our intrepid commander has a birthday coming up.

[00:30:37] That's right folks.

[00:30:40] See I'm just going to check something real quick.

[00:30:49] What are you looking at me. Sorry, old man is just staring a hole through me.

[00:30:55] And I think from right the intrepid commanders, I won't say his age he's not very old.

[00:31:01] Let's see.

[00:31:02] Good morning garden girl.

[00:31:06] Happy birthday. See, and she just said hubby just threw me a surprise party last night and I got so many lows, give cards in Amazon can't wait to spend them exactly.

[00:31:19] And for us who are preppers and not excluding you dads, but a lot of us moms.

[00:31:25] Understand that, and this is how I was raised.

[00:31:28] We typically put our wants and needs on the back burner for the rest of our family. We don't.

[00:31:34] I know I was guilty of this.

[00:31:37] A lot of I knew my partner or my children really wanted something and we didn't have the cost and there was something in the cart that I needed or wanted.

[00:31:46] I put it back just so my family could have it.

[00:31:49] So for me, having a gift card is kind of my way to be able to buy for myself and not feel guilty. I don't have a guiltters. What is that word? Spenders guilt.

[00:32:01] Oh, so glad for you garden girl garden girl your birthday was just I'm so sorry I missed it. I'm so.

[00:32:08] I knew you said you had a birthday.

[00:32:11] I have a birthday this month to and I'm going to be 35 that is right. It was funny to think that we started listening to these podcasts. I started years ago when my son was to.

[00:32:28] Yeah, he was to.

[00:32:33] Yeah, and now I have a 14 year old. So that's crazy.

[00:32:40] I'm so happy for your girl that's wonderful.

[00:32:45] See, yes.

[00:32:49] But and then now I have a five month old so see this is this is what you got to think about when when you're doing.

[00:32:56] Your taxes when you're looking at holidays so you don't have to be.

[00:33:01] Excessive, but it's kind of like like garden girl. She's all excited about her gift cards because guess what now she can get what she wants without them like she's put out or getting something she didn't want you are sliding all over the place.

[00:33:19] You know, to be able to do for yourself and not have the guilt to be able to do for your family.

[00:33:25] That is something I saw, and maybe for people to consider

[00:33:30] every now and then, when you have a little bit of currency,

[00:33:33] put it up.

[00:33:33] If you know you're gonna have someone coming up

[00:33:35] with a birthday, maybe get a gift card, put it aside,

[00:33:38] and have those to be able to give for gifts.

[00:33:41] Currency's still good on the card.

[00:33:44] They don't typically expire.

[00:33:46] That's why I'm always telling people, you know,

[00:33:48] Visa cards and other cards usually do really great.

[00:33:51] - Why?

[00:33:54] - My dad is renowned for giving Amazon cards.

[00:33:58] He'll send, buy them for me, buy them for the kids,

[00:34:01] send us the cards, be a happy birthday,

[00:34:04] Merry Christmas or what have you.

[00:34:06] So it's one of those things where I know every year

[00:34:09] I'm gonna get a gift card.

[00:34:11] $25 to $50, which he doesn't have to do,

[00:34:16] but I'm very appreciative.

[00:34:18] - Yeah, yeah.

[00:34:20] - Just like with my mother, I know I can give her a list

[00:34:25] and then she'll ask, do you want currency or do you want this?

[00:34:28] I'm appreciative, I don't have to have it.

[00:34:30] I'm a grown woman who I always tell my family,

[00:34:34] I understand hard times, financial times.

[00:34:37] So it's not a bit dill.

[00:34:38] I think that's why for me, even though tax time

[00:34:42] can be stressful, I find it more joyous.

[00:34:49] - Yeah, he had you here, he think.

[00:34:51] His new skill is when daddy was sick,

[00:34:55] sorry, I'm being distracted.

[00:34:56] She now mocks his daddy's car.

[00:35:00] And he thought that was funny.

[00:35:02] And he now says, dad dad.

[00:35:04] I have a six month old now, so.

[00:35:06] All right.

[00:35:09] See, and as a garden girl says,

[00:35:14] and my mom got me one for the run and store.

[00:35:16] I shot that, so now I have new run and shoes

[00:35:18] on the way, see exactly.

[00:35:20] Because what we typically, as parents, as spouses,

[00:35:25] we typically put ourselves on the back burner.

[00:35:29] I'm right there with you, garden girl.

[00:35:31] I'm probably needing a good pair of shoes.

[00:35:34] And yeah, I'm gonna look for the best thing for my buck,

[00:35:39] which means we typically kind of put ourselves

[00:35:44] a little bit to the wayside and it happens.

[00:35:47] So this is again, a great way for us

[00:35:52] to think about each other, to think about ourselves,

[00:35:54] is do a gift card.

[00:35:56] If you are bad with currency,

[00:36:01] then I would suggest if you're trying to save up some money

[00:36:05] for something you really want.

[00:36:07] You know, I do what I call kind of like the forget me box

[00:36:12] is where you put a little cash up

[00:36:16] and you don't touch it.

[00:36:17] Forget it's there, put it in a lock box,

[00:36:18] put it in a cigar box, make sure that's put up.

[00:36:21] Every time you get a few bucks, put it in there

[00:36:23] and it will accumulate, it will add up the forget me box.

[00:36:28] You forget it's there, but then when you find it,

[00:36:30] it's at the right time.

[00:36:31] And do that every so often.

[00:36:35] There are ways to financially get ahead

[00:36:38] without breaking yourself, plan out your meals.

[00:36:44] Be conscious, conscious of country inches.

[00:36:48] Oh Lord have mercy.

[00:36:49] Be conscious of your spending,

[00:36:51] of things that aren't necessary.

[00:36:54] Be aware of things that your family is gonna need.

[00:36:59] You know, there's nothing wrong with hitting a cell.

[00:37:03] Don't buy it just because it's on sale.

[00:37:05] But buy it, you know, if it's on sale

[00:37:07] and it's something you know your family can use

[00:37:10] or will use or does need, then yes.

[00:37:12] You know, be smart about how you handle things.

[00:37:17] Look into growing your own food.

[00:37:20] Look into starting a garden.

[00:37:23] And if you can't start a garden,

[00:37:25] look at growing a couple of pots of plants in your window.

[00:37:28] You know, our one plant that's been going on

[00:37:32] for two years now here has been my rosemary.

[00:37:35] Ah, you are scooting off.

[00:37:40] You know, I use my rosemary when I'm seasoning.

[00:37:43] I've got Egyptian walking onions

[00:37:46] that have been doing amazingly, thanks to Melinda Lee.

[00:37:50] She sent me the original ones.

[00:37:51] I've actually been able to pass that along

[00:37:54] with the new ones that come off.

[00:37:56] I'll clip them as soon as they start to go to plot

[00:38:00] towards the soil, I'll cut off the little growth

[00:38:02] and I'll let those, 'cause I let them dry out, clip them.

[00:38:05] And then I give them to a friend who has grown hers.

[00:38:09] Oh, so you know, that's something I can share with someone,

[00:38:12] something I can pass along

[00:38:14] that in itself really didn't cost anything,

[00:38:18] but a little time.

[00:38:19] Your time can be worth so much.

[00:38:24] You know, pick up a new hobby that you can do

[00:38:29] with your family, go for walks.

[00:38:31] You know, take your health into consideration

[00:38:34] with everything that you do.

[00:38:37] Look at, you know, you don't have to break the bank

[00:38:42] to enjoy things, to want to start things.

[00:38:45] I crochet, I love to crochet, I spin, I sew.

[00:38:50] I've loved all of these hobbies or crafts

[00:38:55] or whatever you want to call them.

[00:38:56] I've done them since I was a child.

[00:38:58] And those things have been what have gotten me

[00:39:01] through tough times.

[00:39:02] My crocheting has paid for itself.

[00:39:05] My, my sewing has helped with being able

[00:39:10] to pick up odd jobs over the years

[00:39:13] of doing clothing, author alterations

[00:39:16] and being able to make things for my family.

[00:39:18] See, these are all all things you can take into consideration

[00:39:22] is you've got talent, you've got skill.

[00:39:25] Make the time.

[00:39:26] That's another thing I hear is I don't have the time to do this.

[00:39:30] You know what?

[00:39:31] I tell people give yourself an hour every evening,

[00:39:36] just an hour.

[00:39:40] Why, I can't come up with an hour, 30 minutes then.

[00:39:43] I know there is a space between when you put the children down

[00:39:48] and I understand you are exhausted.

[00:39:51] Take an hour for yourself if it's just two,

[00:39:54] 30 minutes to an hour if it's just a sit and read

[00:39:58] if it is to watch a new tutorial or a YouTube video

[00:40:03] if it is to join us here at PBN during the week

[00:40:07] when we are on air.

[00:40:09] If it is to crochet or sew or get interactive,

[00:40:14] oh, you're wearing it, then do that.

[00:40:18] You know, do that.

[00:40:21] Be active in taking time for yourself.

[00:40:26] And believe it or not for me throughout all the years

[00:40:29] with three children working a full-time job,

[00:40:32] having a husband who worked full-time.

[00:40:35] You know, the demands of being family.

[00:40:38] I made sure every evening I got one hour to myself.

[00:40:41] Yes, did that cut into my sleep a little bit?

[00:40:43] Absolutely, but that one hour

[00:40:46] made the entire difference of what I was able to get done,

[00:40:52] what I was able to do for myself

[00:40:54] and what I was able to just have a moment to reset.

[00:40:57] Now, every night it wasn't the same.

[00:40:59] I didn't relax every night.

[00:41:00] I did take a night or two where I did have just an even,

[00:41:03] just a sit there, but I took that hour,

[00:41:06] whether it be to clean, to can, to sew, to crochet,

[00:41:11] something for me, something that I wanted to do

[00:41:14] that I didn't feel like I could get done during the day.

[00:41:18] Oh, thank you, garden girl.

[00:41:20] Yes, oh, you're wearing, I like how you're wearing that.

[00:41:24] Oh, okay, that's cool.

[00:41:26] I didn't even think about putting it on that way.

[00:41:28] Has it held up to the run-in?

[00:41:30] So for you, for those of you who don't know,

[00:41:34] as I have started, I made a new item

[00:41:39] that I was crocheting in to see how it would hold up,

[00:41:45] because a lot of the people in our group

[00:41:48] are big into fitness.

[00:41:51] They run, they jog, they work out.

[00:41:55] I mean, these people are the overachievers.

[00:41:57] Love y'all, don't mean that ugly in any way.

[00:42:00] So I'm gonna add these two in here.

[00:42:04] And it's a little like turtleneck with the hood

[00:42:09] that I'm working on.

[00:42:10] And I sent one out to our garden girl to try

[00:42:14] because she is very big into fitness,

[00:42:16] very much out in the weather and running.

[00:42:18] I'm working on what James calls the ninja version

[00:42:22] that is gonna go out to him here shortly

[00:42:24] once I get that finished up.

[00:42:26] And his is gonna be an all-black.

[00:42:28] I'm sure you will see it as much as you've seen him

[00:42:30] wearing the ferg, which I have to fix.

[00:42:35] I need to get him a new one.

[00:42:36] I need to just make him a new one.

[00:42:38] She says she hasn't ran with it yet,

[00:42:42] but it's great for walk and see.

[00:42:43] And this is what she is kind of my prototype tester

[00:42:47] for this one.

[00:42:49] Definitely give me opinions.

[00:42:50] If you are in the group chat,

[00:42:52] I've got another one just like the one she has made up already.

[00:42:58] And I'm working on trying to make a smaller size

[00:43:02] for the littles.

[00:43:04] But I need to know if there's anything

[00:43:08] I can improve or change on that.

[00:43:09] So don't hesitate to tell me you will not hurt my feelings.

[00:43:13] I'm all for constructive criticism.

[00:43:16] But yeah, this was to show out this is what I do.

[00:43:20] You don't have to break the bank with what you do.

[00:43:24] I had this yarn already.

[00:43:26] I'm using up what I have to be able to make these prototypes

[00:43:31] to make these testers for people,

[00:43:33] to use up to make items.

[00:43:35] Then I will want certain things for decided,

[00:43:38] "Oh, I love it this way."

[00:43:39] Then I will start spinning up my wool

[00:43:42] and making some higher quality.

[00:43:44] And that's the thing.

[00:43:45] We're trying to be effective without breaking the bank.

[00:43:50] 'Cause I sure really titled this money,

[00:43:53] all about the money.

[00:43:54] And it's just trying to save a buck.

[00:44:00] It's trying to get by and make ends meet.

[00:44:03] And that's what we all are doing.

[00:44:04] All right, so real quick,

[00:44:08] I am going to hire you a commercial.

[00:44:11] We'll finish up the next few minutes after.

[00:44:14] And then we'll, I'll let you enjoy your weekend.

[00:44:16] So hold on one moment and I will be right back.

[00:44:19] On the brink of blackouts again,

[00:44:21] as power demand reached an all-time record high overnight,

[00:44:25] slivers of the Golden State plunged into darkness.

[00:44:28] Some says it expects to continue

[00:44:29] with stage six running blackouts.

[00:44:31] Will the risk be scheduled outage on Thursday?

[00:44:34] Point 0 Energy has given me the American tested American assembled reliable solar backup that I've been looking for. [00:45:21] Hello. Welcome to the podcast. Present your vaccine passport.

[00:45:30] Enter your social credit schooler and be sure you have enough remaining carbon credits

[00:45:36] to enjoy today's show.

[00:45:40] How sad that how true that actually is. I don't know if y'all saw the article of why they're

[00:45:54] saying that home gardeners are making 10 times the carbon carbon fuels or I don't know how they

[00:46:01] posted it. It was ridiculous. If anything that should be your sign, it is time to garden. It is time to

[00:46:08] become as self-reliant and independent as possible. Yep. You heard that. It is time to make sure you

[00:46:18] do and take care of your family because we all already know no matter what you do or who you wait

[00:46:27] on. The government is not going to protect us. If anything, I feel like things are trying to

[00:46:34] push you to be more reliant upon the government and it has been that we for years.

[00:46:42] Oh, okay. She says, "I wrote it out to cover the back of my neck to keep warm." You know what?

[00:46:48] Garden Girl, I may have a thought then. So we will have to discuss that later.

[00:46:54] I like that though. See? And this is what I mean is we all are part of this network. We are our own

[00:47:02] family. Y'all are my family. And this is what this is about is communication,

[00:47:09] talking, sharing. Me Grey, Garden Girl, me Grey's been there since I started. So that says a lot.

[00:47:17] You poor fella. But this is what prepping is. We need to make sure during tax time,

[00:47:26] during not tax time, holidays, what have you. We take the time to slow down, okay? Look into what

[00:47:34] is vital for your family, for your needs, for what is going to be best for you. I get it.

[00:47:43] You know, you hear Christmas is the time of giving. No. Yes, it is. But you don't have to go out and

[00:47:52] spend thousands of dollars. You don't. I think with how things have been financially, I think

[00:48:01] I was able to reasonably say I could spend a hundred dollars per child. And my youngest is,

[00:48:08] you know, was just a few months old. So he didn't actually need a thing.

[00:48:13] So that wasn't a big deal. So that was fine because, you know, my three older got things. Yes,

[00:48:22] did I buy them things that was a little frivolous? Sure. But at least I know that for them,

[00:48:31] I got them eat something they could use and then something that was cute in my oldest. I gave

[00:48:38] them some currency because, you know, he's a 14 year old. He's getting at that age where, okay,

[00:48:43] you know, this kid has learned very early to save money. He's very frugal. So at least then

[00:48:49] this way, I knew he could get exactly what he wanted. And I wouldn't have to worry about getting

[00:48:55] him with something that was going to get tossed in a week that, you know, would for whatever

[00:48:59] reason wasn't what he wanted. Then he wouldn't tell me until months later. So it's just easier.

[00:49:04] So keep in mind, folks, you don't have to break yourself in food costs. Well,

[00:49:13] fortunately, yeah, you can make it easier. Okay. Yes, it just takes some effort on your end.

[00:49:19] You do have to plan it out a little bit. You do have to put in an effort. But that is okay

[00:49:26] because guess what? You need to be active in your own life. You need to be active in your own

[00:49:32] prepping because no one else is planning for you in mind. I mean, you sure you may have groups,

[00:49:40] but you're going to have to be able to pull your own weight. You need to be able to think for

[00:49:43] yourself because until SHDF or whatever you have planned out, you still have to maintain.

[00:49:49] You still have to thrive. You still have to go on with the every day to day thing. What are you

[00:49:58] doing? What are you doing? All right, for the group. Let's see. Let's see if I can get a picture of what

[00:50:05] this child is doing. Okay. So it's just one of those things where, you know, don't let

[00:50:19] the stress of tax time or everything else that's going on gets you. Be smart about how you plan,

[00:50:30] you know, be more proactive, you know, take, take care of your family. Do what you need to do

[00:50:38] to make sure your family's ends are met, to make sure that you are

[00:50:45] planning for your family's needs.

[00:50:54] I mean, this doing something like that can make a difference in the entire world of getting by.

[00:51:03] All right, if you're the family who's getting money back, buy your groceries, pay your bills,

[00:51:10] but also put some aside. You should be putting some aside anyways where you can.

[00:51:15] We're all guilty of not putting away, putting aside like we should. But you know what,

[00:51:20] you know, try, start, even if it's just a few small bills. Anything is better than nothing.

[00:51:28] So for those of you in the chat, you do get to see my little monster who has been today my little.

[00:51:36] I dropped it co-host. Yeah.

[00:51:42] So that being said, you know, this, this is why I prep. This is one of my four reasons that I

[00:51:51] prep. And then I want to make sure that no matter what, hell or high water, that I can provide for

[00:52:00] my family. You know, think about what your goals are. Look at what your motivation is.

[00:52:09] Take care of your family. Take care of yourself. Yeah, exactly. You hear that? That's what he said.

[00:52:18] Make sure you are doing what you need to. I would love to hear back next Saturday. Did you,

[00:52:28] did you sit down and look at the cost? Did you write out your meals for a month? Did it help?

[00:52:33] You know, look into that. I would love to see, you know, where people are with that. What you

[00:52:40] do when you're in, but else wise, I am going to be coming up on an hour. I am going to

[00:52:48] end it a little shorter than I normally would. But again, I think I've ranted enough to you.

[00:52:55] I think I've beat this dead horse long enough that you you get it. So, P.B.N. I want you to

[00:53:04] have an amazing weekend. Go out. Enjoy the outdoors. Enjoy being with your family. Pick up a new hobby.

[00:53:13] Post it. We, I started the project room so I could see what we do so we could share what we do. So,

[00:53:19] if you are can and meet leftovers from your meal, share that in there. I would love to see

[00:53:25] what you did with your excess food. I would love to see what craft you're doing. I may even

[00:53:33] start a room for family, you can put it in their family projects, you know? What, what did you do

[00:53:39] with your kids today? Or what are you doing with them next week? Or, you know, your spouse? What

[00:53:44] did you all get up to? Did you, did you start a new raised bed? Did you attempt to plant some seeds

[00:53:51] and show in the progress? Be interactive here. This is what our group is here for. We can give

[00:53:57] ideas. We can share. We can feed off each other's energy and maybe that will be the motivation for

[00:54:02] somebody else. I would love to see your growth and your, your projects, your proper projects here

[00:54:10] in our chat that we've started. If you for some reason are not in that chat room,

[00:54:15] it would not let me add everybody for whatever reason. I do have to get James to help me. If you

[00:54:23] are not in that chat room and you want to be in that chat room, shoot me a message via elements

[00:54:29] or however, and I will do what I can to get you in there. And then that way you can share what

[00:54:36] you're doing. All right, folks, I do appreciate it. I hope you have a great weekend. Take care

[00:54:42] and until next time, I will, I will see you around.

[00:54:48] and it's left left left right left so put your hands up put your hands up if crawling for the

[00:54:58] scraps won't never be enough put your hands up put your hands up the money's on the wall

[00:55:05] this ain't ever gonna stop with your hands up with crawling for the scraps won't ever be enough

[00:55:13] put your hands up with your hands up we'll fight until we die this ain't ever gonna stop
