TGA-2024 When to Retreat and Regroup

[00:00:00] Welcome to the Gunmetal Armory. Here's your host, Dane D.

[00:00:07] Hey, what's up everybody? This is Dane from Gunmetal Armory. I am actually on the road

[00:00:15] right now so I am going to kind of try to tread carefully here while I'm driving around.

[00:00:25] So what I wanted to talk to you guys about real quick is basically when to retreat, right?

[00:00:35] When to retreat, when to pull back, when to kind of, what's the right word I'm looking

[00:00:44] for, you know, retreat and regroup, right? So I had a friend of mine send me an email

[00:00:53] and he wanted to know what I would do as far as holding back a mob, a mob of crazy people,

[00:01:03] right? Let's say they're zombies or some silly crap like that, okay? He wanted to

[00:01:09] know what I would do in a case like that. So we discussed less than lethal ammo, right?

[00:01:17] LTL, right? Less than lethal, okay? We discussed less than lethal ammo. We discussed a couple

[00:01:24] of other different types of options, you know, Bolo rounds, things like that, you

[00:01:28] know. There's a couple of really interesting products on the market right now. There's

[00:01:31] like net rounds and things like that, okay? But those rounds, less than lethal,

[00:01:38] Bolo's, things like that, those aren't really going to help a crowd, okay?

[00:01:43] If you pay attention to crowd control, generally it involves like tear gas and fire hoses

[00:01:50] and all kinds of stuff like that, right? So what would work for a civilian? What

[00:01:59] would actually get the job done and keep your family safe, you know, if you had

[00:02:06] a whole bunch of really, really angry people that, I don't know, some of you

[00:02:09] guys out there listening, I'm sure are preppers and you probably have a little

[00:02:12] bit of food. What if everybody close by you finds out that you have food and

[00:02:16] nobody else does, right? So I gave that some thought and I came to a decision.

[00:02:28] My thinking is less than lethal rounds aren't really gonna help you, okay?

[00:02:35] Let's say you have a shotgun and you want to start sending some rubberbuck

[00:02:39] shot out or whatever, right? You may hit a few people and you may hurt them or

[00:02:44] whatever but that's not going to be enough to actually stop a whole bunch

[00:02:51] of people coming at your property at the same time, okay? You know, the old

[00:02:56] golden horde kind of scenario. If you don't know what that is, look it up.

[00:03:03] That's not gonna be enough. Less than lethal rounds, rubberbuck shot, bean bag

[00:03:07] rounds, pepper ball rounds, things like that. Honestly it's really not going to

[00:03:14] be enough. The things that you would truly need if the of all these people

[00:03:22] were intent on slaughtering you, you would need something different that the

[00:03:27] average civilian, you know, doesn't really have the access to at the

[00:03:30] moment and I'm sure there's some of them that do but anyways. They're

[00:03:36] made by General Electric and Dillon Arrow but you know we'll save that for

[00:03:41] another day. Anyways, so again less than lethal, not gonna do it, okay? Now I

[00:03:49] told my friend in an email I said if your buddy is talking about holding

[00:03:54] back a mob from overtaking his place that requires a specific plan, okay? More

[00:04:03] you need a lot of stuff to stop a mob, okay? But you can begin to stop it with

[00:04:10] a multi-tier defensive plan for your property, right? Concentric rings of

[00:04:17] defense, okay? Keep in mind the word defense, okay? There is gonna come a

[00:04:24] time where you will probably need to use offense but at the moment

[00:04:30] defense, okay? What the heck? That's not a Mustang. That can't be a Mustang. Oh my

[00:04:40] gosh, Mustangs look stupid now. Sorry I just saw like a 2024 Mustang. That is

[00:04:46] the lamest looking crap. Okay, anyway sorry guys, squirrel. Anyway, so

[00:04:52] specific plan, concentric rings of defense, okay? We're talking you know

[00:04:59] keep in mind this is shtf world, okay? This is not a you know current world.

[00:05:06] We're talking without rule of law, we're talking end of days, we're

[00:05:09] talking you know that kind of stuff, okay? Not where there's you know

[00:05:14] police and sheriffs and all that stuff, okay? This is end-of-the-world

[00:05:17] type stuff, all right? To defend your property you're going to need you know

[00:05:25] traps, you're gonna need trenches, you're gonna need spikes, you're gonna

[00:05:30] need caltrops, you're gonna need all kinds of different stuff, okay? It's not

[00:05:38] going to be as simple as just oh I'll just hold back a mob of people,

[00:05:42] okay? But if those things don't work you need to have a plan in place for how

[00:05:49] you're going to respond after the defensive measures have been overrun

[00:05:53] because people knowing people eventually your defensive measures will be

[00:05:59] overrun, okay? So what do we do in the case that our defensive measures

[00:06:06] are overrun? When do we retreat and regroup? I'm glad you asked. One of the

[00:06:14] ways that I put this together is respond, reassess, and repeat, okay?

[00:06:23] Respond, okay? Respond to threats, 30 round mags, big calibers, set up

[00:06:29] perimeter defense, so on and so forth, okay? And I don't mean perimeter

[00:06:33] defense as in the one that I was talking about with concentric greens, I'm

[00:06:36] talking about perimeter defense people on guard duty ready to respond,

[00:06:42] respond, reassess, and repeat, okay? That's what I mean by perimeter defense

[00:06:47] in that case that is active perimeter defense not passive perimeter defense,

[00:06:51] okay? Big difference between active and passive, right? Passive perimeter

[00:06:56] defense is like caltrops just sitting there doing nothing, okay? They're not

[00:07:00] hurting nothing, they're just sitting there you know ready to someone's tire

[00:07:03] to roll over them pop their tire, okay? Active is put you know guard

[00:07:08] patrols and people in towers and people in windows and so on and so

[00:07:13] forth, okay? Alright, respond, reassess, repeat, okay? Respond to the threats,

[00:07:19] mags, calibers, perimeter defense, etc. Reassess, look at the leftover threats

[00:07:26] after the initial attack or defense, okay? Assess your defenses where they're

[00:07:32] left after the initial wave, check your supplies, check for wounded your

[00:07:38] own people, check for wounded and then you're going to want to do sills,

[00:07:44] okay? If you don't know what sills is it's stop, look, listen, smell,

[00:07:48] S-L-L-S, stop, look, listen, smell. You're going to want to check it

[00:07:54] out, be quiet, look around, listen, pay attention after that initial wave,

[00:08:03] after the quote unquote after the smoke clears. You're going to want to

[00:08:08] take a second and think, alright? Alright, after you reassess, after

[00:08:14] you've done all those things you're going to want to repeat that, okay?

[00:08:18] Again if another wave comes you're going to respond and then reassess,

[00:08:23] okay? Remember, respond means responding to the threats, using the weapons on

[00:08:29] hand, setting up your perimeter defense even better if you can and then

[00:08:35] reassess. You're going to want to rebuild your defenses, get different

[00:08:39] guys in different places if you can, move people around, long-range,

[00:08:42] short-range, so on and so forth, okay? Alright, then if needed because it

[00:08:50] could potentially happen that you just don't have enough people, there are

[00:08:55] just too many of these bad guys or zombies or whatever they are, okay?

[00:09:01] SHTF you don't know, alright? So if needed, if needed

[00:09:11] you're going to retreat. I know Alamo, Last Stand, blah blah blah doesn't have

[00:09:19] to be that way, okay? Here's how this goes down. Hear me out. Retreat, regroup,

[00:09:28] resupply, okay? Retreat, regroup, resupply. Then you're going to reassess,

[00:09:36] retake and rebuild. Did you hear me? Reassess, retake and rebuild. There's a

[00:09:45] lot of re's going on here. Alright, so let's break this down. Retreat, you're

[00:09:51] going to fall back to a fortified or unfortified location or locations,

[00:09:55] preferably close to where you just were, preferably a place that you've

[00:10:00] fortified ahead of time, okay? If you don't know fortified means, look it up!

[00:10:06] It means ready to use, to fight back, not technically but just look it up.

[00:10:12] You'll see what I mean. Okay, retreat, regroup, resupply. Next one is regroup.

[00:10:20] You're going to regroup with your team. You're going to do a head count. You're

[00:10:25] going to do a supply check and supply count. Check your mags, top them off,

[00:10:29] make sure everybody's good. Check for wounded, reassess the wounded, see who

[00:10:37] can continue. Okay, now the next one, resupply, the place you have fallen back

[00:10:44] to. Okay, when I said supply check and count, I didn't mean to get stuff out of

[00:10:52] your fallback point. I meant to check the stuff you have on you. Do you have

[00:10:57] more mags in your backpack? Your bug-out bag, right? Do you have more

[00:11:01] ammo? Can you top those off? Then do so. Then you get to the resupply. That is

[00:11:10] probably going to be your fortified location or maybe a little bit further

[00:11:12] from there, or maybe you've got multiple caches around that other

[00:11:17] fortified location that is close to your alamo that you can fall back to.

[00:11:23] You're going to resupply. You're going to open up your cachees. You're going

[00:11:28] to re-up your kit and your team's kit. You're going to rest, and you're going

[00:11:32] to eat. Okay? I don't know how much time you're going to have. Maybe you won't

[00:11:36] have any. Maybe you'll have a little bit, but if you do, this would be good

[00:11:41] to do. Okay? All right, next thing, reassess, retake, and rebuild. That's the

[00:11:50] next three steps. You're going to retake your alamo. You're going to

[00:11:57] retake your land, your property, your castle. It is time to retake it. So what

[00:12:04] are you going to do to retake it? You're going to observe. You're going

[00:12:09] to find... Oh wait, my bad. Sorry, I skipped one. You're going to reassess

[00:12:15] first. All right? You're going to gather intel. You're going to observe. You're

[00:12:21] going to plan with who and what you have left. This has to be... It has to

[00:12:26] be a short turnover time. Okay? This cannot take long. When you stop to rest

[00:12:31] and eat in the resupply phase, you don't have long. You don't want those a-holes

[00:12:37] getting too comfortable in your property or the zombies. Whatever. Okay? So next,

[00:12:44] after you've resupplied, after you've reassessed, after you've gathered the

[00:12:49] intel on the bad guys that are there, you've observed them, you've planned

[00:12:53] what you're going to do, how you're going to do it. Then... Got a little ahead of

[00:12:59] myself. Then you're going to retake your castle. Then you're going to

[00:13:04] retake that alamo. All right? That is when you're going to find, fix, and

[00:13:11] finish the bad guys. Find, fix, and finish. What does that mean? You're

[00:13:19] going to find where they are. You're going to fix them in place, trap them, and

[00:13:22] you're going to finish the job. Okay? You're going to find where each enemy is

[00:13:30] at your home. You're going to fix them in place with your team. Suppressing

[00:13:35] fire, whatever. And you're going to finish the job. Then you're going to

[00:13:40] reacquire your compound or your home carefully. You're going to assume that

[00:13:47] there are still enemy combatants in the area, whether they are around your place

[00:13:54] or they're still in your place. Whoopsie. Okay? Assume that you're not

[00:14:02] alone until you know you are. Also assume that things are booby-trapped.

[00:14:08] People are sneaky. Don't forget that. Okay? And then finally, ladies and

[00:14:16] gentlemen, the last thing you're going to do is one of my personal favorite

[00:14:21] phases, rebuild. You're going to rebuild. I have a feeling we're going to be

[00:14:27] needing to do that in this country pretty soon. Rebuild. You're going to

[00:14:33] fix the crap that these a-holes broke. You're going to basically re-up your

[00:14:37] caches that are everywhere, if you're smart. You're going to build new

[00:14:45] positions, ideally new places that you can protect. Guard towers, whatever.

[00:14:52] You're going to rebuild. You're going to rebuild fallback points, all that

[00:14:59] stuff. Okay? You're going to prepare to fight back again because it probably

[00:15:08] will have to happen again, sadly, but also honestly, because life would suck

[00:15:16] in that world. Right? So you need to be prepared for this stuff, guys. This

[00:15:23] is basically the plan that I gave to my friend when he asked, what do you do? So

[00:15:32] remember, guys, our plan is as follows. Respond, reassess, repeat. Then, if

[00:15:41] necessary, retreat, regroup, resupply. Then reassess, retake, and rebuild.

[00:15:54] All right? It's really not that hard. It's a nine-step process. And I'm sure

[00:16:00] some guys out there could probably narrow it down to even less than that.

[00:16:04] You know, never retreat. Just die on your feet. Woohoo! No thanks. I'm good,

[00:16:10] dude. I'll fall back and come back and get you while you're sleeping. Not

[00:16:14] a problem with me, dude. I got you covered, right? You know, I don't know

[00:16:20] why people have such a problem retreating, especially if they're prepared

[00:16:23] to retreat. Just saying. Anyways, so I hope this was helpful for you guys.

[00:16:30] I know I've been on less and less, and I know I haven't been around as

[00:16:35] much lately. We're really, really concentrating hard on our food and our

[00:16:45] projects, things like that, where we're trying to get going and be as

[00:16:49] self-sufficient as we can be as far as food and water and everything like

[00:16:52] that goes. We've been working on a lot of projects lately, especially with it

[00:16:56] being gardening time. And it looks like I'm going to be recording a whole

[00:17:01] bunch of lines this weekend for Miss Sarah, right? So if you listen to the

[00:17:07] changing earth audio drama, you'll know why. If you haven't, check it out.

[00:17:13] It's actually really, really cool, guys. I normally don't go for stuff like that,

[00:17:17] but I started listening to it and I got to admit, I got into it, you know?

[00:17:21] So it's pretty cool, guys. Check it out.

[00:17:23] Anyways. All right. Oh, one more reason why I think it's pretty cool.

[00:17:28] And just kind of popped into my head. I noticed myself when I was

[00:17:32] listening to the audio drama, I was imagining the characters they would

[00:17:36] look like. I was imagining what they would do, you know?

[00:17:39] And that's one of the cool things about books is you can kind of imagine

[00:17:42] the character how you want it. And audio dramas, you can kind of imagine

[00:17:45] the characters how you would see them, you know?

[00:17:48] So I don't know. I just think there's something really neat about that.

[00:17:51] And especially if you're getting older, it actually helps you kind of jog

[00:17:55] your brain and keep your mind sharp. So anyways, just my personal opinion.

[00:18:00] All right, guys, I hope each and every one of you are doing well out there.

[00:18:04] I will potentially be recording some more this weekend, but I will be

[00:18:09] doing a lot of lines, too. If you enjoyed this

[00:18:14] short podcast, which I hope you did, if you enjoyed the short podcast

[00:18:20] and you have some opinions on this stuff, hit me up.

[00:18:23] Let me know what you think. Did I get something wrong?

[00:18:25] Did I get it right? Do you think there's something I missed?

[00:18:29] Hit me up. Let me know.

[00:18:30] Gunmetalarmory at gmail.com. Let me know.

[00:18:33] Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm completely out of my depth

[00:18:36] and I have no idea what I'm talking about.

[00:18:38] Let me know. All right.

[00:18:39] All right, guys, you all take care out there.

[00:18:41] We'll see you next time as we go deeper inside the Gunmetal Armory.

[00:18:46] Good night, everybody.
