In This Week IN Prepping i handle The massive Nova Scotia Snow Storm, Russia Gps Jamming, the claim that home gardening is bad for the environment, my thoughs on an Apocalypitic Classic Film and more. #survival #prepper #prepping #preppersoftiktok #shtf #shtfprepper #preppertalk #preppers #preppertok #preppertips #prepare #selfsufficient #selfreliance #doomsdaypreppers COOKBOOK OF THE COLLAPSE Recipes from Jim Tubbs at Sawhorse Stables Woodcraft. Sausage Gravy 1 lb ground breakfast sausage 4 cups whole milk (2% can be substituted without changing the amount) 1/3 cup all purpose flour Salt and pepper to taste Brown the sausage in a large skillet (I prefer to use a cast iron skillet) until cooked through (do not drain). Lower heat to low and sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage. Mix the flour into the sausage and heat on low until flour is cooked (about 5 to 10 minutes). Add half of the milk and increase heat to medium. Stir constantly until the gravy starts to thicken. Add the remainder of the milk and continue to stir until reaching your desired thickness. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve over biscuits or hash browns. https://goldsurvivalguide.co.nz/buying-a-home-safe-for-gold-silver-storage/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2nAZwkhfBU https://www.michigandaily.com/research/umich-study-finds-most-urban-farms-have-greater-carbon-footprints-than-conventional-agriculture/ https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7105284 https://www.newsweek.com/russia-poland-kaliningrad-gps-jammer-1861842 https://globalnews.ca/news/10276203/edmonton-just-junk-furniture-reuse-freecycle/ https://www.ign.com/articles/neil-druckmann-teases-concept-for-the-last-of-us-part-3-theres-probably-one-more-chapter-to-this-story https://store.steampowered.com/app/2198510/New_Cycle/ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0884328/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 https://www.reddit.com/r/preppers/comments/1ak4v41/why_do_you_guys_have_kids/?share_id=IttDX15H6ba33V6XkmqbW&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1 https://www.unilad.com/news/money/man-buys-24k-house-amazon-tiktok-079133-20240203 https://www.youtube.com/@SilverDragons47 CONNECT WITH ME http://www.patchofthemonth.co/ PATCH OF THE MONTH CLUB http://toolmantim.co/ WEBSITE http://toolmantim.shop/ AMAZON AFFILIATE https://c3c5a9.myshopify.com/ MERCH http://www.youtube.com/c/toolmantimsworkshop/ YT https://rumble.com/c/ToolmanTimsWorkshop RUMBLE https://odysee.com/@Allseasonsmain:5 ODYSEE https://mewe.com/i/toolmantimsworkshop - MeWe http://www.facebook.com/toolmantimsworkshop/ - FB http://www.instagram.com/toolmantimsworkshop – IG https://twitter.com/toolmantimworks TWITTER http://t.me/toolmantimsworkshop TELEGRAM http://www.tiktok.com/@toolmantimsworkshop TIKTOK https://www.twitch.tv/toolmantimsworkshop TWITCH https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/toolmantim SPOTIFY https://freesteading.com/members/toolmantim/ FREESTEADING npub1738csh60emd5yl97sr092z0vqhde2fqgz3tdumcuvns2qker296q4dpx5q NOSTR http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com EXPERT COUNCIL https://www.empshield.com/link/cmz0bp0/ Save $50 on EMP Shield Mailing Address If you have anything interesting tool related you’d like to send my way, for review or just because, use the address below. [00:00:08] [SPEAKER_03]: This is the Prepper Broadcasting Network.

[00:00:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the New York Radio Show.

[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_01]: coming at you from the frozen tundra that is east central elberta canada streaming live

[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_01]: on youtube facebook twitter twitch rumble and odyssey welcome back to the workshop where

[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_01]: we create community find freedom promote preparedness and share success i am tool man tim

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_01]: today is february the eighth twenty twenty four this is episode four hundred and twenty three

[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_01]: of workshop radio how are all of my fellow delinquents out there down under and down over good to see

[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_01]: all of you we're going to open up with a rule to live by we put it into the old spinning machine

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_01]: to see which random one would come out this week and we've got rule number nine and that is

[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: problems always seem the worst the first time you handle them this has been something i've tried

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_01]: to share with my girls over the years it's something that becky and i learned way too

[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_01]: difficultly back when we were first married and it was simple when you're young or when

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: you're learning something new problems always seem the most overwhelming now that doesn't mean

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: by knowing that it's going to make it easier but what it does is hopefully it sits in the back

[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_01]: of your brain and you think okay this is the first time i've ever dealt with something like this use

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: home maintenance for instance how about the very first time you've ever had to unplug a stop toilet

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: that would really be bad yes i absolutely know it would be but it is what it is now if you

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_01]: approach that and you think okay this is a really shitty situation i've never dealt with it before

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: where do i go with it well you end up just dealing with it the problem is is that the newness of it

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_01]: brings on this incredible anxiety and if you can embrace that and i find as you get older when you

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_01]: know about that anxiety it's still going to hurt but it's not quite as bad you can tell yourself

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_01]: hey i've been here before so for my kids you know the first time that they get

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_01]: say a behind they're behind on their bills say they're behind on their phone bill

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and they get something in the mail well that might feel like the end of the world to them at that exact

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_01]: moment because it does you're scared to death you're like i don't know how to fix it and guess what

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: the cool thing about life is eventually you figure out as you go along number one how not to create

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_01]: those problems but when those problems come up you're still going to be the person who can

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_01]: figure it out so problems always seem the worst the first time you have to deal with them

[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_01]: but the sooner you know that the sooner you implant that into the back of the old brain stem

[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_01]: the better off you're going to be figuring out how to solve problems in the future

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_01]: all right so i hope everybody's been good we've got a good crowd in here already this evening

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_01]: we got a great show great lineup for you we got uh this week in prepping once again

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_01]: we got a ton of good stuff we're gonna jump in with the precious metals report

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: i haven't come up with a better name if anybody out there can come up with

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_01]: actually let's do this whoever can come up with the most ingenious name for the precious metal

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: segment each week i will send you a pre-1964 canadian dime in the mail so you'll get some

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_01]: silver out of it it's you know it'd be something fun so whoever can come up with it you can

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_01]: send it to me anywhere you want in the comments whatever but i would love for it to uh you

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: know fill in with fit in with some of the other names sorry so let's bring up our give me one

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_01]: moment here folks and we will share okay so very first one this it seems like each week i do

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: something about precious metals whatever i touch on ends up getting inspired for the next week

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_01]: so last week we talked about precious metals how will they survive in a fire and that spurred

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_01]: me on to think well how do we choose a proper safe for home precious metal storage so i did some

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_01]: digging and i found this article by gold so gold survival guide and it's out of new zealand so it's

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_01]: uh very very close to our good friend ellen kerr from down under good to see in here again

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: tonight ellen and we got byron we got digger we got john palmer and quite a few others in here

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_01]: so it's good to see you so buying a home safe for gold and silver storage i like this they

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: give you eight questions you can ask not all of them are pertinent to us as

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: preparedness minded folk but the first one is why can't i just use a small safe to store my gold

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and silver and um if you were to look down in the basement here there'd be a safe that isn't

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_01]: much bigger than that and uh i guess i get a little verbal slap here because i'm probably

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_01]: not following what i should but right here says a small safe will have thin walls made a low

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: grade steel and will offer very little protection from attack often referred to as a tin box here's

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_01]: the deal beyond that you ever see those crack heads that back into convenience stores in the middle

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_01]: of the night and they hook chain up to an atm and they pull it off and just drag it down the road

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_01]: well some rather ingenious crack heads wouldn't even need to do that to one of these safes

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: these are even if you had it full of silver never be in tim let's back up here a little bit

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_01]: the ingenuity of crack heads will blow you out of the water and i'm going to bet that most of them

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_01]: are going to just pick one of those up and run right out with it they're not even going to bother

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_01]: trying to cut it open you could with a little chisel or um you know a $35 harbour freight

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_01]: cordless grinder any of that would work but honestly one of these tiny ones you're just

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_01]: gonna somebody's just going to pick it up and run out the door all right so what do we need

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_01]: well we need a big heavy safe we know that or in theory especially if you're getting into any

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_01]: amount of precious metals all right how about number three right here how can i discreetly

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: install my safe while installing a safe into an existing wall may not be possible there's

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: very other methods various other methods of keeping it safe now if you go back further they talk about

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_01]: how you know those hidden safes in the wall aren't real safe again man we're going to use

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_01]: the word safe a lot because they're just too tiny knock them out run away with them this one

[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_01]: here is pretty good disguise you're safe perhaps some furniture will go over it or cover it with a blanket

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_01]: that reminds me of an old seinfeld intro many years ago he used to talk about the safety and

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_01]: security of covering something with a jacket he was talking about a uh he called a big screen

[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_01]: television it's probably 27 inch at the time and he parked of course in downtown new york

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and he's like i just threw a jacket over the tv nobody could see it so i'm just saying you

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_01]: know a great big safe cover it with a blanket i don't think it's honestly that great of an idea

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_01]: oh to say i don't mind don't advertise that you have a safe i like that better again we'll go back to

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_01]: one of those things that i learned from steven harris many years ago security by obscurity

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_01]: one of those things if you want to keep things the best way to keep things secure

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: is the ne'er to well is not knowing about them whatsoever i like that that's even better

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_01]: now this is a really good tip i highlighted this i wanted to share it with you and if you guys have

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01]: heard it or done something throw in the comments i'd love to see it underneath the stairwell can be a

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_01]: great place take the door and the surrounding trim off install the safe and replace the surrounding

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_01]: trim and the door this will take some serious time to remove as well as being difficult to locate

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_01]: again when we go back to our favorite crack heads anytime you make things more difficult for

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_01]: they're more likely to go somewhere else again if you've got a big generator in the backyard and

[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: you use big ass chain well they're way less likely to run off with them right they're just gonna

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: they're gonna take the path of least resistance the law of physics and the law of methods

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: they're about the same right but i like that tear off all the trim or even better yet how about

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: you build a wall around the safe i like that a lot too how about this we talked about this

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: last week number four do i need to attack do i need an attack resistant or fire rating to protect my

[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_01]: golden silver well just like everywhere this is a good rule of thumb and we're probably going to repeat

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_01]: it a bunch over time but for storage of golden silver consider attack resistance first and

[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_01]: fire rating second secondary but it's a bonus if you can get it so don't worry so much about fire

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_01]: worry more about the ne'er to wells right there you go we're gonna talk a little bit more

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: about this we got some comments from last week's episode we'll deal with down the road

[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_01]: that safe right there that little century safe i've got an old style dial one and uh yeah

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_01]: number six what is the cash rating on a safe i learned something new you folks are gonna learn

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_01]: something new some of you are anyway tonight didn't know this existed now again op sec

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_01]: operational security this may or may not be something you're worried about i kind of like

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_01]: the idea because i'm a big believer in having insurance for as many things as i can as long

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_01]: as it makes financial sense i'm okay with an insurance company knowing i have precious metals

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_01]: if it's going to cover my ass if something happens simple as that so what's a cash rating

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_01]: it's for insurance purposes it refers to the level of cover that a particular safe is rated for

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_01]: in terms of cash contents when buying a home safe for gold or silver genuinely this value

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: is the same as for cash to achieve this the insurer will require a certified safe for example a c en

[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_01]: standard or an as n z s standard the harder it is to break into the longer it takes the higher the

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_01]: rating so i don't know what all's involved in this process but i'm sure it involves it's involving

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: contacting your insurance company but also take a minute look at your safe rating and find out hey

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: if this is something i'm going to be worried about it might be worth talking to insurance just

[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_01]: have the conversation you can have a hypothetical conversation you can be like hey if i possibly

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: had three dollars worth of silver in a safe downstairs is it possible to ensure it simple

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: as that right there you go all right number eight can i just buy a secondhand safe online

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: to store some gold and silver this is an area that i kind of disagree with this article

[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_01]: i'm a big fan of buying secondhand stuff especially things like safes if they're still

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: kicking around and they've been around a long time they were probably built like a brickshithouse

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and the older ones tended to be heavier we had a floor model safe at home hardware

[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_01]: that basically took eight guys to get it out of the building when we finally swapped out for a

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: new one and the new one was piddly compared to it but here's what gold silver gold survival

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_01]: guide says with a secondhand safe you don't know its life and its history how has it been treated

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: has it ever been breached has it been serviced regularly or at all i get that totally uh now

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: have there also been instances they said there's been instances where people have bought a

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: secondhand safe online ended up not getting the combination and having to pay 1500 to get

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: a technician to access it well here's a story i got the safe that i have right now for free

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_01]: from a local organization it's like we lost the combination if you want it you can have it

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Becky she's really good at saying hey jump on that hun go get it so what'd i do i went and got it

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: i contacted the company it cost me somewhere in the 60 to 70 range ended up getting keys

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and the combination for it so i get a you know a three or four hundred dollars safe for a little

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: bit of time and a little bit of money so yeah i i like this i would love to hear people's

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: theoretical experiences with safes in the past to see what you guys think but this kind of segment

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_01]: just keeps building on to the next one by doing this uh this article today i was already inspired

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: to come up with something for next week so we'll deal with it but anyway let's take a look at

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: what the delinquents had to say in the community feedback here because everybody had some some

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_01]: good thoughts while we were going on and i want to show it out to cold war prepper he's been

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_01]: a former guest and a friend of the workshop he's in here this evening good to have you

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_01]: john palmer says the solution is to not have anything valuable ellen says i keep my precious

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_01]: metals in my gun safe good luck picking 200 kilograms up and getting it out the door

[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and for my fellow americans fellow america wait no anyway in freedom units that's 440 pounds

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_01]: john palmer says to build a room as a safe i like that a lot and we're going to show it

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: to ed silio good to see you and he said hey tim after uh he says i can say oh i'm not quite sure what

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: that i'm a miss oh sorry after a misspent youth i can say your property only needs to be more secure

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_01]: than your neighbors thank you ed i appreciate that and you're right just do more than you know

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_01]: my own fault the time i left my garage door open and again a crack head i know i love that word

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: ran off with my generator that's almost my fault i literally left the garage door open so there you

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_01]: go ellen kerr says um or if your house looks like a hell's angels clubhouse people would stay away

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_01]: from that too it's like the old story of you know if there's a single lady living in a house go

[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_01]: get the biggest baddest pair of work boots you can get get them all muddy and leave them just

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_01]: outside the door sometimes that deterrent is all you need so that wraps up precious metals for

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: this week let's move on to our friend of the workshop and our roving reporter that is all smiles all the

[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_01]: time that is willow sunshine prepper the first thing i want to tell you is she's gone from zero

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_01]: to 21 subscribers in three weeks she's doing awesome but what i really want is hello to give her some

[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: support and go over there and subscribe her video all the links of every article we talk

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_01]: about tonight is in the description so give her some love so tonight she's going to talk about

[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_01]: the horse manure protest now the farmer's getting pissed off over in europe so let's give her a listen

[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a great i would say this is her best submission yet and her first three were awesome so with that

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_00]: let's see what willow has to say oh and welcome to today's sunshine prepper news i'm willow the

[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_00]: sunshine prepper here to spread a bit of positivity on the unavoidable doom and gloom take a nice big

[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_00]: deep breath in sigh with me real quick before we hop into today into today's topic bonus points if you

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_00]: straighten your spine while you do it okay let's get into today's topic it's going to be farmer

[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_00]: protests ramping up and spreading in europe i remember when it was just the netherlands they

[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_00]: started protesting in 2019 and then their last major protest was in march right before their

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_00]: elections and their work has finally resulted in some political change perhaps this has helped

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_00]: inspire farmers in other countries to rise up against policy changes that cripple farmers in

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_00]: pursuit of arbitrary goals to fix climate change policies that arguably really uh are just going

[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_00]: to impoverish people and consolidate control of the food supply into the hands of our wannabe

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_00]: overlords so while the netherlands might be done protesting the torch has been passed to

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_00]: germany france idly and spain between them all i think i've got to give a round of applause to

[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_00]: the french farmers for their effective use of manure on government buildings and possibly also

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: politicians homes i think it's just public buildings though um they're also blocking roads

[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_00]: with piles of tires and piles of dirt and really making sure that the government knows how they

[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_00]: feel about this green agenda but don't count out the italians who seem to have started the

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_00]: new trend of blockading airports with tractors in germany the farmers have inspired other

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_00]: blue collar workers to unite with them to block major roads and in spain impressive numbers often

[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_00]: in the hundreds of tractors are blocking ports and roads and burning piles of tires but why

[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_00]: why are all these hardworking farmers spending their valuable time fuel and equipment

[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_00]: making a royal ruckus for their governments well as i've really mentioned it all comes down to

[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_00]: the green deal or slash green agenda in the e u where they have goals to reduce greenhouse

[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_00]: gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030 from the 1990 levels kind of wild and they want to become

[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_00]: climate neutral by 2050 which arguably is impossible but will not go there different countries in the

[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_00]: e u are approaching this in slightly different ways like focusing specifically on reducing carbon

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_00]: or making their fight deal with nitrogen and using germany as an example they botched their

[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_00]: budget around the pandemic stuff and are trying to fix said budget by dropping funding that supports

[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_00]: agriculture farmers are particularly frustrated about germany trying to remove agricultural

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_00]: use diesel subsidies the idea behind the subsidies that taxes on fuel are supposed to maintain roads

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_00]: but farmers are driving on their property not on the road so they get a tax break on their fuel

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_00]: but no so in general i mean i don't think government subsidies are great they often

[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_00]: incentivize monocropping and other not great results in food production but i don't think

[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_00]: it's a bad idea to support the people busting their buns doing actual hard work to grow food

[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_00]: so what can you and i do about any of this drum roll i say get your giggity garden going for 2024

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_00]: for those of us outside of the e u we can really only vigilantly watch our fellow average people

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_00]: in their struggle against tyranny however growing any amount of your own food is a

[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_00]: seditious act within your circle of influence while it may seem too early you'd be surprised how

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_00]: many seeds are happy to get started indoors in february if you have not had awesome success starting

[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_00]: seeds like me then now is the time to start planning out the space you have to buy plants

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_00]: together we can resist the overlords agenda with victory gardens i hope you enjoy today's

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_00]: segment wishing you and your family long life prosperity and success willow the sunshine prefer

[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_01]: well you guys i gotta say it's pretty interesting so i put a lot of this show this show kind of

[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_01]: comes together throughout the week and whenever i see an interesting article i kind of bookmark it

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and i add it to where i think we're gonna go this week and this is the second time now that

[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_01]: willow has come in with something that is kind of a lead into another topic that i want to

[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_01]: talk about and that is simply some of these arduous or draconian measures that governments are passing

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_01]: in the guise of climate change protection whatever you want to call it and i love that she took the

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_01]: time to share this because i'm always i'm i always crack up at the europeans i guess insatiable

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: lust for protesting and of course also their interesting methods that they love the fact that

[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_01]: they're you know spraying cow shit everywhere and oh man it's just it's hilarious now here's the thing

[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_01]: guys you know i seen an interview with jordan peterson the other day and he goes you know what

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_01]: you know the easiest way that i had people to stop protesting at my events i just started

[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_01]: holding them in the morning and the folks that we're gonna protest just didn't bother showing up

[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_01]: now this is kind of the opposite of that how bad have you had to screw up as a government

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_01]: to cause farmers to spend one penny more than they need to to come out and protest against you

[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_01]: how but i mean farmers are typically busy as all get out dealing with crops and animals and the

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_01]: whole works also i've never met a farmer in my life who isn't cheap who basically has to be held

[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_01]: to the fire to be to spend an extra penny can you imagine the fuel it takes to bring those massive

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: tractors to the city and to protest the way they are when you are pissing off the folks that make

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_01]: your food for you haven't helped you i mean shouldn't you have learned years ago that if

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_01]: you piss off a worker at mcdonald's there's a good chance they're gonna spit in your food

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and if you piss off a farmer and they decide to stop growing heaven help all of us anyway

[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_01]: let's move on to stranger than fiction folks and this is a good one we got um

[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah so first story i got for you this week leads right in from the one that willow just talked about

[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and this was 100 request from christix and last week i was talking about i i try to pick three

[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_01]: stories and i'm gonna try to be a little more solutions based as i do this i realized that

[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_01]: the first few weeks i just kind of talked about the story and didn't really delve into

[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_01]: how does it affect us as preppers and what can we do to make our lives better in spite of this

[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_01]: bullshit that goes on in the world right so here's the one this is the university of michigan's study

[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_01]: finds most urban farms have greater carbon footprints than conventional agriculture so we're

[00:21:36] [SPEAKER_01]: gonna dive into this a little bit i i have the study i may do a deeper dive into it later on but

[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_01]: i want to talk about this this is from the michigan daily and this was one that um i guess jack

[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_01]: spirco took a big dive into last week as well i haven't heard it yet but this is one of those

[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_01]: articles that when you read it the title jumps out at you and this is one of those that

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_01]: the news loves to push because it is well it's scary i don't know if that's the right word but

[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_01]: it's it's attention grabbing and it's one of those that really catches your eye when you start

[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_01]: reading but you're like that can't be right and let's dig in because this isn't nearly as cut

[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and dry as we might think and once again it's the idea of climate change action under the guys

[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_01]: of let's make the world better blah blah blah all right a recent study analyzed the carbon footprint

[00:22:31] [SPEAKER_01]: of urban agricultural sites in comparison to their more conventional agricultural counterparts now

[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_01]: here's the deal most folks they read the headline they share the article and they move on right here

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_01]: very first paragraph second sentence the study found that while 43 percent of urban farms

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_01]: have a smaller carbon footprint than conventional farms so right there half of all the farms or

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_01]: 43 percent you could basically call that half half of all urban farms have a smaller footprint to

[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_01]: carbon footprint than the big industrial ag okay right there that already takes a huge deflation

[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_01]: in the wind on the sales of this article so right there you've already eliminated half of it

[00:23:18] [SPEAKER_01]: okay keep going tim food from the remaining 57 percent of urban farms and gardens leaves a significant

[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_01]: significantly greater carbon footprint up to six times greater than conventional farms

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_01]: okay there has to be more to this story here we go the researchers studied this is only

[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_01]: paragraph two folks this isn't like bottom of the barrel you know how they love to leave things

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_01]: to the end environmental the researchers studied environmental impacts of three kinds of urban farms

[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_01]: high production urban farms volunteer led community gardens and individual gardens

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_01]: okay so they looked at those three cool there's some things missing there and if anybody else

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_01]: can catch what they're not talking about throw it in the comments but we're going to keep going

[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_01]: the primary contributor to environmental impact was here okay so first off 43 percent

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_01]: had a lower carbon footprint all right now here's the next kicker this is where those 57 percent come in

[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_01]: the primary contributor to environmental impact was infrastructure on the sites it was not the growing

[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_01]: of the vegetables it was the infrastructure and if anybody didn't catch that i'm going to say

[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_01]: at a third time infrastructure here it is the things that people build in order to enable

[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_01]: food growing so that could be raised that could be raised beds pathways or garden sheds so again

[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_01]: we are dealing with an urban setting and we're dealing with folks who want a pretty backyard

[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_01]: we're dealing with folks who would probably already have a gorgeous backyard to begin with

[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_01]: and so they are looking at all of these other inputs like hey i like that really nice polyshed

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_01]: that i bought from cosco so we're going to include that in the carbon footprint of how you

[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_01]: grow your vegetables are you seeing it here all right pathways so stones you got to have pathways

[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_01]: to walk to the garden well you're going to have a pathway in the backyard either way you're going

[00:25:17] [SPEAKER_01]: to have a garden shed either way raised beds six or one half a dozen of another we got some

[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_01]: solutions here but i want folks to realize that these scary headlines aren't always as true as they

[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_01]: like to lead them to be a couple of years ago when there was that big story about how

[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_01]: half of the grid was on the verge of collapse because of certain shutdowns and it was a scary

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_01]: looking report well it turned out they put that report out every single year and guess what

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_01]: it wasn't any different it just caught traction that year so the person who put the survey together

[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_01]: said they also said there are lesser but still still substantial negative environmental impacts

[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_01]: from certain supplies such as compost and water irrigation i'd have to dig into that more

[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_01]: but i'm not really sure how you take compost and water irrigation is negative environmental

[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_01]: effects but let's move on from that if you look for examples of food products that are

[00:26:14] [SPEAKER_01]: grown in relatively carbon intensive ways in conventional settings and you can actually

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_01]: grow these things in cities then your net carbon impact is less okay so what they're

[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_01]: saying look at things like tomatoes and asparagus which they talk about because those

[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_01]: are things that either need to be grown in greenhouses or need to be flown in because

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_01]: they're highly perishable according to the study the findings of this research ready here we go

[00:26:38] [SPEAKER_01]: we go to the member gotta go all the way to the bottom to find out that it's not nearly as scary

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_01]: as we think the findings of this research do not mean that the benefits of urban agricultural

[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_01]: should be downplay haas said urban farms can sometimes outperform conventional farms

[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and positively impact the community all right let's leave it at that positively impact the

[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_01]: community sure great that to me neither here nor there but i got a few thoughts on this the first one guys is

[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_01]: how in the world did carbon footprint become the benchmark by which all decisions need to be made

[00:27:14] [SPEAKER_01]: literally almost everything we talk about or we hear in the news now is

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_01]: how is the carbon footprint where's the carbon footprint it is the moral benchmark

[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: of all decisions but here's the thing it's also the moral benchmark that is the most

[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_01]: flexible about anybody you read comments on instagram facebook wherever it happens to be

[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_01]: again it's simply i'm going to judge other people based on their carbon footprint but

[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_01]: mine is personally justified it really really bothers me okay but here's the thing this

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_01]: entire study here's some things that i looked at that it doesn't take into account this doesn't

[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_01]: take into account how much healthier it is to grow your own food again remember that that's a

[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_01]: solution growing our own food is almost always healthier than buying shit from the industrial

[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_01]: complex that i'm guilty of all the time simple as that it also doesn't take into account

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_01]: the independence of having your own food we all remember 2020 when a whole bunch of things

[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_01]: just completely disappeared from the grocery store shelves and all the sudden they had the limit

[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and ration in the whole works guess what having a more independent society is good for society

[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_01]: as a whole and it doesn't take into effect the cost savings of growing your own food

[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe not right away but down the road those are three things right there that and i know

[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a study based on the carbon footprint alone the problem is is that folks take this as the

[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_01]: gospel and say okay well i guess i shouldn't grow vegetables then because you know the

[00:28:51] [SPEAKER_01]: michigan herald or whatever this newspaper is told me i shouldn't how about this here's a thought

[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_01]: this is something that homesteaders and poor folk have been doing for years but use recycled

[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_01]: or upcycled materials i wanted to build a chicken pen so guess what i did i went down i

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_01]: walked the beach and i found a whole bunch of driftwood that i could drive into the ground

[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_01]: i'm not seeing wherever you stand on the idea of you know using materials or not using materials

[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_01]: using recycled materials is better in so many ways again what a great solution now here's

[00:29:26] [SPEAKER_01]: the next thing this is urban gardening this study again people don't see that they just see

[00:29:33] [SPEAKER_01]: the headline in their mind people interpret this as growing your own vegetables is bad for the

[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_01]: environment big corporate growing your vegetables is good for the environment this does not take

[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_01]: into account suburban gardening it doesn't take in rural gardening it doesn't take in homesteading

[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_01]: gardening so what what can we do well screw them don't worry about it grow your own garden

[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_01]: save your own seeds use local and recycled materials and finally here's something that

[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_01]: we joke about all the time but this article this study really did make me think how about

[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_01]: our input cost everybody's heard the story from some homesteader who said hey look at this tomato

[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_01]: this is my beautiful very first tomato and it only cost me a hundred and fifty dollars in input

[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_01]: supplies right we joke about that but you know what that's something to think about maybe we could go

[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_01]: get seeds from our local neighbors maybe we could learn how to start our own seedlings

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe we don't need that fancy ass raised bed garden it cost me five hundred dollars including

[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_01]: pond liner and drainage no anyway maybe we don't i'm just saying instead of throwing the baby

[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_01]: out with the bath water maybe we can learn something from this article maybe we can say

[00:30:52] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe i shouldn't spend just as much maybe i could reuse materials anyway it's a thought

[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_01]: these type of articles they sell clicks they you know they they get eyeballs and i just

[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_01]: don't want folks to read it and say not that this is going to affect our community that much

[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_01]: but i wanted to come at it from a solutions based premise here so all right what do we got next

[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_01]: the next article of the week comes from the cbc the canadian corporate news anyway it's funded

[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_01]: by our government will deal with it but this was close to home or at least close to where i used to

[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_01]: call home and this was the massive storm the massive snow storm in cape breton mainly and for

[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: those who don't know novus kosher is on the east coast of canada i call it the main of canada

[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's mostly a peninsula except the very top which is a big island and that's called

[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_01]: cape breton and they had a historic snowfall i will try to convert as we go along here but here's

[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_01]: the story and this is what four days afterwards novus kosher still digging out after historic

[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_01]: snowfall drops 60 inches in some areas crazy people in novus kosher were digging out monday

[00:32:05] [SPEAKER_01]: after historic multi-day snowstorm slammed much of the province with some residents of the hard

[00:32:10] [SPEAKER_01]: hit cape breton being told to shelter in place as crews struggled to clear snow covered streets

[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_01]: anytime we deal with a big weather phenomenon like that shelter in place is used quite often

[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_01]: now the largest snowstorm i ever saw was in 2004 it was called white one what a funny name because

[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_01]: we had a hurricane early in the year called one but it was a nasty storm that was four foot of

[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_01]: snow with some drifts that were 10 or 12 feet high at times but this one was even bigger than that

[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_01]: but it wasn't the entire province at least not that bad here's another thought or another thing

[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_01]: that the government saying it could be days before some rural roads are cleared report the chief

[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_01]: engineer novus kosher chief engineer told reporters the top priority is making sure the major

[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_01]: series highways are cleared followed by trunk highways roads and then local roads and then

[00:33:05] [SPEAKER_01]: gravel roads i wanted to talk about that just a little bit the thought the the process of course

[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_01]: the further rural we live the more self-sufficient we need to be and the longer we need to expect

[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_01]: to not have our roads cleared i get it not the end of the world right uh it was said that a

[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_01]: state of emergency doesn't mean snow clearing will happen faster um this government official said

[00:33:26] [SPEAKER_01]: it means people can be fined for being outside unnecessarily again something i didn't know

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_01]: i didn't know in canada that if they declared a state of emergency and you're outside

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_01]: for a non-emergency reason they can find you and i'm sure put you in jail if they really want to

[00:33:42] [SPEAKER_01]: they said some equipment was having such a hard time getting through the heavy snow some

[00:33:46] [SPEAKER_01]: of the plows were actually getting stuck i saw our grader here in town the other day

[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_01]: it tends to break down quite often it wasn't stuck but it wasn't working

[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and transit cape retin will not be operating still a couple of days after the storm

[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_01]: son um there was some requests sent to the federal government for heavy equipment to

[00:34:04] [SPEAKER_01]: assist with snow removal possible fuel storage to help replenish equipment faster and air transport

[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_01]: to help with the delivery of supplies and possible evacuations again all of these things sound scary

[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_01]: don't they they reported up to 30 car accidents and many many every single time many many many

[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_01]: stranded motorists and abandoned vehicles what is wrong with folks i don't know and

[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_01]: note for those of you on the audio you won't be able to see this picture but there is a dude

[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_01]: literally shoveling off the roof of his one-story house and the drift is up to somewhere between

[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_01]: his waist and his shoulder so we're talking four feet of snow on the roof of that house

[00:34:46] [SPEAKER_01]: good thing snow load is an issue when building houses in Nova Scotia but

[00:34:51] [SPEAKER_01]: that's heart attack snow folks so be careful out there so what do we do you look at this and

[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_01]: you think what would happen if it happened to me well it did happen to me in the past and it could

[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_01]: happen to most of us probably not Ellen down in Australia i'm thinking she probably won't

[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_01]: be dealing with six feet or five feet of snow but here we are anyway have lots of food on

[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_01]: hands folks we know this this is one of those things that we preach but this is something

[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_01]: that i hope gets out to the you know the general public if you live in a rural area you should have

[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_01]: a bunch of food on hand anyway but if you live somewhere where you can get shut down for a metric

[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_01]: shit ton of time simply because mother nature decided to go a little cold well there you go

[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_01]: what do we do we have food on hand obviously have prescriptions and have baby supplies

[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_01]: our girls were on formula we always made sure we had an extra couple of cans of formula

[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_01]: because you just didn't know if wal-mart or wherever you picked it up would be out of it but

[00:35:46] [SPEAKER_01]: more than that what happens if you get four feet five feet of snow dumped on you and you can't get

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_01]: to the store for a week you got to figure out a way to feed your babies you got to figure out a way

[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_01]: to make sure your blood pressure stays down and you got to eat if you can't eat you're in trouble

[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and if you're out there shoveling snow like a bugger you're going to need more calories too right

[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_01]: have a plan i saw some articles or some pictures on reddit actually

[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_01]: the folks that actually had to climb out of second story windows to get out of their house

[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_01]: i saw a picture of a guy who rolled up his garage door and there was about three inches

[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_01]: of light at the very top that is so overwhelming it's scary so have a plan how can i get out of my

[00:36:27] [SPEAKER_01]: home if the snow is you know up to the eaves right what are you going to do here's another one

[00:36:34] [SPEAKER_01]: and i just did a review on the dwalt battery powered snowblower but a tip that i actually

[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_01]: have a really good story one of one of kind of my adopted grandfather's his name was po he's long

[00:36:46] [SPEAKER_01]: since passed away many years ago i one of my good friends alex it was his grandfather and we went

[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_01]: over to his house to play risk during white one and i get over there and it is a blizzard out

[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and po is out with the snowblower and i looked at him and i said what is wrong with you

[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and he goes if i don't do it now by the time it totally gets dumped on i ain't going to be

[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_01]: able to do it so in other words stay on top the snow it sucks but if you have a path or

[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_01]: you know think of it this way even if you can just keep a three foot wide path open from you to the

[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_01]: street that could mean the difference between life and death so if it's going to if it's given five

[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_01]: feet of snow and you got to go out every hour to clear a foot of snow with a snowblower or whatever

[00:37:29] [SPEAKER_01]: all the better for it so stay on top the snow if you can keep an eye on your vents and

[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_01]: your chimneys folks this is one of those bad ones but you can see there his chimney in the background

[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_01]: is okay but i've seen lots of chimneys that get frosted or iced over and that can cause a number

[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_01]: one it can shut your furnace off and if it doesn't have proper safeguards in place

[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_01]: it could end up poisoning you so you don't want that and then of course stay the hell home

[00:37:54] [SPEAKER_01]: we did that episode a few months back on the LA riots and every single person just

[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_01]: about who died as a result of the riots would not have died if they'd have just done those four words

[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_01]: stay the hell home simple as that all right on to the next this is the stranger than fiction this one

[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_01]: is literally stranger than fiction and if you haven't heard this this might be one i haven't seen

[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_01]: do the round yet but here you go this is an article from newsweek and it says map shows

[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_01]: NATO territory losing gps amid russia electronic warfare drill didn't even know this existed

[00:38:30] [SPEAKER_01]: folks but it's kind of interesting and again we're going to come at this from a solutions-based

[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_01]: perspective gps disturbances were detected across nato member poland on tuesday they've sparked speculation

[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_01]: of russian involvement following a similar incident in the region last month over northern and central

[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_01]: poland the gps signal was again jammed with war saw and a few other cities affected and the

[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_01]: swedish military intelligence agency is investigating at the moment here's an

[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_01]: this is kind of cool for those again on the on the video feed audio we got a map here that shows

[00:39:04] [SPEAKER_01]: where gps was completely jammed i didn't even know you could jam gps but here you go

[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_01]: russians tested this electronic weapon in kolingrad so almost half of poland and the

[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_01]: swalki corridor were left without gps gps jamming was detected in eastern and southeastern

[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_01]: parts of nato's newest member finland and here's the thing they say we don't know whether it was

[00:39:31] [SPEAKER_01]: intentionally caused or a byproduct of the russian activities there you go simple as that

[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_01]: here's the deal it doesn't matter if it was intentional or it was a byproduct either way

[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_01]: gps was jammed so here's my thoughts this reminded me again of about a year and a half

[00:39:49] [SPEAKER_01]: ago coming back from the us and bell canada shutting off my data because apparently i'd use too much

[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_01]: or they didn't have the proper plan on there and guess what like a good prepper that was my only

[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_01]: source of navigation yeah i know right i felt like i was standing up in you know 10th grade

[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_01]: getting ready to do a presentation and i'd forgot to put clothes on that's how naked i felt i'm

[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_01]: telling you it was a horrible feeling so number one know your routes travel them on occasion without

[00:40:21] [SPEAKER_01]: gps most folks will travel within their own city and never once look at landmarks or anything because

[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_01]: they just listen to google maps or gps it's a really good becky and i do this now now that we've

[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_01]: gone to the city we go to edmonton quite regularly we will travel and try to use our brain

[00:40:36] [SPEAKER_01]: sometimes it screws us up but you know what when you screw up you get stressed out that's

[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_01]: when you make those new mental synapse connections and you realize that's how i get there so don't

[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_01]: only be reliant on electronics for that kind of stuff right also if you do have working gps

[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_01]: take a picture or a screenshot of your directions so that if you do lose data you still have it

[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and of course keep a paper atlas on hand i was uh we stopped at a gas station in towfield the

[00:41:05] [SPEAKER_01]: other day which is about two hours away from here they had a ton of maps and there was a

[00:41:09] [SPEAKER_01]: guy picking one up and i was like yeah that's kind of cool so i do i now have a spiral bound

[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_01]: a really nice spiral bound atlas down in i kind of have this third layer of hidden compartments

[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_01]: it's it's not intentional it was just put there in a ram and it's underneath the center console

[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_01]: perfect space for a spiral bound north american road atlas so simple as that apparently so yeah um

[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_01]: ellen kerr says so it's easy to jam gps low cost and causes havoc and they're illegal though

[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_01]: totally get it but that's the crazy thing just because something's illegal doesn't mean people

[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_01]: don't have it but this is a massive electronic weapon that rushes using and apparently they've

[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_01]: been using it to try to jam you know gps guided missiles and that sort of thing so of course we're

[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_01]: always going to be the dealing with the after effects of other countries war efforts so this is

[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_01]: just one of them things that could be very simple it could be a solar flare could be a ton of things

[00:42:11] [SPEAKER_01]: that end up putting the gps out permanently or more than likely or more likely temporarily so

[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_01]: again just think about it what are the things we can do to have redundancies two is one one is

[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_01]: none and three is a guarantee right so three ways to get home there you go simple as that so that's

[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_01]: the end of stranger than fiction for this week i hope i hope i come at it with some more solutions

[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_01]: for you and some interesting articles maybe you hadn't quite heard yet all right next what do we

[00:42:41] [SPEAKER_01]: got well we got to talk about our first sponsor the evening and that is my good buddy joel riles

[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_01]: we're actually talking today had some generator problems poor guy and he has the protection

[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_01]: dog podcast he took a chance on our podcast here and he's like hey i want to sponsor you

[00:42:57] [SPEAKER_01]: i want to do value for value exchange so give him some listen if you're wanting to get motivated

[00:43:03] [SPEAKER_01]: it's called the protection dog podcast but i tell you every single week it's more than that it's

[00:43:08] [SPEAKER_01]: way more than dogs it's about rebuilding your life from scratch it's about being self-sufficient

[00:43:13] [SPEAKER_01]: it's about making all the money you can it's about building your empire and it's about

[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_01]: doing the shit even when you don't feel like doing the shit so there you go

[00:43:21] [SPEAKER_01]: don't forget my good buddy joel riles at the protection dog podcast all right next we have

[00:43:26] [SPEAKER_01]: the side hustle spotlight this is a good one this is a little bit different but i wanted to share it

[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_01]: with you because i liked it yet another alberta story this one came out this week from global

[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_01]: news and it was the eminem eminem junk removal company launches a free cycle furniture

[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_01]: program now here's the deal this in and of itself isn't necessarily a side hustle or an

[00:43:48] [SPEAKER_01]: entrepreneurial venture but there's some lessons we can pull out of it and i i really like this one

[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_01]: so eminem junk removal company launches free cycle furniture program during business hours

[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_01]: just junk is a full service item removal company but on monday nights it recycles some of those

[00:44:05] [SPEAKER_01]: furniture pieces and offers them to people in need so this reminds me back in my college days

[00:44:12] [SPEAKER_01]: i think it was nb tell at the time new brunswick telecom they used to have this place where all

[00:44:18] [SPEAKER_01]: these nerdy old dudes would get together and they would take all of these donated computers

[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and they would put them back together and make workable computers for low-income families

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_01]: this is similar but there's some like i said entrepreneurial lessons to be learned in the

[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_01]: past the company had donated the selvic is a salvage furniture to organizations like habitat

[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_01]: for humanity but with inflation going up and people having a hard time we just figured we

[00:44:43] [SPEAKER_01]: donate our furniture and we receive from our customers on a weekly basis so every monday

[00:44:47] [SPEAKER_01]: night from 6 30 to 8 30 they open the doors folks can take as much or as little as they want

[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_01]: he said the program also saves household items from the landfill so what do i like about this

[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_01]: well there's a few thoughts here but the big one is number one some of these things

[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_01]: might be slightly broken so if you take them you might need to know how to fix them what a great

[00:45:10] [SPEAKER_01]: skill being a handyman is a prepper i love that okay but we're talking about entrepreneurial

[00:45:14] [SPEAKER_01]: things and here's the thing a skill of entrepreneurs is to see the need and to find a way to make

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_01]: money but there's a second one that we don't always talk about so much and that is to also

[00:45:27] [SPEAKER_01]: figure out ways to not spend as much money so if you're spending less money or you're making

[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_01]: more money they're both improving the bottom line right now what do i like about this they look at

[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_01]: this and they say hey we have this junk we're already getting paid to haul it away and we probably have

[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_01]: to pay massive amounts of money to take it to the landfill and there's people who could probably

[00:45:51] [SPEAKER_01]: use it so guess what we can divert it from the landfill we can save the disposal fees and we

[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_01]: can give it to other folks who could use it there's lots of places that are doing this but

[00:46:01] [SPEAKER_01]: this is the same concept that i think about every time i go to my local landfill

[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and i think all right here's the deal i look they have this great big massive burn pile

[00:46:11] [SPEAKER_01]: that if somebody wanted to go through it and pick out all the firewood in there

[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_01]: they could sell it or heat their house for a month of sundays it would be awesome

[00:46:19] [SPEAKER_01]: tons of redeemable bottles go to the landfill if they wanted to let some you know poor folk

[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_01]: or a kid maybe not a kid but a teenager go through and collect them why not you're

[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_01]: going to divert them right the copper that goes into the scrap all these things so there's always

[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_01]: ways to look at what you're doing and say how can i make more money or how can i save more money

[00:46:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're both really important and cold war preppers is timing in that is also critical

[00:46:46] [SPEAKER_01]: and i'm thinking i'm gonna guess he's talking about giving away this kind of stuff because

[00:46:50] [SPEAKER_01]: this is a problem and this is what i ran into when we used to tear apart or clean up abandoned

[00:46:57] [SPEAKER_01]: bank properties i used to save everything and then i would put it in a storage container

[00:47:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and i would say you know what i'm going to give that to somebody and guess what would happen

[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_01]: i'd never find somebody to give it to so what i would probably say is i'm guessing that come

[00:47:13] [SPEAKER_01]: tuesday after they've done the giveaway whatever's left probably still goes to the landfill

[00:47:17] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's one more step to get rid of a bunch of shit that you don't have to pay

[00:47:21] [SPEAKER_01]: to do it i like that all right next thing we have is workshop wasteland and this is where we

[00:47:27] [SPEAKER_01]: take a look at post apocalyptic and dystopian popular culture movies music books whatever

[00:47:37] [SPEAKER_01]: so this one's a real quick one we're not going to spend any time on it at all if you've played

[00:47:41] [SPEAKER_01]: the last of us which i really enjoyed haven't played the last of us too but neil druckman teases

[00:47:45] [SPEAKER_01]: a concept for last of us part three all it was a documentary on the making of last of us part two

[00:47:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and he said there's probably one more chapter to this story he has a concept and that's all there is

[00:47:56] [SPEAKER_01]: to it there's no more i can tell you about it but if anybody's out there and they are a last of us

[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_01]: fan it sounds like there's a good chance they might get a part three eventually now this one i ran

[00:48:07] [SPEAKER_01]: across this is just a new video game we're not going to talk about it long because i'm not

[00:48:11] [SPEAKER_01]: a huge video gamer but there are folks out there that are and this is a game on steam called new

[00:48:18] [SPEAKER_01]: cycle not news cycle but new cycle and here is the the blurb new cycle is a city building game with

[00:48:26] [SPEAKER_01]: focus on survival after an apocalyptic series of solar flares human society has been thrown into

[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_01]: disarray establish a settlement and develop it all the way from humble beginnings to industrial

[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_01]: metropolis all i wanted to share was if folks are into like the age of empire's world building game

[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_01]: this is a kind of steam punk post apocalyptic version of that so if there's folks out there that are

[00:48:49] [SPEAKER_01]: like hey i'd like to test my world building skills this might be something to check out

[00:48:53] [SPEAKER_01]: all right now the big part of this week in workshop wasteland is the mist how many of you

[00:49:01] [SPEAKER_01]: or if anybody out there has ever seen it it is definitely one of my favorites it definitely

[00:49:05] [SPEAKER_01]: falls under the apocalyptic movie framework and becky and i sat down and rewatched a little while

[00:49:12] [SPEAKER_01]: ago and so what i'm going to do in this segment is if i watch new movies i'm going to give you a

[00:49:17] [SPEAKER_01]: two or three minute review of them but if i watch classics i'm going to do the exact same thing

[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_01]: because this is one of the best apocalyptic films ever made if you haven't seen it

[00:49:27] [SPEAKER_01]: do yourself a favor when you have a time a time when you have a time i sound like an italian

[00:49:33] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a mario when you have a time then you should probably well anyway give yourself some

[00:49:39] [SPEAKER_01]: enjoyment and sit down and watch it sometime but all right so my thoughts on the mist and why it is

[00:49:46] [SPEAKER_01]: literally a classic apocalyptic film number one this thing gets going fast there's maybe three

[00:49:53] [SPEAKER_01]: minutes of build up of an early storm and then boom you get right into the action you might not

[00:49:58] [SPEAKER_01]: know what the action is but it happens real quick no power no radio no cell phone no pay phone what

[00:50:06] [SPEAKER_01]: everything gets blown almost like an emp it's not an emp but real quick you realize

[00:50:10] [SPEAKER_01]: shit's gone sideways and i like that you got power trucks going you got the military you

[00:50:15] [SPEAKER_01]: got fire and police you find out that leave for the military base has all been canceled and there's

[00:50:21] [SPEAKER_01]: really creepy silent hill type siren you know things aren't good this film has probably

[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_01]: one of the most perfect scripts there's very few words that are wasted and the way it's set up

[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_01]: through three acts and we're going to talk a bit more about it it just has one of the tightest

[00:50:40] [SPEAKER_01]: most enjoyable scripts i love seeing classics done like this i'm a huge fan of confined space

[00:50:48] [SPEAKER_01]: films if you haven't watched if you haven't heard me talk about this in the past i love movies like

[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_01]: pony pool where the entire thing takes place within a radio studio and you're hearing about

[00:50:58] [SPEAKER_01]: the apocalypse happening in the background there's something claustrophobic and intimidating and

[00:51:04] [SPEAKER_01]: anxious anxiety inducing in these closed kind of confines so for some reason we now have

[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_01]: a completely different movie playing up there that's great so all right the ending i'm not

[00:51:17] [SPEAKER_01]: going to spoil the ending but the ending is as bleak as any movie i've ever seen frank darabond who

[00:51:23] [SPEAKER_01]: also did a couple other steven king classics and wrote the first season of the walking dead actually

[00:51:30] [SPEAKER_01]: rewrote the ending to the mist and steven king patted him on the back and said man i wish i'd

[00:51:35] [SPEAKER_01]: have thought of that sound design or lack of sound is incredibly creepy in the mist they

[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_01]: they do the old you know hearing things instead of seeing things and it's super impactful

[00:51:49] [SPEAKER_01]: also the tempo of the film is great you get these long quiet sections and then all of a

[00:51:55] [SPEAKER_01]: sudden all hell breaks loose with action and it must be similar to being a police officer driving

[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_01]: around you know eight hours of the day nothing happens and all of a sudden there's a high speed

[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_01]: police chase it's that kind of thing it's got a 1950s monster movie vibe to it and i love it

[00:52:12] [SPEAKER_01]: the acting is over the top on purpose because it is dealing with or trying to pay homage to

[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_01]: the old 1950s monster films there's actually a black and white version that was released

[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_01]: i believe in theaters on the 10th anniversary i haven't seen it but i think this movie would

[00:52:31] [SPEAKER_01]: really really be done well in black and white what i really like more than anything is the

[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_01]: psychological and the sociological themes of this movie they really quickly the folks in

[00:52:44] [SPEAKER_01]: there kind of devolve into three groups you've got your realists your rationalists and your

[00:52:49] [SPEAKER_01]: religious and it doesn't take any time at all to see how quick society would collapse and

[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_01]: how quick they would reform into these little cadres of folks i love it there's a great quote

[00:53:00] [SPEAKER_01]: in the movie that sums up the entire theme of the film and it says sure as long as the

[00:53:06] [SPEAKER_01]: machines are working and you can doll 9-1-1 but you take those things away you throw people

[00:53:10] [SPEAKER_01]: into the dark you scare the shit out of them no more rules and you'll quickly see how primitive

[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_01]: people can become yep i'm a big fan of the unknown and in my limited experience with films

[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_01]: when you don't see the monster it's more scary than when you do now the downside i'm gonna say

[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_01]: the CGI looks terrible on purpose it looked dated when it came out but that is one notch down for sure

[00:53:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and where the film falters a bit is in the showing of the thing so you will see all of these crazy

[00:53:46] [SPEAKER_01]: creatures and stuff i don't think it was necessarily needed i think the film could have

[00:53:50] [SPEAKER_01]: been done really well with almost never showing any of the monsters but there you go

[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_01]: i'm gonna actually i had a note here i'm gonna leave that out because i don't want to spoil the ending

[00:54:04] [SPEAKER_01]: but hitchcock here's two quotes from hitchcock that i love he says suspense is like a woman

[00:54:08] [SPEAKER_01]: the more left in the imagination the more the excitement and then he said there is no terror

[00:54:13] [SPEAKER_01]: in the bang only in the anticipation of it that is one of my favorite quotes of all time

[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_01]: in other words the monster you don't see is scarier than the monster you do i give it four and a half

[00:54:27] [SPEAKER_01]: out of five stars it would be a perfect film if it showed the monsters less and the CGI didn't suck

[00:54:34] [SPEAKER_01]: donkey balls other than that it's a perfect apocalyptic film if you've never seen it do

[00:54:39] [SPEAKER_01]: yourself a favor make yourself an old-fashioned sit down on the snowy saturday night and watch

[00:54:44] [SPEAKER_01]: the mist just be prepared to be slightly broken in your spirit because that ending is a gut punch

[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_01]: folks all right moving right along to one of my most favorite titled segments of the week and

[00:54:58] [SPEAKER_01]: that is i read it on the internet so this is where i go to our preppers on reddit.com and if you

[00:55:05] [SPEAKER_01]: haven't been there we've talked about it and i pick the most interesting article or the highest

[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_01]: trending post of the week this is a good one this is by user simple witch and the question

[00:55:17] [SPEAKER_01]: was posed why do you guys have kids i have so many friends trying to have kids or kids on the way

[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_01]: with everything that is going on i don't understand why anyone would want to have kids right now

[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_01]: i know it's not reasonable to live in fear my heart tells me it's okay to have kids maybe

[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_01]: nothing will happen but my brain tells me it's the worst idea ever there's this lingering

[00:55:36] [SPEAKER_01]: threat of war terrible climate change and so on with a lot of luck maybe we won't be affected by

[00:55:41] [SPEAKER_01]: anything major in our lifetime but our kids will be 100 won't they i feel like it's so irresponsible

[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_01]: to make kids just so they'll suffer in a few years maybe i'm wrong i just can't imagine

[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_01]: actively trying to have kids and never think about the future and what scientists and

[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_01]: experts say well there's anyway my mom told me i'm selfish for not having kids anyway so

[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_01]: we'll get into that but i just wanted to share that is a common thread amongst preppers and non-preppers

[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_01]: alike and especially the the older gen z generation as they get older there a lot of them don't want

[00:56:15] [SPEAKER_01]: to have kids because they have been spoon fed an entire diet of fear since the day they were

[00:56:22] [SPEAKER_01]: born and damn it it's sad it makes me sad a couple of edits here they said i'm not from the

[00:56:28] [SPEAKER_01]: us i live near ukraine where there's special operation going on right now we've had bombing

[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_01]: last year just 200 kilometers away from my home so many of you anyway that sucks this breaks my

[00:56:42] [SPEAKER_01]: heart because i love my kids we've got five kids as i was putting this article together

[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_01]: alice actually messaged me and i seen it and she's like dad and i'm like oh she needs me to

[00:56:54] [SPEAKER_01]: run or something she wanted me to run her water bottles over to basketball and as much as for an

[00:56:59] [SPEAKER_01]: instant i'm like oh shit i don't want to do that i think now that's why i had kids and i friggin love

[00:57:04] [SPEAKER_01]: them and they crack me up and there's so many reasons but this is an interesting kind of so

[00:57:10] [SPEAKER_01]: i wanted to share three or four comments from the reddit community on their thoughts of why

[00:57:14] [SPEAKER_01]: they have kids and then i'll share my thoughts on why becky and i had kids

[00:57:20] [SPEAKER_01]: we're preppers not doomers if you haven't heard the term doomer that is a late 80s early 90s where

[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_01]: folks went around you know chicken little the world's gonna end right so they said we're preppers

[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_01]: not doomers what are you even trying to survive for good point how about this one the shit has hit

[00:57:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the fan numerous times throughout our history empires rise empires fall plagues kill millions

[00:57:43] [SPEAKER_01]: natural disasters and destroy entire cities whole civilizations have come and gone most of what we

[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_01]: call preparedness now is simply a base way humans have survived after every disaster people crawl

[00:57:56] [SPEAKER_01]: from the rubble and life goes on we live in a unique time where the norm doesn't partake

[00:58:03] [SPEAKER_01]: in subsistence farming hunting or anything like that it's uh finally this one here we prep

[00:58:10] [SPEAKER_01]: because of things like this i couldn't give a shit about myself i mostly prep for my family

[00:58:16] [SPEAKER_01]: having kids and giving them a good life why do we prep why do we have kids as preppers not

[00:58:23] [SPEAKER_01]: everybody does and if you don't want to have kids i'm not going to judge you i'm an anarchist do

[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_01]: whatever you want as long as you don't steal my shit or hurt me i'm cool but it made me think

[00:58:34] [SPEAKER_01]: why did i have kids why did becky and i have kids well one is because i want a legacy and

[00:58:39] [SPEAKER_01]: i don't mean that in a bad way but uh you know there is an innate darwinian instinct within

[00:58:46] [SPEAKER_01]: i think most folks that part of the reason we're on this planet is to further our dna and simple as

[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_01]: that it's not here nor there because i believe this world is worth inhabiting we live in an

[00:59:01] [SPEAKER_01]: incredible world that is worth taking care of and i think by choosing not to have kids

[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_01]: we're choosing not to inhabit this planet and for me i want my kids to have the future

[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_01]: because there will be a future no matter what people think there will always be a future

[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and i hate when people think there isn't and i don't and i don't want people to think that because

[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_01]: good shit bad shit there was that quote that i love from c.s lewis that everybody was quoting

[00:59:29] [SPEAKER_01]: during covet and he was asked by a student how can i do anything i'm paralyzed with fear

[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_01]: with the fact that we could be annihilated tomorrow from a nuclear weapon how could i do anything

[00:59:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and he looked at them and he said listen don't you think that folks who live near the vikings

[00:59:47] [SPEAKER_01]: were constantly in fear of being annihilated by a viking ship showing up or by the black

[00:59:52] [SPEAKER_01]: plague or the black death but folks still had babies because that's what we do the this is

[00:59:57] [SPEAKER_01]: our legacy we the one of the biggest reasons we prep is so that these skills can be handed on to

[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_01]: the next generation and if we don't procreate and don't have a next generation why prep right

[01:00:13] [SPEAKER_01]: because why did i have kids because i have the desire to love and you don't have to have

[01:00:18] [SPEAKER_01]: kids to love i get it but there is something incredibly special about having kids and about

[01:00:24] [SPEAKER_01]: seeing them succeed and about getting to live life a second time because first you go through

[01:00:29] [SPEAKER_01]: high school and then you get to help your kids go through high school you get to watch

[01:00:33] [SPEAKER_01]: movies with your kids for the first time that you get it's like watching them again for the first

[01:00:37] [SPEAKER_01]: time and there is nothing anyway the desire to love your kids is innate and it is something that

[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_01]: until you experience it is indescribable and because i want to have i want to have my kids

[01:00:53] [SPEAKER_01]: around and hopefully grandkids if they decide to when i'm old because i don't want to be lonely

[01:00:57] [SPEAKER_01]: i want to have you know i want my kids to come by once a week and take me out for coffee

[01:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: and push me in the wheelchair maybe that's selfish i don't know but i want my kids to inherit this

[01:01:07] [SPEAKER_01]: world i want my kids to be happy i want to impart in them all the skills that i have spent all these

[01:01:13] [SPEAKER_01]: years learning and i want them to impart those skills in their kids oh hop down off the soapbox

[01:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: tim so there you go i love my kids i think they're incredible i may not be a perfect father

[01:01:24] [SPEAKER_01]: some days but you know what i damn well try the best i can and i want their generation to

[01:01:30] [SPEAKER_01]: know that it's okay to have kids too because that is simply where this world exists and there

[01:01:36] [SPEAKER_01]: will always be bad shit and i don't want that entire generation to sit around and be scared

[01:01:41] [SPEAKER_01]: shitless because they've been spoon-fed a diet of climate hysteria and it frustrates me to no end

[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: next sponsor anyway my good friend john willis sent me this shirt the other day do not comply

[01:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: special operations equipment the dude is incredible he makes incredible gear but i simply

[01:02:02] [SPEAKER_01]: want to thank him every time i get a shirt i'm going to give him a shout out because i don't

[01:02:06] [SPEAKER_01]: deserve it he sends them to me the dude is an inspiration he has helped me along the way

[01:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: and if you're looking for cool tactical gear or just cool shirts give him a go guys all right

[01:02:15] [SPEAKER_01]: what's next we have the cookbook of the collapse so again number one i want to

[01:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: reach out to you guys and say hey if you have simple family recipes or whatever that would

[01:02:28] [SPEAKER_01]: allow you to use your preps send them to me i want to make a workshop cookbook called the cookbook

[01:02:35] [SPEAKER_01]: of the collapse we get to 100 we're gonna put them together that today's episode today's episode

[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_01]: what what are you tim what is this like saturday morning cartoons anyway today's recipe comes

[01:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: again from jim tubs he sent one last week and this one goes along with it he had he comes from

[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_01]: saw horse stables woodcraft and this one is a simple recipe for sausage gravy oh the bane of my

[01:02:59] [SPEAKER_01]: existence i do love it though one pound ground breakfast sausage four cups hold milk you can

[01:03:04] [SPEAKER_01]: use two percent if you want a third a cup all-purpose flour salt and pepper to taste oh man

[01:03:10] [SPEAKER_01]: brown the sausage in a large skillet he prefers to use cast iron until cooked do not drain leave

[01:03:17] [SPEAKER_01]: the good fat in there lower heat to low sprinkle flour over cooked sausage mix the flour into the

[01:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: sausage heat on low until flour is cooked add half the milk increase the heat stirring consistently

[01:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: add the remainder of the milk stir until your desired thickness add salt and pepper to taste

[01:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: and then serve over biscuits or hash browns that almost sounds sad to put them on hash browns they

[01:03:38] [SPEAKER_01]: got to go on biscuits right but what a great what a great simple recipe i had never had biscuits and

[01:03:45] [SPEAKER_01]: gravy before i went to the us and i friggin love them they're not available in canada for anybody who's

[01:03:50] [SPEAKER_01]: wondering it's just not a canadian thing so if you're looking for it there's the recipe

[01:03:54] [SPEAKER_01]: i'm not sure if it made it into the show notes tonight but i will make sure it gets into the

[01:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: show notes all the articles are but i don't think i put the recipe in there for you

[01:04:03] [SPEAKER_01]: all right what's next this week in the workshop

[01:04:08] [SPEAKER_01]: this is something i used to do on my saturday shows and we've moved it into this this week

[01:04:12] [SPEAKER_01]: in prepping and it's again where i share with you the things that i've gotten done so that you

[01:04:17] [SPEAKER_01]: guys keep me accountable and hopefully maybe i inspire you to try some new things as well but

[01:04:23] [SPEAKER_01]: i uh first thing i did last week early this week was demolish the bathroom and the

[01:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: rental that i'm renovating and what a stench folks remember to wear gloves because also don't use

[01:04:35] [SPEAKER_01]: particle board around a toilet yeah enough said it was disgusting we had a furnace motor sees on a

[01:04:41] [SPEAKER_01]: rental this week got that fixed that turns out to be what caused the frozen pipes heat was on

[01:04:47] [SPEAKER_01]: but it wasn't circulating so the house wasn't getting really cold but in that cold snap it

[01:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: wasn't pushing it around because the blower couldn't engage isn't that something yeah

[01:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: went away last weekend for the badminton badminton nope that was you tim when you were a kid

[01:05:02] [SPEAKER_01]: stopped living vicariously through your kids volleyball charlotte did a volleyball tournament

[01:05:07] [SPEAKER_01]: 60 teams they tied for i can't remember if it was 17th or 23rd doesn't matter but it was above

[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: they were in the top half had a hell of a time it was just yeah that's where the kids make their

[01:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: memories so um if your kids want to do sports and you can afford it and you can make it happen

[01:05:25] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a hell of a good time every so often but it was a nasty drive home we had a nasty snowstorm

[01:05:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and ice everywhere made it home fine just drive like you know not like a maniac i got to do my

[01:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: first real test of the dwalt snow blower and if you caught it i did a review video this week

[01:05:42] [SPEAKER_01]: i liked it it's a steep price tag but for the folks it's made for it really works i spent a

[01:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: daycare furniture and um one tool in there that's been indispensable to me is a small package of impact

[01:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: driver allen keys they fit into my impact driver and they have all the different allen key sizes

[01:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: that has been a lifesaver for me we're still dealing with the electricians at the new daycare

[01:06:12] [SPEAKER_01]: in case anybody wants an update on that we should have been open by now but they just don't care

[01:06:17] [SPEAKER_01]: it doesn't matter how much you hauler or carry on quick little anecdote but they need to run

[01:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: wiring through the entire building there is a piano teacher in the basement who has a grand piano that

[01:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: costs more than most people's houses they told the electricians three times make sure you cover

[01:06:38] [SPEAKER_01]: it you keep it clean yep yep yep yep no problem but if you've ever seen the old meme and i'm

[01:06:43] [SPEAKER_01]: not slamming electricians but every electrician i've ever met has been filthy they're scared of

[01:06:49] [SPEAKER_01]: brooms and this was no different they got dirt and stuff all i don't know whatever possess them to do

[01:06:57] [SPEAKER_01]: it but this is what we're dealing with the sooner they can get this fire system installed the happier

[01:07:01] [SPEAKER_01]: we will all be had a situation with a tenant this week they were new and the owners didn't get

[01:07:09] [SPEAKER_01]: the rent when they were supposed to and a whole bunch of things happened and i want to tell you guys

[01:07:14] [SPEAKER_01]: something even when you ever get into property management two things be prompt when you're going

[01:07:21] [SPEAKER_01]: after somebody like that don't let them get behind and number two make sure you put out your

[01:07:26] [SPEAKER_01]: expectations where they're supposed to be it turned out that it was an electronic transfer

[01:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: error they sent it to the wrong email address and it got lost in limbo and they brought me cash

[01:07:37] [SPEAKER_01]: and i deposited and transferred it for them but don't let shit don't let things faster deal with it

[01:07:43] [SPEAKER_01]: right away because if you don't problems can happen uh just before uh well no but lunchtime today the

[01:07:50] [SPEAKER_01]: amazon driver got stuck in my driveway and we got to use that folding shovel i got at costco last

[01:07:54] [SPEAKER_01]: year for the very first time we got him out guys if you're driving in winter conditions have

[01:08:01] [SPEAKER_01]: good tires on your vehicle he had this great big van and those tires were they looked like

[01:08:06] [SPEAKER_01]: summer tires they were awful i've if you happen to notice this week we uh thank you to letty lue who

[01:08:13] [SPEAKER_01]: revamped the logos in the names in the toolman tim's workshop telegram groups i think there's five

[01:08:20] [SPEAKER_01]: at least we have and folks were constantly posting in the wrong group because they clicked on it quick

[01:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: so hopefully this makes it a little more streamlined i heard so many complaints from

[01:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: the community that we had i had to act anyway i really appreciate when folks from

[01:08:34] [SPEAKER_01]: the community volunteer their time because some of this little stuff is the things that i don't

[01:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: always have time to do right away so thank you letty lue for that it was great uh yeah what we

[01:08:44] [SPEAKER_01]: have this week for a video well we had um the seventh edition of delinquent's gully chronicles

[01:08:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and of course we had the new review video for the dwalt snowblower which i loved and next

[01:08:56] [SPEAKER_01]: friday will be the next edition of the post apocalyptic book club i believe this will be

[01:09:02] [SPEAKER_01]: the the fourth segment of three chapters in uh iron rand's oh anyway sorry atlas shrugged

[01:09:12] [SPEAKER_01]: we've been reading through that for those who don't know and uh oh it's been a good time

[01:09:16] [SPEAKER_01]: so join us if you want to be part of it you can chat along through the telegram group you can

[01:09:21] [SPEAKER_01]: chat along through the youtube channel or i will give you the link and you can come on and talk

[01:09:26] [SPEAKER_01]: with us live all right what do we got next let's move on to the creator spotlight this is a good

[01:09:34] [SPEAKER_01]: one i like this one and right here so each week i share with you guys somebody or some creator

[01:09:42] [SPEAKER_01]: that i've been digging recently and i think would be a good um asset to the prepping community

[01:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: so i've been doing some actually in the last segment i forgot to mention i tried my melting

[01:09:55] [SPEAKER_01]: furnace for the first time the other night failed miserably but it's a learning experience so i've

[01:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: been doing a lot of precious metals watching on youtube and this dude here silver dragons i don't

[01:10:05] [SPEAKER_01]: know why he only has 196 000 subs because his stuff is awesome but what do i really like are his

[01:10:12] [SPEAKER_01]: channels his videos right here so this one for instance bullion dealer reveals worst silver to

[01:10:18] [SPEAKER_01]: his videos aren't clickbait but what he does is he has a local coin shop bullion dealer

[01:10:26] [SPEAKER_01]: where he goes in and he interviews them they're about 20 minute videos at a time

[01:10:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and they do deep dives into silver and gold and precious all of it's awesome i have learned

[01:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: more from these videos in the last week or two than i've learned in my entire life about

[01:10:41] [SPEAKER_01]: precious metals so check him out it's um silver dragons on youtube the his video link is in the

[01:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: description tonight and awesome i love it been one of the best all right next is must be nice and

[01:10:58] [SPEAKER_01]: this this is a one i don't always have on here but the idea behind it for those who are new

[01:11:04] [SPEAKER_01]: to the community must be nice came out of my presentation last year and it is one of

[01:11:11] [SPEAKER_01]: it's one of our favorite sayings around here and the idea is it's a good it's a way to pat each other

[01:11:18] [SPEAKER_01]: on the back when you're building the life you want to live and so i found this article that the title

[01:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: is doesn't do it justice but this young guy on tiktok he bought a 24 000 home on amazon i didn't

[01:11:32] [SPEAKER_01]: realize you could buy houses on amazon but i wanted to share a couple of thoughts with you here

[01:11:35] [SPEAKER_01]: so basically it's a fold up it comes in a container it folds out it's beautiful it's way

[01:11:41] [SPEAKER_01]: better than tiny houses way better than mobile homes took five guys 25 minutes to assemble it

[01:11:47] [SPEAKER_01]: and he said here opening up about his questionable purchase the 23 year old begged his followers to

[01:11:53] [SPEAKER_01]: take his card away after dropping a staggering 24 000 on the home i don't think there's anything

[01:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: staggering about this so this article took this story and tried to turn it into a negative

[01:12:03] [SPEAKER_01]: whereas i watched this entire three or four minute tiktok of this kid and he was pretty happy with his

[01:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: purchase he said uh but he has to keep his house in storage for a bit because he bought the house

[01:12:14] [SPEAKER_01]: without having land to put it on and i got to say a 23 year old who is able to buy a 20 what was it

[01:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: 24 000 modular home i think it's great so here's my thoughts guys another thing so two things

[01:12:29] [SPEAKER_01]: you've got this younger generation who's saying we why why are you having kids and the other one is

[01:12:33] [SPEAKER_01]: will never be able to afford to buy a house well guess what you gotta get freaking creative

[01:12:37] [SPEAKER_01]: so this guy got creative there was a family back in my hometown i worked with their daughter at

[01:12:43] [SPEAKER_01]: dairy queen many years ago they told the story that they didn't have the money to build an

[01:12:49] [SPEAKER_01]: entire house so they built the basement and put a floor on top of it they lived in their

[01:12:53] [SPEAKER_01]: basement for like eight years before they could afford to build an entire house

[01:12:57] [SPEAKER_01]: they figured it out and then the first thing people say is well guess what you can't build a

[01:13:02] [SPEAKER_01]: basement and live in it anymore well you might be true but you know what you can do you might be

[01:13:06] [SPEAKER_01]: able to save up and buy yourself a 24 000 modular home keep it in storage until you can figure

[01:13:11] [SPEAKER_01]: things out and then you can put it on land i know what a novel concept right but i love it

[01:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: thinking outside the ball i love seeing this gen z buy house and he's like hey i don't have land

[01:13:24] [SPEAKER_01]: to put it on yet that doesn't matter i'm buying it and i'm gonna figure it out right now he's paying

[01:13:28] [SPEAKER_01]: 150 a month for storage fees big friggin deal but here's the thing these houses are kind of cool

[01:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: they let you be mobile you can set them up in hey you can just put them wherever you want

[01:13:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and then if you're tired of where you are fold it down take off and you're all good

[01:13:47] [SPEAKER_01]: i love it absolutely love it it's making home ownership affordable for the young people who

[01:13:53] [SPEAKER_01]: are having trouble thinking they could ever even buy a house crazy isn't it i love it i love seeing

[01:13:59] [SPEAKER_01]: these kids i have this huge optimism for generation z and i'm just going to leave it there i know they've

[01:14:05] [SPEAKER_01]: like i said they've been given a whole bunch of bullshit over their lives but they're doing it

[01:14:09] [SPEAKER_01]: this kid's doing it and then i also think these foldable houses from amazon could be really cool

[01:14:14] [SPEAKER_01]: second uh second property options or say you've got people that are going to be

[01:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: staying on your property long term it would be a really good bug out slash cabin for your family

[01:14:29] [SPEAKER_01]: so yeah love it all right i want to pop back into the delinquents community

[01:14:36] [SPEAKER_01]: what we got here we got a couple different comments and then we're going to dump into the

[01:14:40] [SPEAKER_01]: community nail bag i see chase people's in here that's chuck son good to see you and he

[01:14:44] [SPEAKER_01]: said hey tim just found out you're coming to the kentucky sustainable living festival

[01:14:49] [SPEAKER_01]: it's still a secret but yes i'm absolutely going to be at the kentucky sustainable living festival

[01:14:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and i can't wait to see everybody there it's going to be great that's coming up quick

[01:14:58] [SPEAKER_01]: it's toward the end of march but we'll have more details here right away in bonnie blue

[01:15:03] [SPEAKER_01]: 2a always love seeing you in here said great show tonight thanks tim anytime that's what

[01:15:08] [SPEAKER_01]: i'm here for all right and the final segment of the evening and it's a big one it's a full

[01:15:14] [SPEAKER_01]: the community nail bag it's got about 50 pounds of nails in it now we got a lot of good mail this week

[01:15:20] [SPEAKER_01]: so we got um i've been getting comments even over on the rumble feed now which is awesome

[01:15:24] [SPEAKER_01]: this one come from iced tea for last week's episode and they said hey the dealer that the

[01:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: commenter was talking about is manfred tordella and brooks they're in the new york city new

[01:15:35] [SPEAKER_01]: jersey area they're the only dealer in the united states for pamp swiss and we talked about

[01:15:41] [SPEAKER_01]: pamp swiss last week and they're the ones that have the certified silver from their uh boolean

[01:15:47] [SPEAKER_01]: dealer anyway it's really really neat and they said there's a substantial minimum in tax involved

[01:15:51] [SPEAKER_01]: but the the only option for new gold bars from pamp swiss which is the most reputable for bars

[01:15:58] [SPEAKER_01]: if you buy coins make sure you buy them directly from the mint there are horror stories about

[01:16:02] [SPEAKER_01]: people putting tungsten and other such materials into bars but coins can be counterfitted as

[01:16:07] [SPEAKER_01]: well also remember that people selling counterfeit may not even know their counterfeit 100% there i

[01:16:13] [SPEAKER_01]: liked hearing that another thing to consider is that you're not going to have to pay for

[01:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: groceries with a bar of gold it's too valuable junk silver is probably the way to go junk

[01:16:23] [SPEAKER_01]: silver or silver coins that were minted before 1965 64 in their quarters dimes etc that have

[01:16:30] [SPEAKER_01]: been taking out a circulation of actual silver in them 100% i'm actually bringing some

[01:16:35] [SPEAKER_01]: canadian junk silver to all the events to trade and sell because i need to have more stuff to

[01:16:41] [SPEAKER_01]: physically sell at the event so i'm quite excited about that but i agree completely junk silver is

[01:16:45] [SPEAKER_01]: a great one and optimum three this was also over on rumble said this was talking about again last

[01:16:52] [SPEAKER_01]: week fire safe or um tamper resistant safe this one here said why don't you take a fireproof

[01:16:59] [SPEAKER_01]: storage box and put it inside of a tamper resistant or a break in resistant safe like that idea

[01:17:08] [SPEAKER_01]: all right what do we got next here this one was a good one there's going to be some spoilers in here

[01:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: but if you guys know we do the post apocalyptic book club this one was for William Forstian's

[01:17:19] [SPEAKER_01]: book five years later and this was from a Jeremiah who watched the live stream from four

[01:17:26] [SPEAKER_01]: five months ago and i wanted to share this they said thanks for the review i just read this one

[01:17:31] [SPEAKER_01]: month or so back and i really did enjoy it but i also felt it was a bit uneven but it didn't ruin

[01:17:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the story all right spoilers ahead if you haven't watched it or if you're worried about spoilers

[01:17:41] [SPEAKER_01]: you can turn it off now because we're almost done for the evening but they said i didn't feel

[01:17:46] [SPEAKER_01]: it ruined the story regarding the end with the bombs i don't think that it takes away from

[01:17:50] [SPEAKER_01]: john as a hero he made the hard decisions take out the true villains though it meant collateral

[01:17:57] [SPEAKER_01]: damage he was concerned about the damage but it was unavoidable to rid the world of the unhinged

[01:18:02] [SPEAKER_01]: villain i'm fair with that and i think you're right about the reality that john doesn't hide

[01:18:07] [SPEAKER_01]: that he had something to do with it he's willing to own the decision and have his name attached

[01:18:11] [SPEAKER_01]: to it i really really like that i'm just going to show it out to yosik he just popped in for

[01:18:16] [SPEAKER_01]: a second he is an indispensable member of the workshop delinquent community and uh he's well

[01:18:22] [SPEAKER_01]: past his bedtime but he stopped in to say hello good to see you brother all right next comes from

[01:18:28] [SPEAKER_01]: no one but two four not sure what that is that was on youtube and i like hearing these stories this
