[00:00:00] . . .

[00:00:30] Coming at you from the frozen tundra that is East Central, Alberta, Canada streaming live

[00:00:38] on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, Rumble and Odyssey.

[00:00:43] Welcome back to the workshop where we create community fine freedom, promote preparedness

[00:00:48] and share success.

[00:00:49] I am Toolman Tim.

[00:00:51] Today is March 14th, 2024.

[00:00:56] This is episode.

[00:00:57] I was going to tell you it was 414, but I am way off.

[00:01:00] I believe we are 434.

[00:01:03] Not really sure where I got 414.

[00:01:05] So it's great to see all my fellow delinquents in here.

[00:01:08] Happy Apple Pie Day.

[00:01:10] It is 314.

[00:01:12] Once again.

[00:01:13] I hope everyone's doing well.

[00:01:16] We have had an unseasonably warm stretch here in Alberta for us anyhow and I am enjoying

[00:01:22] it.

[00:01:23] Let's open up this evening with a rule to live by.

[00:01:27] And that rule for me is rule number 7.

[00:01:32] And this is probably one of my favorites.

[00:01:34] It is definitely one that I originated.

[00:01:37] So rule number 7, if you keep beating a dead horse, all you are going to get is a bigger

[00:01:42] mess.

[00:01:43] Now what does that mean?

[00:01:44] Well it's pretty straightforward but if you have ever heard the, what do they say?

[00:01:49] The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

[00:01:54] Well, again, if you stand in the same place, you keep doing what you're doing, you don't

[00:01:59] make any changes at all.

[00:02:01] There's no way you're going to find any improvement.

[00:02:03] The only thing you're going to do is dig yourself in a bigger hole.

[00:02:06] It's another way of saying, if you find yourself in a hole, the easiest way to get out

[00:02:09] is to first stop digging.

[00:02:11] So if you keep beating a dead horse, all you get is a bigger mess.

[00:02:15] I'm sure somebody out there be like, Tim, don't talk about dead horses.

[00:02:19] Well, it's a metaphor, I think or similarly, whatever it is.

[00:02:23] So there you go.

[00:02:24] All right.

[00:02:25] So we are going to drop into nothing like eating under and like eating on the diet, but

[00:02:32] it is right here.

[00:02:33] Dropping the dog.

[00:02:34] Dropping the dog precious metals.

[00:02:35] So this will be the precious metals report.

[00:02:41] And we are going to start with one of my favorite places to shop.

[00:02:44] Or maybe I should say one of my wife's favorite places to shop.

[00:02:47] And that happens to be Costco.

[00:02:49] So this week's dropping the dime is an article from the Toronto Star.

[00:02:54] And if you're not sure what Toronto is, it's okay.

[00:02:56] It's easy to miss.

[00:02:57] It's just a tiny little city.

[00:02:59] But maybe three or four months ago, I did a segment on Costco adding gold coins and

[00:03:07] gold bars that they were selling at online.

[00:03:10] Mainly, they would do them in store as well.

[00:03:12] Well, most recently they have now gotten into the silver game.

[00:03:16] Back in I picked a few up just to make sure that the shipping process would be nice.

[00:03:21] Make sure the price was what we expected it to be and you know, it turned out pretty

[00:03:24] good.

[00:03:25] So let me share with you.

[00:03:26] It says forget Costco chicken.

[00:03:27] You can now buy Canadian silver coins at the warehouse giant.

[00:03:32] And some of the silver and gold collectors that I follow on YouTube, their preference

[00:03:38] is for the Canadian maple.

[00:03:40] Only because of some of the newer features they put into it that make it even more difficult

[00:03:45] to forge, but there you go for the equivalent of nearly 630 Costco hot dogs.

[00:03:51] Why not dish out some money for some silver coins?

[00:03:55] Caching in on the ramped popularity of its gold bars, Costco is now selling silver

[00:04:00] bars, silver coins as well.

[00:04:03] And Canadian ones at that, not just Canadian though folks, they're also selling them in the

[00:04:09] States and they're selling silver eagles down there.

[00:04:12] So it's yeah, not bad in their price.

[00:04:15] I'm going to give you a breakdown of their price because their gold price wasn't super

[00:04:20] great, but the silver price I was pretty happy with said the discount retail giant couldn't

[00:04:26] stock its gold bars on its shelves fast enough when there was a rush to grab its 24 karat

[00:04:31] Swiss gold bars forcing Costco to limit their sales to two bars.

[00:04:35] They're limiting their sales to I believe it's five sleeves, so five tubes of 25 per week

[00:04:43] or something like that.

[00:04:44] It said when they load them on their site, they're gone within minutes.

[00:04:47] Gold and Costco's recent turn to silver have led the company's e-commerce growth.

[00:04:52] 10 million members across the country ended $25 billion in sales.

[00:04:58] So the real question is do you have a membership or not?

[00:05:02] If you're in the comments and you want to throw it out, obviously we do.

[00:05:06] We have the executive membership because it pays for itself.

[00:05:10] We buy a significant amount of stuff from Costco for the daycare.

[00:05:16] And so we get I don't remember 2% or whatever it is at the end of the year back.

[00:05:21] So this is a way to get not just a really good price on silver, but also and I just realized

[00:05:27] this because I wasn't thinking about it when I ordered silver.

[00:05:30] It's also a way to get a rebate back on your silver, which is almost nonexistent in this

[00:05:34] day and age.

[00:05:36] So here's the price 900 okay.

[00:05:39] Just remember if this is in those fake Canadian dollars, I will convert at the end here

[00:05:43] but $969 for 2 by 25.

[00:05:47] That works out to 3880 a piece shipping included.

[00:05:50] So shipping's free with this, which is nice.

[00:05:53] Now the other big place in Canada that sells is silvergoldbold.ca.

[00:05:58] 3821 a piece for random year.

[00:06:01] So the two you get from Costco, all brand new 2023's.

[00:06:06] Silvergoldbold if you want to get 2023's right now it's $5 more sorry $4.50 more than

[00:06:14] what you'd pay at Costco.

[00:06:15] So that gives you an idea.

[00:06:16] So Costco's price overall is very competitive and again if you have the executive membership

[00:06:23] you're going to get I think it's 2% back off all your purchases.

[00:06:27] And if you're wondering that $969.99 for 2 by 25 in connect dollars works out to 28

[00:06:34] dollars and 66 cents in freedom units.

[00:06:37] Good old United States greenbacks.

[00:06:40] So overall I think that is a damn good price.

[00:06:45] So if you're looking for a place to get some coffee, some gold or some silver and to

[00:06:50] get a bit of rebate back on it nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

[00:06:53] Thought I'd share it with you folks.

[00:06:55] And if you didn't catch it gold hidden all time high, believe it was in the last seven

[00:06:59] days and now silver has not followed suit.

[00:07:02] So if you're looking this is not advice but now or a week ago is a great time to buy

[00:07:09] silver.

[00:07:10] Keep an eye on the price because I have my suspicions it's going to go up.

[00:07:12] There's no expert.

[00:07:13] It just doesn't seem to me like gold can go up that high for that long without silver

[00:07:18] coming behind it.

[00:07:19] So there you go.

[00:07:20] Let's take a look and see who we have from fellow delinquents in the audience, the community

[00:07:25] of this evening.

[00:07:27] And Chris Dixon great to see us as buy all the silver evening folks.

[00:07:32] Martins and family says we don't want Toronto either.

[00:07:34] Please trade for silver.

[00:07:35] Oh yeah, might even trade trade it for beans, bullets and band-aids for that matter got

[00:07:40] Byron Roberts, Beth Emily, digger.

[00:07:43] Good to see y'all.

[00:07:44] And Martins and Family was the first one in here in the comments this evening.

[00:07:47] All right, so what do we have next?

[00:07:50] Well, let's just slide on into.

[00:07:54] If anyone is on line walk onto your road, move the body to another road.

[00:08:01] The time is time is constrictor stranger than fiction.

[00:08:06] I realized I should ask everyone out there no echoes this evening because I didn't change

[00:08:12] anything in Sunday evening.

[00:08:13] We had no echoes.

[00:08:14] So I don't know here we are.

[00:08:17] And before we pop on a little further, Rachel said the rebate is an angle ahead and thought

[00:08:21] of but I think the local shop can usually do better in small amounts though.

[00:08:28] Perfect.

[00:08:29] And Chris Dixon says the echoes growing on me.

[00:08:30] So does that mean we just had an echo because I cannot figure out and I'm going to yeah

[00:08:35] I don't know why only the Thursday show is echoing but the Sunday show is not so I don't

[00:08:42] know.

[00:08:43] Loan Canadian silver estimated to be mined out by the end of 2025 at least the profitable

[00:08:50] isn't that interesting?

[00:08:51] Yep, Paul Conrad.

[00:08:53] Good to have you guys anyway.

[00:08:55] Well I'm going to still play the transitions.

[00:08:57] They're going to be an echo on them until we can figure it out.

[00:08:59] I like the transitions will work on it so good to see y'all.

[00:09:03] All right, stranger than fiction.

[00:09:04] So this week we got four stories we're going to cover.

[00:09:07] This very first one was one that was sent to me.

[00:09:12] Well it was posted in telegram twice sent to me once.

[00:09:14] It seemed to be something everybody was quite interested in.

[00:09:17] So let's take a look.

[00:09:19] Anybody got a spare $1.1 million American kicking around because built by preppers for

[00:09:25] preppers see this was constant compound to build for off-grid lifestyles.

[00:09:30] This comes from the USA today so take it with a grain of salt.

[00:09:34] So we've got this incredible compound that was built just pre Y2K.

[00:09:40] So for any of those out there who probably shouldn't go get scheduled for a prostate exam

[00:09:45] Y2K was a bug.

[00:09:48] That's on the male side anyway, a bug in software that ended up for the most part getting fixed.

[00:09:53] It's not just a fashion style or an aesthetic like the Gen Zs like to talk about.

[00:09:58] So this stone triplex or triplex is home on 80 acres.

[00:10:03] It's a beautiful plot in so range Wisconsin, Wisconsin and it was built by preppers for

[00:10:10] preppers and is now for sale at $1.1 million according to Remax results.

[00:10:18] And Chris Dixon says that's like $11 billion.

[00:10:21] Ain't that the truth?

[00:10:22] The compound seller Jonathan Allen said in an interview that he was told when he bought

[00:10:27] it the families who built it were prepping for Y2K and he praised the resourcefulness.

[00:10:32] Now it's pretty cool so if you can see this picture I'm going to describe it for those

[00:10:35] on the audio for sure but we have what looks like honestly what this reminded me of

[00:10:42] and most of you probably haven't seen this but where I grew up Nova Scotia there was a former

[00:10:47] English fort on the top of the hill in Halifax Harbor called Citadel.

[00:10:52] And in there they had these they were basically trenches that the enemy would have to go through

[00:10:58] and both sides were lined with stone walls.

[00:11:01] They could fire a musket in there and it could ricochet off the wall.

[00:11:04] The lady said up to seven times and still be deadly so these look like the underground

[00:11:11] house was kind of designed with that in mind.

[00:11:14] It's got bridges, it's made with concrete made with stone.

[00:11:18] It's at the end of a dead end road all of those things that just get the old hairs on

[00:11:23] the back of the prepper neck standing up I got to tell you so what an interesting place.

[00:11:28] Like I said if you get next to 1.1 million designed to be easily defended for sure and built

[00:11:34] like a literal brick shit house.

[00:11:36] It's got two wells on the compound room for more than one out building but all kinds

[00:11:42] of different things.

[00:11:43] Instead of people around or old enough to remember the fear of Y2K I think the families

[00:11:47] were just strategic and smart.

[00:11:50] I want to be cautious and say they were preppers but they were also just self-sufficient.

[00:11:54] Again the whole idea of being a prepper is really just being a little more self-sufficient.

[00:11:59] The house itself is beautiful, it looks like something I don't know it has kind of a

[00:12:04] 70s aesthetic to it kind of that low bungalow I think that's what it's called a bungalow

[00:12:08] ranch style house I believe so it does.

[00:12:10] Looks like it would fit in really well other than the fact that it's stone designed as

[00:12:15] a setting for an 80s sitcom but just a nice overall looking house.

[00:12:19] It's got graduated walls, stone walls everywhere it does look like a British or a French fort.

[00:12:28] Says Alan said the property has two wells room for a machine shop separate building that

[00:12:31] used to house the diesel generator.

[00:12:34] The roof of the south facing building covered in grass which helps with insulation and camouflage.

[00:12:40] Interesting.

[00:12:42] So overall just a beautiful property set on a dead end road with vantage points.

[00:12:47] Shooting range, gardens, apple trees and plenty of lumber.

[00:12:51] Alan says it would be well suited for someone who wants to be prepared to go off the grid.

[00:12:56] This is way cooler than some of those decommissioned missile silos I mean those would be alright

[00:13:01] too but this you'd be able to I don't know if you'd want to rent it out but it's got

[00:13:06] room enough three separate build three separate living facilities all attached together.

[00:13:11] It would be great for an extended family a nice bugot location and like I said once

[00:13:17] 1.1 million dollars American between friends it's just chump change right but overall just

[00:13:23] a beautiful house looks like yeah there you go there's a plot for those who can see it.

[00:13:28] 80 acres in the middle of a fairly well I would say medium dense forest with some grassland

[00:13:36] in the middle and just a beautiful property overall says the listing for 5 3 1 2 stone

[00:13:42] road with vantage points seeing toward Duluth Minnesota and Lake Superior.

[00:13:47] So anyway I couldn't go by without sharing this story this week because everybody seemed

[00:13:52] to be a bit interested in it and again I don't know why I've always had a thing for Y2K

[00:13:57] I love this would be a just perfect bugot location if a person wanted to live in Wisconsin.

[00:14:03] I went through there one evening many many years ago stayed at the hotel a hotel cheap

[00:14:09] one in Madison Wisconsin so little young fellow maybe 16 17 working behind the counter

[00:14:14] handed him my license and he said Nova Scotta where in the world is Nova Scotta.

[00:14:19] He didn't even know Nova Scotia was a real place so there you go all right what do we

[00:14:23] got next for you folks we had this one I had to I'm a week late on talking about this

[00:14:31] but the concept or the topic of daylight savings time has been a constant refrain in the

[00:14:38] telegram group this week and I learned something I was wrong so no it's important to say on

[00:14:46] occasion so here you go when daylight savings time messes with your brain so everybody has

[00:14:50] heard the old fact that when the clocks change it's unhealthy accidents go up hard to

[00:14:57] tax go up stress murders no I don't know but murders I'm just making that burn out but overall

[00:15:03] it's just shitty when the time changes we all want to go along with it I we all want to

[00:15:09] do away with it I think anyway seems to be in our group most people are like you know what

[00:15:13] it's pretty stupid so I assumed that daylight savings time would always be better I was kind

[00:15:21] of anti-standard time because again who doesn't want an extra hour of daylight at the end

[00:15:26] of the day well Brian Alexa bit sent this article over or he made me aware of it anyhow it

[00:15:32] turns out that the springing forward in the spring is actually way worse for your health

[00:15:39] than the falling back and it's not just short term so it's not one of those things that if

[00:15:45] we switch and you know within a week or two it'll mellow out and everything will be good

[00:15:49] there are long term health effects that I had no idea about let's dig into it guys and again

[00:15:55] we've heard it the old meme that get shared every time but only the government would cut

[00:15:59] foot off the top of the blanket sew it onto the bottom and tell you have a bigger blanket they do

[00:16:04] that with taxes too don't they I'd love to tell us how you're getting this much back

[00:16:08] and know what you really did was you stole a thousand dollars and you're giving me back

[00:16:15] seventeen dollars so you should be happy don't forget about that so it opens up here I like this

[00:16:21] old this is a World War one era poster extolling the value of daylight savings time which may

[00:16:27] actually do more harm than good all right and before I go on Mitch says the property is listed

[00:16:34] at 1.1 now if anyone is looking for a steal yes yes it is all right so as people in the US this

[00:16:43] article is written a week ago prepared to set the clocks ahead one hour I find myself

[00:16:48] bracing for the annual ritual of media stories about this disruption to daily routines caused by

[00:16:53] switching from standard to daylight yeah I get it I always knew that so this this comes from Atlas

[00:16:58] Obscura tends to be one of the sites they have great articles just really interesting thought

[00:17:04] provoking stuff but the effects go beyond simple inconvenience researchers are discovering

[00:17:10] that springing ahead each March is connected with serious negative health effects including an

[00:17:16] uptick and herd attacks in team sleep deprivation so here's the deal guys this is what I ended up at

[00:17:23] I ended up reading the article just this fire and I thought well it makes sense let's just do

[00:17:27] away with it and we will go with daylight savings time will all be happy because I've always been told

[00:17:34] that there's always nasty short-term health effects during the time the time change but hang on

[00:17:41] this dude's an expert and he doesn't just play one on TV I've studied the pros and the cons of these

[00:17:47] twice annual rituals for more than five years as a professional professor of neurology at Vanderbilt

[00:17:54] University Medical Center sleep division so the dude knows what he's talking about in other words

[00:17:58] it's become clear to me and many of my colleagues that the transition to daylight savings time

[00:18:03] effects health immediately after the clock change and you're ready for this for the nearly eight months

[00:18:10] that Americans remain on daylight savings time so I thought well this is weird okay let's dig in a

[00:18:16] little bit standard time most closely approximates natural light and that's something we talk about

[00:18:22] in our prepping communities a lot is you know especially when you live up north where it gets

[00:18:27] dark for a long time the the absence of vitamin D the absence of daylight can harm you but also too

[00:18:36] much daylight at the wrong time it's not a good thing either so here you go standard time most

[00:18:42] closely approximates natural light with the sun directly overhead at or near noon in contrast

[00:18:49] during daylight savings time for March until November the clock change causes natural light to be

[00:18:54] present one hour later we know this in the evening according to clock time so why is that a big deal

[00:19:01] so here it is the biggest advantage of daylight savings time is that it provides an extra

[00:19:05] hour of light late into the evening depending on time of year for sports and that kind of stuff however

[00:19:11] here's the big however exposure to the light later in the evening for almost eight months during

[00:19:16] daylight savings comes at a price the extended evening light delays the brains release of melatonin

[00:19:23] so if you're into you know the blue light blockers and you know trying to limit your screen time

[00:19:31] at the end of the day you might not even realize that daylight savings time is doing you a huge

[00:19:36] disservice before you even start this extended evening light delays the brains release of melatonin

[00:19:42] the hormone that promotes drowsiness which in turn interferes with sleep and causes us to sleep

[00:19:47] less overall make sense geography can also make a difference like i mentioned when you live up here

[00:19:55] closer to Santa Claus the most folks you're going to get some really short days and some really long

[00:19:59] days but one study showed check this out that people living on the western edge of the time zone who

[00:20:04] get light later in the morning and later in the evening get less sleep then their counterparts

[00:20:09] on the eastern edge of the time zone did not know that they said the study found that the western

[00:20:14] edge residents had higher rates of obesity diabetes heart disease breast cancer and they said

[00:20:21] these health problems may result from chronic sleep deprivation in circadian misalignment so in other

[00:20:27] words daylight savings time does not line up as perfect with kind of our human inclination for

[00:20:36] waking up and going to sleep with the sun it kind of screws things up enough that it makes you

[00:20:41] wonky for the rest of the eight months didn't know it i don't know i probably still think that a

[00:20:48] person would get used to it i i agree uh beth emily says i'm a morning person and do not like

[00:20:54] daily savings time it is yeah what it is so i guess a few things to look at and i thought about

[00:21:01] this no matter what time change it is plan ahead just a little bit to get a little extra sleep

[00:21:07] that's what becky and i always try to do but we're never that great at it that's the problem we

[00:21:12] end up running into troubles we're like oh we'll go to bed we'll go to bed and we never want to i

[00:21:16] seem to struggle with this one springing your head worse than the falling back but remember give

[00:21:22] yourself some patience it takes a few days to climateize to the time change which is true

[00:21:27] and maybe don't plan complicated kind of stuff on the sunday after time change because that's

[00:21:34] when you're going to end up hurting yourself or i don't know if you can see took a big chunk out of

[00:21:37] my finger because once again didn't wear gloves just stupid things like that right but honestly

[00:21:42] here's what i would say something i never thought of before and it's probably not going to change

[00:21:47] the way i live per se but if you're overly sensitive to sleep issues maybe keep an eye on your

[00:21:52] sunlight exposure late in the day because again it might uh might mash you up and hear an alberta

[00:21:58] especially we are one of those where we have to put room darkening blinds and shades and that sort

[00:22:05] of thing in our bedrooms because there's lots of times that it's after 11 o'clock before the sun

[00:22:11] goes down and welcome to the party this evening hard way homestead Alaska says party all the time here

[00:22:17] in Alaska in the summer every time i think i have it bad i just got a little further north don't i

[00:22:22] so just something to think about guys i am totally down with eliminating it one way or the other

[00:22:28] just stick with it so we don't have to deal with this damn thing all the time

[00:22:32] christixen says remember elbert is vote on daylight savings time the choices were keep it or move

[00:22:37] to full-time spring ahead zero mention of standard time yeah i wondered about that i don't know where

[00:22:43] that came from i wonder now that we think about it i wonder if they had chose or if they'd put

[00:22:48] that on the plebiscite and said because i think the biggest problem was the farmers they like doing

[00:22:53] their chores in the morning and rightfully so and they didn't want to lose that extra hour of daylight

[00:22:58] in the the morning so i wonder if they'd went to standard time and for those who don't know

[00:23:03] it's my opinion on the entire thing is over the next i would say within 10 years we're going to do

[00:23:09] way of time changes altogether you've got if i remember this the reading idea i think it was 19

[00:23:14] states in a bunch of provinces right at the moment who are they have legislation passed so

[00:23:22] in the u.s you can stay on standard time i believe that's the right rule you can stay on standard

[00:23:28] time without needing approval from congress but to go to daylight all year round you need approval

[00:23:32] from congress okay but what you've got right now is a whole bunch of states that say if all our

[00:23:37] bordering states pass the laws we're going to pass it as well so you get this great old-fashioned

[00:23:42] mexican standoff with time zones for everybody waiting for someone to flinch and as soon as somebody

[00:23:47] flinches like that everybody's going to change because it's going to be one of those things so

[00:23:53] yes let's go back standard daylight doesn't matter to me but i'm kind of leaning towards standard at

[00:23:58] this point and we're going to show it out to Clark Deakin i was going to talk about him a little

[00:24:03] bit later but he was traveling through him was nice enough as a fellow delinquent to stop by and visit

[00:24:08] me at home here today so i always love it when folks uh give me the heads up and say hey

[00:24:13] i'm going to be in town you want to get together and the answer is going to be invariably yes because

[00:24:18] that's what i like to do so it was good to see it today Clark and i hope you're i don't know if

[00:24:22] you're home yet or if you're still driving but either way enjoy the show this evening all right what do

[00:24:26] we got next for you folks anybody see the crisis in Haiti because it's absolutely insane and i don't

[00:24:32] know how i missed this this is as close to a modern day collapse as we've seen in a few years that's

[00:24:39] for sure now there is some seriously messed up stuff that's going on over there but there hasn't been

[00:24:45] enough verification on some of the things i've read about so if anything if i mention anything in here

[00:24:51] i will make sure that i talk about the fact that um it hasn't been completely confirmed yet

[00:24:58] but here you go second word a cannibal gang and its barbeque leader push Haiti into chaos

[00:25:03] this is from india today dot i n and so they've been in trouble over there for quite some time

[00:25:10] we're going to talk with that a little bit now they're in a worse way than you remember the show

[00:25:14] i did on soth africa and they're worsening energy crisis over there well this is significantly worse

[00:25:21] because there's just no money around whatsoever so here we go Haiti has descendant into chaos

[00:25:27] its prime minister has resigned a gang leader named jimmy chisiri who projects himself as a revolutionary

[00:25:33] has become the most powerful person in Haiti he is known as barbeque for burning people alive in case

[00:25:40] you're wondering there's worse stories about him out there but most are unverified reports at the

[00:25:45] moment so Haiti a Caribbean country has plunged into chaos due to gang warfare the u.s. is airlift

[00:25:52] at non-essential staff from its embassy and country has declared a state of emergency the prime minister

[00:25:58] stranded outside the country and he resigned this comes get this if you thought that was bad enough

[00:26:05] this comes after gangs attack the airports their police stations their prisons and thousands of

[00:26:10] inmates have gotten out of jail in flight as well this jimmy popular popularized as baby q or barbeque

[00:26:17] is the leader of the notorious g9 and family gang and it's now the most powerful man in Haiti

[00:26:23] so you've got political turmoil you have a completely broke in collapsed government you have

[00:26:30] a former police officer turned gang member gang leader who is running the country

[00:26:36] and you have no help anywhere it is a mess the latest round of chaos led by barbeque is an attempt

[00:26:43] overthrow prime minister aerial Henry after he left for a summit last week he had gone to Kenya

[00:26:49] to secure the leadership of a UN backed international security mission but when he tried to fly back

[00:26:54] he couldn't land because of gunshots all over the place go figure so here yeah reacting to the video

[00:27:02] again I don't know how I missed this al Salvador president said the similar visuals were seen in

[00:27:08] his country as well as the gangs in Haiti needed to be eradicated so I'm not going to try to pronounce

[00:27:14] this guy's name because whatever I do will be a huge disservice to him but he said we saw similar

[00:27:18] images in al Salvador a few years ago gangs bathing with the skulls of their victims all the experts

[00:27:24] said they couldn't be defeated because they were an intrinsic part can you imagine an intrinsic

[00:27:29] part of our society could you imagine saying well you know people bathing with the skulls of other

[00:27:36] people it's just intrinsically involved in our society so we can't get rid of it they were wrong

[00:27:43] we obliterated them the same must be done in Haiti so I didn't even know about the violence in

[00:27:48] al Salvador I looked it up and in 2020 2021 they started cracking down on the gang violence

[00:27:54] they brought in 10,000 military soldiers surrounded the city where the gangs were holed up

[00:28:00] and basically eradicated them and something like 98% of the country was happy with the results so

[00:28:09] that would suck being in the middle of that so who wants to know a little bit about Mr. Barbecue

[00:28:14] because I did Jimmy Shares Year or however he pronounced popular as Barbecue is a 47 year old

[00:28:20] rifle toding former police officer he was sacked from Haiti's police force in 2018 because of his

[00:28:26] role in the slum murders and assaults Shares Year was removed from the police force for his

[00:28:31] alleged ties to a number of horrific crimes including the slaughter in the Lusseline slums were 81 people

[00:28:38] sorry 71 people were killed seven women were raped and 400 homes were burned down the New York

[00:28:44] Post reported whoo he's a scary kind of dude so here you go it is um so what happened in Haiti how

[00:28:53] did it get so bad because it seemed like I hadn't heard anything about it until all of a sudden

[00:28:59] the entire country was in collapse I believe I actually read about it on Reddit for the first time

[00:29:03] read it on Reddit and somebody said Haiti is in full collapse mode didn't know about it so I thought

[00:29:09] if I didn't know about it lots other folks hadn't heard about it and just like the South African

[00:29:14] power crisis I thought you know we can't do much over here but at least we can perhaps be informed

[00:29:22] so that we can keep an eye out for the signs here hopefully that it never happens but

[00:29:27] so the big I actually was going to go with a different article tonight and after I read it a couple

[00:29:34] times it didn't sit well with me so for the record uh the article was very staunchly talking about

[00:29:42] the supposed cannibalism in Haiti at the moment and that's scary as shit but the problem is is

[00:29:49] that I thought you know I better check the sources on that article and there's really only one or two

[00:29:54] sources that haven't been confirmed so we're going to slide back on that but the fact that the gangs

[00:29:59] are bringing people alive and they've taken over the country should let you know that uh there's problems

[00:30:04] there like I said this is the closest we've seen to a full collapse in you can't really call them

[00:30:10] modern society because unfortunately Haiti has been a mess for a long time but where did it start?

[00:30:15] you guys remember the 2010 Haitian earthquake? They've never really recovered from that so we're talking

[00:30:20] 14 years ago but it was a country and if you didn't know Haiti and the Dominican Republic actually

[00:30:27] share an island the Dominican Republic does quite well for itself Haiti is the opposite of that

[00:30:32] unfortunately and so 2010 they have an earthquake they have no money they really can't resolve

[00:30:40] anything and over the next decade the entire country gets more and more and more pissed off with

[00:30:46] their government to the point of 2019 they the main prime minister the guy who runs the

[00:30:53] country is like well surprise I'm going to suspend elections so I'm going to be an indefinite

[00:30:58] leader for the country again I didn't really hear anything about this maybe I'm just not looking at

[00:31:03] the right area so in 2021 they're like uh surprise assassination somebody killed him nobody knows

[00:31:10] who did it but somebody did in the meantime he had just um appointed kind of a a backup or an

[00:31:19] assistant prime minister at the time that person took over and again no elections no nothing just

[00:31:25] we're going to run this country and that's all there is to it people were not happy with that what

[00:31:29] so ever here's the deal Haiti has no money they have no military which means all they really have

[00:31:37] is a small police force which is woefully unprepared to handle roving gangs in the thousands they're

[00:31:43] hooped at the moment so without outside interference or intervention I'm not sure exactly what's

[00:31:49] going to happen but it's a mess and it would be scary I couldn't imagine living on an island nation

[00:31:56] like that and dealing with it I'm just not sure I don't know and uh I guess we'll see where things

[00:32:04] end up I certainly hope that they do better over there and I hope that uh anyway I don't know

[00:32:10] what the solution is to be honest because I know we all have our own problems and it would be nice

[00:32:15] to be able to own a homegrown problems first but just an interesting window I'll kind of keep an

[00:32:20] eye on this story and we'll uh we revisit it if there's any severe changes let's take a look at

[00:32:26] the community comments Clark Deacon said I set the new YouTube notification to tell me when the

[00:32:32] live stream starts and it still manages to not tell me I don't get it I can't win uh Barbecue Clark

[00:32:38] Deacon also says this barbecue character sounds like somebody from idioticacy uh lone Canadian says

[00:32:45] large voodoo culture in the country it's been a mess for longer than that go back to the days of

[00:32:49] Papa Doc Duvalier and that was 40 years ago yeah it's been a mess um back even into the I believe

[00:32:56] they were ruled by the French if I'm incorrect somebody please correct me and things if just never

[00:33:02] really never really gotten good there but a hard way hard way did say hard way homestead Alaska

[00:33:10] said didn't the Clintons help Haiti absolutely and we have somebody in here that I do not know

[00:33:19] ego happens says hey man can you tell me the game name I'm not sure what you're referring to

[00:33:25] but if it's a serious comment follow up with something else and if it's not don't worry about it

[00:33:31] all right final story of the evening for stranger than fiction which is one of my favorites for sure

[00:33:37] this is kind of a fun one and this is a reflection of self-reliance festival that's coming up which

[00:33:42] I think is kind of cool this is from Reuters or Reuters however you want to pronounce it

[00:33:47] depending on the east coast or the west coast US proper culture diversifies it made fear of disaster

[00:33:54] and political unrest so I did a we're going to talk about it a little bit later on but I ran a survey

[00:34:01] this week and I asked people how many people do you think in the United States self-identify as

[00:34:07] preppers and it turns out there's 20 million people so what's that like eight five percent of the

[00:34:13] American population self-identifies as prepper now not everybody's going to be prepared but at least

[00:34:18] people are open to the idea of it US proper culture diversifies here we go this is from Colorado

[00:34:26] March 9th Brook Mormon Morgan surveyed booths at the survival and prepper show in Colorado

[00:34:33] they were stocked with boxes of ammunition mounds of trauma kits and every type of knife imaginable

[00:34:39] self-described 30 year old lesbian from Indiana Morgan is one of a new breed of Americans getting

[00:34:44] ready to survive political upheaval and natural catastrophes a pursuit that until recently was

[00:34:50] largely associated with far right movements such as white nationalist since the 1980s now

[00:34:58] I could probably argue with that point slightly but they're not off hand there I mean for the most

[00:35:05] the survivalist movement definitely had a militia bent to it in the 80s the you know

[00:35:10] ended into the 90s and then into the 2000s with the doomsday preppers yes it absolutely was

[00:35:16] more of a right wing movement than the left but if you go back further to the back to the land

[00:35:20] movement or to the retreaters movement there was a very large left wing proponent or a portion

[00:35:27] in there of folks who were like hey we also realized the world's going to hell in the hand

[00:35:31] basket what can we do to be more self-reliant and prepared that's what I like about it so again

[00:35:37] um I probably haven't talked about it nearly enough as I should but I am 100% an anarcho capitalist

[00:35:44] and that means that you know and lots of people are going to hate me for this but you've got

[00:35:48] just as much a right to a gun as you do an abortion and I know folks are going to disagree with me

[00:35:53] but here it is it is what it is and I'm going to stand by the fact that

[00:36:00] we just need to agree on the important things and the rest we can disagree on so

[00:36:06] here we are self-described 30 year old lesbian one of a new breed of American preppers

[00:36:11] researchers say the number of preppers has doubled in size about 20 million since 2017

[00:36:16] imagine that much of that growth is from minorities and people considered left of center politically

[00:36:21] who sense of insecurity was heightened you're ready by this by Donald Trump's 2016 election okay

[00:36:28] so political upheaval made people nervous check you don't have to be from the left or the right

[00:36:33] to be nervous about political upheaval COVID-19 pandemic check guess what right left doesn't matter

[00:36:40] folks were nervous about it the effects of it whether you agree on the cause or the symptoms

[00:36:46] or the cure doesn't matter the fact that it happens means it's something we need to look at

[00:36:51] how about more frequent extreme weather yep also something that both sides of the dichotomy

[00:36:57] prep for extreme weather now where you come out on the cause of it that sort of thing doesn't

[00:37:03] really matter because again the important thing is folks are looking to be more prepared than when

[00:37:09] they came in and the 2020 racial justice protests following the murder of George Floyd once again

[00:37:16] mass protests something that lots of folks as a matter of fact last week I do believe I had a survey

[00:37:23] and people said if we deal with any one bad situation in 2024 political upheaval and mass protests

[00:37:30] would be it so there you go so these are folks from both sides of the aisle doesn't really matter

[00:37:36] coming at prepping from different advanced different vantage points but looking for the same

[00:37:43] results and I absolutely love it here we come you ready all right Morgan grew up this is the 30-year-old

[00:37:50] Idaho and in lesbian she grew up in a prepper family still considers herself self-reliant and ready

[00:37:56] to handle a disaster sounds like my type of person she left the proper world of her youth behind

[00:38:01] in part to escape the conservatism associated with the movement that's fair the diversification

[00:38:07] of prepping was clear last weekend at the survival and prepper show at the fairgrounds a liberal

[00:38:12] district get this a liberal district which Joe Biden won in 2020 by nearly 57 percentage points

[00:38:18] over Trump 2700 people paid 10 bucks a piece and the attendees were varied I like that

[00:38:25] bearded white men with cru- okay back up you're there are going to be some things in this article

[00:38:31] that we want to necessarily agree on but I'm going to share them anyway bearded white men with

[00:38:36] closely cropped hair and heavily tattoo arms were there but so were the hippie moms carrying babies

[00:38:42] in rainbow colored slings and chatting about canning methods Latino families looking over green houses

[00:38:47] and water filtration systems and members of the local mountain view fire rescue team who in 2021

[00:38:53] battled a devastating fire in the region gave CPR demonstrations and prepared citizens to be

[00:39:00] encouraged citizens to be more prepared how cool is that attendees and those running the booths have

[00:39:05] the show reflected the concerns of millions of Americans who no longer feel this is the thrust of

[00:39:10] this article here guys millions of Americans and I'm going to expand that to North Americans because

[00:39:17] I know hundreds of thousands of Canadians hopefully feel this way that they can no longer count on the

[00:39:25] government sorry that they that they no longer can always count on the government or private

[00:39:30] industry to provide the basics like electricity water and food they cited the pandemic disruption

[00:39:36] of supply chains the 2021 power grid crisis in Texas that left millions of the power in recent

[00:39:43] outages of AT&T mobile users so there you go now this is a tough pill to swallow for some folks

[00:39:53] it is and I know some of the events I've gone to in the past would not be very

[00:39:58] accepting of all folks from all political stripes and I get it because like folks are going to

[00:40:04] retract like folks but what I'm excited about is the concept of prepping does not know any sort

[00:40:11] of political striper bent so when we look at this we can say you know what let's encourage folks

[00:40:16] because once again I said it many many times prepping folks come to prepping almost exclusively

[00:40:23] through fear because of an event or something they're scared of and prepping is a kind of cathartic

[00:40:29] for them to deal with their fears and deal with the things that

[00:40:36] dealing with the things they can control you can't control all of the big things but you can

[00:40:40] definitely control what you can enough said so that being said I hate that phrase but that being

[00:40:48] said events like self alliance festival where both sides of the political spectrum show up I love

[00:40:53] I love seeing you know it's crazy and I went you know we go to prepper camp which

[00:40:58] skews very far right and then I went last year to the thrivalist fair in Addy Washington which I

[00:41:04] would say definitely skews a little further left but what I love is where we meet in the middle

[00:41:10] we meet on things like self-reliance we meet on things like growing our own gardens we meet on

[00:41:15] things like we don't trust the government we meet on things like entrepreneurship all of the above

[00:41:22] and everybody looks at the world and they say something ain't right with this thing we know it

[00:41:27] isn't right and that's okay but let's handle what we can handle let's deal with what we can deal with

[00:41:33] and the rest will ignore and it doesn't mean we have to agree on anything it doesn't

[00:41:38] mean we have to agree on everything we just have to agree that we can still work together for this

[00:41:43] kind of stuff even while not being blue or red if that makes sense so there you go all right so

[00:41:52] ego happen says I like your show I like how you explained yourself further I like your show thank

[00:41:58] you very much I appreciate you as well it's great to see you on here alone Canadian says hippies

[00:42:03] and communes yep same thing dark wing Dave says meanwhile in the free state of Idaho a bill is a

[00:42:08] boat to become law that bands cities and counties for making any rules preventing someone from

[00:42:13] carrying a knife outside of courthouses and police stations or create attacks for selling or

[00:42:17] purchasing love it I love that I live so close to Idaho though definitely yeah anyway what a great

[00:42:25] state loved to hear it and lone Canadians says some of us don't have close cropped hair we're just bald

[00:42:30] oh yeah there you go oh boy watch that yep for those on the audio I just I just flashed everybody with

[00:42:36] my bald head flashed oh that's the wrong word and there you go and dark wing Dave says folks in

[00:42:41] w a Washington are definitely behind enemy lines yes they are in it sucks California Canada

[00:42:48] you know whatever we're but when it comes down to it we are definitely all fighting the same fight

[00:42:57] I don't like using that kind of terminology but we are we're all just trying to be a little more

[00:43:01] prepared we're all trying to live a little further outside the system and we're all trying to

[00:43:06] be able to take care of ourselves even when the shit ever does hit the fan so that's our look at

[00:43:11] the stranger than fiction news this week I always love it this has been fun that this part of

[00:43:16] the show has always been a lot of fun so first sponsor we got to thank this evening before we move on

[00:43:21] to the workshop wasteland is Fortress canine my good buddy Joel Royals who has just up and moved from

[00:43:29] the very warm state of florida do some work quite a bit warmer cooler I said warmer and I still run

[00:43:38] in his operation and if you are the type of person who wants to be inspired but also told how it is

[00:43:46] give Joel listen he's got the production dog podcast he took a chance as our very first sponsor

[00:43:51] and I will be smoking a cigar with him in probably two weeks less than two weeks now so it's

[00:43:57] going to be great to see him so giving some love guys let's take a quick look back at the comments

[00:44:01] before we slide into workshop wasteland Mitch says 32 years in Washington was enough for me I move to

[00:44:07] Wisconsin well there is a really nice looking house for $1.1 million that you could use and

[00:44:12] Byron Robert sums it up completely I really should have said that we all just want to be happy

[00:44:17] and left alone and for those out there who aren't familiar with the non-aggression principle that's

[00:44:23] really the simplest form of interaction with one another quite often folks have heard the term

[00:44:30] anarchy and they think anarchy is a collapse in civilization well that has become the popular

[00:44:35] definition of it but truly anarchy means without ruler doesn't mean that there won't be rules

[00:44:43] but everything is going to be everybody is going to be allowed to make their choice everything

[00:44:49] is voluntary so what is the non-aggression principle it is balanced down boiled down to don't hurt me

[00:44:57] and don't take my shit if you don't do that we don't have a problem because whatever you do on

[00:45:01] your side of the fence doesn't affect me whatsoever so have a nice day and in the words Byron

[00:45:06] Roberts it is we all want to be happy and left alone there you go pretty hard to be happy when

[00:45:11] people are stealing your shit and hurting you but other than that your happiness is up to you

[00:45:17] there you go all right so moving right oh my god

[00:45:21] they're all dead everyone you're not on a dead work and I'm glad and I'm glad to see that

[00:45:25] all you talk you talk about coming up next workshop workshop waste land so we have this week

[00:45:33] just a couple of little things in the workshop waste land and for those who wonder what the

[00:45:37] workshop waste land happens to be well it's really just a quick look at popular culture in dystopian

[00:45:43] and post-apocalyptic fiction movies audiobooks maybe even some music at some point or another

[00:45:51] so I hope you enjoy this but one of the greatest okay I need to back up this is from giantfreaking

[00:45:57] robot.com they're one of my favorite sites for post-apocalyptic pop culture news I don't necessarily

[00:46:04] agree with them on their title but if you are a George A. Romero fan the greatest zombie movie ever

[00:46:10] gets theatrical return for anniversary it's a move sure to thrill horror aficionados

[00:46:17] George A. Romero's seminal zombie film dawn of the dead gets a re-release to commemorate the

[00:46:22] 45th anniversary of the film it'd be an awfully fun film to see in theaters I put it at that

[00:46:30] since the theatrical re-release will be for only a limited time only and will occur occur

[00:46:35] in 90 theaters and drive-ins across the US and Canada I would love to see this in a drive-in

[00:46:40] that would be a lot of fun I've yet in my life to ever go to a drive-in and I would love to at

[00:46:47] some point and Kristixen says watch panic in year zero again the other day wifey was not impressed

[00:46:54] with it interesting Becky actually really liked that film I man I think that film of all my

[00:47:02] recommendations for classic post-apocalyptic I would think that would be one of the most

[00:47:06] approachable films on the list but I'm just gonna put it out there that if folks aren't used to

[00:47:11] black and white 1950 style acting then you might not dig it but yeah I like that one for sure

[00:47:18] tell your wife well don't blame me you actually you can because I'm not there it's better blame me

[00:47:22] than you right Chris so anyway if you're into zombie films a classic is definitely coming back

[00:47:30] so I decided since I put together a list of four last week and folks keep asking for it

[00:47:35] give you a list of four more films that I've enjoyed over the years post-apocalyptic this is going

[00:47:39] to span the 70s and the early 80s there's not a lot there were some I've never actually seen

[00:47:46] soilant green only bits and pieces so I couldn't recommend that for you and plan to the apes

[00:47:54] it's a great it's a good film I don't love the original like a lot of people do but I didn't see

[00:47:58] it till many years after it came out of course but my first choice from 1978 is invasion of

[00:48:04] body snatchers it's got a fairly young Donald Sutherland in it and it is just absolute classic

[00:48:12] horror it's one of those don't fall asleep stories and it has been remade on three or four different

[00:48:19] occasions if you've never taken the time to go back and watch the original invasion of the body

[00:48:24] snatchers it is most definitely an end of the world style movie but do yourself a favor well

[00:48:31] again it is 70s horror so you've got to take it with a grain of salt interpret it with the time

[00:48:39] because things in the 70s the movies they definitely had a different cadence to them they would

[00:48:43] build slowly take their time things were off-putting I guess but I love it back in I watched it

[00:48:51] a couple of years back again and it's definitely my favorite of all the different invasion films

[00:48:57] invasion of the body snatchers so that's one number two mad max from 1979 this is one I need to go

[00:49:04] back and rewatch because it's been a lot of years since I watched it and I was pretty young when I did

[00:49:10] maybe 2021 and I don't know if I completely appreciated it for what it was because it's almost

[00:49:16] become a meme in the culture just some of the you know they and the leather and the football gear

[00:49:24] post-apocalyptic bikers they've all become tropes they they were well fleshed out in the 1980s

[00:49:30] but definitely a good film a very very young still very much australian male gibson

[00:49:36] and it has spawned off into many many different sequels including mad max fury road which I loved

[00:49:44] and later on this year is a prequel to it called uh feroza

[00:49:52] kid can't pronounce it for you but basically the main the the character that

[00:49:57] surely is there on played in fury road is getting a prequel so it looks like it should be pretty good

[00:50:04] and it's great to see Tori the mom in here this evening and Chris Dixon says don't be sensed

[00:50:09] desensitized go in with a fresh mind yes sir that's exactly what I agree with so we had

[00:50:15] invasion of the body snatchers from 78 mad max from 79 and then two of the darkest films on my list

[00:50:22] from the early to mid 80s both made for tv films i don't know how either of these were actually put

[00:50:28] on public tv but here you go the day after this was a movie from the us made for tv i believe

[00:50:37] me i don't know cbs or pbs that put it on at the time the effects of a devastating nuclear holocaust

[00:50:44] on a small town residence of eastern cansis no real big names in the movie otherwise there's a young

[00:50:50] steve gootenberg who goes on to police academy fame later on that's i guess a recognizable name

[00:50:57] but it is a dark and dingy film that deals with i guess what was expected in something like that

[00:51:07] so again if you want a dark and dirty version of what would happen if a nuclear bomb was dropped

[00:51:17] in a small town cansis which is kind of funny because there's some similarities to the jiriko

[00:51:22] storyline small town cansis but i digress so if you want to watch it be warned there's no happy ending

[00:51:29] in this it's very realistic it must have scared the shitter to people when it premiered 42 year

[00:51:35] i can't believe can anyone else believe that 1983 is 42 years ago and just when you thought

[00:51:41] that the movies couldn't get any darker the day after a tv movie from 1984 was only topped by yet

[00:51:48] another made for tv movie from 1984 the british counterpart this was kind of like you guys remember when

[00:51:54] ants in bugs life came out or armageddon were deep impact two movies being worked on separately really

[00:52:03] didn't know the same kind of themes this is what happened with threads and the day after this one here

[00:52:10] the effects of a nuclear holocaust on the working class city of sheffield england in the eventual

[00:52:15] long term effects of nuclear war on civilization so this one basically follows a small town emergency

[00:52:24] management group who goes underground to watch i basically to react to the nuclear follow the nuclear

[00:52:33] bomb and it is right there the most terrifying portrayal of a nuclear war ever put on film and it is

[00:52:40] this is the worst this is this one has the longest time frame it is an epic in the truest sense so

[00:52:47] epic basically means a story told over many years basically so if you've never seen threads

[00:52:54] watch it i mean hang on only watch it if you've got a strong stomach for things that aren't the

[00:53:02] happiest in the world whatsoever so my four picks for this week and i think what i'm going to do

[00:53:08] is i'm going to give you four picks a week until i run through my entire list and then i'll go back

[00:53:14] and each week we'll do a deeper dive into one of the films so so it'll fit into this kind of five

[00:53:19] minute workshop wasteland segment so i hope you enjoy it all right let's take a quick look back at

[00:53:24] the comments here christixen says mad max is great with spand in spanish with subtitles don't ask me how

[00:53:31] i know well fury road was actually re-released in a black and white uh kind of addition which was

[00:53:38] very similar to the mist so i would love to see it in black and white but maybe not with spanish

[00:53:44] subtitles barren robert loves mad max in the roadwire lone canadian says i got jareko on dvd i

[00:53:49] need to go back and watch it again i actually think i'm going to go back air start going i like going

[00:53:57] to a lot of the thrift stores i think i'm going to start putting together a bit of a dvd kind of

[00:54:02] collection just one of those things you know i could put a bunch on a usb and that sort of thing but

[00:54:07] there's something nice about having some sort of physical media anyhow and tori the mom says

[00:54:12] the resident evil series is my favorite apocalyptic series yes i do like them i like the early ones

[00:54:18] a little bit better always had a thing for me la jovo bitch bat even back in me and the girls watched

[00:54:25] days to confuse recently that was one of them might have been her very first film but

[00:54:29] yes she is great in the resident evil films and they are good i don't mind them at all

[00:54:34] my favorite i don't know if you could put me on a spot to pick one but

[00:54:39] 28 days later and the dawn of the dead remake are probably two of my favorite for sure

[00:54:44] and good evening to gunfighter concealment someone who is forever commenting on the

[00:54:50] polls that we have on youtube and i really appreciate it you guys

[00:54:57] all i can do is show up and put out all this quality content and the fact that you guys listen to me

[00:55:02] and take some time and really interact as a community just makes my day so gunfighter for sure

[00:55:07] thank you for doing that and all your other folks out there too thanks for taking the time we've had

[00:55:11] some of these survey surveys slash kind of interaction things we've had over 200 folks who have

[00:55:18] taken the time to fill them out so gunfighter says he comments for the algorithm i know you do

[00:55:23] but you also provide value for it so thank you very very much and clerk deacon says my wife can't

[00:55:30] watch anything even remotely intense so i haven't watched anything scary in five years i'm sorry

[00:55:35] about that my brother lost the same way and torre the mom says black summer is decent too

[00:55:42] that was a what was that show project z z something it was a spinoff of that and i've never really

[00:55:50] watched it but i would like to see it at some point so clerk deacon says build it and they will

[00:55:55] come to him yes yes they will i appreciate thank you brother all right so that was the end of workshop

[00:56:02] wasteland and so next we stand the back and you keep your gun you keep your gun handy our country is

[00:56:09] still a country of stealing from our grieving murder hatred get ready get ready i read it i read it on

[00:56:15] the internet all right so this one we have for those who don't know the weekly segment called

[00:56:22] i read it on the internet is where we take a look at our preppers which is a great system a great

[00:56:29] kind of forum like i said reddit has its issues but man there is some top notch content of folks

[00:56:35] sharing things over there so let's dive into that and bethemley also says yes we will when you

[00:56:41] build it they will come thank you guys i really appreciate it and uh christiksson says i love

[00:56:47] that line with the smile thieving lying patriots ain't that the truth that comes from for those who

[00:56:54] don't know panicking year zero and probably my favorite classic apocalyptic film so if you get a

[00:56:59] chance watch it and we will definitely get these damn echoes worked out at some point i'm not going

[00:57:03] to talk about a lot tonight i have done all the testing i can and everything works perfect until i go

[00:57:09] live with i don't know i don't know why thursday is doing it but we'll figure it out so this week

[00:57:16] over on our preppers posted by flashy improvement five i love the names they come up with my shit

[00:57:24] hits the fan scenario was becoming homeless this is a sad story i'll warn you ahead of time most times

[00:57:30] of the reddit stuff i'm again don't think it's my story because it isn't but i'm just going to share

[00:57:35] the whole story it's not that long it's just long enough that you need context so bear with me

[00:57:40] but my s h t f was being homeless my hubby and i both worked at ups and had a small had small businesses

[00:57:48] so to start with that that's decent paying jobs and they were doing everything right they'd also

[00:57:53] built small businesses then my hubby gets sick and he closed his business he was denied disability by

[00:57:59] ups one month after he was fired for not going into work he lost the ability to walk my hubby got sick

[00:58:06] and he was denied disability i closed my business at a loss to take care of him while i while still

[00:58:13] working full-time after three years he died i had to take bankruptcy on all his outstanding bills

[00:58:19] my health was getting bad too i was in constant pain i thought it all related to the stress of

[00:58:24] taking care of my husband but it turned out to be a mix of colon and back issues again we're all

[00:58:30] gonna get older when when we stopped getting older we've broke the number one rule of preparedness now

[00:58:35] haven't we i was a lifelong prepper but many of my prepists were in storage due to taking care of my

[00:58:41] hubby and having to move i bought a sleeping bag at a thrift store i was already using kerosene heat

[00:58:47] because i couldn't afford a new furnace i had off-grid lights to some degree when i went on to short

[00:58:52] term disability i moved into a 1967 mobile home in an old trailer park the roof leaks leaked but

[00:58:58] beggars can't be choosers i lost my disability claim had no money for four months i was able to cook

[00:59:04] on my kerosene heater in the winter and on my propane stove in the summer friends would buy me fuel

[00:59:08] i lived off my deep pantry for four months straight i baked bread every other day and i ate fairly

[00:59:15] well after four months i got food stamps but that was it in the summer it was too hot to stay in the

[00:59:20] mobile home i just used it for storage mainly i made a bed out between two trees and slap outside

[00:59:26] so i could keep watch on the mobile home now before i go on this is the type of scenario honestly that

[00:59:34] we all prep for but sometimes life just jumps up and hitches in the face with the tube before

[00:59:39] harder than you'd expect and this poor woman sounds like she did everything she could write and

[00:59:43] shit still went sideways but she had built some resiliency into her life she had community she had

[00:59:49] friends who were willing to help her and she wasn't afraid to suffer and struggle just a little bit

[00:59:56] after about 18 months of squatting it just gets worse and worse the trailer park took me to court

[01:00:01] to evict me and condemned the mobile home at that time an old friend heard about my homelessness

[01:00:06] and offered a coach for me to move on i finally had surgery on one of my vertebrae and my left foot

[01:00:11] i now live full-time in a 2001 RV in the back of my friend's property that sounds ideal for a lot of

[01:00:17] preppers i really love that i now live full-time in a 21 2001 RV i still prep but i'm much smarter

[01:00:25] about things and i personally only get what i need or buy what i learned here's some of the her

[01:00:31] tips and i think these are awesome i okay i would love to sit down to go sometime maybe an

[01:00:40] eminent or something i don't want this to come across as disingenuous though so i don't know if

[01:00:45] i would actually record it or if i would just sit down a chat but i really would enjoy the opportunity

[01:00:50] to sit down with some homeless folks and just talk about what they do to get by because i think it's

[01:00:56] one of those things that we just don't have a friggin clue about you know when i've always been

[01:01:01] interested in like the you know the hobos from the thirties i know it's become romanticized and stuff

[01:01:06] but just the ingenuity of it and you know the old symbols they used to use and their ability to cook

[01:01:11] and stay warm and layer up and they're just i think that anyway as awful as what they've been put

[01:01:18] through they have learned some incredible lessons and i would love to sit down and just share them

[01:01:24] from them get some of their experience i guess so i don't know i don't even know if i ever will do it

[01:01:30] but the only way i would do it is if i could do it without it coming across as you know for

[01:01:34] cloak or for clicks or something and i don't know how to do that but i would love to i'd love to

[01:01:39] interview someone like at some point um so what i learned what she learned of course uh a

[01:01:46] caught is invaluable it really helps the comfort level a good sleeping bag will literally save your life

[01:01:52] water cannot be emphasized enough i constantly felt dirty and smelly with my back issues i couldn't

[01:01:57] carry large amounts of water i should have had a bank of water stashed but i didn't lesson learned

[01:02:02] i now have a stack of four gallon containers of water manual pump and a rechargeable pump

[01:02:08] i love hearing that she also has a folding dry sink and a folding bucket to carry water

[01:02:13] i picked up one of those folding buckets off a team you i thought it was going to be an absolute

[01:02:17] piece of shit and the thing was awesome i love it i i don't use it a ton right now it's holding

[01:02:23] kind of electronic stuff out in my garage but the things held up really good

[01:02:28] sanitation wasn't that big of a deal with the bucket toilet i had access to a dumpster so i just

[01:02:33] dumped it fairly often as a female the liquid was the issue but i tried to pee as much as possible down

[01:02:38] the bathtub again sucks but i like hearing that the urine adds a lot of weight to the bucket females

[01:02:45] really need a urine diverting toilet seat males just need a urinal i now have several female

[01:02:49] urinals in a much better bucket system i didn't have an emergency radio the quiet will drive you

[01:02:55] crazy especially if you're used to noise i worked in airport in an office space it was always busy

[01:03:01] no joke you start hearing things i couldn't sleep for the silence not the same thing but when i travel

[01:03:06] i take a portable white noise machine and i love it it allows me to blank out the noise

[01:03:12] in when i'm tenting or also in hotel rooms so we used to go to hotel rooms and you never know what

[01:03:18] the fan was going to be like this definitely helps with the tinnitus and the ringing in the years

[01:03:23] lights another thing lights make you feel human the dark is very long and silent i had outside

[01:03:28] solar lights i brought inside but they didn't last long entertainment was non-existent without

[01:03:33] power i couldn't read e-books without lights i couldn't read paper books i was screwed for

[01:03:38] entertainment and my deck of cards only worked in daylight oh i could still knit and crochet and

[01:03:43] stuff with my back issues i spent most of my time flat on my back saving my energy for cooking

[01:03:47] and simple survival i honestly thought i would die of boredom having a way to cook off grid is

[01:03:53] paramount you need at least two ways three of possible but i was living in a trailer park where they

[01:03:57] had outlite grills and open fires i had to cook inside and hide the flames it was such a fire risk so

[01:04:02] plan ahead have your cooking gear and fire skills ready okay wow wouldn't incredible resilient lady

[01:04:11] who went through her husband getting sick her husband passing away losing businesses losing jobs

[01:04:18] her health deteriorating losing all the money she had living in in squalor and then eventually

[01:04:24] getting evicted even from that and relying on the help from community and just her sheer will of

[01:04:31] survival you know kudos to her she i can't imagine she obviously didn't enjoy herself even one bit

[01:04:38] but what an incredible lady to go through that and that to me is just one of those things that i

[01:04:44] love to be able to hear from folks and you know it's sad that people have to go through it

[01:04:50] but maybe their experience will help someone else who ends up having troubles just like that so

[01:04:56] there you go all right what do we got next for you uh uh right and for those who don't know

[01:05:02] for those following playing the game at home all the links to all of these articles are in the show

[01:05:09] notes tonight so there you go all right next is sunshine news and we have got right there bring it

[01:05:17] up for you give me one second and we will switch over to willow hello and welcome to today's sunshine

[01:05:24] prepper news i'm willow the sunshine prepper here to spread a bit of positivity on the unavoidable doom and

[01:05:30] gloom i've got two stories for you on the menu today we've got observations about Boeing the quality

[01:05:36] of their planes and the suspicious death of a former employee turned whistleblower and then some

[01:05:41] curious updates about the availability of police officers in a city that is hopefully not near you

[01:05:46] before we get into the gloom please join me for five seconds of incredibly awkward laughter that

[01:05:51] hopefully helps invoke your real laughter all right maybe i'll make a video on the benefits of

[01:06:00] laughter leave a comment below if that's something you're interested in but suffice to say laughter

[01:06:04] is really medicine and a great way to combat the gloom all right so first up we've got Boeing and

[01:06:10] they are showing that they are going off the rails a bit there have been quite a few mishaps and

[01:06:17] it's finally drawing attention and investigation a quick summary of some of the unusual events that

[01:06:22] have occurred a seven eighty seven dreamliner experience a sudden plunge mid flight throwing people

[01:06:27] around the cabin which might not sound like much but like they were tossed around a few people hit

[01:06:32] the ceiling thrown across several rows no one died but a few received some not so minor injuries

[01:06:39] most of them weren't so bad and then door blew off another Boeing was a 737 max nine left a gaping

[01:06:45] hole in the side of the plane and rip the headrest off the seats shortly after taking off from

[01:06:50] Portland the flight crew described the blowout as a very violent explosive event when it occurred

[01:06:56] there are 177 people on that flight i cannot imagine how terrifying how absolutely horrifying that was

[01:07:03] a good day to be wearing your brown pants and then another 737 also coming out of Portland was

[01:07:09] forced to make an emergency landing due to fumes in the cabin and then a tire fell off another

[01:07:16] Boeing plane after it took off from San Francisco destroying at least one car in the long-term parking

[01:07:21] garage and then engine fire forced another Boeing to make an emergency landing in Houston, Texas

[01:07:28] after takeoff now i don't know who failed all the quality control checks on all the others but

[01:07:33] apparently for that one according to united airlines the engine ingested some plastic bubble wrap

[01:07:39] that was on the airfield prior to departure

[01:07:44] to top all that off with Boeing an honorable man a former employee who reported safety problems

[01:07:50] at Boeing and who was actively involved in providing evidence in a whistleblower loss who

[01:07:54] against them died on Saturday from an apparent self-inflicted wound according to a corner in South

[01:08:02] Carolina they found him dead in his car in a parking lot that's not incredibly fishy timing at all

[01:08:08] nothing to see here well that wraps up Boeing so i wanted to touch on this other story real quick

[01:08:14] because what really gets to be concerning is what happens next will the spread hopefully not to

[01:08:20] a city near you so wake up world it's 2024 and right now in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the police

[01:08:26] department announced they're not responding to calls that are not emergencies that are not

[01:08:32] actively happening instead these calls will be routed to an enhanced telephone reporting unit

[01:08:38] and if that wasn't gloomy enough between 3am and 7am no officers will be at any of the stations

[01:08:46] and during the night shift they're gonna have as few as 20 officers watching over the whole city

[01:08:51] depending on shifts and for some reason they also thought it was a brilliant idea to broadcast this

[01:08:58] it's like saying hey criminals you're easiest hours of operation are now 3 to 7am well time for

[01:09:06] five more seconds and laughter to shake off the impending danger of defunding police while

[01:09:11] apologizing and making ceases for criminals

[01:09:19] okay so what can you do about all of this? well don't have sudden paranoia about flying while

[01:09:25] it is huge in the news the percentage of people actually dying from flying is incredibly low

[01:09:30] and if you haven't started exercising your two-way rights today is the PSA that sometimes help

[01:09:37] is minutes away when seconds matter so yeah especially if you're in Pittsburgh you're on your

[01:09:44] own from 3am to 7am so please equip yourself if you haven't yet thank you so much for tuning in

[01:09:51] this week sunshine prepper out willows incredible guys for those who don't know willow is our roving

[01:09:59] reporter that is she comes in with her own little dose of sunshine she shares a couple of doom and

[01:10:07] gloom news stories with her copyright chipper demeanor she's awesome I love what she brings she

[01:10:14] is committed to getting us a content every week for three months it I have definitely enjoyed

[01:10:20] what she brings now about the Boeing situation what in the world is going on there folks I have no idea

[01:10:28] it's a mess I'm not saying I wouldn't get on a Boeing plane but my god to have that many issues

[01:10:34] and then something happened to their you know I don't know the whistleblower gone just like that right so

[01:10:41] there you go what a crazy situation I don't know what else to say about it but the Pittsburgh police

[01:10:48] scenario is 10 times worse in my mind when I was in Tennessee last time I went through fast

[01:10:58] a fast food place I went up to the window or to the the order speaker and I realized

[01:11:04] huh that does not sound like a real person and then I looked down a little bit further and it says

[01:11:12] you are your orders being taken by artificial intelligence thought well now they didn't do a

[01:11:18] horrible job let me put it that way but it was not super accurate that's what I'm saying I'm not sure

[01:11:26] I love the idea of hey this isn't really an emergency or this isn't emergency but nobody's there so

[01:11:33] we're gonna put you through to an automated phone answering system this shit just doesn't fly with

[01:11:37] me folks anyway willow does a great job if you haven't followed yet guys do me a favor and do

[01:11:43] that she is let's bring her back up here real quick so you can see her channel one more time

[01:11:47] so she's at seven so she started brand new I would say what what has she done maybe five or six

[01:11:53] segments for us I think this might be seven now she's up to 71 subscribers she really needs to be

[01:11:58] up to 100 so sunshine prepper I believe her at symbol is sunshine prepper TN for Tennessee

[01:12:05] but her stuff is awesome I didn't get her link into the show notes tonight but it will be but

[01:12:10] just give her a search and give her a follow because she's awesome all right what segment do we have

[01:12:15] next oh actually let me go back here right quick because there is Rachel C says hey Tim did your

[01:12:21] girls ever watch the big comfy coach willow reminds me of lunette in the best way what a wonderful

[01:12:27] memory she brings back so I'm 43 I used to watch the big comfy coach just a little bit and my sister

[01:12:35] definitely watched it a bunch and you were 100% correct she is definitely who definitely

[01:12:43] reminds me of the lunette from the big comfy coach now anybody out there I don't know if that was

[01:12:49] an American show as well I think it might have just been Canadian but she definitely has an

[01:12:53] infectious joyness about her that's for sure hey Rachel Brown good to have you and gun fighter

[01:12:58] concealment said in my opinion this is what happens when a company bowing hires people for their

[01:13:03] wokeness not hiring for the talent could be 100% true I don't know enough about this situation but

[01:13:09] I will agree with you that when folks aren't hired by merit they're hired by some other

[01:13:16] less than objective reality that's when we have problems so there you go all right next we have

[01:13:22] a quick look at this week in the workshop holy shit this week in the workshop has been a busy

[01:13:29] week in the workshop as Clark Deacon saw today when he stopped by it was great to see him

[01:13:34] sitting off with a few patches and we did take a picture I all posted and telegram later but

[01:13:38] I got thinking I'm pretty sure that is the fifth visit I have had at home from delinquents and

[01:13:48] from the delinquent from the workshop community and it's great most times it's just been

[01:13:52] Jeff and Sandy and their daughters came all as once and then every other time it's just been

[01:13:56] a single person but it's awesome I love I love meeting up in real life and I also how exciting it is

[01:14:03] that we're actually building a Canadian community up here because when I first started

[01:14:08] and it's still this way you gotta know 80 to 90% of actually no it's down to like 75 to 80% of the

[01:14:14] folks that follow my stuff are from the US however we're getting a bigger number of us canuck

[01:14:20] stands up here whether we love the country or hate it this is the cross that we have to bear so

[01:14:25] it's good to have you Rachel C says I just realized I'm an I'm old 39 in my little sister love the

[01:14:32] show and Rachel Brown says I heard about big comfy coach and I'm in PA cool all right so let's

[01:14:38] bust through the few things I did this week both for inspiration and accountability number one

[01:14:44] I got my new truck outfit it with all the gear that was a big one I like I said I ended up

[01:14:50] running into some trouble I didn't actually have any problems but I just felt absolutely

[01:14:56] unprepared to travel in that truck without my gear so I made a few changes but it's all outfitted

[01:15:01] and yeah I'm definitely happy when it's my brother laws garage the other night he installed this

[01:15:06] slow open tailgate for me so that I don't just let the damn thing go and smack down like I did I got

[01:15:10] a bunch of other upgrades that are coming but not until I get back from the trip we're gonna install

[01:15:15] some LED light bars couple of LED um four bulb fixtures they're going to fit down with the fog lights

[01:15:22] go and they're gonna point out to the ditches only for when I'm not when there's no traffic coming

[01:15:27] toward me because we have a ton of deer out here what else I've been fighting with Google merchant

[01:15:32] services I've been trying to get my merch store link to YouTube and I think I'm finally making some

[01:15:37] headway I sent an email to Google YouTube whatever and they actually get back to me and they outline

[01:15:43] exactly what needed to be changed it turned out that I had some templated text in my return and

[01:15:49] shipping profile pages that I didn't eliminate where it says insert address here and I didn't

[01:15:55] actually insert my address so they that look fishy to them so that's been fixed all right what next

[01:16:02] oh yeah I'm probably gonna do a little review video on this but I keep a shovel in the back seat of

[01:16:08] my car just a small folding one and for a couple years I'd used a winter snow shovel I got from Costco

[01:16:14] but when it was folded up it was still 18 inches long so I picked up a nice off road shovel

[01:16:20] from Harbor Freight in the States when it's packed up it's only about six inches so that

[01:16:26] replaced it that's actually quite a bit smaller but stirred here so I'm looking forward to

[01:16:30] testing that out a little bit as well we dealt with the flood at the daycare I don't want to go into

[01:16:35] all the details but holy shit insurance can be such a friggin racket so short short story here

[01:16:42] but last Friday we had some rainwater not rainwater snow melt that went into the basement of the daycare

[01:16:49] it affected some of the laminate floor we called the insurance company they said yep we're

[01:16:54] gonna send out a reclamation company right away he'll take an estimate they'll tear it up and then

[01:16:58] we'll start working on it so they send the guy out he's immediately followed by a reclamation

[01:17:04] company who cleans it all up cleans up half of it leaves the gear behind then they send out

[01:17:10] another insurance person to let us know oh you're not covered and you're gonna have to pay for

[01:17:13] all that reclamation yourself even though the insurance company hired them so we're in a big fight

[01:17:19] with them because we're pretty sure we should have coverage for that and if we didn't we sure a

[01:17:24] shit never would have hired a company out of Edmonton that's going to charge us $10,000 to haul up

[01:17:28] 100 square feet of laminate floor and leave behind two fans so there you go ask me what I think about

[01:17:34] my insurance company right at the moment Monday is our inspection at the daycare Becky was up there

[01:17:39] today and my brother and law sister and law they were working their asses off while I was down here

[01:17:42] to deal with that old rotten bathroom I'm working on so they're ready they are absolutely ready for

[01:17:47] Monday's inspection I'm excited that's the one folks I know you've heard me talk about frigging

[01:17:52] inspection since the cows come home but this is the one this is the inspection it brings us the

[01:17:56] license which brings in the money which opens the daycare which oh it's awesome there you go I've

[01:18:02] been working on that bathroom reno like crazy over at the rental it needs to be done well it needs

[01:18:09] to be done by Monday because I'm leaving Tuesday morning early to go on what's actually shaped up to

[01:18:15] be an eight week road trip I did the math and I think it's going to be 56 days that's a little long but

[01:18:21] it's going to be worth it so there you go but the bathroom reno is coming slowly but shortly I think

[01:18:25] I'll be done tomorrow I just need to plum in the water supply lines for the shower and then hang

[01:18:31] a shower surround it's not going to be perfect but I'm excited Rachel Brown says go Becky go I agree

[01:18:38] that woman is a hard work in son of a bitch and I love her to death what do we got I've been prepping

[01:18:43] my presentations I set a goal starting last week that one hour every morning I would come down here

[01:18:49] and I would brainstorm or I would write and I've actually had made really good headway it's funny

[01:18:55] because I've had a month to prepare these presentations but again the urgency I needed the urgency

[01:19:00] to really get at it and this one hour a day I completely revamped or I'd say 25% revamped my poverty

[01:19:08] mindset presentation that's for Kentucky sustainable living and I have a brand new presentation

[01:19:13] that I'll be doing a versions of itself alliance festival and living free in Tennessee

[01:19:18] and that's basically called failure is not an option and I'm really pleased with how that's coming

[01:19:23] together but I would say I don't know I think Nicole said it takes about 20 hours to put together

[01:19:30] a decent presentation and I would say that that's about what it is for me as well so I love spending

[01:19:35] the time I love creating something like that from scratch so there you go what else we got

[01:19:42] a packaged up Becky and I bought some Canadian junk silver we shined it up put it in little holders

[01:19:47] and I'm going to be bringing it to the events I'll be selling selling it um where it's Canadian

[01:19:53] down in the States hopefully it'll command a light premium or at least by the time I bought it the

[01:19:58] price will have gone up but I'll also be looking to trade add events so I will have a good little bit

[01:20:04] of Canadian silver to offload at these events uh vacsields from emergency kits uh socks underwear

[01:20:11] and all of the toiletries I want to talk about this for a minute so we have always had emergency kits

[01:20:17] well not always but for the last five years basically what we call this is an awful term but our drop

[01:20:23] dead emergency kit this is we're out somewhere we can't get back to the house for our grab and go bags

[01:20:30] and we have to survive out of our vehicle for you know we used to be two or three days now we've

[01:20:34] got a setup for a week so what we put in there is all the toiletries we got deodorant we have some

[01:20:40] hotel shampoo so it's smaller bar or soap some q-tips toothbrush toothpaste a week's worth of

[01:20:46] prescriptions for all of them and two pairs underwear two pairs of socks for me Becky and the girls

[01:20:52] so it been about three years since we went through it we went back through because I moved it over to a

[01:20:57] new vehicle we always had it in big zip lock bags we switched it up to vacuum sealed chamber vacuum

[01:21:04] sealed bags takes up a lot less space we're able to get a little more stuff in there we realized the

[01:21:08] girls have grown a lot in three years so it's a good thing we went over it prescription wise was

[01:21:13] pretty close we had to add a couple of pills here take a couple away there but other than that

[01:21:18] yeah so it's all set now the reason I say this is about an hour before I went live tonight

[01:21:25] I get one of those dreaded text messages that I hate it's from dead and everything's okay just so

[01:21:30] you know but it says hey give me a call right away okay he says hey mum's in the hospital she's okay

[01:21:37] but she's been having stomach problems for a few months now and finally they have a really

[01:21:42] shitty medical system in Nova Scotia it's really really bad guys she couldn't get to a doctor she

[01:21:47] finally got to a doctor a nurse practitioner said you've got gallbladder problems and so she had

[01:21:54] us a call stone I guess they call it so they rushed her to the armoth which was an hour away and

[01:21:59] she's going to have hopefully orthoscopic surgery and be home tomorrow it all goes well however

[01:22:05] the first thing dad mentioned to me was he they left in a hurry and didn't have any preparations ready

[01:22:11] for them so he's down there he had to go out and he had to buy some stuff tonight he needed the

[01:22:15] phone charger and I just I just felt bad that's all um so I'm gonna try to put together maybe a little

[01:22:21] kit for him and send it out because that kind of shit you know you just most people don't even think

[01:22:26] about what would happen you know your wife or your husband goes to the doctor and they're like you

[01:22:30] need to have surgery right now you need to leave well you don't normally have time you know

[01:22:35] the night when I mean we weren't prepared when Becky went into early labor with a twins at what

[01:22:40] 31 or 32 weeks we left from home and about eight hours later we had gone through three hospitals

[01:22:47] and we were two and a half hours from home at that point so you just you don't ever know so

[01:22:52] just a absolute bare bones hey I could live out of the car I could sleep in underground parking I could

[01:22:59] hang out at a hospital for two or three or four days because the reason we picked a week was

[01:23:04] we figured at least within a week we're gonna be able to fill our prescriptions if it's an emergency

[01:23:10] hopefully and we're going to be able to get hold of some more supplies but you know if it's three

[01:23:14] four days of a really shitty situation having a kit like that goes a long way guys we had adventures

[01:23:22] in property management this week we had one furnace completely die never had it happen before

[01:23:27] yet since I've been doing property management but they wanted to check on it the heat chamber had

[01:23:32] cracked and it was slowly releasing a bit of carbon carbon monoxide into the house not enough to set

[01:23:38] off the alarm yet but enough for the guy to notice it down in the room when he went in with the

[01:23:43] sensor so they shut the furnace off and the tenants were only two days without heat rods heating

[01:23:50] and plumbing and heating take great care of me the homeowner that I look after they had to come

[01:23:55] up with $6,000 to replace the furnace so if you do ever get into property management make sure you

[01:24:02] keep yourself a little slush fund because things get really tight for them and it shouldn't have

[01:24:05] been nearly that bad so anyway they took care of it done done there you go just picked up a

[01:24:11] couple of new power stack batteries I don't know if you ever saw my original review on those tiny

[01:24:16] duolped power stacks I love that battery and I completely lost it last May doing renovations

[01:24:23] at our trailer that is now rented I'm guessing it's in the wall somewhere but it's never reappeared

[01:24:28] don't know what happened don't know where it went so it was time to get some new ones because

[01:24:32] those are my go-tos for all the small stuff haven't tried the five amp hour reviews on them have been

[01:24:37] mixed but I definitely like the the 1.7 amp hour batteries they are the perfect weight to power ratio

[01:24:44] I think and finally like I mentioned Clark stopped by if you don't know who Clark is you can meet him

[01:24:50] in the telegram group but he is you know barely in his mid 20s married owns a house has a business

[01:24:56] has kids the dude has got it going on he has kick and ask and take a names and if you want

[01:25:02] some tips or just some inspiration on how to build self-reliance in your in your life just just look

[01:25:08] at Clark for a minute and I'm sure he'll give you some advice so there you go all right what do we

[01:25:12] get next real quick I think I'm gonna have to rename this segment finding freedom I love it but

[01:25:18] it's turning into a meme segment and I love memes and these are inspirational memes but maybe we

[01:25:25] need to come up with a better name for it so you let me know but here is the first one for this

[01:25:29] week and this came out of a conversation we had in the telegram group with my brother Chris Dixon

[01:25:33] and a few others but it says be decisive right or wrong make a decision the road of life is paved

[01:25:41] with flat squirrels who couldn't make a decision true story we talked about this on telegram last

[01:25:48] week but here it is no matter what you do you're gonna question what you do it doesn't mean you're

[01:25:54] gonna regret it but whether you have good good success or not such good success you're always

[01:26:00] gonna look back and wonder I wonder if I could have done this or could have done that but I can

[01:26:04] promise you one thing and one thing alone that the only way to guarantee that you'll never make

[01:26:10] progress is to stand in the same spot and you'll end up paving the road with all the other bodies

[01:26:15] of dead squirrels out there I love this you know I've always said that clichés are clichés because

[01:26:21] they're truths that have just been repeated long enough that they start to lose their meaning

[01:26:25] but it doesn't make them any less true and be decisive right or wrong make a decision

[01:26:30] amen love it great one let's move on to the other meme of this week for finding freedom

[01:26:36] and again I find a lot of these throughout the week and I'll share them in the telegram group

[01:26:40] and I want to share them to everybody else but it's the idea behind them it's the concept again

[01:26:44] here it is you ready start a business thousand bucks oh that's too much buy a new iPhone thousand bucks

[01:26:51] no problem healthy groceries hundred bucks too much dinner and dessert hundred bucks yeah why not

[01:26:58] watch Netflix two hours one more episode learn a new skill two hours no time life is about choices

[01:27:07] you're ready for this this is the the the thrust of this mean life is about choices stop blaming

[01:27:13] the lack of opportunity 110 percent you go back to last week's episode where the lady was talking

[01:27:19] about a maximum wage and how the only reason the deal on mosque and Jeff Bezos got rich is because

[01:27:23] they came to business in the mid 90s when there was tons of government subsidies for the internet

[01:27:29] well here's the deal folks there were 300 other million people in North America who didn't seize

[01:27:35] the opportunities that they did they grabbed life by the balls and they made a mint so again it's all

[01:27:41] about the small things is a thousand dollars a lot of money to invest in a business sure it is somebody

[01:27:47] will say well it's okay I finance the iPhone well if you can figure it away to get $999 on credit

[01:27:54] for some company to give you a phone a bet you can figure it away to get a thousand dollar

[01:27:58] loan to go start your business there you go in loan Canadian year 100 percent right we'll go back

[01:28:02] to the comments here no use regretting it not like you can go back and time and change it 100

[01:28:07] percent and I live life with zero regrets I always have but it doesn't mean that a person's brain

[01:28:13] on occasion isn't going to say huh wonder what happened if I did done this it's an interesting

[01:28:19] exercise but yes live life with other regrets folks because it's the only life we get and we're

[01:28:25] gonna make the choices and beat yourself up over what might have been what could have been

[01:28:29] anybody know that song by little Texas home going way back there now but what might have been

[01:28:35] yeah great song but um not somewhere you need to live nostalgia is a hell of a drug

[01:28:41] and if you want something that will help you to not pay attention to the present live in the

[01:28:47] nostalgia baby Rachel Brown says was it Jack Spirko or John Willis that said fail faster so you can

[01:28:53] move on to success it might be it sounds like something John Willis would say I know he said

[01:28:59] sleep faster but that 100 percent true I actually had a quote tonight in here that I eliminated

[01:29:05] from the show notes it was basically about that if you wanted to find a successful person find

[01:29:10] someone who has failed a ton so there you go all right uh next gotta mention self-reliance festival

[01:29:17] getting their big push to get ticket sold because the event is coming up quick so self-reliance voices

[01:29:23] learning from legends it's a free webinar series if you didn't hear about it I get way to self-sufficiency

[01:29:28] regenerative agriculture and building better lives the fact that they said learning from legends

[01:29:32] and then put my picture on it definitely doesn't do the many justice but there you go um so it's March

[01:29:38] 17th to 21st I believe I'm going to be co-em seeing a couple of evenings the whole idea is they're

[01:29:44] gonna be replaying some of the um best segments from past self-reliance festivals and we're gonna be

[01:29:50] offering commentary we're gonna be doing giveaways so check it out through a link in tonight

[01:29:56] show notes and across social media before I went live so yeah and if you do my self-reliance

[01:30:01] festival tickets please use my link because I will make a small commission off that and that help

[01:30:05] support helps keep the generator fueled up but know it honestly this is a business and you guys

[01:30:10] know that I don't need to hide anything all right next segment is the community mailbag

[01:30:17] it's the apocalypse in update the judgment day in the oil the war and my friend let's dig in

[01:30:25] let's dig in community mail-bag so first one I got this week was from Conrad Frank got it over

[01:30:33] on telegram he sent me a great suggestion for the book club I haven't read it yet hadn't even

[01:30:38] heard of it at the time but said it meant a lot to him or in the past and it was immortals by Tracy

[01:30:43] Hickman if anybody else out there is read it let me know but I'm definitely gonna download an audio

[01:30:48] book just to give it a go and listen to it because I got about 60 hours of ass time sounds funny

[01:30:55] in my dodge here coming up right away so I need some stuff to listen to so what do we get from here

[01:31:02] all right um so again if you haven't noticed I've been running polls and quizzes and interactivity

[01:31:08] things over on the youtube community page because with two reasons number one I love getting

[01:31:15] the feedback and I love getting all the comments try to respond as many as I can but also a youtube

[01:31:20] is really pushing that for engagement lately and I've enjoyed it so yeah first what I did was how

[01:31:26] many Americans consider themselves preppers had a few different answers 121 respondents

[01:31:32] 20 million people 41 percent got it right crazy 40 20 million people and then Jake from Ravenwood acres

[01:31:40] he said that's a surprising amount of preppers I agree but the better quote came from Todd

[01:31:46] and he said I know a lot of people who call themselves quote unquote preppers but they're nowhere

[01:31:51] near prepared for anything more than a barbecue at the gun range those of us that have addressed

[01:31:56] the six basic categories of preparedness food water shelter security energy and health and sanitation

[01:32:01] are few in firm between I do not disagree whatsoever I will say that folks being interested

[01:32:09] or identifying as preppers is definitely a great step in the right direction but again we need to

[01:32:15] talk them down off the ledge or we need to get them serious about it and say hey here you go all

[01:32:19] all right next one was if you could only stock one type of ammunition or one round what would it be

[01:32:27] and 18% said 22 36% said 556 and 36% said 12 gauge so basically it was one of those

[01:32:40] you know what's the perfect caliber what's the perfect ground whatever you want to call it but I

[01:32:44] was quite surprised I figured I really didn't know to be honest there were some great

[01:32:49] feedback on this so let me share with you but basically we went half and half 36% 36% said 556

[01:32:55] or 12 gauge and I know it's not realistic but it's a fun thought experiment so Robert Daly

[01:33:00] a fellow content creator from Daly Woodworks he said 12 gauge is the most versatile round it can

[01:33:05] be loaded down for rats and snakes medium for quail and other game birds magnum for ducks and ice

[01:33:11] my shoulder slugs for large game that walk by pedally he didn't put that I added that part in there

[01:33:17] out the B-man J 22 is the most used on art on the farm kills most animals without a headshot

[01:33:23] will kill anything with a headshot think of it as being only 0.003 smaller than the 223 just with

[01:33:30] less grades it's quieter to shoot takes up less room to store and it's cheaper to buy or reload

[01:33:35] I do not disagree there whatsoever I love it they you know in a lot of the the preparation books

[01:33:42] 12 gauge or 556 are the dollars and the 20 22 shells are the pennies or the scents and I like that

[01:33:51] gunfighter concealment we know you said if I stock up on shotgun ammo and I'm allowed to stock up

[01:33:56] on buckshot slugs and birdshot I would pick shotgun ammo if I could only stock up on one type of

[01:34:01] shotgun ammo then I'm going 556 I could do almost anything with those three types of shells buck

[01:34:06] shot slug and birdshot that's why I would pick shotgun so there you go if you weren't limited to

[01:34:11] just one type of shell if you could take anything from 12 gauge that would be his choice

[01:34:16] and the poll for this week or I think the most recent one or the second most have you ever had

[01:34:20] to stop an offer assistance for a vehicle accident 22% yes with no injuries 30% no I never have

[01:34:28] and 48% was yes with injuries involved I believe I've only ever had to stop and help with one accident

[01:34:36] and it was going through I believe it was Idaho when we were heading south and we went up into kind

[01:34:41] of a mountainy area hit a real nasty snowstorm a guy in a Subaru went flying by me I look over

[01:34:47] it Becky and as I look over it Becky I realized the current front of me is no longer there and he

[01:34:51] went flying in the ditch he wasn't injured but if he'd spent any time out there he certainly could have

[01:34:55] had some bad problems with the elements so we brought him in the vehicle he sat with us and yeah

[01:35:00] so this one again comes from gunfighter concealment said I witnessed a vehicle turning left at a green

[01:35:05] arrow the truck just blew right through the red light smashed into the car the guy in the truck was fine

[01:35:10] but the lady in the car had a broken arm and a laceration to her leg I took the seat belt off because

[01:35:15] the car was smoking once I realized it was not actual smoke it was just any free steaming from the

[01:35:20] engine bay I decided to leave her in the car in case she had other issues like spinal or neck

[01:35:26] we pushed the vehicle off to the side of the road I used the shears I love this this is great thank

[01:35:30] you for sharing this I used the shears I got from refuge medical to cut the pants to see the wound

[01:35:35] it wasn't too terribly bad so I put a hemostatic gauze pad on it then I wrapped it with a swap

[01:35:40] turnicate for pressure as I was doing all of this I told someone to call 911 turns out she

[01:35:46] works for the police department and I received I love I love this challenge coin from our sheriff

[01:35:51] I write this to tell everyone you will need medical before you will need a firearm get some medical

[01:35:56] training or somebody's going to die on your watch thank you for sharing that gunfighter

[01:36:04] so the other night I was sitting up I just hadn't fallen asleep yet so I was doing what I do I think

[01:36:12] I ended up on reddit I ended up down a rabbit a reddit rabbit hole that had combat footage from the

[01:36:19] Ukrainian Russian war and this one was somebody had asked looking for actual real life application

[01:36:26] of a turnicate so I was like oh this should be interesting is about a 15 minute video of this one

[01:36:31] poor Ukrainian soldier who had been shot to pieces he did survive I can't believe it but the the

[01:36:37] medic came upon him founding lying on the ground he was fairly pale and he ended up having to apply

[01:36:43] five turnicates to the dude yeah three of his appendages were aerated let's put it that way

[01:36:52] it was a mess guys and I wouldn't say we'll look at it but it definitely I don't know just give me

[01:36:58] a different perspective on that so there you go this one comes from Bob log I can never get this one

[01:37:05] Bob-Lob-Lob-Lob-Lob-Lob and that comes from arrest development I believe the name but

[01:37:11] said I got to be an instant responder once miraculously his window was down notice the truck idling

[01:37:16] across the intersection at a red light would have hit the car in front of me he appeared to be having

[01:37:21] a seizure I jumped out and ran grabbed his wheel turned him into an open lane reach my arm down

[01:37:25] push the parking brake put it into park took the keys out a nurse came over I called mine 1-1

[01:37:30] indirected traffic until paramedics came I love that thank you guys for sharing these stories

[01:37:35] because I want to pat y'all on the back for this stuff this is great I love hearing it I want to

[01:37:40] pop back over to the comments here right quick but Rachel Brown said that she guessed the number

[01:37:45] of preppers was lower than what it was which I agree and then Rachel says yes with injuries

[01:37:50] the other guy with the fire company didn't have the tools to break the glass or cut the seat belt

[01:37:54] and my kid was an EMT me just first aid in CPR well thanks for sharing that Rachel and there's all

[01:38:00] the pet emergencies you know what that's a really good point we have had I was just thinking that

[01:38:05] earlier today actually back in I were talking about some of the dogs we had over the years

[01:38:09] and I remembered when Harley went out and gotten to a fight with some coyotes and the coyotes literally

[01:38:17] attempted to bite his balls off and we again sorry for the pun but didn't have a pot to piss in so

[01:38:23] we definitely couldn't afford to take him to the vet so we cleaned him up and patched him up the

[01:38:28] best we could and he did fine but there are a lot of pet emergencies and that is a good way

[01:38:33] two things for for you or I to be a little more comfortable with first aid but to also embrace

[01:38:43] the stress just a little bit because man it sucks when you're pet second you don't want that to happen

[01:38:48] but hopefully we can learn from it and not get desensitized but just become acclimatized to it so that

[01:38:55] we know how to handle it because again remember when Ed was on the show a couple of years ago from

[01:38:59] an iridium solution he said we don't rise to the occasion we fall to our highest level of training

[01:39:04] and that is just a perfect example of why first aid is needed this one here this comes from a

[01:39:10] Janie Anders and this is regarding my interview that I did with James Wesley Rawls last year

[01:39:16] and they said thanks to Jim's book I've been prepping for 20 years buying tins while on special

[01:39:21] I'm guessing they're British if they say tins I have 10 large crates full of long-life food plus

[01:39:27] 100 kilograms of rice that's 220 pounds in freedom units folks lots of wooden water stored up

[01:39:33] buying and saving heirloom seeds and living out of my veg and herb garden the last five years

[01:39:38] I'm glad I did it because now I'm retired not much cash to spend I figure I have sufficient

[01:39:44] for perhaps a year obviously also helping family and a few friends who have not prepped back in the day

[01:39:53] the 70s when I read Atlas Shrug I knew then problems were ahead living and so with that all wow

[01:39:59] South Africa now the country's on the verge of total collapse I'd hope to move to the country but it

[01:40:04] didn't work out but I'll survive love the Patriot books I just wanted to share that because again

[01:40:09] real world scenario someone who is living better because they found a prepping fiction book 20 years ago

[01:40:16] lone Canadian asks did we save Harley's balls yes we did we didn't even need to stitch them up thank

[01:40:22] goodness but any further and it would not have been a good scenario but yeah we did he

[01:40:28] kept his manhood was fully intact poor guy Rachel Brown says pets in livestock that gets into

[01:40:34] crap is good training for wood management and monitoring infection probably shared this story before

[01:40:39] but many years ago back in I got a couple of milking goats and we again couldn't afford to trim their

[01:40:45] hoof so I went on what was a forum at the time because YouTube wasn't a thing and they said you could

[01:40:51] use like side cutting shears or something like that so that's what I did but I didn't read further

[01:40:57] down so I went out started trimming I trimmed way too deep and she started gushing blood and I thought

[01:41:03] oh my god so we went back in and we were trying to find the forum where we were

[01:41:07] scrolling through panicking eventually we discovered that cornstarch was a great

[01:41:13] coagulant so we were able to spread it on there get the blood to stop and after that

[01:41:18] I'm not even sure what we did after that but we tried not to have to do it ourselves let's put it

[01:41:22] that way all right and uh final piece of the male from the community nail bag was from Mr.

[01:41:30] Sound Chaos and this is regarding stuff from T-MU and I've had mixed results I would say overall

[01:41:38] slightly better than worse so just in case anyone is really trying to look into cheap T-MU solar

[01:41:43] panels I got a hundred and twenty watt foldable solar panel from T-MU for 80 bucks it shipped

[01:41:50] it shipped via ship and T-MU message me 20 days later saying um it was likely lost since they hadn't

[01:41:56] heard in an update they gave me a full refund then a week later it arrived anyway it was about six

[01:42:02] foot long unfolded in two and a half feet wide gives me a consistent 90 to 110 watt under less

[01:42:09] than ideal winter sun to my anchor battery works better than any of the goal zero anchor

[01:42:14] etc foldable panels I've tried and came with adapters to convert it to any battery I own it also

[01:42:20] has its own little charge controller with USB ports that works great very cool I'm gonna have to look

[01:42:26] into that guys because I've been looking for a rollable solar panel I do have a new solar panel coming

[01:42:31] to go on the back of my ton of cover it shows up in time so anyway all right final segment of this week

[01:42:38] is the creator spotlight and this is a good one this is a new guy that I just came across and that's

[01:42:43] kind of what I like to share with you guys is whatever I what I do is I go back through my history

[01:42:48] on YouTube for the last week and I see what have I been interested in and this was the new channel

[01:42:53] I came across just the other day and it's craglist hunter he's got 409,000 subscribers and he runs

[01:43:00] it's like a pawn shop but it's just a buy in sell shop he doesn't keep things on loan he just buys

[01:43:07] them and if people want to come back and buy them with their own the shelf and he just he deals

[01:43:12] with a lot of scammers and some of the stuff is unbelievable and some of the older people that are

[01:43:16] trying to run scams on him he had a lady come in she's like here here's a brand new Milwaukee

[01:43:21] chop saw and he's like I don't think so and he opened it up and it was stuffed full of folded

[01:43:26] newspapers I don't know how she even thought she was gonna get away with that and then she's like

[01:43:30] oh but I have some gift cards to sell yet and the gift cards were empty and she tried to say they

[01:43:34] were worth a hundred dollars the lady was an absolute scammer but if you want to watch and see

[01:43:39] what some of the Nair du Wells like to do to try to scam folks give that a go because yeah

[01:43:44] I like this channel and his app is Cragglist app Cragglist hunter on YouTube I've enjoyed him so far

[01:43:52] he's got kind of a French accent he has a camera going 24-7 anybody who goes into the shop shop

[01:43:57] knows that he's recording and yeah definitely a cool thing Rachel Brown says cornstarch flour or

[01:44:03] dried yero for anti-quagulant the yero can also help with pain very good to know so that brings us

[01:44:11] pretty much to the conclusion of this week's show this was a great man we flew through an hour and 45

[01:44:16] minutes I'm telling you it's getting to the point where this show might end up having to be split

[01:44:22] into two shows eventually it would be a few changes when I get back from my eight week road trip

[01:44:28] not for nothing for the worst but just kind of doubling down on some content things as you guys know

[01:44:34] on the road it's impossible nearly impossible to keep up a consistent content schedule I do my best

[01:44:40] and I'm gonna really try to do Thursday and Sunday every week anyway but we'll see where we end up with

[01:44:46] the the traveling I'm a real looking forward to it but I've got some really good ideas for when

[01:44:51] I get back and that's another reason why I'm not taking a road trip in the fall because

[01:44:57] it takes a few months to start building momentum on the YouTube channel and you have to do things

[01:45:04] kind of specifically every day for months on end to really start seeing results and then when

[01:45:08] you travel and you get out of that routine then you have to kind of start from zero not zero but

[01:45:13] you know how it is so anyway I want to get back but next weekend I cannot believe I can say next

[01:45:18] weekend already I'm gonna be speaking at the Kentucky Sustainable Living Festival there's still

[01:45:23] tickets available you can go to Kentucky Sustainable Living festival.com I believe there's tickets available

[01:45:29] there's all spots available for Chuck people's medical class going to be a great class it's the

[01:45:33] Friday before he put together my own personal first aid kits and beyond that I can

[01:45:38] sit there in my friend and a brother in prepping for sure so with that folks I appreciate you

[01:45:44] we will figure out that echo echo echo echo yeah anyway so anybody on the audio thanks for this

[01:45:51] this this week in prepping has we've seen a really big jump in viewership across the board

[01:45:58] so thanks guys I appreciate you I think two weeks ago on all platforms we had well over around

[01:46:07] 1500 downloads slash lessons which to me was huge so thanks guys I really appreciate you and as

[01:46:14] always stay happy stay healthy and have a great week
