[00:00:27] Chapter 35
[00:00:30] That was the best night's sleep I've had in a while, Chappy professed. Stepping his fuzzy legs into his camo pants.
[00:00:39] Lucky us, Monroe sulked, looking out the hotel room's window toward the refugee camp.
[00:00:45] I'll do what I can do, Cole assured him, stepping out of the bathroom.
[00:00:50] He was fresh out of the shower and wore a crisp uniform.
[00:00:53] Looking sharp, sir, Chappy commented.
[00:00:56] It's stiff, Cole declared pulling at his shirt.
[00:01:00] They must be making them again somewhere, Chappy said, sniffing the new material.
[00:01:05] Why don't you get showered, Monroe? And I'll go find out what I can from the captain, Cole suggested.
[00:01:11] That's fine, Monroe answered.
[00:01:13] Cole was frustrated with his sulky attitude.
[00:01:16] He was the one that wanted to come back so bad and now they finally had the opportunity.
[00:01:21] Hey, Mr. Depress, Cole snapped to get his attention.
[00:01:26] Monroe just stared out the window.
[00:01:28] Hey, Monroe, Cole called louder.
[00:01:31] Monroe turned his head back towards Cole.
[00:01:34] You're going to have to snap the hell out of it.
[00:01:37] There's a good chance I won't be able to get any of them out of there, Cole told him.
[00:01:42] I know, sir. I'm trying, Monroe countered.
[00:01:45] We'll try harder because whatever you're doing isn't working, Cole told him, heading towards the door.
[00:01:52] Hold on, sir. I'll come with you, Chappy insisted.
[00:01:55] I'm just going downstairs, Chappy.
[00:01:57] Tying his boots up quickly, Chappy bounced to his feet.
[00:02:01] I don't trust these federal bastards. I'm coming with you, sir.
[00:02:05] Come on then, Cole said, opening the door.
[00:02:08] Monroe, get your shit together.
[00:02:10] Yes, sir, Monroe replied as they left.
[00:02:13] Heading to the elevator, Cole was lost in thought.
[00:02:16] His boots felt heavy and the carpet's pattern danced in his mind.
[00:02:20] He felt horrible about the plight of his friends in Peach Springs.
[00:02:24] Despite his best intentions, he had been unable to help them.
[00:02:28] They were going to become refugees either way, he mumbled, trying to convince himself.
[00:02:33] You're not wrong, sir, Chappy agreed.
[00:02:35] Cole looked up at him surprised.
[00:02:38] You think so?
[00:02:39] I heard barns, same as you.
[00:02:41] The area was classified as badlands.
[00:02:44] Eventually the feds would have come, whether we were there or not.
[00:02:49] Cole knew the truth of Chappy's statement but didn't want to admit it.
[00:02:53] They quietly entered the elevator and stood in silence, descending to the lobby.
[00:02:58] Walking across the brightly lit room, he saw the captain eating alone at one of the tables.
[00:03:04] Cole approached him.
[00:03:06] The captain looked up annoyed by Cole's presence.
[00:03:09] Major Virgis, is there something I can help you with?
[00:03:12] I'm leaving this afternoon and I need to know how many of my fighters you're going to let me take.
[00:03:17] Cole informed him as he sat down.
[00:03:19] Chappy stood stoically behind him.
[00:03:22] The Major General assigned you men.
[00:03:24] What do you need from me?
[00:03:26] Some of the people that came here with me, Cole began to say but the captain cut them off.
[00:03:31] You're not taking any of those people with you.
[00:03:34] Sir, we have trained fighters in with those refugees. They're part of our team.
[00:03:39] There are ways for them to volunteer and earn their spot in the forces, the captain assured him,
[00:03:43] scooping up the last few bites of agonist plate.
[00:03:47] Frustrated with the captain's response, Cole requested one.
[00:03:51] Just let us have one of them, sir.
[00:03:54] The captain took a deep breath as he stood up with his plate in his hand.
[00:03:58] Cole stood up as well, waiting for his answer.
[00:04:01] Fine, if it gets you out of my hair, you can have one.
[00:04:05] Cole wasn't pleased but at least he could help one of them.
[00:04:09] Thank you, Cole replied. I'm looking forward to collaborating in the future.
[00:04:13] The look of annoyance deepened and the captain said shortly,
[00:04:17] Honestly Major, we need supplies, not people, so don't bring us the latter.
[00:04:23] Understood, we'll do the best we can.
[00:04:26] Also let's make the railroad a priority.
[00:04:28] We can use steam engines to run goods back and forth.
[00:04:32] The captain thought on his suggestion and shook his head positively.
[00:04:36] It would also be a good place for refugees to work.
[00:04:39] Thanks again, sir, Cole told him as he left.
[00:04:42] The smell of the food cooking had Cole's stomach rumbling and he went with chappy to get in line.
[00:04:48] It wasn't long until Monroe approached.
[00:04:51] Did you talk to the captain? He wondered.
[00:04:54] I did, Cole affirmed.
[00:04:55] How many, Monroe asked.
[00:04:57] One, Cole answered grabbing his plate.
[00:05:00] Only one, Monroe wondered, thinking of all their friends.
[00:05:05] Should we take King?
[00:05:07] No.
[00:05:08] We're going to take Ginger, Cole responded, watching a small smile cross Monroe's face.
[00:05:14] He loaded his plate with eggs and a mystery meat patty.
[00:05:18] Monroe's girl? What about Raidell?
[00:05:20] Chappy wondered, loading his plate next.
[00:05:23] He had been working closely with the young man and saw great potential in him.
[00:05:27] Monroe looked curiously at Chappy, replying, she's not my girl.
[00:05:32] As they walked to the table, Cole looked sideways at him, wondering why he denied it.
[00:05:38] Everyone could see he had fallen for the woman, but Cole had other intentions.
[00:05:42] He was less concerned with their dating status and leaning more toward his feelings for her.
[00:05:48] She had always been one of his closest friends when he was home.
[00:05:50] We can only take one, she's an intelligent information analyst.
[00:05:56] We'll have to teach her to fight with the team, Monroe fretted, knowing the dangers of their job.
[00:06:01] He quickly ate the contents on his plate, nervous about the entire situation.
[00:06:06] She's a fast learner and she can start with communications Cole suggested,
[00:06:11] understanding that role would keep her furthest from danger.
[00:06:14] Monroe didn't really know her professional abilities and wondered,
[00:06:18] you think she can do it?
[00:06:19] If I had a doubt, I wouldn't have suggested it.
[00:06:23] She's coachable and calm under pressure.
[00:06:25] I sure appreciate this, sir, Monroe declared sincerely.
[00:06:30] Cole looked at him sharply and explained, I know you care for her, but remember,
[00:06:35] she was my friend first.
[00:06:36] Honestly, I'm not sure she could survive in captivity.
[00:06:40] Monroe didn't say anything more as Cole finished eating his breakfast.
[00:06:44] I'm going to get her and talk to Barry.
[00:06:47] I want those transports ready to go this afternoon, Cole said firmly.
[00:06:51] Yes, sir, the men answered, split the crew, pick two teams to chase down the bastards that robbed us.
[00:06:58] And we'll take three north with us when we go Cole directed,
[00:07:02] rising to his feet and returning his plate to the counter.
[00:07:06] After receiving another affirmative response, Cole began the walk towards the refugee camp.
[00:07:11] He didn't know how he would look, Barry in the eyes, but he had little choice now.
[00:07:16] There was a job to do and he had his orders.
[00:07:21] Are you prepared to be the family doctor in a disaster or emergency?
[00:07:26] This is the Intrepid Commander and I'm holding the Preppers Medical Handbook by William W. Forge M.D.
[00:07:34] In this great book, you'll learn how to prepare for medical care off the grid.
[00:07:38] You'll learn about assessment and stabilization.
[00:07:42] You'll even deal with things like bioterrorism response, radiation,
[00:07:46] and how to build the off-grid medical kit at home.
[00:07:51] Look, 2020 taught us a lot about the limitations of our medical infrastructure in America.
[00:07:57] Get the Preppers Medical Handbook today at Amazon.com.
[00:08:02] Again, that's the Preppers Medical Handbook by William W. Forge M.D.
[00:08:10] You're listening to PBN. Your path back to stability health.
[00:08:19] Hello and welcome back to the Changing Earth Podcast.
[00:08:24] This is episode number 433, season 15, episode 35.
[00:08:30] Hey, Tim, what's up?
[00:08:32] Chins up. I mean, we were just in the middle of a good conversation about chicken coops
[00:08:37] and then we had to stop.
[00:08:38] I know. We're live. We're live right now. It's not that long.
[00:08:42] We had a whole other show going on in the back.
[00:08:44] We did. We absolutely did.
[00:08:47] We're planning out chicken coops and gardens and things like that
[00:08:54] because it just never ends on the homestead.
[00:09:00] Alrighty.
[00:09:02] So welcome to episode number 433.
[00:09:05] We just heard Virgis and last week, Virgis arrived at the FEMA camp.
[00:09:11] They took back their jobs this week.
[00:09:16] He's trying to get his friends out of there.
[00:09:20] So, Arano gave him one.
[00:09:25] One person out of them all.
[00:09:28] Of course, it's going to be Monroe's girlfriend.
[00:09:34] You brought up an interesting point that I glanced over in the chapter
[00:09:39] was Monroe having his little pity party in the morning.
[00:09:44] That really, like in a natural disaster or any kind of disaster,
[00:09:51] not letting you get into that funk, getting into that rut.
[00:09:55] Right.
[00:09:57] Because that'll just...
[00:09:59] I would even go so far as to say,
[00:10:03] you've got to be able to identify that and handle that even in normal times.
[00:10:08] The funk just gets you.
[00:10:10] Yeah, but if you have a day where you had a funk
[00:10:14] and you just sit around in sweats and listen to the stereo,
[00:10:20] crank the stereo or the headphones or watch stupid movies or something,
[00:10:24] it's not going to be that detrimental.
[00:10:27] Just get through it.
[00:10:30] But if you're in a disaster scenario, it could really put...
[00:10:34] There's just no time for that.
[00:10:37] Yeah, you got to snap the heck out of it.
[00:10:40] Wake up! He's like, I'm trying.
[00:10:42] He's like, you're not trying hard enough.
[00:10:45] Suck it up.
[00:10:47] I always tell everybody at work that, suck it up.
[00:10:52] We got a job to do. Suck it up.
[00:10:54] Suck it up.
[00:10:55] Oh, man, I'm so tired of you.
[00:10:57] I like marker for the chapter.
[00:11:00] Yeah.
[00:11:01] I'm so tired of you telling me that.
[00:11:03] Do you know how many times I tell myself that?
[00:11:06] Do you know what I look at when I open up my laptop?
[00:11:09] It literally says suck it up on my laptop.
[00:11:14] Life goes on, man.
[00:11:17] If anybody is actually struggling with depression,
[00:11:20] which, you know, I don't blame you about...
[00:11:24] There's a lot of things going on.
[00:11:26] Actually, talking with Brian Duff
[00:11:30] and listening to his struggles with PTSD
[00:11:35] and really going with him on his journey
[00:11:39] and then being able to put that into retrospect in my own life,
[00:11:44] I had anger issues.
[00:11:47] And when he talks about, you know,
[00:11:50] being able to feel the feeling coming on
[00:11:53] before it affects you emotionally,
[00:11:56] that's really what it's about.
[00:11:58] And so studying with him,
[00:12:00] I was actually able to get a grip on those anger issues
[00:12:03] and then also apply it over to depressive states
[00:12:07] where you're like, hey, hey, I feel this coming on.
[00:12:11] You know, maybe it's time to pray a little bit more,
[00:12:14] rationalize a little bit more,
[00:12:16] take myself back out of the emotion
[00:12:17] and see what's going on, what's making that happen.
[00:12:20] Amazing stuff.
[00:12:22] Because then you can start helping other people in your life
[00:12:25] actually be able to see that,
[00:12:27] identify that and deal with that as well.
[00:12:31] His podcast, Mind for Survival, is a great show.
[00:12:35] It really is.
[00:12:36] Good stuff, isn't it?
[00:12:37] Yeah, and then he does the show with Dale as well.
[00:12:41] Dale and Dof show.
[00:12:42] I just laugh.
[00:12:43] It's such a ying and a ying
[00:12:46] because his Mind for Survival is very grounded.
[00:12:52] He gets on the mic with Dale and he goes off.
[00:12:57] And they're flying.
[00:12:58] Oh, man.
[00:13:01] Good stuff though.
[00:13:02] I mean, if you're dealing with certain emotions
[00:13:05] and stuff that you really want to be able to conceptualize
[00:13:08] and handle in a different manner,
[00:13:10] I would definitely say open up your mind
[00:13:12] and learn about some of the experiences he's been through.
[00:13:17] Mind for Survival, Brian Dof, check it out if that's you.
[00:13:21] Alrighty.
[00:13:22] So that was a huge intro.
[00:13:26] We got some cool events coming up.
[00:13:30] I've got to get a blooper show scheduled.
[00:13:32] But I tell you what, I've just been working so hard
[00:13:35] on getting the audio drama.
[00:13:36] You know how like when you're reading a book
[00:13:38] and you're getting close to the end,
[00:13:40] you don't want to put that book down?
[00:13:42] Right.
[00:13:43] Well, it's the same way with building out the audio drama.
[00:13:46] I'm so close to the end.
[00:13:47] Don't want to put it down.
[00:13:48] But unfortunately, like every minute...
[00:13:50] The keyboard.
[00:13:51] Yeah.
[00:13:52] But every minute takes you two hours to do.
[00:13:55] So you really have to schedule that with life.
[00:13:59] Oh, I've also gone back to MMA class again as well.
[00:14:03] Good to.
[00:14:04] I know.
[00:14:05] I'm feeling good.
[00:14:06] I've been really putting it in hard every day,
[00:14:08] you know, making sure my body is ready for it.
[00:14:10] So my instructor bought one of my books
[00:14:14] and he was like, oh, I got one of your books.
[00:14:16] You have to come sign it.
[00:14:17] Bring your sparring gear.
[00:14:19] Is that...
[00:14:20] Yeah, that's your friend that you introduced me to?
[00:14:22] Yes.
[00:14:22] Yeah, really.
[00:14:24] He's stellar.
[00:14:25] Your worlds are colliding, Sarah.
[00:14:27] I know.
[00:14:28] No, I was like...
[00:14:30] I was like, okay, because he's...
[00:14:32] He's the communications guy.
[00:14:34] He's very much into doing like radio systems
[00:14:38] and stuff like that.
[00:14:39] He has his own shop here in Tyler,
[00:14:43] if anybody's wanting a stereo system
[00:14:45] or the comms install.
[00:14:46] He's been doing a lot of the ham radio installs
[00:14:49] and stuff like that.
[00:14:50] I know he had a shot.
[00:14:52] I need to get up with him.
[00:14:53] Yeah.
[00:14:54] That's cool.
[00:14:55] Yeah, he literally goes out like installs
[00:14:58] like the surveillance systems
[00:14:59] and all the comms systems that make them more...
[00:15:02] He's got all the bases covered.
[00:15:04] Yes, right?
[00:15:06] So he started talking to me more about ham
[00:15:08] and how that all the intricacies and whatnot.
[00:15:12] And I was like, bro,
[00:15:15] you really need to get a hold of Chen because...
[00:15:19] Sarah's like, I may be trying something,
[00:15:21] but that's what's still going on in my head.
[00:15:24] Exactly.
[00:15:25] And I like...
[00:15:26] I've got my hands up, catching a lot up there.
[00:15:29] But...
[00:15:30] So I was like, yeah,
[00:15:32] and then when Chen teaches you,
[00:15:33] then you can program my radios up for me.
[00:15:35] So he said that was a good deal.
[00:15:37] So it was a fun thing.
[00:15:38] Yeah.
[00:15:39] So back to getting in some sparring time
[00:15:44] and stuff like that,
[00:15:45] which is always awesome.
[00:15:46] You know, you got to get hit in the face
[00:15:48] every once in a while.
[00:15:51] So...
[00:15:51] Then you know how much you can take.
[00:15:53] You know, you're not scared of it.
[00:15:54] You're like a T-shirt.
[00:15:55] Oh, another one.
[00:15:57] Yeah.
[00:15:58] You got to get hit in the face every once in a while.
[00:16:02] Hopefully it's not from something you said.
[00:16:03] The way of life.
[00:16:04] Yeah, it is.
[00:16:05] I was missing it bad.
[00:16:08] So, yeah,
[00:16:09] and Brock got me some more equipment for my home gym.
[00:16:12] I got a balance board.
[00:16:14] He's a keeper.
[00:16:15] I know.
[00:16:16] I would definitely recommend the balance board though.
[00:16:20] You can do all your arm lifting on the balance board
[00:16:23] and it helps you with all your stabilizers and your legs.
[00:16:27] Is that the...
[00:16:29] Is that like the roller thing?
[00:16:31] It is like an upside down roller thing,
[00:16:34] mine has little grippies on the top
[00:16:35] but like a bo-soo ball is the same concept
[00:16:38] where you're like standing on the ball.
[00:16:39] Yeah, yeah, okay.
[00:16:39] Same kind of concept.
[00:16:41] Anything that's going to really just test your balance
[00:16:43] as you go.
[00:16:44] That helps to hold the bench
[00:16:45] into doing exercises.
[00:16:48] Right.
[00:16:48] Because you can do just your arm lifts
[00:16:50] and whatnot
[00:16:51] but on the balance board.
[00:16:53] So now you're adding that other element.
[00:16:55] And as we get older
[00:16:57] we start to rely on our vision
[00:16:59] instead of our muscles.
[00:17:01] And so that's why like elderly people fall a lot in the dark.
[00:17:06] So working with those stabilizers
[00:17:08] and that is really important as we age.
[00:17:11] So that's why I definitely recommend
[00:17:12] you have some type of a balance system.
[00:17:16] Even if it's just standing on one leg,
[00:17:18] make sure you have a chair in front of you
[00:17:20] but yeah, good stuff.
[00:17:23] Alrighty, so we also have
[00:17:25] the Patriot Homestead Conference coming up
[00:17:29] at last weekend of April.
[00:17:31] So that's kind of cool.
[00:17:33] I got like some multiple events going on this year.
[00:17:36] So I'm gonna be up there in Illinois.
[00:17:38] So if you guys are in that area
[00:17:39] you gotta come see me for sure.
[00:17:42] All of books, all that good stuff.
[00:17:44] I've never been up,
[00:17:45] I haven't been up to that area
[00:17:47] in a long time, you know.
[00:17:48] I've been in events in Texas, in Colorado,
[00:17:52] in North Carolina, you know.
[00:17:54] But I haven't been up.
[00:17:55] I'll go in college, I think.
[00:17:57] This is very, very southern Illinois.
[00:18:00] So I'm not gonna be up anywhere near Chicago.
[00:18:04] Yeah, yeah.
[00:18:08] Scott's, Scott's, something, Scott,
[00:18:12] something county, Scott County.
[00:18:14] I don't know.
[00:18:15] Look it up.
[00:18:16] Yeah, it's easy to find.
[00:18:17] Patriot Homestead Conference.
[00:18:19] And then of course, September will be out in Prepper Camp.
[00:18:21] So that's always, I was,
[00:18:25] Yeah, I was talking to one of my family members
[00:18:27] from Prepper Camp.
[00:18:29] And I was like, man, I wish Prepper Camp lasted
[00:18:33] 362 days and work,
[00:18:35] or 361 and work was only three days, you know.
[00:18:38] Could you imagine us all of us being like
[00:18:40] in like the same town?
[00:18:42] We probably kill each other.
[00:18:47] That's one thing.
[00:18:49] Like I'm always like, it would be cool if an event happened
[00:18:52] while we're at Prepper Camp.
[00:18:53] It's like, wait a minute.
[00:18:54] These are all your preparedness leaders in one area.
[00:18:57] Too many leaders, not enough, right?
[00:18:59] Yeah, too many leaders at one spot.
[00:19:01] So we got to have the spread out, but
[00:19:04] Sarah with the reality check.
[00:19:06] Yeah, I'm just saying, you know,
[00:19:08] but yeah, there's definitely, you know,
[00:19:11] a little core group of people that I could honestly
[00:19:14] survive with forever.
[00:19:18] So, oh, you're in there, Chin.
[00:19:21] My brother from another mother.
[00:19:26] All right, so let's talk about some skills.
[00:19:28] We've been squirreling.
[00:19:29] It's a chill day if you guys haven't noticed.
[00:19:32] We're chilling today.
[00:19:34] So I'm gonna have some good shows coming up though.
[00:19:36] We're going to get some of our...
[00:19:38] We're having good shows.
[00:19:39] This is a good show already.
[00:19:40] Oh yeah, last week was mom.
[00:19:42] I hate to say, okay, squirrel moment.
[00:19:43] I hate to say last week was a good show
[00:19:45] because you know how I think about Swanson.
[00:19:48] Such an awesome guy to hang out with.
[00:19:50] Right, I know.
[00:19:53] To say I had fun with Swanson is just...
[00:19:56] Right?
[00:19:57] Wait till he bust Sheila out.
[00:20:00] Gosh.
[00:20:02] The man was like a natural when I gave it to him.
[00:20:05] I mean, I'm serious.
[00:20:06] We put a paper plate up on the tree.
[00:20:08] He whips the paper plate off the tree
[00:20:11] and then snaps it in the air again.
[00:20:14] I was just like, no.
[00:20:18] I looked like I had been tied to the whooping post
[00:20:21] using my whip, you know?
[00:20:25] You keep catching yourself.
[00:20:28] But he did a few times.
[00:20:29] Sheila does bite, so...
[00:20:32] Yeah, that was a good show.
[00:20:34] Let's read.
[00:20:35] Yeah, but of course we're going to keep him coming.
[00:20:38] You know how it is here. I'm changing Earth.
[00:20:42] Alrighty, so skills to make you valuable
[00:20:46] in the apocalypse.
[00:20:48] And a lot of times let's go through some of the basics
[00:20:50] because a lot of times we hit the basics
[00:20:52] but I have some fresh ideas and suggestions.
[00:20:56] Get your guys' brains kind of zipping along
[00:20:59] on this trail because...
[00:21:02] I'm going to explain how this happened to me a bit.
[00:21:05] But let's go through some of our basics first
[00:21:07] because you got a really good line up.
[00:21:10] Oh man, and number one on Chin's list,
[00:21:13] wouldn't you know what it is?
[00:21:15] I did not write that article either.
[00:21:17] Yeah. Where we come from?
[00:21:20] Disaster survival skills.
[00:21:21] But you were like, this is the list. This is like the best list.
[00:21:25] It's huge. It's the best list.
[00:21:30] Because number one on the list is communications.
[00:21:35] It is important man.
[00:21:37] I'm not going to lie.
[00:21:39] I don't know this number one but...
[00:21:41] Right, but it is definitely important.
[00:21:44] I would think that probably being warm and fed
[00:21:48] and with water is going to trump communications.
[00:21:53] So communications is both long range
[00:21:57] collecting the information and asking for help
[00:22:00] and short range in keeping people organized
[00:22:04] and in sync with each other and directing movement.
[00:22:09] That's no doubt.
[00:22:10] Yeah, so communication isn't the thing
[00:22:14] but it's kind of the backbone that keeps the thing working.
[00:22:18] You know what I mean?
[00:22:19] Absolutely. No, it's true.
[00:22:21] I was thinking about like...
[00:22:24] I mean personally I don't really adhere to
[00:22:28] counselors or things like that.
[00:22:30] I've never had the best experience in my life
[00:22:33] but mentors, pastors, people, martial arts instructors
[00:22:39] those kinds of people that know how to handle
[00:22:44] multiple personality types and really create
[00:22:48] that community and keep...
[00:22:50] There's something to be said for that individual.
[00:22:54] It's a skill, I mean it's like skill for sure.
[00:22:58] Yeah, because most of the time I'm like,
[00:23:00] uh-uh, I get enough socialization at all my events
[00:23:06] other than that I'm just working in my jail cell here.
[00:23:12] Alright, number two on the list,
[00:23:14] course how to purify water.
[00:23:16] It's so extremely frightening how many people
[00:23:19] don't understand that you just can't drink
[00:23:22] water from everywhere.
[00:23:25] You can't go to a river and drink water.
[00:23:29] The mountain stream.
[00:23:30] Yeah, you know.
[00:23:32] I mean things fall out of the sky into that water.
[00:23:35] So knowing how to purify that water is essential.
[00:23:39] Knowing what's upstream from your water,
[00:23:42] that kind of thing.
[00:23:43] We got a bunch of articles in the database
[00:23:48] on purifying water so I'll link some of those through.
[00:23:54] Not going to take notes at the same time.
[00:23:57] How to apply a tourniquet.
[00:24:00] That's pretty darn important.
[00:24:02] I would say that's a missing skill that a lot of people don't have.
[00:24:04] Yeah, there's some of these, like he has 13 skills
[00:24:07] but I think some of this could be all broken combined into like...
[00:24:12] Yeah, first aid.
[00:24:13] So I put first aid.
[00:24:14] That'd be part of tourniquet.
[00:24:15] Tourniquet under first aid.
[00:24:16] Yeah, general first aid is really, really important.
[00:24:20] We kind of talked about that a couple weeks ago.
[00:24:22] You know, that one little infection can quickly get out of control
[00:24:26] and that can be your life because like,
[00:24:29] oops, I caught my hand with the saw while I was doing something.
[00:24:33] So yeah, definitely no in first aid.
[00:24:37] And then really you got to have...
[00:24:39] Like I would push for as much medical skills as possible.
[00:24:42] Yeah.
[00:24:43] Like you always talk about dental and...
[00:24:47] Yeah.
[00:24:47] I bet it's just slides past a lot of people's radar.
[00:24:52] And like teeth, tooth problems can cause heart attacks
[00:24:55] and things like this.
[00:24:56] It's crazy.
[00:24:57] They're really important.
[00:24:58] If you got a toothache,
[00:24:59] you're going to be thinking about nothing else.
[00:25:02] Those are the worst.
[00:25:04] Burgers could be told you snap out of it.
[00:25:06] Yeah, get over it.
[00:25:08] Move on.
[00:25:10] Swim some be like, swish some whiskey, you'll be fine.
[00:25:14] Here, let Sheila handle it.
[00:25:15] Vodka with the boys or the Russian boys?
[00:25:17] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:25:18] Go get some vodka with Yori.
[00:25:22] Yeah, if Ryan's listening out there,
[00:25:23] he needs to get me some Uri lines.
[00:25:25] I'm just saying.
[00:25:26] Serde lines.
[00:25:29] Alrighty.
[00:25:31] So emergency shelter, really, really important.
[00:25:35] Got to be able to stay warm.
[00:25:37] Got to understand that our houses,
[00:25:39] like most of our homes,
[00:25:41] are not built for survival without power.
[00:25:46] I mean,
[00:25:49] you look around like you think about it
[00:25:52] when you just take a moment and think about it.
[00:25:54] It's like,
[00:25:56] they don't worry about what direction
[00:25:58] the house is facing anymore.
[00:26:02] And you know, though that,
[00:26:03] you know, I'm building a house and it's the simple things
[00:26:07] like how you direct place,
[00:26:10] place your house on your lot.
[00:26:13] But like home builders don't do,
[00:26:14] they're thinking about how many houses
[00:26:16] in a neighborhood.
[00:26:18] Yeah, you know, they're like,
[00:26:19] how many can we pack in?
[00:26:21] As opposed to if they did like five less houses
[00:26:24] in a neighborhood,
[00:26:24] they could orient them south facing window.
[00:26:28] Maximize the wind flow for cooling.
[00:26:31] It's amazing what it's done for my house.
[00:26:34] Yeah.
[00:26:35] Like in the wintertime,
[00:26:36] suns come blaring in through the windows.
[00:26:38] In the summertime,
[00:26:40] no sunlight shines, you know,
[00:26:42] like the light,
[00:26:44] there's no sunlight shining directly on the ground in my house
[00:26:48] just because of placement and overhangs.
[00:26:50] Yes.
[00:26:51] It's amazing.
[00:26:52] Yep.
[00:26:52] And it just takes that little bit of planning.
[00:26:54] So of course,
[00:26:55] like your basic emergency survival shelter,
[00:26:58] if you're in the woods or whatever,
[00:27:00] everybody's thinking,
[00:27:01] oh, if I was in the woods,
[00:27:02] I got to do sticks and this stuff.
[00:27:04] Predominant wind direction and sun.
[00:27:06] But still understand that like
[00:27:08] your home where you're planning on plugging in,
[00:27:13] probably isn't,
[00:27:14] you know,
[00:27:15] you're going to have to think about survival within that shelter.
[00:27:19] And it's not just comfort, like temperature comfort.
[00:27:22] It's also like,
[00:27:23] at a summertime with like mold and stuff,
[00:27:26] like moisture and humidity.
[00:27:29] You go too long and you start, you know,
[00:27:31] so that could be a health issue too.
[00:27:33] Absolutely.
[00:27:34] And it could ruin food and materials
[00:27:37] and clothing and everything else.
[00:27:39] Yeah, honestly,
[00:27:40] when we were in Costa Rica,
[00:27:42] like driving down the street there,
[00:27:43] because we went to San Jose,
[00:27:45] or not San Jose,
[00:27:47] San Jose is the big one.
[00:27:49] We went to La Bertha
[00:27:51] and it's like a little hanger that you fly into.
[00:27:55] Liberia, Liberia.
[00:27:56] And it's this little hanger you fly into
[00:27:58] and so we're like back woods in it
[00:28:00] in Costa Rica
[00:28:02] and everybody has their doors open and stuff.
[00:28:04] And you can literally see like the mold
[00:28:06] on the walls and whatnot.
[00:28:07] Cause it's so humid there.
[00:28:09] Yeah, without like air flow or
[00:28:11] Right.
[00:28:12] Like air conditioning gives you the
[00:28:15] dehumidifier kind of built into it
[00:28:17] so you're sucking the moisture out of the house.
[00:28:18] Right.
[00:28:19] Yeah, so that's all,
[00:28:21] you're right, that's really important
[00:28:22] and that's all for your health
[00:28:24] and all this kind of stuff.
[00:28:25] So understand you're going to have to
[00:28:27] like learn survival inside of your home
[00:28:29] and then oh, there are people,
[00:28:31] oh well I got a generator.
[00:28:33] I'm going to be just fine.
[00:28:34] How much fuel do you have stuck with?
[00:28:36] How much fuel?
[00:28:37] How much is that a beacon?
[00:28:40] I was just going to say that.
[00:28:41] Right.
[00:28:43] I mean, you hear them light up
[00:28:44] as soon as the power goes off
[00:28:45] like brrrrr
[00:28:46] generator on generator.
[00:28:48] You're on the mountain
[00:28:49] and you can hear the subdivision
[00:28:50] back behind me.
[00:28:52] Yeah.
[00:28:52] Fire up.
[00:28:53] Everybody.
[00:28:54] And they run constant.
[00:28:56] Yes.
[00:28:58] The whole time there's power.
[00:29:00] And it was running for like two hours
[00:29:02] past the power.
[00:29:02] I'm like, dude, did you not check to see?
[00:29:04] Right.
[00:29:06] Turn it off, man.
[00:29:08] Yeah.
[00:29:08] So now, so just keep that in mind.
[00:29:11] Okay.
[00:29:12] How to make fire.
[00:29:13] Yeah.
[00:29:14] You better get on it if you don't know.
[00:29:17] Home shelter reinforcements.
[00:29:19] That's kind of what we're talking about.
[00:29:20] You've got like big windows
[00:29:21] and you're going to worry about people
[00:29:23] coming up to your house.
[00:29:24] That might be something you want to,
[00:29:25] you know, have plywood.
[00:29:26] You know, is something sagging
[00:29:29] or something structurally need to be like
[00:29:33] Have any spare lumber around it?
[00:29:35] You can like reinforce a wall.
[00:29:36] So it does your ceiling.
[00:29:38] Yeah.
[00:29:39] Yeah.
[00:29:40] Defense for your home.
[00:29:42] So of course I talk a lot about defense, you know,
[00:29:46] how to read nature signs.
[00:29:48] Yeah.
[00:29:49] Cause you won't have your phone telling you
[00:29:51] it might be raining in 15 minutes.
[00:29:54] Oh, I love that app on my phone.
[00:29:56] It's a yeah.
[00:29:56] 15 minutes.
[00:29:57] Yeah.
[00:29:58] Me too.
[00:29:59] But like
[00:29:59] Last thing for two hours.
[00:30:00] I was like, okay, I got it.
[00:30:02] Awesome.
[00:30:04] But you're not going to have that.
[00:30:06] No.
[00:30:07] So
[00:30:07] I were a fun squirrel.
[00:30:09] I bought a convertible off my buddy
[00:30:11] one of my college friends.
[00:30:13] Uh huh.
[00:30:13] So he drove this back when I was in Charleston
[00:30:15] and single.
[00:30:16] He drove the Charleston to deliver the car
[00:30:18] to me.
[00:30:19] Yeah.
[00:30:19] And we're driving out to the beach.
[00:30:22] So I'm like, let's make a vacation of it.
[00:30:25] We're driving out to the beach.
[00:30:26] I said, ah, we better pull over
[00:30:27] or put the top up.
[00:30:28] He goes, why?
[00:30:30] I said, cause it's about to rain.
[00:30:31] He goes, how do you know?
[00:30:32] It's like I felt all of a sudden the
[00:30:34] temperature drop.
[00:30:35] It got colder and the wind changed.
[00:30:37] And you could tell the wind changed by
[00:30:39] the leaves flip over.
[00:30:40] Yep.
[00:30:41] He goes, you're crazy.
[00:30:42] I said, we better put the top up.
[00:30:44] Put the top up and start to rain.
[00:30:45] Yeah.
[00:30:46] Yeah.
[00:30:47] There's definitely telltale signs of
[00:30:49] like, yeah, you gotta be a huge
[00:30:51] but yeah, you just have to pay attention.
[00:30:53] Yep.
[00:30:55] Very important.
[00:30:57] The DIY respiratory mass.
[00:31:01] I get that.
[00:31:02] Yep.
[00:31:02] I'm kind of going that direction in a
[00:31:04] minute.
[00:31:06] Basic plumbing and electronics.
[00:31:09] Oh, that's big.
[00:31:10] I mean, that is like, luckily my husband
[00:31:13] knows.
[00:31:13] Because you want to be able to like
[00:31:14] shut stuff off.
[00:31:16] Right.
[00:31:16] Yep.
[00:31:17] I mean, if you have a plumbing
[00:31:18] leak or you have electrical loose
[00:31:20] live wires or down wires.
[00:31:23] It's amazing how many people.
[00:31:26] But if the power company puts the
[00:31:27] power back on, it's going to be a
[00:31:28] live wire.
[00:31:29] Yep.
[00:31:29] So there's.
[00:31:31] Yeah.
[00:31:31] It's amazing in like the other
[00:31:34] countries that don't have the same
[00:31:36] electrical systems as we do.
[00:31:38] A lot of large population of people
[00:31:40] actually die and flooding because
[00:31:42] of electrication.
[00:31:43] Yeah.
[00:31:44] Like that's like the number one
[00:31:46] reason I've seen people die.
[00:31:47] All over the place tapped into
[00:31:49] each other.
[00:31:50] Yeah.
[00:31:53] So basically coming food.
[00:31:55] Oh no, flood barriers, food
[00:31:57] barriers.
[00:31:58] Those are for those overweight
[00:31:59] people.
[00:32:00] I got a food barrier right here.
[00:32:01] Yeah, you don't.
[00:32:02] You don't want them like, you know
[00:32:04] your rations.
[00:32:05] So you got to put up food
[00:32:06] barriers.
[00:32:09] Um, that's a joke.
[00:32:11] Everybody.
[00:32:13] Um, flood barriers.
[00:32:16] Yeah.
[00:32:16] So definitely.
[00:32:17] Yeah.
[00:32:18] That one's for you in the
[00:32:19] next one.
[00:32:20] 11 or 12.
[00:32:20] Or yours.
[00:32:21] Learn how to make a float.
[00:32:23] I'm good here.
[00:32:24] We're like on a hill kind of
[00:32:26] because you'll always drive
[00:32:27] through the water.
[00:32:29] Oh, so true.
[00:32:30] Cheety, cheety, bang bang.
[00:32:31] You know, I didn't think it was
[00:32:36] that deep.
[00:32:37] I am never going to forget
[00:32:39] that.
[00:32:39] Oh man.
[00:32:40] He ripped me up.
[00:32:41] That was like a half hour
[00:32:43] interview and all I got like
[00:32:45] the whole time.
[00:32:47] I was so nervous about having
[00:32:49] that guy in the show.
[00:32:50] He was awesome.
[00:32:51] He was.
[00:32:52] He was fantastic.
[00:32:53] Trust me, it was a process to
[00:32:55] get him on the show.
[00:32:57] I went through a lot of
[00:33:02] Don't tell what the website is
[00:33:03] if they can't find it.
[00:33:05] I don't want them there.
[00:33:06] Yeah.
[00:33:06] Don't tell them just.
[00:33:08] I was like, okay, James.
[00:33:10] Yeah.
[00:33:11] We lost one there.
[00:33:12] We did.
[00:33:13] Honestly, his book is great.
[00:33:15] Um, it's the self-defence
[00:33:17] or self-contracting
[00:33:19] handbook.
[00:33:20] I have it on my website,
[00:33:23] but that book,
[00:33:24] if you want like really good
[00:33:26] lists, especially for loadouts,
[00:33:29] Mr. Looking for a loadout.
[00:33:31] Um, his
[00:33:33] book is phenomenal
[00:33:34] because it's like exactly what
[00:33:36] you should bring with you when
[00:33:37] you're going overseas on
[00:33:38] deployment, which would be
[00:33:39] exactly what you need in a
[00:33:41] survival situation because
[00:33:42] you can't overpack.
[00:33:44] So, um, yeah, his
[00:33:46] book is really, really phenomenal.
[00:33:48] James.
[00:33:48] Well, there would be that for
[00:33:49] number 13.
[00:33:50] His book you'll need for number 13.
[00:33:52] Yes.
[00:33:53] Packing and repacking the
[00:33:54] bug out bag, no doubt.
[00:33:57] Yeah.
[00:33:57] I'm still flacking.
[00:33:58] I need to, uh,
[00:33:59] I still haven't gone through
[00:34:00] mine.
[00:34:00] I'm just, I gotta get on it.
[00:34:02] I need to, oh.
[00:34:03] Yeah.
[00:34:04] Yeah, I know.
[00:34:05] Not that I'm in a different
[00:34:06] situation.
[00:34:07] I need to get that redone.
[00:34:08] I don't know how, um,
[00:34:10] old my, uh,
[00:34:13] like food supplies in there.
[00:34:15] I have ration bars.
[00:34:16] Those are fine.
[00:34:16] I'm not worried about those,
[00:34:17] but like the granola
[00:34:18] bars, that kind of stuff.
[00:34:20] Have you ever
[00:34:21] eaten an old granola?
[00:34:22] Yeah.
[00:34:23] You're right.
[00:34:24] I know.
[00:34:25] Well, that's how I got the
[00:34:26] idea for the Snickers when
[00:34:28] Erica like has the Snickers
[00:34:29] when they're on the
[00:34:30] battleship.
[00:34:31] Yeah.
[00:34:32] I've had like one of those
[00:34:33] before or it was like from
[00:34:35] old Halloween or something.
[00:34:36] I don't know, you know,
[00:34:38] it was like, oh,
[00:34:39] I'm so hungry.
[00:34:40] I just, I'll just eat it
[00:34:41] anyway.
[00:34:41] And you're just like,
[00:34:43] hmm.
[00:34:44] Yeah.
[00:34:45] I've done that.
[00:34:46] I've, I usually have like
[00:34:47] granola bars and stuff
[00:34:48] in the car because they don't
[00:34:49] have chocolate and stuff on
[00:34:50] them.
[00:34:50] So you can keep them in the
[00:34:51] car.
[00:34:52] Yeah.
[00:34:52] And then, um, I've been like
[00:34:54] hungry and too cheap to
[00:34:56] stop and buy.
[00:34:58] Just gone for it.
[00:34:59] You're just like,
[00:35:00] she went for 10 hours.
[00:35:03] Yeah.
[00:35:04] Yeah.
[00:35:05] Oh, this is great.
[00:35:08] Like a Pemmickin bar at
[00:35:09] that point.
[00:35:11] Yeah, exactly.
[00:35:13] An old Pemmickin bar.
[00:35:15] Yeah.
[00:35:16] So I was thinking actually
[00:35:17] what you hit on at the
[00:35:18] beginning of the show was the
[00:35:20] skills that make you valuable,
[00:35:22] mental attitude.
[00:35:24] Okay.
[00:35:24] Yeah.
[00:35:25] Like if you're somebody
[00:35:26] that people don't want to be
[00:35:28] around, guess what?
[00:35:31] I mean, like,
[00:35:33] I could end well for it.
[00:35:34] In my survival group,
[00:35:35] my instructor,
[00:35:36] when we were learning, um,
[00:35:38] a wild foraging what not,
[00:35:39] he's like, this is a pencil
[00:35:41] plant and you know,
[00:35:42] the poison that comes out
[00:35:44] of it, it's not like
[00:35:45] horrible.
[00:35:46] It's not going to kill
[00:35:46] you by any means, but man,
[00:35:48] it's going to make you sick.
[00:35:49] It's going to make you have
[00:35:50] like diarrhea and the Native
[00:35:51] Americans actually called it
[00:35:53] get annoying person out of
[00:35:55] town is what their name
[00:35:58] for it meant because they
[00:36:01] would just start slipping it
[00:36:02] into their food.
[00:36:04] And then that person won't
[00:36:05] want to be in the group
[00:36:06] anymore because like they
[00:36:07] keep getting sick.
[00:36:09] And so, you know,
[00:36:10] if you're that person
[00:36:11] that's like always got
[00:36:12] the negatives and always,
[00:36:14] you know, oh, we're
[00:36:14] never going to make it.
[00:36:15] We can't do this.
[00:36:16] Dad were the blah, blah, blah,
[00:36:17] blah, blah, you probably
[00:36:20] want to start working with
[00:36:22] that emotional control right
[00:36:24] about now, because obviously
[00:36:26] it's not going to get any
[00:36:27] easier.
[00:36:28] And it's good showing because
[00:36:30] like it's so easy to go off
[00:36:31] and handle.
[00:36:32] I mean that's kind of like
[00:36:33] if you just let all your
[00:36:35] barriers down.
[00:36:35] It's easy to fly off to
[00:36:37] handle.
[00:36:37] The hard thing to do is
[00:36:39] to keep control and
[00:36:40] composure,
[00:36:42] And you literally had a
[00:36:43] choice though.
[00:36:44] Well, it's not the way to handle a situation.
[00:36:46] Yeah.
[00:36:46] And like you literally have the choice.
[00:36:48] 10% circumstance, 90%.
[00:36:50] In the long run, you'll get more done if you stay calm and collected.
[00:36:54] Right.
[00:36:55] And, you know, and your group is going to be better off for it.
[00:36:59] Your team, your family, they're going to be better off for it.
[00:37:03] It's just, I always explain it.
[00:37:06] One of my martial arts instructors explained it to me like it's the circles of the
[00:37:11] Olympic symbol.
[00:37:13] And as long as they're all circles, they all move together.
[00:37:15] They could all rotate and everything's good.
[00:37:19] But if one of them turns into a square or a triangle, it's going to throw the whole system
[00:37:24] off, you know?
[00:37:26] And that's really how I think about it is like if you love these people and, you
[00:37:31] know, or you need them for survival, you can't survive by yourself.
[00:37:36] That's not going to happen, you know?
[00:37:39] Then you better start thinking about how you influence the circle.
[00:37:45] And I'm not saying like not speak your mind or not, you know, do those things, but there's
[00:37:50] a healthy way to handle those things.
[00:37:54] Okay, so person who supplies the basics.
[00:37:56] Basically everything that we were naming off the list.
[00:38:00] Like hopefully everybody listening to this show, unless you're a brand new listener,
[00:38:04] you already have a good feel of what those basics are, how you can procure them, how
[00:38:09] you can take care of that in a survival situation.
[00:38:13] Long term, it's going to get more and more challenging.
[00:38:15] There's no way around that.
[00:38:17] It's just we're not going to be able to run to the store, you know?
[00:38:22] So that's going to get more interesting.
[00:38:25] But honestly from watching, there's an anime, I know I've talked about it on the show
[00:38:29] before, it's called Dr. Stone.
[00:38:32] And so basically everybody on the planet was frozen and then this dude wakes up and he's
[00:38:37] a scientist guy and he wants to figure out like how to get everybody else unfrozen and
[00:38:42] how do we rebuild the world with science?
[00:38:46] But through watching it, it's what I love to write.
[00:38:49] It's fiction that teaches you as you watch, which is right up my alley.
[00:38:56] But as I was watching, I was like, yeah, like soap.
[00:39:01] The bare necessities, yeah.
[00:39:03] But once you get there, then you can build gunpowder, you know?
[00:39:09] You can build generators, radios, all of these things that are kind of more
[00:39:16] technologically complex.
[00:39:19] We need bleach and things like that for sanitization.
[00:39:23] Who knows how to do that?
[00:39:24] You know?
[00:39:27] So that was why I was like, you know what?
[00:39:29] That's an important person.
[00:39:31] Like I've come to see that technology can be useful in a survival situation,
[00:39:35] but a chemist, somebody who knows how to do those electronics, like you say,
[00:39:43] essential really well.
[00:39:44] Technology can be the weakling too.
[00:39:46] It's like at school, you used to have to learn how to do math with a pencil
[00:39:51] and paper before you were allowed to use a calculator.
[00:39:54] Calculator made it a whole heck of a lot easier, but what if the batteries are
[00:39:58] dead or would you drop the calculator on the floor and it doesn't run anymore?
[00:40:02] And now you have no idea how to do this.
[00:40:05] Medications, things like even like noodles and people who can actually cook.
[00:40:10] You know, that's a chemistry base of like, OK, we have this grain.
[00:40:15] We're going to do this.
[00:40:15] We're going to do that.
[00:40:16] We're going to make the gluten.
[00:40:17] Now I have a noodle.
[00:40:18] Now we can, you know, there's so many things involved there.
[00:40:22] What was the book that I shared with you?
[00:40:26] Do you remember the name of it?
[00:40:28] Can you can you put it up in the chat?
[00:40:31] Oh, I'll I'll put it up in a check.
[00:40:33] It was a oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:40:36] It was like rebuilding, but it was all about like the camera.
[00:40:41] It was all it was like what you're saying about it was like
[00:40:43] like how how just basic stuff that we live.
[00:40:47] Yeah, and that's really been an interesting thought experiment for me
[00:40:54] and made me want to research more about those things.
[00:40:59] Because it does come down to your your basics, even like survivor Jane
[00:41:02] has her hygiene book, but she also has like the post apocalyptic cosmetics book and stuff.
[00:41:08] It's like things you can do for makeup and whatnot.
[00:41:12] If that's what makes you feel good to be you.
[00:41:18] Exactly.
[00:41:18] Yeah, that's totally morale.
[00:41:23] That's good on Friday night.
[00:41:25] But if you look at a Friday night, you feel better about it.
[00:41:30] I hate to say it, but you do, right?
[00:41:31] Right.
[00:41:32] If you just walk around all like
[00:41:34] unshapen like a jayvin and just and especially things on his pants and.
[00:41:39] Yeah, if that's what you're used to, especially, you know,
[00:41:42] is your lifestyle and then what like tomorrow comes
[00:41:45] and you're just supposed to change everything and give it up.
[00:41:47] And and now you can't even have those little bits of what used to make you happy
[00:41:52] that, you know, it's going to be a challenge.
[00:41:55] That's big time morale issue.
[00:41:59] So yeah, that I've been really, really thinking, you know,
[00:42:04] in studying more on actually seashells.
[00:42:09] See, we they provide a lot of the basic chemicals
[00:42:13] that we need to be able to make other products from them.
[00:42:18] So I've been thinking a lot about that when I pick my final,
[00:42:23] you know, where I'm going to put my final residence at.
[00:42:26] I've been thinking about more and more about what would be available in the area.
[00:42:31] While forageables can grow there, you know, just a garden and stuff.
[00:42:35] It's so hard here in Texas with what we got going on here at this residence.
[00:42:41] So all of those things are kind of adding up as like that's pretty important to me.
[00:42:45] And then now that just adds another layer of like something to think about
[00:42:50] as you're going into the situation.
[00:42:53] So yeah, but Neil Strauss.
[00:42:58] Was a different one.
[00:43:00] I think it was Neil.
[00:43:02] Emergency. This book will save your life.
[00:43:05] Yep. Yeah, it does.
[00:43:08] I'll put it up.
[00:43:09] OK, what's the name of the actual book?
[00:43:14] Emergency, this book will save your life.
[00:43:16] That's it.
[00:43:20] Yeah, it's a good.
[00:43:23] Well, you read us good read in a good area to to explore already.
[00:43:31] You know, this one is different book.
[00:43:36] Yeah, keep looking for me.
[00:43:39] Um, I think I remember something like that at the beginning, though.
[00:43:45] Now you got me curious, but I don't want to.
[00:43:47] I'm going to jump in and change your news
[00:43:50] and not go down that rabbit hole right now while we're live.
[00:43:55] All righty, let's go ahead and get some other music.
[00:44:03] All righty, so change your news.
[00:44:07] The sun is rampant up.
[00:44:10] There are some major sunspots that are going to be inbound.
[00:44:14] They were like sparking little C class
[00:44:17] flares all day yesterday, kind of settled down today.
[00:44:21] But still we need to make sure that we keep eyes on.
[00:44:25] It's a pretty intense cycle that looks like it's coming up in the sun.
[00:44:28] Supposed to be ramping up anyway in the next couple of weeks.
[00:44:31] So it's important to keep eyes on that.
[00:44:36] All right, let's go to January 29th of
[00:44:40] two thousand twenty four was three hundred ninety six earthquakes
[00:44:44] or two point over bigger biggest, which was a five point seven in Jingjing, China,
[00:44:47] which is where they had that super large earthquake not too long ago.
[00:44:52] Same town.
[00:44:54] I want you to keep an eye on these earthquake numbers.
[00:44:58] It's pretty crazy.
[00:44:59] So actually it was like as far as changing Earth news goes,
[00:45:04] it was pretty chill on our planet.
[00:45:06] I mean, maybe we're just getting used to some more extreme weather.
[00:45:12] Reunion Island, they were hit with some massive rains,
[00:45:16] causing flooding, school closures, road deterioration.
[00:45:20] A couple of vehicles were swept away.
[00:45:22] One person was found dead.
[00:45:24] One person is missing and about 45 homes were submerged there from that rain event.
[00:45:30] Norway got absolutely slammed with a storm.
[00:45:33] Northern Norway, they got hit with a big tsunami.
[00:45:37] They also had hurricane force winds coming in,
[00:45:40] flights, ferries, all shipping was canceled.
[00:45:44] Luckily, it was mostly just property damage and no, no
[00:45:49] nobody passed away in that event.
[00:45:52] On January 30th, there was four hundred and thirty seven earthquakes
[00:45:56] or two point over bigger, biggest of which was a five point one
[00:45:59] on the South Sandwich Islands, Chin's favorite place.
[00:46:03] OK, right.
[00:46:05] They're picking them up Western Ecuador.
[00:46:08] They had severe flooding.
[00:46:10] What's that?
[00:46:12] They've been out of the game for a while.
[00:46:13] I know it's been calm over there, but quieter or we've just been having
[00:46:17] bigger ones come up.
[00:46:20] So Western Ecuador, I know we have family out of our PBA
[00:46:24] and community over there.
[00:46:26] They had severe flooding, seven point five inches of rain in eight hours.
[00:46:34] They had a lot of homes, infrastructure destroyed from that event.
[00:46:38] Northern India, there was a pretty substantial landslide in Perdesh.
[00:46:43] It took out traffic on one of the highways.
[00:46:47] Nobody was injured.
[00:46:48] Luckily, it was kind of odd how everybody was kind of standing around.
[00:46:51] And then the landslide just happened.
[00:46:55] An Indonesia, Malaysia, they had torrential rains.
[00:46:59] They've been getting rains for a while.
[00:47:01] So they are deep in water over there.
[00:47:05] Hospitals submerged, two foot high water so its vehicles are breaking down.
[00:47:11] Oh, there you go.
[00:47:12] The knowledge how to rebuild civilization in the aftermath of a cataclysm.
[00:47:17] Good book on how to rebuild chemical wise.
[00:47:22] Like what do you need chemically to do that?
[00:47:25] Once your supplies start running out, you got to figure it out.
[00:47:27] It was a really interesting book.
[00:47:29] It was kind of like almost like a history book.
[00:47:33] Right? So it's not so like static.
[00:47:37] Yeah.
[00:47:38] There's a little script show.
[00:47:40] Sweet.
[00:47:42] And then who was the author of it?
[00:47:45] I thought it sounded somewhere in an evil Louis.
[00:47:47] Darn now, Louis Darn.
[00:47:49] OK, I was way off.
[00:47:52] Yeah, Louis Darn.
[00:47:54] Yeah, good book, guys.
[00:47:57] That's that.
[00:47:57] I found it at my public library.
[00:48:01] And you know, that's not something that's like included in a lot of
[00:48:06] like the survival books, emergency survival books that I have.
[00:48:10] Right?
[00:48:11] Nobody really touches too much on that topic, but it's such a big deal
[00:48:16] that I was happy to get a hold of that book.
[00:48:22] OK, the South, Southern South Africa, Pringle Bay,
[00:48:27] they are having a big wildfire there on the 30th.
[00:48:31] Residents have been evacuated and Alaska had a record
[00:48:35] snowfall, literally collapsing roofs, 104 inches in some areas came down.
[00:48:42] I have one of my buddies up there.
[00:48:44] He's actually the gentleman that I trained a lot of survival
[00:48:49] with and close quarters combat training and things like that with.
[00:48:54] And so he's up in Alaska now.
[00:48:56] And he had two trees come down on his roof.
[00:49:01] His big boat cover for his boat was destroyed.
[00:49:05] And then two of his friends boats actually sank in the marina
[00:49:08] because of the snow, how much snow they got.
[00:49:12] So prayers going out to everybody up there.
[00:49:15] You guys can dig yourself out of that
[00:49:17] snowfall that they got.
[00:49:19] So on the 31st of January, we had
[00:49:23] six hundred and sixteen earthquakes that were two point
[00:49:27] no or bigger. That's a lot that I don't usually say that number.
[00:49:32] Biggest of which was a five point eight in Tonga, Australia,
[00:49:36] Eastern Australia, Port Ellen, I'm going to have to check in with her.
[00:49:39] They have just been getting walloped storm after storm after storm.
[00:49:44] It's really taking a toll on the population there.
[00:49:48] The last storm they had, they had eleven point eight inches
[00:49:51] in three hours.
[00:49:54] And that is just dumping rain.
[00:49:57] Everything is just getting flooded out.
[00:50:00] You know, it just can't run off fast enough.
[00:50:02] So maybe we have to get Ellen on to talk about what's going on with the
[00:50:06] crazy weather there in Australia. What are they up to?
[00:50:11] Chile, northern area of Chile,
[00:50:15] kind of central to that area.
[00:50:17] They are having some extreme wildfires on January 31st.
[00:50:22] There was 10 people dead so far, 30 homes destroyed,
[00:50:26] but hundreds of more homes were being threatened by it.
[00:50:30] One of the biggest areas under threat was Vindalmar.
[00:50:34] And I can tell you that situation hasn't improved.
[00:50:37] We're going to go through it one more time, but that's been a massive event for Chile.
[00:50:42] And I really wanted to see something on the Argentina wildfires,
[00:50:47] but I didn't see anything on that.
[00:50:49] So hopefully they have those fires under control because I knew
[00:50:53] that was just a problem over there, right?
[00:50:56] Right about that, that it was Argentina last week.
[00:50:58] It was I'm getting confused between Argentina or Colombia.
[00:51:03] So anyway, yeah, they've been having some
[00:51:07] it's kind of flip flop, right? Oh, Colombia.
[00:51:10] It is Colombia that was having the big wildfires.
[00:51:12] So I didn't see anything about them this time around.
[00:51:15] So that's good news because it got to be pretty big to hit, you know,
[00:51:19] the the media where you're going to be able to see it.
[00:51:24] And so hopefully they have that under wraps.
[00:51:26] But isn't it kind of funny how now that we're in the winter
[00:51:30] up in the north, summer in the south,
[00:51:33] we're having all those wildfires up here this year now flip.
[00:51:37] And now they've got the wildfires down there.
[00:51:40] A lot of flooding though in Africa.
[00:51:41] I mean, that's been the story has been flooding in Africa.
[00:51:44] So let's see what else we got.
[00:51:48] Northern Norway, the that storm Ingen
[00:51:52] that was 120 mile an hour winds, just trail of destruction up there.
[00:51:57] Northern Madagascar, they've had rain.
[00:52:01] And since January 16th, four people are dead.
[00:52:03] Three are missing. Four injured just due to this horrible flooding situation.
[00:52:08] They've lost 17,500 hectares of rice fields.
[00:52:13] So put that in terms of the acres you're looking at, you know, over 25,
[00:52:18] 26,000 easily acres are pretty pretty much you double it to get an acre count on it.
[00:52:25] So that is a lot of their food supply destroyed.
[00:52:28] Never a good thing.
[00:52:30] And the Western United States, the West Coast has been just getting wallop
[00:52:36] to a storm after storm coming in.
[00:52:38] They are underwater in Southern California.
[00:52:43] I as somebody in the insurance realm and that state, I can tell you,
[00:52:47] they've been into catastrophic situations for almost a week now.
[00:52:52] So they need some relief from the rain, which is not usually the problem in California.
[00:52:59] All right, on February 1st, there was 739 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger.
[00:53:06] That is a lot.
[00:53:08] The biggest of which was a 5.1 in the Philippine.
[00:53:12] Rain just continues in Southern California.
[00:53:14] And there was actually a cruise ship out in the Gulf of Mexico
[00:53:18] that took on so much water, this cruise ship actually flooded as well.
[00:53:22] People's rooms, everything. Yeah.
[00:53:25] That wouldn't be a good feeling.
[00:53:26] No. That's why I'm mad and like, no, I will never do a cruise.
[00:53:30] Like please, nobody ever buy me a cruise.
[00:53:32] I'll not get on the boat. It's not going to happen.
[00:53:34] Take it. No.
[00:53:36] No. I'll be out scalping that thing.
[00:53:40] On February 2nd, there was 603 earthquakes, or 2.0 or bigger,
[00:53:45] biggest of which was a 5.2 in New Zealand.
[00:53:47] Still a high number, but not as bad as that 739.
[00:53:54] That's just insanity.
[00:53:55] And then on the third, kind of coming back down into normal range,
[00:54:00] 479 earthquakes, or 2.0 or bigger,
[00:54:02] biggest of which was a 5.2 in Vanatio.
[00:54:05] I always watch Vanatio because it seems like when Vanatio gets really
[00:54:09] thumped, then that travels around the Ring of Fire.
[00:54:12] So 5.2 shouldn't be too hard on that system, but we'll see.
[00:54:17] But on the third, there was also a 5.1 in Oklahoma.
[00:54:23] Felt all the way to Arkansas.
[00:54:26] These are the ones I keep my eyes out for because you know
[00:54:30] that system is fragile over there,
[00:54:33] even though we don't think of it as an earthquake area.
[00:54:36] The New Madrid was some serious stuff when that fault went.
[00:54:40] And it was like months long.
[00:54:42] It would really do a lot of damage to the whole Heartland
[00:54:46] if that system decided to start rocking and rolling again.
[00:54:51] So 5.1 is pretty significant, and to see it over there was pretty crazy.
[00:54:57] I'm pretty close to Oklahoma.
[00:54:58] We didn't feel anything.
[00:55:00] So, yeah.
[00:55:04] Today, February 4th, 2024, there's been 424 earthquakes or 2.0 or bigger.
[00:55:11] Biggest of which so far was a 5.4 in Guam.
[00:55:14] There was a 3.4 near San Fran.
[00:55:17] There was a 5.1 near Prague.
[00:55:20] 64 people have died in the Chilean wildfires.
[00:55:24] So you can see that situation has not gotten any better
[00:55:27] since we started reporting on the 31st.
[00:55:30] And there's been approximately 43,000 hectares of land burned.
[00:55:36] So that's on par with a pretty good California wildfire there
[00:55:41] when it's pushing up into the millions of acres that are getting burned.
[00:55:46] So yeah, we're definitely going to keep our eye on that situation.
[00:55:50] As far as volcanic activity is concerned,
[00:55:53] we're down one on our erupting volcanoes this week,
[00:55:56] 27 erupting, 17 showing minor activity.
[00:56:00] That's up two from last week and 31 showing unrest.
[00:56:04] That's down one from last week.
[00:56:07] Indonesia is still showing the most amount of eruptions happening.
[00:56:11] All in all, the numbers are the same.
[00:56:13] They've just kind of danced around on the board.
[00:56:16] So I don't know.
[00:56:17] It's not nearly as high as like the highest we've seen before,
[00:56:22] but it's still, I think that the highest number
[00:56:25] just like really blew our range out of the water.
[00:56:28] So this is a significant amount of volcanic activity happening.
[00:56:32] And I think with the amount of earthquake activity that we saw last week,
[00:56:37] we should keep an eye on that situation as well.
[00:56:41] So there we go.
[00:56:43] Change in Earth news February 4th, 2024.
[00:56:49] And we're good.
[00:56:50] And then the situation in Texas, you know, we could go on and on about that one.
[00:56:54] But it's still pretty much status quo and lots of lots of help.
[00:57:00] And hopefully they can they can get the situation under control.
[00:57:04] So prayers for everybody out on the border, fighting the good fight there
[00:57:08] and holding the line.
[00:57:12] Poof!
[00:57:13] I'm always exhausted after changing Earth news.
[00:57:18] Back in a lot of data.
[00:57:19] All right.
[00:57:20] I know.
[00:57:20] And it was actually like I say, it was kind of it was more on the quiet side.
[00:57:26] I'm sure I'll get blown away with, you know, there's been a lot of blizzard activity
[00:57:31] and stuff like that happening in Russia and whatnot.
[00:57:35] So we'll see what that looks like next week when we report on it.
[00:57:40] But yep, I'm going to keep an eye on that new Madrid.
[00:57:45] That is some that was a big earthquake to happen over there.
[00:57:51] So wrong side of the country.
[00:57:54] We've got to put up the prophecy show again.
[00:58:05] It's my favorite stuff.
