[00:00:11] TACTICAL TUESDAY NIGHT, PEPPER BROADCASTING NETWORK We have to hit the reset button and create a true culture of preparedness starting at a very young age and filtering all the way up.
[00:00:40] Good evening team, gunmetal. Well, it's good to see a whole bunch of you people in the chat room. Hello everyone. Good to see everybody. Well, what I am going to see in here tonight is a lot more people than I'm used to. If you guys in the chat room can let me know if you can hear me, that would be awesome.
[00:01:06] Guys, feel free to let me know. That would be great. One of the things that we're, well I'm having a problem with at least on the Prepper Broadcasting for me or the speaker system for me is I'm having a real tough time with echo.
[00:01:29] I don't know if you guys are getting any echo or not but I have a bit of a, it's like a five second delay and then it echoes. I'm not sure why but my computer seems to do it every single time I come on. The music doesn't do it but my live voice does do it so I'm guessing it has something to do with the microphone or the headphones or something like that.
[00:01:55] Not 100% sure what it is but I'm in the process of trying to figure it out. So, hopefully I'll get that figured out sometime soon. Okay, well according to the chat room there is no echo on their end. So, I guess that's a good thing. Let's see here. So, the first thing that we're going to talk about, oh we have a regular in the chat room.
[00:02:25] We got Jughead, hello Jughead. And we of course have That Nub, my buddy, my homie, That Nub. Good to see you man. Ah, Jay Ferg, the host of our Saturday night show, A Family Affair. She's in here too. What's going on Ferg? Okay, oh, Melinda Lee, how you doing? Good, good, good. Okay, and Aussie Laurie, I see him there too. Hasn't said hey yet but I'm sure he's around here somewhere. Okay, let's get down to the show itself. Good to see everybody. Good to see everybody.
[00:02:53] Um, tonight we're going to talk about winter firearms, um, caring for your guns during the winter. Uh, we're going to talk about some of the different stuff that you can do to care for your guns. Um, maybe some different types of guns that are better suited for a winter environment versus the average firearm you might buy or use in, you know, everyday cities or everyday life.
[00:03:20] Um, the reason I chose to go with this winter firearms, um, show was this last Monday I was on Stephen Menking's show, I believe, uh, on the objective. Um, it was about winter preparedness and we were talking, you know, all about different types of winter preparedness.
[00:03:44] But, you know, being the, uh, being the gunsmith that I am, I focused mainly on firearms. Of course. You know, it's what I know and it's what I'm good at. So, of course, that's what I chose to focus on. So, um, like I said, the round table was on winter preparedness and such and I focused my responses best on that or focused my responses on what I know best, which was that.
[00:04:11] Um, since that show, uh, I've been getting some emails about Arctic firearms use, uh, cold weather gun care and things like that. So, I thought it would be smart to go ahead and take some of the questions that were presented to me on the, uh, on the emails or in the emails rather and make them into a show.
[00:04:39] So, you know, um, I didn't expect it to happen but it just kind of fell in my lap. Um, another show I'll probably do soon is on staying warm during the winter. Um, let's see here, uh, one of my, one of my, uh, usual listeners actually sent me an email about that. So, we're probably going to do something on that as well or make it a part of a different show. So, that'll be really, really cool. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
[00:05:07] Um, so, but tonight, uh, we're going to do Arctic firearms use, cold weather gun care and more. Okay? So, bear with me. Um, we're also going to cover our usual stuff. Uh, we're going to talk about Second Amendment news. We're going to talk about Range Day stuff. Uh, we're going to do the product pick. Things like that. Um, let's see. Don't forget. Apparently this has been going, uh, getting a little bit bigger lately.
[00:05:35] But, if you have any questions for me, um, or you're a company that wants to sponsor Gun Metal Armory, you can easily email me at gunmetalarmory at gmail.com. Um, if you have questions about guns, like I said, you can email me at gunmetalarmory at gmail.com. Um, and, like I was saying earlier, and like I've been doing all over my Instagram and emailing a few of you about, you can enter my contest tonight.
[00:06:03] But, I will tell you at the end of the show what it's for if you don't already know. But, I can tell you, if you're a gun owner, it's worth it. Okay. Okay. Let's see here. I also want to mention, uh, that I've been recently reviewing some gear on my new YouTube page. Uh, you guys know that there were some reviews on there for Shomer Tech. And, I did the Trailblazer Life Card 22 on my YouTube channel.
[00:06:31] And, I recently uploaded a knife making video that you guys might find interesting. It's called, uh, knife making how to grind a triangular dagger. If you guys know me, you know well that I am a big fan of the World War II knives that were used by the SOE and the OSS. So, I started making my own version of those knives. I thought that was pretty cool.
[00:07:00] So, I have a specific way that I grind triangular blades. So, I decided to make a video of it and put it up on YouTube so everyone could see how to grind a triangular blade or a spike if you want to call it that. Um, some of them in, uh, in World War II, they, you want to call them a sleeve dagger or, um, an OSS spike or they also had lapel daggers and thumb daggers, things like that. Um, hat pin daggers.
[00:07:29] Uh, they call, a lot of them, they called them daggers. Um, but, um, there were some that were triangular blades. You know, uh, literally a triangular blade. They called them a dagger. They called them a dagger. It was not in a dagger shape, but, you know, for whatever reason they called them a dagger. So, uh, I don't know why they did that. But, anyways, that's what they're known as.
[00:07:53] So, if you guys can, uh, get online if you have a YouTube channel and, or a YouTube account and you can go to my channel, gunmetalarmory and subscribe, that would help me out a lot. Um, I'm trying to reach as many subscribers as I can, uh, preferably a thousand in the next year. Um, I'm trying to reach as many subscribers as I can. And I need to get about 4,000 hours of watched video time in the next year or so. So, I can monetize.
[00:08:20] Um, that way I'll be able to do, you know, quite a bit more videos and a lot better quality. So, hopefully you guys will help me out here. Alright? So, yeah. Go to my YouTube video and subscribe. Please, please, please do. Okay. Let's see. So, for the rage days, it was kind of interesting. Um, let's see. A woman who was a nurse actually came in today.
[00:08:45] And she told me about a case where she had a guy that came in with a bullet wound through one side of his hand. The through and through. Through one side and out the other. Uh, top of the palm through the bottom of the palm. Well, um, the patient also had a bullet wound through the top of his other hand. And through the bottom of his other hand. So, he's got a through and through on one hand.
[00:09:14] A through and through on the other hand. And at first, when the patient presented, she was confused. There was blood everywhere. And she was confused because the doctor told her, line up the bullet wounds. Because she didn't know where all this blood was coming from. I mean, the hands bleed, but not at this level. So, she did. She lined up the bullet wounds. And she could see that one hand went through and through the palm.
[00:09:42] The other hand went through and through the palm. And it led to a final hole. That she didn't see right at first because there was blood everywhere. Which was... Does anyone want to know where the final hole was? Well, if you guessed it right, then you guessed it was through his, uh... His, uh, twig. Not his berries, his twig.
[00:10:13] Apparently, this guy was sleeping with another man's wife. And he was... Got caught in the act. He was covering his business. And just like this. And he got shot right through both hands and into his twig. So... I think there is a lesson there. For people who cheat. Or sleep with another man's wife.
[00:10:42] It's probably a bad idea. What do you think, mistress? You want to just say yes? Let them know that you're alive. There we go. Good. Yeah, she, uh... That was the nurse that was on the range today. She was telling me about... The guy that got shot. Through both hands and into his business. Ah, man. I feel bad for that guy. But, you know. There's a lesson there. Definitely a lesson.
[00:11:11] Pretty scary. Um... We talked longer. And this was an interesting tip that she gave me. For people who are not medically trained. Um... We talked longer. She mentioned that new nurses are actually told... When they see something that's really bloody or grotesque. And they feel like they might pass out. Or throw up. Uh... Especially new operating room nurses. They're told to bend their knees. Not lock them. Keep them bent. And they're told to breathe. Believe it or not. Breathe. Just keep breathing.
[00:11:42] Don't hyperventilate. Don't hold your breath. Just keep breathing. And it keeps oxygenating all your muscles. And keeps oxygenating your brain. Which hopefully keeps you from passing out. Now, if you're like Bob on Bob's Burgers. You see a drop of blood and you pass out. I don't know how he cuts the meat. If there's any... Whatever. Okay. Uh... Anyway, so... That was an interesting little tip that she had. For people who are not medically trained. I thought that was kind of cool.
[00:12:11] This week I also went to another gun shop here locally. And I found some 545x39... Um... You know the AK-74 round. 545x39... Um... Um... Rounds that I've been looking for. They're made by Hornady. Everybody knows Hornady. They're made by Hornady. And they're actually 545 rounds that are loaded with their VMAX bullet. That's the red tipped polymer... A red polymer tipped bullet.
[00:12:40] That Hornady makes. It's a 60 grain 545x39 round. It has a muzzle velocity of 2800 feet per second. It's got a 100 yard ballistic trajectory of plus 1.9. At 200 yards it's a 0.0. At 300 it's negative 9.2 inches. 400 it's negative 27.7 inches.
[00:13:10] And at 500 yards it's negative 58.8 inches. This thing drops... Quite a bit... In 500 yards. But you know... It's whatever. Uh... Anyways... It's a steel case round. Just like most of the normal AK-74 rounds. But... I've always wanted to try these out. So I got them. And I'll be taking these to the range sometime soon. They're made in the USA. They seem like a really good round.
[00:13:40] But... I guess we'll find out. Um... Interesting side note. I once saw a thing with the... I don't know whether it was a senator or a representative for the House of Representatives. But some idiot senator held up a Hornady bullet. I think it was one of their TAP ones with the red polymer tip. And he called it... Or she called it. I don't remember which one. But they called it a heat-seeking bullet.
[00:14:11] A heat-seeking bullet. Right. Okay. Wow. That's technology that any civilian can buy. I'm sure. Sure it is. Okay. I'll get right back to you on that one. The other box of ammo I got this week... Was from Corbon. I don't know if you guys know anything about defensive ammo. But... Corbon... Is one of the better companies out there... That...
[00:14:41] Makes some really, really good... Uh... Defensive ammo. They... Um... They happen to have a box of 7.62x39 125 grain jacketed hollow points at the store I was at. It was the last box they had. And... I decided that I wanted them. So I picked them up. Got them for a really good price. I'm not going to tell you how much because you guys might yell at me. Um... But these ones have a velocity of 2400 feet per second. That's not bad for an AK. And they've got a 1600 foot pound...
[00:15:11] Uh... Muzzle energy. So... That's not bad. You know? It's a good round. I think I'll be testing it and using it. Uh... Coming up here. See how it goes. So... Anyways... Those are a couple of the new rounds that I picked up this week. Um... We were talking a couple of weeks ago about the New Jersey and the Washington, um... New gun laws. And... There's a New Jersey gun, uh...
[00:15:41] Ban... Uh... The New Jersey, uh... Magazine ban that's going on right now. And for some odd reason, people just don't seem to be complying with these laws. They don't seem to be turning their mags in. I wonder why. You know? I've always believed that there was a stark difference between laws. There's man-made laws. We all know what man-made laws are. Then there are natural laws.
[00:16:10] Like self-defense. Defending your life with the best means available is a God-given right. It is a natural right. If you're not religious, it's still a natural right. To defend yourself. I don't know how anyone could deny that. Or... Even question it. I don't understand it.
[00:16:43] It's just... It's something that I've never been able to truly understand. The... I guess the only ones... Who... Do... Dispute that. Or who do... Disagree with that God-given right. Are people who have private bodyguards. So they don't really need to know how to defend themselves. They have hired help. That does it. For them.
[00:17:13] So... Why... Do they insist on... Infringing on our rights? It's just a thought. Um... So anybody heard about this next Washington bill? Senate Bill 5340? Uh... Our buddy Thatnub... Sent me... A link to this. I don't think he's in the chat room anymore. I think he had to go. But... He sent me a link from the NRA. And it's scary. It's really scary for the people in Washington.
[00:17:44] The Attorney General... In Washington requested additional gun bans... In the 5340. In House Bill 1286. Here's a direct quote from the NRA. These bills would ban possession of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms. Based on certain listed cosmetic features. Along with... Specifically listed firearms and magazines. Capable of holding more than 10 rounds. Those who own these firearms and magazines prior to the ban.
[00:18:12] Would only be allowed to possess them on their own property. And in other limited instances. Such as at licensed shooting ranges. If they are transported... Unloaded... And unlocked. Oh... Unloaded... And locked. A violation... Of this firearm ban... Would result in a Class C felony.
[00:18:37] I guess the thing that I'm... Confused about... Is... What part of... Shall not be infringed... Are they... Misunderstanding? I... I guess I just don't understand. Shall not be infringed. It's... It's not really... Rocket science. Is it? Or am I... Am I the one... Is I the only one here?
[00:19:06] Anybody in the chat room disagree with me here? Am I wrong? You know... Is there a reason they're doing this? And maybe I'm just not seeing it? You know... Other than... All out... You know... Crazy people... Uh... Am I missing something? Um... Anyways... You guys may think... Just because you live elsewhere... This won't affect you... And that these bills... Aren't gonna mean anything... If you don't live in Washington... But these bills are just test platforms guys... Mark Walters on...
[00:19:35] Our American Radio... Talks about it all the time... The... People... That come up with these laws... And these rules... They wanna see if they're gonna work... Then these crazy fools... Move along... And do these same kinds of bills... In places like Arizona... Florida... Georgia... And more... Everybody needs to start fighting now... They need to start fighting for their rights... And they need to start supporting... Places like... The Second Amendment Foundation... At... www.saf.org... Okay...
[00:20:03] S-A-F.org... Sierra... Alphafoxtrot.org... Okay... Donate to the Second Amendment Foundation... If you got a couple bucks... Send it dude... It doesn't matter... A couple bucks... Makes... Sense... Um... These guys are actually fighting for our rights... They're trying to help... I... I think it's very important... That we all do our part... Even if you only send a couple bucks... At least you tried... Uh... It'll be worth it in the end guys... Um... Anyways...
[00:20:33] Here's some better news... Um... A few days ago... The South Dakota House of Representatives... Passed Bill... Uh... Senate Bill 47... Uh... By a... By a 47-23 margin... The bill gives South Dakotans... The ability to concealed carry... Or open carry... It was already legal to carry open there... But the concealed carry stuff... Uh... Was regulated with CCW permits... Now... Uh... Uh... SB 47... Is on its way to the governor's desk... Their governor's name is Christy Noem... So...
[00:21:02] If you live there... And you want to help... Uh... You want to help push it through... You can go to... Uh... www.nraila.org... And look up the article... And there'll be a link in there... That you can actually email the governor... And help out... Okay... Uh... But... This is good news... I'm glad... They're finally getting their constitutional carry... It's a good thing... Good job South Dakota... You guys got Mount Rushmore... And now you guys will hopefully... Be able to carry guns... Like a normal human being should...
[00:21:31] Concealed or open... Anywhere... Anytime... Anyplace... Anyways... Good job South Dakota... Alright... Product pick time... Let's see here... Yeah... Yeah... In the chat room right now... They're talking about how our rights are being... Being chipped away... Inch by inch... Yep... Being infringed upon... You got it... 100% they're talking about it... You know... It's... It's bad guys... Anyways... Alright...
[00:22:00] Let's move on to the product pick... This week... Uh... I want something simple... Because... I really like them... Um... It's the... LA Police Gear Tactical Athlete 7 inch boots... The 2.0 version... These boots are really... Really awesome guys... There's one feature about them... That I love more than anything else... But... They fit great... They feel good right off the bat... You don't... I mean... You can break them in after... You know... A few days or whatever... And they're even better... But... They feel good right off the bat...
[00:22:29] They're durable... They have really well made laces... Um... And... Like I said... They have some features... That truly... Truly make me happy... To have... In a boot... One of my favorite features... Is the... Uh... FCS... Or Flex Carry System... The Flex Carry System... Is set up... So you can attach... A small... MOLLE pouch... Or... Knife... Or... Even... A tiny holster... To the outside of the ankle...
[00:22:59] Of the boot... Me... I usually clip a knife into mine... Or possibly a small flashlight... Uh... You can even put a tiny handcuff key in there... If you want to... But... That's just me... Uh... You... You might have a different idea... But I think... It's a really cool feature... You can probably even attach a tiny... Uh... Uh... Uh... Pistol holster in there... If you wanted to... Something like a little North American Arms... Sidewinder... Or Pug... You know... Everybody loves little North American Arms pistols... You know I do...
[00:23:29] So maybe you can put a little tiny holster... On the side of your boot... That would be really cool... Especially if you laced it up... Into the laces... Right? Um... Anyways... You guys should check these out... Uh... Especially for only 52 bucks... It's really hard to be mad about that price... You know where to find them... www.lapolicegear.com Go to Brands... Click on L.A. Police Gear... Then go to the Tactical Footwear section... Easy peasy... Alright guys... Um...
[00:23:59] Why don't we... Take... Well... Yeah... Let's go ahead and take a quick break... And then I'll come back... And I will talk about... Winter... Weaponry... And winter warfare... And uh... Well... Not really warfare... But... Winter weaponry... And caring for your guns... During the winter... Okay? Alright guys... We shall be... Right... Back... With one to grow on... And now...
[00:24:29] We return... To the Gun Metal Armory... Okay guys... Looks like... I'm on... Um... I'm having a hard time... With... The... Echo... That I'm dealing with here... Okay... Um... It looks like... We had a... Commercial...
[00:24:58] Going on here... While I was trying to talk... No big deal... Alright... So... What do you say... We get into... The actual... Meat... Of the show here... Alright... Cool... They can hear me loud and clear... Good to go... Alright guys... What do you say... We open the door... To... The... Gun... Metal... Armory... Here we go... I used to have a really cool vault sound... That James got me...
[00:25:28] But I... Didn't upload it to... Uh... The new feature... I'm gonna have to have him do that for me... But... Here you go... Pew... There we go... It opened... Alright... So... One of the biggest... Factors... That comes into play... With any sort of winter environment... Is the usage... And maintenance... Of various... Weapon system... Various different types of ammunition... And... Other... Gear...
[00:25:58] There's a reason why... They have... An army base... In Alaska... There's a reason why they have military bases... In Alaska... It's so they can test... Arctic... Gear... Okay... Pardon me for a moment... I'm gonna take a drink... Right... No... No food or drink in studio... Right Mark... That's great... Okay... So... And for anybody who's wondering... That was just...
[00:26:27] Zero calorie green tea... Nothing important... Um... Anyways... There isn't a whole lot of gear... In the firearms world... That was specifically designed... For cold weather use... So... Most of the time... Mods... And outside the box thinking... Is gonna be needed... So... We're gonna tackle that tonight... We're gonna talk a little bit about... Using firearms in the winter... What we can do to make...
[00:26:56] Using our firearms in a colder environment... A little bit easier on us... And... We're gonna look at how to maintain those platforms... In an Arctic environment... Or maybe not Arctic... But a winter environment... Well... That or... We're gonna figure out how not to mess everything up... One or the other... Um... I have a bunch of questions that were sent to me... On the subject... So... I'm gonna answer... As many as I can...
[00:27:26] To the best of my ability... And elaborate... And try to... Give... A reasonable answer... To... The questions that have been... Uh... Sent to me... Okay... Alright... Let's do this here... We have about 30 minutes left... So I'll get through as much as I can... Let's start the questions... Okay...
[00:27:56] Question number one... Lubrication... In the winter is problematic... To say the least... What kind of lube... Should I use... For my rifle... What kind of lube... Should I use for my pistol... And what kind of lube... Should I use... For... A shotgun... Well... Lube can be a big problem... Not just in guns either... Just kidding...
[00:28:25] Uh... For vehicles too... Lube can be a pretty... Pretty big issue... Um... But you really don't need to use anything... Too terribly different... On a pistol, rifle, or shotgun... Um... The same lube... Should be fine... For all three... Platforms... There are... There are a few different types of lubes... That I actually like... Um...
[00:28:55] And a few that I recommend... For various reasons... Uh... As far as like... Cold weather stuff goes... There are times where I will use... Specific lubes... And specific... Excuse me... Cleaners... For... You know... When it gets colder... Where I'm at... You know... I'm in northern Arizona... So it can get cold up here... It's not just all desert... Um... But... There are times where I will use... Cold weather stuff... Just for that...
[00:29:25] And of course... I'm not in Alaska... Or you know... Russia or something... But... You know... Whatever... Uh... I really like G96... G96 is something I mentioned... On Stephen Menking's show... It's a great lube... Uh... It can help you clean your gun as well... Uh... But it is a really, really good platform... And I'll tell you a little bit more about that in a moment... Or a really good product... I'll tell you a little bit more about that in a moment... The other one I like...
[00:29:55] Is... Rand... CLP... When I was at SHOT Show a couple of years ago... I was looking at some of the new products... I happened to be looking at the XM556... Uh... Miniature machine... Uh... Miniature minigun... And... I turned around... And the guys from Rand CLP were standing right there... And... They looked at my name badge... Saw who I was... And asked me if I wanted a sample pack of Rand CLP... I said, sure... Why not?
[00:30:25] I had never used it before... So they handed me a sample pack of it... And I'd been trying it out... And... I really liked it... It was really, really good stuff... It still is really good stuff... Um... That's why that's another one of those lubrications I like... And I would recommend for colder weather... Uh... And then the final one that I'm actually currently looking into... I have not used this yet... Full disclosure... I've not used it yet... But...
[00:30:54] I'm looking at... Lucas Oil Gun Grease... I don't know if you guys know anything about Lucas Oil... But... They make... Uh... Oil for... Cars and trucks... Race cars... Boats... I mean... I think boats... They make oil and... Uh... Cleaners for all kinds of different stuff... And of course... Firearms... They make... Uh... This stuff called Lucas Oil Gun Grease...
[00:31:21] That looks like it's gonna be some pretty decent stuff... If all their MSDS and all of their product information is correct... Uh... So... To answer the... Uh... The... The emailer's question... As for G96... Their lube is top notch... That's the stuff I like the most so far... They've passed... They've passed so many different military tests... It's... It's literally not even funny... Well... It's kind of funny... Um...
[00:31:50] They're mil-spec PRF... Uh... 63-460F Type B rated... And they're also NATO... Um... S758 approved... Which means they've got approval from our military... And from NATO... For their products... G96 is pretty much good to go on... Smaller caliber weapons... Uh... Heavy caliber weapons... And a whole bunch of other weapons systems... Um... Instead of more than one lube for different guns... And different... Uh... Platforms...
[00:32:20] G96 can pretty much handle all of them... Uh... The other interesting part about G96... Is... It bonds to the metal... Making it last longer... And clean up... Easier... The army tested G96... With their M249 saws... Um... Other people know that as an FN Minimi... But... Not Mini-Me from Austin Powers... It's a Minimi... It's a...
[00:32:48] Belgian thing of a digger... Um... Anyways... If you... Uh... Ever were in the military... You probably know what a belt-fed 249... Or M249 saw is... Very, very cool gun... Um... And... It passed the dynamic... Uh... The G96 passed the dynamic dust test... It passed the saltwater test... And...
[00:33:20] Um... The minimum 149 degree Fahrenheit... Flashpoint test... And the negative 74 degrees Fahrenheit... Cold weather poor test... Negative 74 degrees Fahrenheit... That's ridiculous... That's like... Hoth... That's like Star Wars Hoth... Kind of cold right there... Man... That is... Woo-wee... That's cold...
[00:33:49] I don't know how they tested that... I mean... Maybe they flew to Mars... Or Venus... I don't know... But... Very, very cold... And very cool... That it was still... Able to pour in negative 74 degrees Fahrenheit... I love that... Um... Anyways... Maybe they took it to the moon... I don't know... Uh... If you want to get something for yourself... Uh... If the email is listening... You want to get something for yourself... You can go to www.g96.com... Just... Uh... Golf...
[00:34:19] Nine... Six... Dot com... Very easy to find... As for the RAND CLP... I like their flagship stuff... The RAND... The flagship CLP... Or Clean... Lubricate... Protect... Um... Is good stuff... They're more... Uh... More and mold cleaner stuff... I haven't tried yet... And they also have the HOG cleaner... H-A-W-G cleaner... That they make... I have not tried HOG yet either... But I've read a lot about it...
[00:34:47] And it seems like a pretty awesome product... Um... Their products are... Supposed to be good down to negative 30 degrees Fahrenheit... And have a flashpoint... That's just over 600 degrees Fahrenheit... That's... That's... That's... That's pretty awesome... It also means... With a high flashpoint like that... It also means... That... That won't be smoking... The... Uh... The gun won't be smoking...
[00:35:17] When it gets too hot... Or when the suppressor gets too hot... There won't be any smoke... Coming out of the firearm itself... Uh... But it's anywhere... On the CLP... The bore and bolt cleaner... And the HOG cleaner... The flashpoint is... 600 degrees Fahrenheit... To 619 Fahrenheit... So... It could be anywhere... In between... That line... Which is... Pretty good... It's not bad at all... Um... Their HOG line... Like I said... Is supposed to be pretty awesome...
[00:35:48] And... You can use that for all three types of guns too... The pistols... The rifles... And the shotguns... But it was actually designed for heavy weapons systems... Hence the name... It stands for heavy application weapons grease... And it was designed for M60s... 240 Bravos... And other belt feds... Things like that... Okay... So... They tested... Salt spray and humidity resistance... On RAND CLP... The humidity test passed at 900 hours...
[00:36:17] The salt spray test passed at 96 hours... Of continuous salt water spray... And of course... It protects the metal from corrosion... And so on... If you want to get some... You can check out... RAND... Uh... W-W-W dot... RAND CLP dot com... R-A-N-D... R-A-N-D... C-L-P... Okay... The next option...
[00:36:47] You could look at... The types of lubricating oils... Used in snowmobiles... Those oils are... Basically built... For... Cold weather... If you got... I mean obviously... It's a snowmobile... So it's... It's... Set up just for... Cold weather... Uh... Let's see... Lucas Oils... Those are the guys I was talking about earlier... Lucas Oils...
[00:37:17] Makes all kinds of lubrication... Trucks... Cars... And wouldn't you know it... Snowmobiles... Right? Plus of course... Guns... Like I said... Uh... But... Lucas Gun Oil... Is rated at... A decent... Negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit... And up to... 540 degrees Fahrenheit... So... That's pretty good range too... Not bad at all... Plus it's all made here in the USA... Which makes me... Quite happy... I like that... If you want to check out Lucas Oil... You can go to...
[00:37:46] www.lucasoil.com... Just that simple... And no... None of these companies pay me... If you're wondering... None of them pay me... Okay... So... There's one... Last option... And some of you guys may... Throw something at me... When you hear me say this... But... It is an option... And it is an option... I have... Done... You could just run your gun dry...
[00:38:18] I know... I know... I know some of you are probably yelling at your computer right now... Probably yelling at your headphones... Dane... You're an idiot... Why would I run my gun dry... You can run your gun dry... You're gonna beat up the parts... You're gonna wear out faster... You're gonna have problems... Certain things are gonna sound different... But I assure you... It can be done... And it does work...
[00:38:47] It works better... On platforms with... A... Looser tolerance... Spec... It works better... On... Guns that don't need a lot of lubrication to begin with... Uh... Guns like the Glock... They don't need a whole lot of lubrication... Uh... An AK-47... Like I said... Works good with that... There are some bolt actions out there... That don't require a whole lot of lube...
[00:39:17] So... That is something to consider, guys... Um... You guys know I love World War II... You know I love the SOE... And all the, uh... Spy stuff... And the... The Special Forces... And all that crap from back then... Uh... An interesting fact about World War II... The Germans got their butts kicked... By the Russians... Because... Well... For a multitude of reasons... But... They got their butts kicked... By the Russians... Because... The German gun oil... Just...
[00:39:48] Gummed up... It... It... Basically froze... It became gummy... Instead of... Actually being useful... For lubricating their weapons... It... Lost its usefulness... In that... Really really cold weather... Um... Excuse me... In Siberia... It's very very interesting... Um... I think... That... They... Probably...
[00:40:17] Could have... Put a lot of... Um... Resources into it... And maybe... Fix the problem... But... The Russians... Knew what to do... And... You know... The Germans didn't... I've... I haven't heard any accounts... Of Germans running their Mausers... Or any other guns dry... But... They should have... I've also read that the Ruskies... Having dealt with this type of... Crazy insane cold before... They would put petrol...
[00:40:47] And... Gun oil together... And use that as lubrication... I've read that... And... And... I've also read that the Russians... Would occasionally run their guns dry... So... Something to consider... Something to consider there... Okay... Alright... Moving on to the next one... How do you set up a rifle... Or pistol... Or shotgun... Why do they always say all three? How do you set up a rifle... For winter use? Okay...
[00:41:17] I like to set up my firearms... With polymer furniture... For winter use... It's okay... Go ahead... Um... If I'm setting up a firearm... For winter use... I'm going to use polymer furniture... Wood furniture tends to swell... And shrink... When it changes temperatures... It tends to crack... When it's under extreme pressure... So... Modern polymers can break... And they can crack... But it's a lot less likely... Than it ever has been...
[00:41:47] Metal furniture... Or even metal forends... Are an absolute... No-no... Your hand could easily... Stick to that... With any condensation... Or anything else... Um... Of course... You could be wearing gloves... That... That makes sense too... But... Um... It's basically a no-no... Uh... I like the Magpul furniture... Of course... Everyone knows this... But I also like to wrap my furniture... If I can't get polymer stuff... Uh...
[00:42:16] The wrap I like to use... Is made by a company called... McNett Tactical... It's called Camoform Gun Wrap... It's really... Really cool stuff... Uh... It doesn't include any adhesives... It's basically just like that... Vet Wrap stuff... You know... The um... The stuff that the veterinarians use... To wrap up horse legs... And things like that... It sticks to itself... But there's no adhesive in it... Uh... It's... It's really... Really good stuff...
[00:42:45] It sticks to itself... Comes in a bunch of different colors... And camo types... It's about... Two inches wide... And 144 inches long... Which is plenty to cover... A rifle or shotgun... And... It comes in a lot of different patterns... It comes in... Uh... Cryptech Highlander... Multicam... One of my favorites... Uh... Digital Woodland... Digital Desert... Realtree Edge... Realtree Max 4... Let's see... Mossy Oak...
[00:43:14] Mossy Oak Brush... Mossy Oak Shadow Grass... Mossy Oak Breakup... Obsession... And of course... Snow... Which... Heck yeah... If you want to get some... You can... Uh... If you want to do the same thing... If you're listening... Uh... Email a person... And you want to... Put some of this on your gun... You can go to... Uh... www.gearaid.com... That's where I get mine from... You can get it there... Uh... Let's see...
[00:43:42] The Snow Color Camo Wrap... Uh... It's pretty good... I love using it... Because I can pretty much... Um... Convert the outside of my gun... To a winter platform... With a couple of wraps... From that wrap... You know... The camoform stuff... You don't have to... Switch your gun to a different color... Or spray... You know... A Krylon... Or anything like that... Um... You'll also... When getting your gun set up for winter... You'll also want to look at the tolerances... And look at the bolt...
[00:44:11] Okay... Uh... Any moving parts... You'll want to look at any of the other moving parts too... You'll want to look at how much extra room there is... Uh... You'll want to look at the type of trigger you have... And the size of the trigger... Guard... Makes a difference... Too... If you're wearing gloves out in the snow... Then you have to be able to fire your gun with your gloves on or off... Be aware...
[00:44:40] Of how big that trigger guard is... So you could use that trigger with... A glove on... If you need to... Also... Be aware... Of whether your trigger is... Steel... Or not... More than likely... Most triggers are steel these days... Or some kind of metal... But there are some out there that are polymer... Some Glock triggers are polymer... So it's not... Unreasonable...
[00:45:10] It's not unheard of... Um... But... Be aware of it... You know... I don't think you're going to have a problem... From a steel trigger... As far as getting stuck on that... It's not like you're going to lick it... And hopefully your hand isn't wet... But... You know... Be aware of it... Just keep it in mind... Um... It's a good thing... Okay... Next question... Let's see... Oh... There's something in the chat room here... That I want to read from a... UA...
[00:45:38] We have had ARs jam up from getting too dry... They definitely like me wet... Oh... Yes... Very much so... Very very much so... Uh... Let's see here... They're talking about... Uh... Running the AR platform dry... Yeah... That is one of those platforms... That does not like running dry... You're 100% correct on that one... Yes...
[00:46:21] Um... A block... Uh... Possibly a bolt action... Maybe a pump action shotgun... Something that I have a lot of control over... And has really loose tolerances... You know... Galils... Uh... Things of that nature... The AR-15... Works best when it's wet... But... Keep in mind... Running the gun dry... Is only in a dire emergency... Or...
[00:46:51] If you don't have the right kind of lubrication... If... You have G96... Or... Maybe some of the Lucas oils... Or if you find an oil type that you like for yourself... Maybe a snowmobile oil or whatever... Run your gun with that... You know... Run your AR-15 with that... But me... I prefer to run AKs in a colder environment... That's just me... Of course I prefer to run AKs... Period...
[00:47:21] Ha ha ha... So... Anyways... Back to it... Next question... How should I store my guns... In a colder climate? Uh... Ha ha... Well... This might be a little subjective... Everyone's gonna have a different opinion on this... But I'll tell you what I do... I... Ha ha... If I'm gonna use the guns... At any point during the winter... Even shoot them...
[00:47:49] I'll store them outside... In the... In the safe that's in my shop... I'll store them outside... In my shop... In my safe... Um... They're locked in there with all their other friends... They're... They're covered in... In whatever G96 lube... Or... You know... Whatever... Type of oil that I want to use... Um... And they're surrounded by silica gel packets... That... Is... The way that I like to store them...
[00:48:20] Especially if I'm gonna use them... In the winter... Um... The silica gel packets... Help... Absorb... Any kind of... Excess condensation... That makes a big difference... Uh... Just don't try to warm them up... Too fast... If you take them inside... And be sure to get all the water... Out of them... If you're going to go... Back inside... With that gun... Because... That condensation... Is gonna cause a big problem... Okay...
[00:48:50] Let's see... What's the next question? What about condensation... Or body heat? Oh... Here we go... Obviously my gun... Is going to be close to my body... And I may even... Be breathing on it... When I'm using the scope... Will any of that condensation... Or moisture... Have an ill effect on my firearm? Well... I mean... Yeah... It can... A lot of guys who hunt...
[00:49:19] In the snow... Use winter... During the winter... Or a lot of guys who hunt... Use scopes... Right? Uh... So... What do you think happens... When they're... They're glassing an area... And they're using their gun scope... To do it? Now most of the time... Of course you would use binoculars... To glass an area... But... I do know that guys... Do look through their scopes... When they're looking around too... Their breath... Has condensation in it... Your breath has... You know... Water in it... Moisture... So...
[00:49:48] If they're breathing... On that gun... When they're looking through that scope... You know... Their breath gets on the bolt... The receiver... The rear area of the gun... All that... All that stuff... It gets on... All of that... So... That breathing... Does indeed... Turn into condensation... If it builds up... And... If it heats up a bit... If enough hot breath... Gets on the gun...
[00:50:19] The gun can actually... You know... It... It kind of depends on the scenario... That you're in... But... If enough of your breath... Gets on the gun... And it's wet enough... And you stay out in the cold... That... Breath... Or the condensation from your breath... Could actually freeze... Go read it... It could actually freeze... And... Freeze your gun closed...
[00:50:51] So... That's something to consider... Um... It's super rare... It's almost unheard of... But it's not 100%... Unheard of... Uh... You also mentioned body heat... That too... Could be a problem... So... Try to have enough layers on... To keep that gun... Away from your body... Alright... The ill effects... Can be the exact things... I just mentioned... But you can also get rusting... And pitting... If you leave the gun alone...
[00:51:20] And don't clean off... Any water... Or condensation... And just throw in your gun safe... And forget about it... All of that could create... A huge... Huge problem... Anybody knows that... Water creates rust... And rust creates pitting... And it's a huge enemy... Of your gun... Alright... Alright... What is the next thing here... Next question... What do you do... If you get snow in your gun? Anybody have any ideas... In the chat room... Of what to do... If you get snow in your gun?
[00:51:51] You're gonna say... Build a snowman? Okay... If snow gets into your gun... You're gonna want to use... A cleaning rod... Or something similar... To clean out all the snow... Out of the barrel... Uh... Clean any out of the action... The trigger components... Anything like that... You'll definitely... Want to do this... Before you start shooting it again... Because... It can... It's a lot like dirt... Or mud... Or anything like that... You definitely don't want to start... Sending bullets down range...
[00:52:20] If the barrel's plugged... With a bunch of snow... Uh... Melinda... In the chat room... Said that she would cry... If she got snow in her gun... I think a lot of us might... You never know... Um... Once you clean the snow out... You'll want to take a good look... At the internals... Uh... You take a good look at the... The barrel... The internals... Uh... The action... All that stuff... You'll want to take a really good look at it... Basically... You don't want to leave anything to chance...
[00:52:49] You want to leave no stone... Unturned... When you go looking for moisture... Okay... Any sort of wetness... Inside that firearm's... Gotta go... The reason is... If you go back inside... When you're camping... Or you're hunting... You have a hunting lodge... You go back inside with that gun... That's just been outside in the snow... Go inside... All that condensation... All that snow... It melts... All that water... Steeps into every single part of that gun... And then you go back outside... After having some hot chocolate...
[00:53:18] Or some coffee... Or a... Donut... Or a crawler... Or whatever they call them... Bear claw... I don't know... And then you head back outside... To look around for some more deer... Or whatever you're going to shoot... And... You go to take that... That buck... And your gun's frozen shut... Your gun is literally frozen closed... Because... You didn't pay any attention... To how much moisture was in that gun... Okay...
[00:53:49] So... Keep that in mind... Um... Arctic... Or... Accuracy International... Is a company... Out of the UK... And... They... Believe it or not... They actually make a rifle... Called the AW... Or the Arctic Warfare... It's specially designed... With grooves... Cut into the bolt... So even if it does... Get... Wet... Or even if it does... Get water... Or snow... Or freezes...
[00:54:20] Or whatever... The grooves in the bolt... Give it a lot less surface area... To freeze to... And hold it in place... There's also plenty of other features... That allow for adverse conditions... When it comes to that gun... The bolt is angled backwards... So it's easier to use... Instead of being angled to the side... It has a large bolt knob... So it's easier to grab with or without gloves... The safety is easier to operate... And can even be used if you can't see all that well... Which is awesome...
[00:54:51] Uh... Like in the dark or whatever... Uh... So if you want to... Some people want to modify their guns... Just for use in cold weather... So my advice would be... To get larger controls... If you want to use your gun in colder weather... Um... Replace... Try to replace any metal parts... Like the trigger... That could stick to your fingers... Or your hands... Uh... Obviously you can't replace some metal parts... Like the barrel... That's stupid... Don't... Don't go there... Um... If you want...
[00:55:20] You can seek out a gunsmith like me... Uh... Who could work on your bolt... Maybe mill some grooves... Into a non... Uh... Non... Critical arrow... And make it so... It will cock easier... You can do that... You can follow... Arctic Warfare's lead... Or uh... Rather... Accuracy International's lead... On that... Um... You can utilize all sorts of different... Uh... Uh... Concepts that... Uh... Accuracy International uses... In their Arctic Warfare rifles... You could use the camo wrap...
[00:55:50] We talked about... To change the outside... Or you could just have it... Cerakoted... There would be no reason... You could have it... Cerakoted... Um... What colors... Would you use? Uh... I would probably go with some... White... Of course... Some lighter grays... Some darker grays... Maybe a dash of blue... You know... Some stuff like that... You could also go with... Cryptech Yeti... Or Multicam Snow... Things like that... Um... There are a lot of other questions... In here guys... But I do not have time... To answer them all... So... Tonight...
